I don't usually weigh in on things like this, but I really think they missed the mark hard here. In terms of no other wireless headphones not being able to hit the same performance mark for the same or close money, the Fiio LC-BT2 neckband which comes in both of the IEM standard connections (MMCX, 2pin) is 100 USD, and can be used with any IEM that uses those standard connections. And the battery lasts for ages. The neckband in the video has what appears to be non-standard connections, which means that the neckband is compatible with that IEM, and maybe others put out by Beyer. I would also argue 7hz salnotes zero over their iems based of the graph alone and looking at people who got more than 1 sample and how wildly different they graph.

Great that you are adding frequency responses to these videos now. If possible could we get a techquickie how to read these? It'd also be really helpful if there was a target curve like the harman IEM curve. Its hard to tell what the lines indicate without a target
I think the reason why they're using the APP2 is because the B&K 5128 isn't Harman compliant, meaning that you can't just put the Harman target on the graph as compared to the older GRAS rigs. Thick foamy squish tips are the best for when you have sealing issues. They don't last forever, but I try to get ahold of them for IEMs whenever possible
The wireless is interesting but at $1200 it's a rly tough buy when I could get a pair of moondrop blessing 2 dusk and Galaxy buds pro 2 for $500. One of the best Wired and Wireless IEM for less then half the price. Heck if u wanted that nice metal build quality you could even do the Sennheiser IE600 and Pro 2 and still come in under the Beyer's.
Do an Amazon search this has been a massively popular form factor since before true wireless earbuds when you needed the big neckband to fit the battery and electronics.
Had neckband ear buds from Samsung like 6+ years back. The band irritated the skin on the back of my neck over time and the weird hanging weight is hard to ignore. There's a reason this design has fallen out of favor.
@@LightPink cheap ones color the sound, and good ones are in the 70-140$ range and need to be factored into a purchase, granted, no matter what you buy, the 7hz zero, blessing 2, monarch mk2 (the only iems that realistically matter) it comes out cheaper than this crap they reviewed.
Might want to put the harman target somewhere on the graphs next time. Lol nice feature of the blessing 2 dusk (they fit nice and snug deep as long as your willing to suffer for a few days to stretch your earhole for that 7mm nozzle).
I think they're using the B&K 5128 for measuring which isn't Harman compliant. Harman does have a 5128-compensated Harman target for them but Samsung barred them from disclosing it to the public.
neckband is better than tws imo. If in any case you want to unplug the earphone, you dont need to find the case to secure the earbud, just keep it dangling in your neck and use it again.
This! I found this form factor super convenient, plus the battery is usually better without the need of a case, and touch controls are usually a mess in earphones so the tactile buttons not directly on your ear is just great.
This style is by far my least favorite, I would much rather just use the cable or have air pods style tws. I find that the cable gets really annoying around my neck..
@@emilhelander I found this form factor really useful because I need to take them off and on constantly, I prefer this to true wireless most of the time, especially if they have touch controls, that's a big no for me.
@@emilhelander Not losing the IEMs is great and in theory these sort of neck types can have better battery life with less compromise on using more of the IEM's body for drivers/audio. This is supposed to be a tradeoff, and it feels like the tradeoff has not yet been made properly compelling.
Personally I would prefer to just buy an IEM at $300 range and pair it with a bluetooth cable, which is actually the setup that I currently use (just not with $300 IEM but much cheaper IEM). For me personally, this is a much better setup than buying a true wireless IEM since like mentioned in the video, it should be much harder to lose your buds, and also if the battery gone bad, you don't have to throw away an IEM that still producing good sound. Of course normally it doesn't have ANC or pass-through, but usually the seal is good enough and for pass-through, I can just wear it a bit loose, thus allowing more ambient sound to go through, and if I want to talk to someone, I can just remove the IEM and let it dangling .
Love Dan but there's a lot missing from this review. Detail, soundstage, decay, differences between wireless and wired modes. Audio isn't just about timbre which can generally be equalized anyway.
I think that's how it's supposed to be when they do an unboxing like this. If they really like the product or they get sponsored by the maker of the product they do an in depth review bit this channel is Mainly for a quick short review/unboxing. Could be completely wrong but that's what it seems like.
So did labs run the tests again after the firmware update? how often do these kind of devices need updates? thanks everyone and I hope you enjoy the new year! (and all of the religious holidays as well if you partake).
