"Metroid prime 4 for the switch, here's hoping it comes out next year and nothing gets delayed" OUCH Edit June 2024: AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
DuoReview You absolutely need to try Super Metroid and Metroid Prime. Prime 1 was my first ever Metroid Game and it's easily my 2nd or 3rd favorite game of all time.
Johnny: "I guess that's the next time I'll see you guys when I go back to Metroid... Metroid Prime 4" *New Challenger Approaching* Metroid Dread: "Sup!"
RIP Screw Attack guy. Seriously though, I can't recommend this game enough. The start may kick your ass, but once you're really into it, it is an utter blast to play.
WiiManElite Well maybe you should, I don't know, get good? You must really suck if the common enemies still kill you in 2-3 hits with the varia suit. It should at least take like 7 hits.
Am I the only one who found this game easy? Not as much as ZM, but I found Fusion much tougher, and I didn't die here nearly as much as in Echoes (Favorite 3D Metroid game purely because of that challenge). Still, SR was a fantastic game and a great return to form after the abomination of Other M.
Adding onto what Johnny said at the end, I don't think it matters whether Samus Returns is better or worse than AM2R. At the end of the day, both are fantastic reinterpretations of the original Metroid 2. With two great remakes of a Game Boy classic and more Metroid on the way, there's no better time to be a Metroid fan.
+Blue I didn't play AM2R and don't have the time to hunt it down on the internet when my backlog is ginormous enough as is. I mean I got Freedom Planet during the Steam Summer Sale of 2015 & I FINALLY beat it after owning it for 2 years.
AM2R won’t take all that long to complete though. Even hunting down all the items the game took me under 5 hours to beat on normal. So I’d say you should definitely give it a chance.
If you think that Super Metroid is the be all end all metroid game, then you definitely enjoy AM2R most, which makes me believe that Johnny enjoyed it much more, but if you enjoyed Zero mission and Fusion more, you'll most likely like Samus Returns better.
Not the first time he sidestepped a marathon of reviews to suddenly cover one or two games that just got released. During his marathon of the Star Fox games, he held off on it after his review of Star Fox Adventures after being alerted the release of Metroid Prime Federation Force and AM2R.
honestly watching this almost 5 years later in a time where Metroid Dread actually exists, brings a small smile to my face. Mercury Steam was the perfect choice to bring back the Metroid Series
Samus Returns' sales may not seem very good, but apparently it had "firm sales" according to Nintendo in a financial report at the time (they say it on the 3rd page). www.nintendo.co.jp/ir/pdf/2017/171030e.pdf Nothing great by any means, but I think it did okay for Nintendo's expectations. I think that Dread can do significantly better though, because Metroid has shown that it can be a multi million seller with the right push (Prime sold almost 3 million despite it not being on Nintendo's best performing platform).
Buy it because it's a good game in a dying franchise of extraordinary quality to show the developers we want more. It's not a case like "buy Marvel Infinite so the franchise doesn't die even though the game is very flawed." It's a good game so support the devs, it's basic logic.
Falcondorf I haven't played AM2R and I don't feel like spending time hunting it down on the internet when my backlog is already ginormous enough as is.
Not to mention the whole fear mongering thing really only applies to non Metroid fans (people who shouldn't really be concerned with the AM2R vs. RoS thing). Metroid fans should be interested in Metroid games and the continued existence of the franchise.
There's a way to cut down on the 'stop and go' pace people compain about. Meleeing a frozen enemy shatters them. If you land an Ice Beam shot on an enemy that's rushing you, jump, and melee them mid-air, you can take them out without losing speed.
After failing to get into Metroid through Super and Fusion, and getting a good way through AM2R, Samus Returns is officially the first Metroid game I've completed, and now I'm a fan. I'll see if I can get my hands on the Metroid Prime Trilogy.
Strange that they gave us such a limited wall-jump. You'd think that, since we get the spider ball so early anyway, letting us wall-jump up a single wall wouldn't be a game-breaking ability for us to have.
Wow. Johnny must have been really happy playing this game. He not only wished us a fantastic night, but a "Fucking fantastic night". Well I'm cold and alone with no gf so I won't be experiencing a certain interpretation of that statement, but thanks anyway John.
