      Yes! I have the same issue! I live in a mobile home, my husband works from home, and my son works 36 hours on the weekends so he is home all day during the week. There is nowhere to go so someone won't hear me and I've felt so inhibited doing the silly sounding exercises, or that I will annoy one of them (I am easily annoyed by other ppls' sounds lol), or embarrassed when they hear my voice crack as I am reaching to expand my range. She's so good!!

      Victoria, oh my goodness, you make me laugh so much! Yet at the same time, you teach extremely practical tips and I love that you dealt with the mental piece of it in this video. I know I am a good singer, but am afraid to let myself shine (due to some childhood ridicule, by a parent and other school children-who used to call me Tarzan! Lol). Thank you for "embarrassing yourself" first (I didn't think you GOT embarrassed? 😅 You're so freely silly, which I love!). I absolutely adore you. 😍

I have an acapella audition at my uni, these tips will definitely go a long way!

    Thank you for everything you put out, Victoria! :) I'm a trans man, and I'm trying to re-learn how to sing while I also work on achieving a more masculine resonance. I've continuously tried to learn vocal technique, but a lot of the advice I've heard has felt vague and hard to follow, and not knowing if I'm understanding it right only makes my anxiety worse. I love the way you explain things, though. You seem like a very genuine person and the way you talk in general is very fun to listen to. It keeps my attention when my ADHD would usually make it impossible to follow along fully. I'm looking into getting a vocal coach and I can only hope their teaching style is something like yours!

    What I just discovered today that also helped was pulling up songs that are fun, such as songs you grew up listening to that provides a memory or in my case, singing along to disney songs and musicals. My voice (after being fully warmed up and I get out of my own head) just naturally comes out with much more ease and even a vibrato sneaks in here and there by singing these types of songs (for me anyway)! The more fun you have, the more you are distracted and get out of your own head! Now the next step is to have more control of my singing during other times.
    Thank you for your Victorious Vocal Tip, Victoria! It helped a lot!

    My “head case” is my biggest obstacle. Yep, I’m in self-imposed prison. While growing up, I tried singing in the choir at church. The hymns were often too high or too low or, most often, split my range in two. I thought you’re either born “with it” or “without it.” Due to my difficulties, i concluded that I didn’t have it. Even in garage bands and church combos, I never sang. Now, just as I start to build some momentum, I get sinus infections that settle in my throat and take weeks to clear up, so I have to basically start over.

    Another Saturday and another video. I look forward to them. Was going to ask about the idea some nervousness could result from lack of trust in one's preparation or technique -if you don't know what or how you are singing it's hard to know what to do if 'what comes naturally' doesn't come. But instead, after seeing the picture of you in the slammer, I wonder if "Folsom Prison Blues" is in your repertoire?

    • @Victoria-Victorious
      @Victoria-Victorious  2 года назад +5

      Oh sure, nervousness in performance can definitely be from lack of trust in preparation, BUT some singers never even get to that point because they always hold back in practice, never learning to let the voice out.

    So how does a person get from these exercises- conscious awareness of what the body is supposed to feel like to subconscious engagement of the mind and body when singing? Because I can only sing using the techniques these exercises teach when I’m not thinking about singing. When I’m just enjoying music and singing along in a car or while cleaning. But when it comes to practicing and improving my singing ability I lose that knowledge of the way the body is supposed to feel and I get tense and closed up, every time. Even if I’m just in front of myself.

    Oh yes...knees shaking , hyperventilating..so bad that when I would try to sing a song I would have to have the music tech person stop the music and start over again....ugh hated that.