These don't seem to nail sound quality, which is a real shame. However, I love the approach they've taken in terms of design. They managed to combine two products with the main features of each. IEM's typically have great build quality and sound, they're very durable and you can swap the cables if and when they get damaged. wireless earbuds (technically wireless IEM's, but whatever) often have app support and easy pairing, nice quality-of-life features, but have comparably lackluster sound for the price. The problem is that many people don't want wired IEM's nowadays, but wireless stuff is packed with tech and prone to wearing out very quickly compared to wired audio gear. Beyerdynamic took some of the best features of each product and rolled them into one. When the Bluetooth adapter dies, you can not only still use these wired, but you can also replace the Bluetooth adapter with a different model. Or, you could even swap the IEM piece and make any of your other IEM's wireless, with app support to boot. It's a first stab at a new product type, but I love the innovation and can't wait to see this kind of thing become more affordable.
Hi LTT folks, love these reviews, and I do appreciate the labs graphs, but...could you please, please, please, use some different colours for them in the future, or different line styles. I'm Red/Green colourblind here and I had some major trouble with which line was which on these.
The other options is buying a nice pair of IEM from Sennheiser or any IEM that you like with standard connecter, than buy a wireless neck loop thing from Sennheiser or audio-technica
Love the charts you guys are doing with labs!!! Are you able to make the colors more contrasting in future videos? Between my eyes and my phone it's hard to tell. Love you LTT Fam! Have a great 2023!
Not having a customizable EQ with $1200 wireless headphones is unforgivable to me, especially if the presets are all bad. There's plenty of more mainstream priced products that do let you EQ and get within at least 90-95% range of these exclusive high priced ones at a fraction of the price.
Damn they have very clear V-shape frequency response. Audiophile community usually hates V-shape and those are clearly marketed towards audiophiles. The are some better IEMs available for lower price though usually you need to spend some extra for wireless TWS or BT-cable “adapters”. Or even balanced cable if you are into DAPs with balanced outs (they are cool and give you much more amplification)
Dan, Anthony, Colton (and Linus when he's testing *normie* stuff like the gaming drinks) are the best of the best. Oh and Dennis on CSF hahaha I love them. Seriously
8:06 Shure makes the true wireless adapter for their iems. So, you can get very good quality sound in a wireless earbud package. You can literally get the Se535 + the tws adapter for $688 rn on Amazon.
"wired" wireless buds are a good idea on paper, but in reality there are far to much points where it can go wrong. Sooner or later the wire part between neck band and volume module will break. Loved the sound and security of not losing the Jaybirds, but 2 sets didn´t last 3 years
I can't see the thick rubber band wire like on the vids will break anytime soon... I could see it'll break easily if its a thin wire like most jaybirds model I searched. My huawei Freelace last me more than 3 years and still keep me entertained.
I've been using neckband-style wireless IEMs years now and the only part that's failed (and only once) was a faulty charger. No broken wires, no loose ends. It helps that neckbands like these are usually made for more athletic use cases too.
I don’t think worrying about losing your wireless in ear headphones is reasonable unless you don’t care where to put them, they rest in my pocket when i’m out and on my bedroom table when i’m home, I don’t worry about losing my keys and they’re smaller or about the same size
Having owned many pairs since the original galaxy buds, I have never had any losses. Though a few other people I know have lost one side but not sure how. I never put them anywhere but my ears or the case if I am out. The new AirPods Pro 2 have find my and noise making so lots of way to find them now.
I would hope any bluetooth headphones being released these days can support the "upcoming" Bluetooth LE audio/LC3 codec. Something that has always prevented me from buying expensive wireless is that bluetooth just doesnt hold a candle to wires. And also you need the latest phone to support bluetooth 5.2 in the first place
The Bluetooth standard is a completely mess: LDAC is from Sony, APTX is from Snapdragon (and to have Aptx HD they have to pay to have that feature. That's why Samsung doesn't have it on their phone), SBC is from Samsung, iPhone wants only sh*tty AAC. I've bought a good DAC with APTX HD some years ago. Some months ago I've bought a Samsung phone and it sounds awful because the dac only support APTX and the phone support only the base version of APTX... The dac went from sounding decent to completely sh*t on my setup. On a jack, type C, or any standard way of delivering data you don't have any of these issues: the audio starts from the phone dac and goes into the magnet. The end. One standard connector.