Team Dusk I know the Feeling... Look at the Bright Side, at least you won't be Required to do Sh*t by others. You can literally "be your own Bounty Hunter", in some Sort.
Well, Johnny, there technically WAS a 3DS Metroid game that was scrapped, and that was a remake of Fusion... made by Mercury Steam. See, when Mercury Steam approached Nintendo to work on a Metroid title, they originally planned on remaking Fusion, but Sakamoto insisted they remade Metroid 2 instead. A wise decision in my opinion since Fusion is in absolutely no need of a remake and Metroid 2 was long overdue for the Zero Mission treatment.
After this what we need is Metroid 5, something that continues after Fusion's ending. After all she became a fugitive of the GF. + I really want an excuse to see Samus in her Fusion suit again.
They'd probably find an excuse to get her back in her standard Power Suit. The whole reason they made the Fusion Suit in the first place was due to an unfounded fear that Samus' design growing stale. I'm not joking about this.
WiiManElite How do you know AM2R is what led Nintendo to remake Metroid 2? Is that a completely true claim or are you just automatically assuming things?
Gameshunter92 Metroid 5 setup: - Samus has destroyed Federation research against orders (for the second time if Other M is counted as canon) and made Metroids extinct - the Federation had interest in studying and weaponising the X parasites, but they're also extinct - again, thanks to Samus - Samus is now the only source of Metroid DNA in the universe If done right this could lead to an epic story of Samus fighting against a corrupt Federation, because she's destroyed every opportunity they had of creating bioweapons.
Luke Leitner I feel like those games are tricky to review, especially for Johnny, because they're purely story, there's not really gameplay, so when Johnny goes over the story, as he always does, he's spoiling the entire game, and if he skipped the story, there's nothing to review.
Billythepancake well Johnny's never been a stranger to spoiling a game's whole story. The only times he doesn't really do it are when it's a very recent game, like how in this one he didn't say who the true final boss was
I died about 40 times and I ENJOYED EVERY SKIN-TEARING, TEETH-GRITTING MOMENT OF IT! Edit: Except the Digger boss - on first playthroughs, that thing can burn.
This was such a great game. Had a few blemishes but it was honestly pretty damn good. I don't think it's a cop-out to not compare it to AM2R either. Both are great games and the fanbase really should not be split because of it.
We are not splitting because of them; in fact, most of us debate in a civilized way or simply talk about why we prefer AM2R or Samus Returns. There are, unfortunately, some people that behave like kids and want everyone to hate Nintendo and the Metroid saga to die because of the "abomination" that Samus Returns is. Personally, I like both games; but I prefer Samus Returns to the point to be my favorite Metroid game.
No he did answer which he liked more, he said AM2R is one of his favorite metroid games... never said that about Samus returns. I bet that's just due to familiarity to zero mission tho
I can't even go to a Samus Returns-related video without at least one asshole starting an argument about AM2R, instead of treating this game as it's own fucking game. It's sad to see an intoxicated comment section in an otherwise fair video, and many more like-minded fans.
Be careful, a user of the name "WiiManElite" will come and bombard you with his fury saying Nintendo is as bad as Satan or whatever, and saying that this game is way worse than AM2R. Also, Amen.
Not like the Nintendo fanboys are any better. They will insult you for liking AM2R and they even insult the creators of the fangame itself. They are pretty hateful too. But what else you can expect from the comment section on RUclips?
I will say, they're approach with amiiboes on this was mostly terrible, which is sad, since the amiiboes themselves look great, especially squishy. In regards to fusion mode, what they should have done was have it unlocked by completing the game with 100% under a certain time or just beat the game under a certain time. But like with Mario Maker, any of the metroid amiiboes could be used to unlock fusion mode from the start.
DemiGreyPup the game actually took me 20 hours to finish ( I know, absolutely terrible time, especially for a Metroid game) and that's because I took the time to actually 100% it first time, the ending cutscene makes me think they might make a Fusion remake, I mean, they even give the Fusion suit in this game, this game was awesome

