This is super corny but I love silly episodes like this. To see guys my age having fun working together makes me feel normal these days haha
Also worth noting for the Tesla layoffs is that they cut off a bunch of internships at the most a couple of weeks before a lot of them began. A lot of my friends just don’t have a job anymore. They were planning their flight to get there, had already spent money on apartments, and now have an apartment far from home with no use case.

I want to say a person thank you for talking about Bird Buddy. I bought it the second you mentioned it, for my wife, and she loves it. And you can share it with multiple people. So I can see when we get a new bird on my phone and her best friend and my best friend also gets the same notification. We had a bit of trouble with a high jumping squirrel but we hung it from a tree branch with a fish wire and it's fine now. She LOVES IT!
Also, you can def have more than 2 people. Cause we have 3 people on it.

Could be hisense based on screensaver clock. I did order the boox palma to mimic his setup though. It doesn’t need to be flashed to have standard android.

I wonder how Rabbit will handle the fact that they sold an app and a simplified and buggy phone for $200
I think it's difference cuz if they released an app then due to android restrictions they can't call an Uber for you or do anything like LAM does in rabbit r1 since Google doesn't let third part apps to control the whole OS which is good for privacy
They weren't going to sell many of these stupid boxes anyway.
I think they knew when building the hardware that there was nothing special about the device.

I got into “birding” from using the Merlin Bird ID app from Cornell Labs! It uses audio to tell you what birds you’re hearing, what they look like, AND even playback those birds’ songs!
The other night I was having a good back and forth with a Barred Owl. It was a hilariously good time. Definitely worth checking out!!

I've been building the same habit in the last 6 years but it's used to be hit or miss cause the clunky ui and ads till I found readera.
Btw if you got an issue with reading a pdf format, I highly reccomend wps office! well the lite version.. that used to me my biggest turn off of reading the only existence of the book on pdf format

I agree with Marques on the YT shorts issue. While I agree that having a longer limit would make creating shorts easier, the challenge to make them fit under 60 seconds can be good for creativity. Many times I've reluctantly trimmed parts of my shorts to make them fit the timeframe, only to prefer the shorter edit when considering adding the cut parts back in for a longer, regular yt video.
I've also sometimes made multipart shorts, which I understand doesn't quite work when the viewer is scrolling through shorts and doesn't have the context of the earlier parts, but at least you can now add a link to a "related video" so the viewer can, if they want, go back on the chain of parts.
Favorite part of this ep is where they discuss Pigeon V Boxes. You just can't get that kind of insight anywhere else!

i saw David's review of the R1. when he got to the part of 'things he would change to make it better', my immediate thought was "Rabbit R1 Pro? Rabbit R2?"

The last 15 minutes of the podcast felt like a fever dream
Bird buddy is sweet I’ve had mine for a year. Solar roof still going strong I’ve never charged it. Different feed will attract different birds! Surprising amount that change throughout the year!
Last week later, this week earlier. There is no schedule for Waveform, must always be ready.
The Nexus 5 orange was a similar color. Haven't seen the rabbit in person yet though.
I think Andrew would like the iNaturalist app, you take a picture of any living being and it shows you the species that should match and other information. I like doing it with bugs and spiders mostly
I love your content so much. I don't have YT Premium so I usually listen to podcast on a Podcast app but I also open your RUclips Video for few minutes as well, just to add to your views.
Definitely my favorite group of people making a podcast!
I disagree with the 'carrying a dedicated camera' equivalency because with a camera, the key difference is the hardware, specifically the lenses size and variability. With these devices the key part is all information. Just like the example of a real life personal assistant, the are more effective at their job the more knowledge about you, your preferences and your timetables they have.

My teacher has a competition going on in class where we have to go out and recognize birds for points and if we get a picture we get 2 points but there is this app where it uses your phone mic to listen for birds and if we get one from that app we get half a point and its actually pretty fun so I encourage people to go birding after listening to the podcast or whenever. Also that app is called Merlin.
Have been thinking of getting a bird buddy for a long time since I love birdwatching. Might have to finally take the plunge. That app is so cool.

I love my dad so much, I wish he was still here. That portion of this podcast made me remember that time me and my dad enjoyed with our Xbox

I'm with David. Ban short form content. Make the barrier to entry higher, there won't be an endless stream of trash because people will actually have to TRY to make engaging content

I think from perspective of Rabbit it makes sense to make it a device:
1) someone needs to pay for cloud, so the app would not be free. And people hate paying for apps that are broken, plus a device is easier to market as mentioned. They would not have the same reach without.
2) Relying on APIs is not part of their vision and they rely on user training. If R1 was an app on the phone it might know a bit more about you if you gave it permissions, but it would not solve the interoperability problem fully. While if the user purchases the device, they might be incentivised to spend more time with it and train it.
I agree that it should be an app, but for the first product the strategy is understandable.
Best part of the show is when you all go off the rails, please keep it up

Rabbit R1 is not an app because of OS permissions. Google Android and iOS have locked down several APIs and require the user to consent to sensors being used (like the camera, gps or microphone). Certain features, such as background audio processing done by Google Assistant, use special co-processors that are not accessible by regular apps. By creating their own hardware, they can put whatever sensors they want and use them however they want without interference or transparency. Even if the current R1 is pretty basic today, they've set themselves up with hardware production to easily expand in the future.
54:00 90 seconds is pushing it, past that the line that divides the app clearly from short form and long form gets blurrier

I think Rabbit are worried that people will realise that a phone has the capability to do what the R1 does, which it can.
It wouldn’t take much at all to build an iOS app that would hook into SiriKit and link a few APIs to enable this sort of functionality.
Obviously the promise of the LAM is cool, but It’s super premature.

i don't use shorts, but i was so shocked by the time limit convo because the majority of tiktoks on my feed are longer than a minute..it's probably just a difference in content niches bc most of the tiktoks i interact with are beauty/makeup/hair, politics, fiber arts, and other things that require elaboration.

27:34 this is probably an issue with preprompts, when the rabbit puts the user information and location related information into the model context to generate a response, they should make sure the model understands what type of information was given and how it was collected. that way the model can answer your question accurately
I don't get many trivia questions right, but i was yelling Angry Birds at my TV. Just seemed like the right time frame.
To answer the final off the rails question. Xbox is still directX based from a purely technical stand point.
Game developers don't have to think about that kind of thing as much anymore compared to mid 2000s. Vulkan and DX12 have very easy to use translation layers, just that one is open source and the other is Microsoft proprietary so you have a call line when you have a problem, basically.
So the end result is that from the game's standpoint they're both supported.