@@TrioLOLGamers well fiio btr7 support both codecs, ldap nad aptx. currently i am using them with ldac on my samsung galaxy s22 ultra. ans it sound great.
Any of the Thieaudio IEMs in the $500+ price would be better. Unique Melody Mest MKI/MKII, price comparable stuff from Fearless Audio and SeeAudio. Kinera Nanna Imperial 2.0. Plenty of chi-fi IEMs that would be as good or better than these from a pure sonic standpoint.
@@fastgecko5799 I mean they _have_ done a showcase of the weed Grados lol They won't ever do proper reviews on the main LTT channel aside from showing off tech but in Short Circuit, I can see it.
I love the video, but the argument “you could lose them” or “they’ll fall out” has been irrelevant for at least 3 years now. Almost every wireless bud has means to protect, and the vast majority of consumers don’t lose their buds. There are much better arguments for wired buds, but using those just comes off as old and out of touch
He calls out the 3k bump in the airpods in the frequency analysis & attributes it to Beyerdynamic. Unless the graph is marked up wrong. No corrections are made though.
So glad someone trustworthy is doing neckband, as a tradie I don't want TWS earbuds coz they are uncomfortable with ear muffs. Neckbands work well but there are so many scams channels n rtings isn't reliable for neckbands. Earbuds can fall out n be a safety hazard while neckbands are encouraged. Please help tradies LTT, btw all our major computer stores like MSY, Umart, scorptec talk good about LTT that's how I came to know bout ya. Literally search on RUclips for Bluetooth neckbands n you will see the scam void
The neck brace wireless in ear format to me is so far superior to the true wireless one. No bulky carrying case, no charging breaks in the case because they don't last a full day and most importantly taking one out of the ear because you need to hear what's going on doesn't mean juggling the small thing somewhere, it just hangs there without possibility of loosing it. Also much more comfortable most of the time because the earplugs themselves are way lighter as they don't need to have buttons, batteries and stuff like that.
I have the shure se215 but I had to go thru so many shure cables because the cable would fraye very easily and I ended up getting a pair of fiio fa1 iems and the cable is built better since the cable is flexible and was even cheaper. I mainly used the shure se215 for making phone calls because of the in line mic but the shure cables are not bendable especially when I had to wear them to get a really good seal and the cable needs to be bent when adjusting them and the shure cables would just break way too easily. There are mixed reviews on amazon about certain mmcx cables that have an in line mic. I also have the moondrop quarks the non dsp version since it has an in line mic but i have them as a back up pair of iems plus they are cheaper than any bluetooth headphones and sound better than any bluetooth headphones.

Damn... Is Dan that nervous or why does he shake that much 🤯🤯🤯 And tbh... I can't even solder because i'm shaking that much all the time 😢😢😢
Thick foamy squish tips are the best for when you have sealing issues.

The neckband is a fantastic form factor and they need to make more of them
Do an Amazon search this has been a massively popular form factor since before true wireless earbuds when you needed the big neckband to fit the battery and electronics.
Had neckband ear buds from Samsung like 6+ years back. The band irritated the skin on the back of my neck over time and the weird hanging weight is hard to ignore. There's a reason this design has fallen out of favor.
Why not get a Bluetooth receiver that can be used with any wired headphones?
@@LightPink cheap ones color the sound, and good ones are in the 70-140$ range and need to be factored into a purchase, granted, no matter what you buy, the 7hz zero, blessing 2, monarch mk2 (the only iems that realistically matter) it comes out cheaper than this crap they reviewed.
went full circle from wired headphones
More dan!
Yay another Dan video. He’s a great host.
Harman is outdated. Its too shouty.
Gonna echo what everyone else is saying. love Dan here with the audio ShortCircuit.
I love Dan! I wanna see more of him in videos.
neckband is better than tws imo.
It’s been a long time since I’ve seen one of these wired wireless earbuds. I actually have a pair, just not nearly as expensive as this.
This. You could get IEMs and a FiiO Bluetooth receiver/DAC and have several hundred dollars left compared to these.
Dan is the Morgan Freeman of LTT
Love Dan but there's a lot missing from this review. Detail, soundstage, decay, differences between wireless and wired modes. Audio isn't just about timbre which can generally be equalized anyway.
I think that's how it's supposed to be when they do an unboxing like this. If they really like the product or they get sponsored by the maker of the product they do an in depth review bit this channel is Mainly for a quick short review/unboxing. Could be completely wrong but that's what it seems like.