You can buy it on Fangamer. They do a bunch of game merch. I got the Wanderers Journal from Hollow Knight there. I have the RotN shirt myself. Since then it’s been serving as my YouTubing shirt.
I've been freaking checking RUclips religiously for the past week waiting for this review! HYYYYYPE! Edit: Welp, great review, Johnny. See you in Metroid Prime 4! As a side note, I love that both Johnny and Dunkey put up a review of this the same day!
happy 3rd anniversary metroid: samus returns!!! a very great return to the metroid series(especially the awesome amiibo that surprisingly added to it's atmosphere on it's launch.:3) that remembered why we love it(especially bringing back samus's true personality in a awesome visual way with her interactions with the baby metroid and hinting at the chozo reappearing which i've wanted since zero mission's storytelling.:3) and along with prime 4's announcement made up for it's failure with mother m/mishandling with federation force(nintendo should've realized fans weren't going to be happy with this game and should've kept it as blast ball or announced an untitled metroid project to keep fans from thinking it's the only thing they have.) and am glad out of nintendo's other "3"(metroid,star fox,f-zero) its been revived with only f-zero being the only dead one(though i have ideas that could help bring it back.) i hope along with prime 4(i'd love to see samus have interactions with the metroid sylux took in a similar style to the baby metroid and maybe have the galactic federation along with other bounty hunters get involved.) we get a new metroid game that follows up on fusion's events.(like having the chozo that raised samus be the focus, give samus more interactions while having a balance between vocal/visual narrative and be a mix of prime & the 2d games.)
Sora is a tall blonde muscular female space bounty hunter? That's... honestly, not as weird of a plot twist as you'd think, considering this is Kingdom Hearts we're talking about.
I’d much rather see Sora make it in as a Secret Superboss in a certain overhyped game that’s getting remade for PS4 but will take a great deal of time before coming out. The antagonist of this game was a Secret Boss of one of the Kingdom Hearts Games.
Also don’t forget to try out Kingdom Country 3: Sora’s Triple Trouble He has to deal with 3 antagonists all at the same time while navigating his way across the country on different water boats.
Replicated from my notes on Ted & Ryan's review of the game: (Spoilers) 1. The counter is too strong, but at least it isn't spamable like the sense move in Other M. 2. The lack of boss variety and enemy/ location designs is noticeable. They could have used the enemies/bosses from Fusion (since the BSL is located above SR388). I would have loved to see Serris or Yakuza. 2B. The Grinder boss can burn in hell. That thing was terrible. I had to look up how to get past that stage, and even then I didn't know about the Spiderball trick until the Queen made the think about it. 3. Ridley was way out of place. I didn't see a reason for him to be there at all other than because he's Ridley. Now if there was a moment in the game where you discover a Space Pirate base and the pirates are harvesting Metroids, and you fight pirates through out the game then I'd be okay with it. Granted this is probably the best 2D Ridley fight. 4. The backtracking for all the items. The fact that you have to go back through every area after getting the baby Metroid was the dumbest thing ever. Things I like: 1. The Aeon abilities are actually pretty solid, and I like how they are implemented. 2. The general atmosphere, music and art direction of SR388 are wonderful 3. Samus's personality is great in this game. No words, just actions and body language. It was so satisfying when she blasts the Grinder when it tries getting up, and the scene where she finds the baby is done really well. 4. Free aiming works really well. I hope to see it come back. Overall I'd give it an 8.5/10, and recommend playing it. This is the game that Other M should have been.
