Whats a better combo? this or a 57 and 421?

Depends on what you want. 421 like the 57, is a dynamic microphone. 57 + 421 gives a very aggressive sound although a little honky due to the 421's more vocal midrange. The M160 will have more low-end since it's a (dual) ribbon mic and also a more vocal midrange compared to something like a R121 or Condenser mic. I suggest checking out a guitar microphone guide to learn the various types and what their characteristics are.

I don't play with real amps because well, life. But on most modelers I lean towards the 160 over the royer 121 on the cab sims and IRs. I feel it's less boomy and plays better with the 57 for my taste than the 121.