@@trevorflake7854 First impressions, unboxing. "Not a review!" gets yelled at me often.
Yeah it's definitely not a proper review, and neither are any of the videos on Short Circuit.
I love you Dan...
It's not like it hasn't been mentioned enough but YEEEY; Hi Dan! :D
Yeah agreed.
"I call him 'nipples', because he only comes up to here." Dan, you're fucking killing me xD
As someone on who doesn't know how to read the frequency graph, a video about it would be lovely
Dan is the Christmas gift I want under my tree 🎁 🎄
he has such a radio voice ... so good
Dan, Anthony, Colton (and Linus when he's testing *normie* stuff like the gaming drinks) are the best of the best.
Oh and Dennis on CSF hahaha
I love them. Seriously
I like Dan for audio related short circuits.
Prefer a balanced armature in-ear monitors for like a 1/8th of the price.....
Relaxing and calimg voice should get sponsor from Headspace with Dan
8:06 Shure makes the true wireless adapter for their iems. So, you can get very good quality sound in a wireless earbud package. You can literally get the Se535 + the tws adapter for $688 rn on Amazon.
Hell yeah another Dan video!
1:25 You don‘t have to use their driver?😂 finally an IEM you can upgrade that’s very innovative
I've always been scared of losing a tws while travelling as there's a risk of them falling out while on the train or driving.
If y'all love Dan. Like the video to show out support. We want to see him regularly.
"dbrand, they're chaotic a**holes..." -Dan
Dan, keep being awesome! Also, LTT, please keep getting sponsored by dbrand.
I’m not convinced a chi-fi wired set wouldn’t be as good, time for a proper test of the chi-fi marker.
They literally won't review stuff that isn't some form of wireless (or it doesn't seem like it anyway)
Any of the Thieaudio IEMs in the $500+ price would be better. Unique Melody Mest MKI/MKII, price comparable stuff from Fearless Audio and SeeAudio. Kinera Nanna Imperial 2.0. Plenty of chi-fi IEMs that would be as good or better than these from a pure sonic standpoint.
moondrop review when
@@fastgecko5799 I mean they _have_ done a showcase of the weed Grados lol
They won't ever do proper reviews on the main LTT channel aside from showing off tech but in Short Circuit, I can see it.
@@jamescruz8678 they did a shortcircuit video on the IE 600 too I think, but that's about it
Been waiting for this!!
Dan is fantastic. I definitely feel like I can trust his perspective.
not giving you a balance MMCX cable in the box for the cost is a slap in the face.
DO MORE IEM REVIEWS.
i also want to know your thoughts on the current Chi-Fi Market
For $1200 they should sound fantastic and be easily eq-able. My $200 pixel buds pro sound great with a tiny bit of EQ.
More Dan content and more audio/audiophile content would be awesome!
I lvoe a good Dan video, and I'm very excited to see information coming from labs!
"Labs tried to open with their teeth" looool. Dan is awesome.
He calls out the 3k bump in the airpods in the frequency analysis & attributes it to Beyerdynamic. Unless the graph is marked up wrong. No corrections are made though.
Dan @ 11:00 "I can't describe why they're not good"
Also Dan @ 12:08: "I think they sound nice"
Which is it?
you guys should get some chifi iems to review. you'll be surprised how cheap they are for their great sound
Love Dan so much.
Have dan do all of the reviews from now on
When are we going back to IEM unboxing/reviews guys
Would have been interested in how they sounded wired. Not surprised they would sound lacking with included Bluetooth neckband.
Idk if I missed it but in what universe can you justify a $1200 pricetag for in ear earphones? Also what are in ear monitors?
Just an FYI, for red/green color deficient people (~1/12 males), the chart comparing the airpods was hard to distinguish.
"I call him nipples because he only comes up to here" Oh Dan, how I love you so. And if that was scripted I also love you Script Writer.
I like this dudes voice and way of talking
Anyone notice they posted the shure 535 discontinued pic at around 8:10 describing what can be had at a lower price lol
The background at 4:26 is killing me 😂
the dbrand ad read was wild
So a 2 in one package. A Bluetooth adapter for mmcx IEMs and a pair of IEMs. Cool.
I don't believe headphones should be worth more than 200. Ever. No matter what. Holy fuck.
we need more Dan