Actually, the baby Metroid is only truly required for 3 upgrades. All the others have another way around that's pretty well hidden. But I guess they shouldn't have made the shortcuts so obvious that most players won't bother looking more carefully... I agree that upgrades exclusive to end-game is a bit of a bummer, but it's actually nowhere near as bad as Fusion and Zero Mission. I honestly didn't hate the Grinder all that much. My only complain was that its battle was way too long for its own good. It was the right amount of challenge, and made me feel smart for figuring out how to beat it, but my gosh, even once I did, that was quite an endurance test. Other than that, I completely agree. I feel like people are being too harsh on the Counter and Aeon abilities. They could definitely use some tweaking, but they didn't ruin my experience with the game. I think the best way to fix the Counter would be to not make it such a better option than everything else, really. The early enemies are way too tanky, like they were begging you to use it.
And if you haven't played Super Metroid, you wouldn't know that Shinesparking exist in either of the GBA games, so the list could go beyond 6 as well by that logic.
You can tell Johnny must be pretty happy seeing all these old 2d games coming back in some fashion e.g Sonic Mania, the Castlevania animated series and of course now Samus returns. All thats left now is a remake of the classic 2d Ninja Gaiden and I'll be happy.
Metroid: Samus Returns is no question the savior the Metroid fanbase needed. As you mentioned, it is not a god tier game in the veins of Super Metroid and Metroid Prime, but Samus Returns did not need to be that great, it just needed to be a good game and it succeeded. Whereas Federation Force was the victim of bad timing, Samus Returns reaped the awards of coming out at the right time when a fanbase was hungry for a new game closer to Metroid's early days.
I disagree. After a near decade of disappointments (Other M, Federation Force), Nintendo needed to give us a fantastic game as an apology. Instead, we got an average, low budget Metroid game (I say low budget cuz there are plenty of enemies from the original game that were cut out). I still bought it to support the franchise, but I was definitely left underwhelmed.
Samus Returns was exactly what the series needed at that time. It may not be the best or even that much of a great Metroid game. But it was an step in the right direction in which Dread later pick every part of the game up & massively improved on. I'm glad Samus Returns turn out at least good and later games pick it up to become better and bring Metroid back on it's feet.
AM2R is by far my favorite Metroid game. It's honestly amazing. But I feel like I can't say if it's better or not than Samus Returns. Samus Returns does a lot of stuff better than AM2R and vice versa. Both are incredible games but I don't feel like I can pick one over the other. As an example, AM2R honestly has the best soundtrack in the entire series. I'm madly in love with it. And I love how in Samus Returns, you can go back through the game with the baby after killing the queen. And honestly, I think that Samus Returns and AM2R are 2 totally different games. Look at the endings. After you kill the queen in AM2R, the music is peaceful. It's nighttime on SR388 and it's just beautiful and hopeful. You're almost sad that the planet is gonna get destroyed in Fusion. But in Samus Returns, it's ugly and green. It's a horrible planet and you can't wait to get off it. It ends on a much more uncertain note. Samus still has a lot of adventures left ahead of her. It's much more of a "to be continued" than the finality of AM2R's ending. And that exemplifies my point. They're totally different games. Maybe they should be compared, but I don't think I can compare them. Hell, just listen to Samus Returns' remix of Surface of SR388. It's completely different than AM2R's remix of Surface of SR388. Anyways, my point is, I now have 2 games as my favorite Metroid. And better yet, I have 2 incredible remakes of Metroid 2 that I can enjoy whenever I want
Flippy Sidee Can't agree with you more. Both are amazing Metroid games, for completely different reasons; most impressive of all to me though is how neither copied any unique setpieces, music, or mechanics from the other. The only similarities are because both are Metroid titles and because both are based on Metroid 2.
I don't know about you, but when Nintendo handed the DMCA to AM2R, it really felt like a sign that they were working on a Metroid 2 Remake themselves. It felt more specific than their other fan project shutdowns.

