I always take a handgun of no less than .44 /10mm caliber and bear spray! Also make lots of noise while hiking, like singing or bells on a walking stick! When I go berry picking I also ring a very loud cowbell in each berry patch I visit! Good video!
There’s a lot of information out these days. Some say you need to stand up and look as big as you can and not run. What this video says is what I’ve heard for years. I get the impression it varies with different types of bears, too. I think the main thing is if you see a cub, move away so you are no threat.
The only thing that I “think” I would have done differently is… when I saw the cub,I would hope that I would have kicked into hyper speed and tried to distance myself from the baby. I know if a bear is after you,running is not good. But I would hope if mama is protecting the baby,if I posed zero threat???? Probably wishful thinking on my part…..
