i am currently also about to acquire a santos large opaline dial and realize that you will either absolutely love of it or hate it. I do not need all my watches to be compact, so I am taking the plunge as I do not connect with the medium size. I naturally gravitate to the large size for whatever reason. Thank you for your review.
This is Cartier’s best modern interpretation of a classic….period. The contour of the case and the rubber strap makes it fit perfectly on your wrist Alex. I’ve had mine for over a year, and it is just as appropriate for watching my kids on the soccer field as well as on date night with my wife. A true all around beauty. Enjoy it!
Just acquired this beauty today. Went in unsure if the large size would be too big, but luckily I did not feel it was. Great news because the adlc version is perfection to me!
Hi Aleks, great channel! No time-wasting intros/outros. Good pace delivery, photography, knowledge of sizing and colour. Keep up the good work - subscribed!
Looks absolutely great on you, large watch with great wrist presence. Don’t let it bother you. Just face it guys, we want people to notice that beautiful timepiece.
Just picked this watch up at my AD yesterday 10% discount with wire payment. I went in to have my Tudor bb 58 serviced was not even thinking of buying a watch. My mistake was trying it on 😂. They have every model and I have been eyeing up the white dial but this watch is so unique nothing like it in my collections.
I literally just sold mine a couple of weeks ago. I did not get rid of it because I did not like it, however, quite the contrary. It is hands down the most comfortable watch I have ever worn!
I have this watch with gray dial. The rubber strap looks so damn good. As easy as it is to put the metal bracelet back on it, I am not sure if I will ever want to switch it back.
Awesome video! Great photography and videography! I own a medium Santos in Stainless Steel and love it! My wrist size is the same as yours so I always felt, like you, that the "large" models would be too big for my wrist so I was interested to hear that you feel this watch fits you perfect and that the black model wears smaller. I love this model and do wish they would release it in medium and also start making their other Santos models in medium too! Also, I wish they would make some nice rubber straps for the medium models!! Thanks for the video!
I'm reconsidering this watch thanks to your video. I have the same wrist size as yours and have only tried the regular version on bracelet and always dismissed this model thinking that it would be too big.
Bought this in Cartier London Maison, superb looking watch, just got robbed using my foreign credit card(2 exchange currencies) though so it became more expensive than it is. Hoping for more easy link straps with Cartier! Not sure If I need to put some protection to it knowing ADLC is quite a protector.
Thank you very much for the video! This iteration of the Cartier Santos would be perfect with a full black coated metal bracelet. Why is there in full black a rubber strap version only? Such a pitty...
not my pick from the Cartier line up, prefer their medium size, even on 7.75in wrist. It's a cleaner more elegant look for me. Nonetheless, this watch looks beautiful and appears to fit perfectly on your wrist, enjoy! I'll be interested to see if this stays in your rotation long-term.
Thanks! I agree with you, medium is way better in general but to be completely honest I believe the proportions on the modern ones are not the best overall. Too wide in general and I believe the Carree/Galbee has much better proportions. If I know myself well enough, it wont last forever, however its been on the wrist since I bought it. Thats a good sign
39.8mm is not big although it looks a little big the way it hugs the wrist and the thinness makes up for it. I have the normal Large Santos with the same wrist size as you. The medium looks more elegant but my day to day dress code is more casual and is a tad small. I would have choose the medium if its 37.8mm.
@@AleksWatches The biggest watch I have is the 42mm Pelagos with 50mm lug to lug is the maximum I go with watch size nowadays. The Santos when measured 2 to 8 O'clock is about 42mm. Choose Large over the medium is because the medium wears a bit too elegant IMO. Maybe I would choose the medium if I need to wear shirts daily for work.
Did you try the version with the grey sunburst dial? which comes with the metal strap as well as leather? I do love this watch but want to try the other version too as the silver edges stands out with the strap.
Congrats on your new watch Alex! I think it looks good on your wrist! The watch is beautiful with nice details. I have two things that i dont like about it, first is lume and second is size. The way i see cartier as a brand and this model, i feel that it should not take such a presence on the wrist and i strongly prefer medium size, but that is just me. Cheers 👋🏻
What a fantastic review, Really enjoyed watching your video,I did check secondhand prices, and they are about to 25% under retail, that’s in the UK. So best to buy on the secondary market.