I think you do it a disservice by saying it's as linear as Other M or Fusion. There's no arbitrary locking doors for one thing and no bloody navigation rooms.
But the game still throws ridiculous amounts of blocks that discourage exploration. Slime walls, morph ball vents, red crystals, etc. Heck, the game forces you to collect EVERY ability in the game, while Metroid 2 and AM2R lets you skip the majority of them.
@@ultraspinalki11 Yeah, but they're the natural progression gates that you see in Super Metroid, rather than the artificial ones in Fusion and Other M, at least outside of the purple goo. We'll see as time goes on, which items are truly required. There has to be a sequence to begin with if you want to sequence break.
@@DarkLink1996. The bomb sucking vents seem very forced and unnatural if you ask me. As for skipping items, so far I've mostly seen out-of-bounds type of sequence breaking, which is basically breaking the game instead of the more fluid in-game sequence breaks seen in Zero Mission or Super Metroid.
It's not as "linear", but it's as "restrictive". There is a difference. Like Fusion and OM are just as linear as each other, but OM feels worse because it's more restrictive. AM2R is also as linear, but it's the least restrictive of all the 4 games in this conversation so it tends to feel the best. SR lies somewhere between Fusion and OM in terms of restrictiveness. It is a bit annoying, but it's still not that bad.
I know sequence breaking is a well loved part of the series but you can't complain that something that wasn't originally intended to be there isn't there
I swear watching these videos created by Johnny is such a relaxing time for me. After work, class, or when i just to smile relax. I also love to think about in the longer run comparing the games perspective of his and mines, it's amazing and great John thank you. Kg
You say Metroid "purists" may be put off by the tight linearity the game has...the original Metroid 2 was just as linear. You couldn't tank through the Metroid Lava walls with enough energy due to them being too long which you couldn't survive.
+smashbrosproductions You mean literally just that one guy? I've scrolled down pretty far and the comments, and have found exactly one guy doing that. Also, there are very few big fans of Metroid 2; also, you could totally tank through at least one of the lava paths, and I really don't remember why I know that.
I love most Metroid games despite thinking Super is the best : ( I actually really love this game, solid 9/10 for me, only issue being that the baby Metroid takes you through a final scan of the world. Power bombs should have destroyed those crystals, it would have given us a great clean up before getting to doing area 7.
Well I didn't play Super Metroid up until seven years ago, I was eighteen and got it on Wii virtual console. I had played almost every Metroid, except Prime 2 and Super Metroid and I was already a huge fan. I like the pacing of Super Metroid and how most items can be picked up at any given point if you have sequenced break.
Kingdom Hearts is a weird series it used to be about a kid trying to find his friends to a red echidna to a orange Bandicoot to a blue hedgehog to sexy space warrior what's next a possessed castle
From the bottom of my heart, thank you for not even a single passing mention of any "what ifs" involving "what if this game came out on the Switch". I am beyond tired of these types of remarks. I'm excited for what the future of Samus' adventures may hold if the hints in SR truly do imply what they seem to. We could be in for quite a ride.
And before many people say yeah it’s made by the same person I know but Johnny’s intro just sounds so ear pleasing as if it was in sonic mania it just fits so well for his channel
The biggest problem with this game was it was a 3DS title after the Switch had come out. This should have had a port made for the Switch not at release but later down the road. Something tells me if they put this on the Switch it would have sold much better. Hopefully Metroid Dread seizes this untapped market well so Metroid isn't a dormant series for another half a decade.
metroid prime 4 got delayed but for a good reason they want the game to be good, and that saying something since how bad the gaming industry is getting
I do too, even though samus returns is a damn impressive looking game for the 3DS, and the 3D is implemented fantastically, even though I’m one of the only five people who actually care about that gimmick. But man, what I’ve seen of Dread has really made me a believer in the 3D graphics due to how it does things that would be impossible in a sprite based game with all of its cinematic camera angles and dynamic cutscenes which really increase the sense of immersion. The glow up from being on the switch definitely helps.
In terms of where it lands on my list of Metroid titles... I'd probably put it around the same spot as Fusion, as both titles sacrificed certain parts of the Metroid experience in order to emphasize others. Fusion scaled down the exploration in order to more effectively communicate its story and atmosphere by sending the player through a predetermined path of rising tension and foreshadowing to future events. Samus Returns, on the other hand, underplays the minimalistic tone and some of the visual story-telling of its inspiration in order to better service the combat and aesthetic variety.
Despite being taken down, AM2R still had a happy ending: Milton Guasti got hired by Moon Studios and is currently working as a level designer for Ori and the Will of the Wisps.
PuppetMaster9 Yeah. Too bad I can't say the same for the Super Mario Bros Z reboot since Mark Haynes has dropped off the map.
+Bunnyboy King I wouldn't say the dude has completely dropped off the internet's face, since I've seen him comment here and there a few times on RUclips. In terms of making content though.... yea, I think the dude's done for, which is a shame because SMBZ looked it had potential to be a very good fan project.
Also, AM2R essentially got resurrected by some people who reverse-engineered it, so it's on version 1.31 (with 1.32 on the way).
BlazingWaters he just draws commissions for furries now.

honestly watching this almost 5 years later in a time where Metroid Dread actually exists, brings a small smile to my face. Mercury Steam was the perfect choice to bring back the Metroid Series
Same here; watching this video in present day is an experience in more ways than one
Buy Metroid Dread people. Metroid needs another comeback! This should be a multi million selling but Samus returns barely hit 500k.

to be fair, it was a 2017 game for the 3ds

Nothing great by any means, but I think it did okay for Nintendo's expectations. I think that Dread can do significantly better though, because Metroid has shown that it can be a multi million seller with the right push (Prime sold almost 3 million despite it not being on Nintendo's best performing platform).
I preordered it same day it was announced
I love how this video is just one second under the length of Johnny's AM2R video
Doesn't matter which one is better, both are still good games, just buy Samus Returns to make sure we get more of these

Flame of Udun The BAYBEEEEE
There's a way to cut down on the 'stop and go' pace people compain about. Meleeing a frozen enemy shatters them. If you land an Ice Beam shot on an enemy that's rushing you, jump, and melee them mid-air, you can take them out without losing speed.
My strategy for not using the counter a ton was ice beam+missle. It's actually very effective against enemies that can be frozen.
I'm so used to turning the Ice Beam off to speed up enemies' destruction in Super Metroid, I never even considered that XD
After failing to get into Metroid through Super and Fusion, and getting a good way through AM2R, Samus Returns is officially the first Metroid game I've completed, and now I'm a fan. I'll see if I can get my hands on the Metroid Prime Trilogy.
If you don't want to drop 60+ for a physical copy, I recommend getting Prime Trilogy on the WiiU eshop, where there it's only 20
Play Zero Mission
So far I only found myself beating zero mission I don't stay interested in the others for some reason.
If you didn't get through Super or Fusion, I have a hard time believing you'll get through the Prime trilogy. They're way bigger, longer, and slower.
Cameron Moore the prime games from what I have played gives you better direction
I was able to get the spider ball early with bomb jumping but that was pretty much it.
Strange that they gave us such a limited wall-jump. You'd think that, since we get the spider ball so early anyway, letting us wall-jump up a single wall wouldn't be a game-breaking ability for us to have.
The wall jump was basically worthless; I don't think I used it for anything at all.
Hooded Man I found a few uses for the wall jump early on but that's about it.
The Wall jump is useless now?!? then what was the point of me getting stuck in that locked room!
Hooded Man Yeah once you get the space jump the wall jump can't be used and is pretty useless.
Oh look another Metroid 2 remake
Sorry not sorry
Yet Another Metroid 2 Remake, if you will.

Wow. Johnny must have been really happy playing this game. He not only wished us a fantastic night, but a "Fucking fantastic night". Well I'm cold and alone with no gf so I won't be experiencing a certain interpretation of that statement, but thanks anyway John.
Team Dusk I know the feeling all too well
Its all right... i have a wife and wont have one either.
Team Dusk I know the Feeling... Look at the Bright Side, at least you won't be Required to do Sh*t by others. You can literally "be your own Bounty Hunter", in some Sort.

*I see the video*
"Just like I said."
WiiManElite Than why not start a Kickstarter campaign to get Nintendo wiped out?
Gameshunter92 Metroid 5 setup:
- Samus has destroyed Federation research against orders (for the second time if Other M is counted as canon) and made Metroids extinct
- the Federation had interest in studying and weaponising the X parasites, but they're also extinct - again, thanks to Samus
- Samus is now the only source of Metroid DNA in the universe
If done right this could lead to an epic story of Samus fighting against a corrupt Federation, because she's destroyed every opportunity they had of creating bioweapons.
First, Sora was an Echidna. Then a Bandicoot. After that, a hedgehog and now he's a Power Ranger. Kingdom Hearts has some weird games
Pancakes On Rage it's too confusing at this point for me to get into, I mean first I gotta stop eggman now Metroids!?

Luke Leitner I feel like those games are tricky to review, especially for Johnny, because they're purely story, there's not really gameplay, so when Johnny goes over the story, as he always does, he's spoiling the entire game, and if he skipped the story, there's nothing to review.
Billythepancake well Johnny's never been a stranger to spoiling a game's whole story. The only times he doesn't really do it are when it's a very recent game, like how in this one he didn't say who the true final boss was
"Metroid prime 4 next year" little did the poor Johnny knew
I died about 40 times and I ENJOYED EVERY SKIN-TEARING, TEETH-GRITTING MOMENT OF IT!
Edit: Except the Digger boss - on first playthroughs, that thing can burn.
Gale Storm I liked the boss fight but the chase scene was so annoying to deal with but still fun
Johnny's intro gets me in such a funky groove all day everytime.