It would be crazy if they made the WGSA0077 with balck dial and black rubber strap... now I can t make a decision between this and the WGSA0077, maybe i'll take the yellow gold one and put the black rubber strap on, if you could make a video of WGSA0077 with black rubber strap it would be super
Congratulations Alex.🔥🔥 I was interested in this piece soon as it dropped. And I made the mistake of selling my Cartier XL 100 a couple years ago. Then I tried on the medium white dial. And realised that this is how Cartier on my wrist should look, so I purchased it. And it's now my favourite in my collection. Id say because it's a square at 35.1mm it fits like a 37mm to 38mm. The large you have at 39.5 fits as a 42mm. If you have got 8 inch plus wrists then indeed the Large is the one to get. But 6 inch to 7 & half inch wrists the medium is the way to go. As Cartier Santos are ment to be worn elegant and classy! Having a Cartier Santos too Large is like having a JLC Reverso too large👎🏾. It's take the class away. However anything black makes things look smaller! Your Cartier in all Stealth with the rubber in large suits that watch. Because it's not trying to be elegant. But can still go with anything. ONLY in full DLC like yours would I EVER go large again. But wouldn't get one unless it was at a decent price Grey Market because the medium is just too good and I'd NEVER sell it again. Plus with your version you don't get the bracelet. That would be an absolute deal breaker. This new interchangeable bracelet and links is the best in the business.
I disagree. I have 16cm wrists and the medium looks like a woman's watch. Even the AD said mostly women buy the medium. Large is the way to go for anyone with 16cm wrists and up.
@TruthsRazor Completely subjective you probably think 36mm is too small or a womans watch as you say. Iam comfortable in my own skin. I wear from 36mm up to 44mm no problem. I don't care what a shop assistant says, iam a seasoned watch collector who has had the Cartier Santos 100xl which is a much larger in comparison to the new medium. So my response is based on my personal experience! But in the black DLC I would go large because of the rubber straps and black DLC in my opinion makes it appear smaller with less dial because its black.
@@MyVideosWillCalmU My response is based on me trying both the medium and large. On my wrist, the large looking the better fit for me. I was initially all set on the medium since, on RUclips, people with larger wrists than mine were also wearing the medium and it looked very well sized. So, I was naturally surprised to see it look small on my smaller wrists. Just goes to show you've got to try them on for yourself; videos can often misrepresent the true sizing of an object. Anyhow, I'm entitled to my opinion, as you are to your own. Wasn't meant to cause you distress in any way. More wanted to bring awareness which may possibly help others not make a wrong sizing mistake.
Very interesting take on not just this watch but on wearability in general. You really must try them on. My wrist size is just that bit smaller, 16cm neat, and for me the natural choice is the Medium. But not bought one mostly on account of the broad shiny bezel (gosh I've been yes/no/yes/no on this watch) and I like my watches to look nice - so far I've done well with my collection over the years with all sorts. I wonder if the '0037 model with black ADLC bezel and steel bracelet would work for me? Comes with the same rubber strap but I'm concerned it might not fit (wrist size about one hole smaller). What would you think from your experience?
Have you every considered a vintage one? Would wear great on your wrist. And a bit more attitude imho. On the bracelet I find it waaay to large for my wrist, it worked on the rubber apart from it sitting a bit too loose.
This is one I was very interested in but the way I see it until Cartier uses tungsten carbide for the bezel on the Santos medium they won't have one for me. The large is too large, all the DLCs are larges. Then there's this one, the lume shot sold me on this but then you are missing out on the magic of that bracelet. So Cartier is so close to selling me one but until they upgrade the bezel on the medium I'll have to wait.
Cartier, pls update the medium size to 38 x 45.4 mm (ML model, perhaps?) that would feel like the goldilocks 38.5 - 40 mm round watch equivalent. This 39.8 x 47.5 looks n feels like a 41 - 42mm round watch. Thanks for the vid, man.
Hey Aleks! Why did you change your Pam for this one? I am in the exact same dilemma. In my case is the size. I am now looking for something a little more refined and smaller.
Thanks for your videos. That is a great watch. I'm confused with Cartier sizing, does this watch measure 39.8mm case edge to case edge or from case edge to edge of crown guard/crown?
@@AleksWatches I've looked at Santos 100 medium that Cartier measure as 35.6mm but everyone identifies as 33mm. A 40mm square watch is huge. Even the Monaco is smaller. Be great if you could do a measurement 😁

It's not worth the price to be honest. No screw down crown and 42 hr reserve for $8k not good for constant daily wear. My quickswitch system failed after a year from wearing down the lug area changing straps. Dings dents and scratches are well hidden but they are there.
When you adjust the rubber strap, what are you supposed to do with the extra slack? Is the watch designed to "fold back" the extra slack, or do you keep it running in the same direction around the wrist? Same question for leather strap.
@@AleksWatches but it’s interesting to know when they get bigger scratches if it shows the steel color or not. Because if it does it won’t be that nice over time!