Firstaid223 Metroid: Sora Doesn’t Return
>Here's hoping it comes out next year and nothing gets delayed.
FOUR YEARS LATER
This was such a great game. Had a few blemishes but it was honestly pretty damn good. I don't think it's a cop-out to not compare it to AM2R either. Both are great games and the fanbase really should not be split because of it.
We are not splitting because of them; in fact, most of us debate in a civilized way or simply talk about why we prefer AM2R or Samus Returns. There are, unfortunately, some people that behave like kids and want everyone to hate Nintendo and the Metroid saga to die because of the "abomination" that Samus Returns is.
Personally, I like both games; but I prefer Samus Returns to the point to be my favorite Metroid game.
it was terrible
CookieAlas
It really is a shame of how this fanbase is when it comes to SR and AM2R, seriously it's kinda depressing.
gmaster2647 Let's just hope something like this doesn't happen when Prime 4 eventually releases.
No he did answer which he liked more, he said AM2R is one of his favorite metroid games... never said that about Samus returns. I bet that's just due to familiarity to zero mission tho
I gotta say, I was expecting that last fight, but got REALLY hype when it happened anyways. Made me freak out like a schoolgirl.
Lucky me, I actually wasn't expecting it at all XD The music hit me like a train
I can't even go to a Samus Returns-related video without at least one asshole starting an argument about AM2R, instead of treating this game as it's own fucking game.
It's sad to see an intoxicated comment section in an otherwise fair video, and many more like-minded fans.
Amen
Be careful, a user of the name "WiiManElite" will come and bombard you with his fury saying Nintendo is as bad as Satan or whatever, and saying that this game is way worse than AM2R.
Also, Amen.
RockettheSlime
Yeah i have seen the comments of this guy
One guy out of hundreds of thousands is pretty good, actually; I haven't seen anyone at all here anyway.
Not like the Nintendo fanboys are any better. They will insult you for liking AM2R and they even insult the creators of the fangame itself. They are pretty hateful too. But what else you can expect from the comment section on RUclips?
Metroid, samus returns to planet 358/2 which is coded in birth by sleep
+cyberlox LOL!
I love his intro so much, it is so smooth and feels official, like an opening for a TV show or something. Keep on keeping on Johnny! ^_^
The coincidence of this upload time, I literally *JUST* beat Samus Returns (like 5 minutes ago!!)
Irony?
MCLGaming coincidence, Or conspiracy?
MCLGaming And I just beat Freedom Planet a few hours ago after owning it for 2 years.
Bunnyboy King cool
DemiGreyPup the game actually took me 20 hours to finish ( I know, absolutely terrible time, especially for a Metroid game) and that's because I took the time to actually 100% it first time, the ending cutscene makes me think they might make a Fusion remake, I mean, they even give the Fusion suit in this game, this game was awesome

happy 3rd anniversary metroid: samus returns!!!
a very great return to the metroid series(especially the awesome amiibo that surprisingly added to it's atmosphere on it's launch.:3) that remembered why we love it(especially bringing back samus's true personality in a awesome visual way with her interactions with the baby metroid and hinting at the chozo reappearing which i've wanted since zero mission's storytelling.:3) and along with prime 4's announcement made up for it's failure with mother m/mishandling with federation force(nintendo should've realized fans weren't going to be happy with this game and should've kept it as blast ball or announced an untitled metroid project to keep fans from thinking it's the only thing they have.) and am glad out of nintendo's other "3"(metroid,star fox,f-zero) its been revived with only f-zero being the only dead one(though i have ideas that could help bring it back.)
i hope along with prime 4(i'd love to see samus have interactions with the metroid sylux took in a similar style to the baby metroid and maybe have the galactic federation along with other bounty hunters get involved.) we get a new metroid game that follows up on fusion's events.(like having the chozo that raised samus be the focus, give samus more interactions while having a balance between vocal/visual narrative and be a mix of prime & the 2d games.)
Ahh the latest part of the kingdom hearts series where sora becomes a bounty hunter in space
camglo I gotta say, this series really jumped the shark ever since he turned into an echidna.
now I can't wait for him with a possessive hat!!!
Oh just wait until Sora parkours all across the world wearing this weird hat with eyes! *giggles in excitement*
Holy crap Im early! Time to make a funny joke:
I cant believe Sora is now a space bounty hunter after becoming a plataformer echidna.
You forgot the side step to a bandicoot
Also don’t forget to try out Kingdom Country 3: Sora’s Triple Trouble
He has to deal with 3 antagonists all at the same time while navigating his way across the country on different water boats.
The wait for metroid samus returns was so worth it. Still my 3rd favorite metroid game and my favorite 3DS game
Your videos are always such a relaxing, as well as entertaining of course, experience.
Thanks, man.
Replicated from my notes on Ted & Ryan's review of the game: (Spoilers)
Things I like:
1. The Aeon abilities are actually pretty solid, and I like how they are implemented.
2. The general atmosphere, music and art direction of SR388 are wonderful
3 upgrades is not that different from 6 upgrades, especially when you don't know that Spider-Sparking exists.
And if you haven't played Super Metroid, you wouldn't know that Shinesparking exist in either of the GBA games, so the list could go beyond 6 as well by that logic.
When I can't find a good video on pornhub, Johnny comes into action with a surprise upload.
Can always rely on him

Johnny Returns is my favorite Metroid game.
*Insert unoriginal joke about how the Kingdom Hearts formula has changed*
13:00 oh john if we only knew that it would be delayed
"I guess that's the next time I'll see you"

Mental Palace of Marcelo I like that Samus "Metroid" Aran part that's really funny!
You have those innocent people to blame. But no need, this isn't Sonic.Just tell them her name is Samus, and problem solved.
But can Metroid crawl in this game?
THANK YOU FOR SHOWING THE POWERBOMB TRICK! I've been skipping those spiked halls because I thought I was missing something!
And the Metroid alarm will go off for every review until dread comes out.
Kingdom Hearts: Samus Returns is the black sheep of the series.
Garrick Groover yeah hated it when sora went to this weird phase.

that's just too funny
Hopefully nothing gets delayed or anything like that.....
I know sequence breaking is a well loved part of the series but you can't complain that something that wasn't originally intended to be there isn't there
Zero Mission says hi. A time atrack mode and secret passageways that encourage low collectible speedrunning...it got accepted as part of the series.
I swear watching these videos created by Johnny is such a relaxing time for me. After work, class, or when i just to smile relax. I also love to think about in the longer run comparing the games perspective of his and mines, it's amazing and great John thank you. Kg

I LOVE LEAN, CHARLIE 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
You say Metroid "purists" may be put off by the tight linearity the game has...the original Metroid 2 was just as linear. You couldn't tank through the Metroid Lava walls with enough energy due to them being too long which you couldn't survive.
scatlink sean
"Purists"= The fuckers who think that Super is the greatest thing ever and every other Metroid is dogshit.
Mathew Soltan
I really don't want to be that guy, but you have an unclosed set of parentheses. Also, why do you think Super is the best Metroid game?

(it would've been better if it was on the Switch though)
And before many people say yeah it’s made by the same person I know but Johnny’s intro just sounds so ear pleasing as if it was in sonic mania it just fits so well for his channel
"Give me the Hyper Beam"- Johnny 2017
The biggest problem with this game was it was a 3DS title after the Switch had come out. This should have had a port made for the Switch not at release but later down the road. Something tells me if they put this on the Switch it would have sold much better. Hopefully Metroid Dread seizes this untapped market well so Metroid isn't a dormant series for another half a decade.
metroid prime 4 got delayed but for a good reason they want the game to be good, and that saying something since how bad the gaming industry is getting
I just prefer the art style of AM2R to returns,
I will always prefer advanced sprites over 3D models, especially on handhelds.
Same. It’s way more detailed, and it fits the franchise better for me.
1:40 Lords of Shadow was kind of fun but it felt a little too stiff.
