I'd be lying if I said I wasn't hoping for the Vet rework to be something more exciting than what we got. Awesome video regardless, I find your explanations on what you choose and why always helpful.

Yeah, it definitely feels... underwhelming. Hopefully they continue giving the veteran attention, and not just with a nerf bat.
And thank you friend, I'm happy to hear you're enjoying the content!

When I play my other characters their skill trees are so much better laid out than my vet, like you said the super freaking long skill tree just feels bad and bloated as hell. The keystones are okay.. the right side is fun for run and gun, mixed on left and middle though 🤔

For sure, it feels like a completely different team put together the Veteran skill tree compared to the other class trees. Not really sure what happened but it needs some attention.

I would've said the opposite of what you said about the keystones, I can never max out stacks on the left and the amount of times I need to dodge remove the stacks faster than I can build them despite one or two shotting my targets though, there was lots of down time between shots as I prefer my Helbore lasgun. The right seems like a good mix of the hybrid playstyle.
I found that going with a Plasma gun and controlling my tagging was the best way to control the situation while helping the team get plenty of damage and toughness buffs.
I still feel like the Marksman keystone could still be improved, especially with how stacks are built and expended. The other classes have stack builds that function well for their role in the team. Perhaps something that builds with ADS rather than movement.

The worst part about the stacks is that it is only increase crit dmg and reload speed
Which most vet weapons lack a lot of crit chance save for weapons that can get blessing like Surgical or Laz Pistol.
At 15 stacks, you only get a +25% increase in crit dmg. Which is real garbage when most guns do not need that extra dmg to make a break point. So it just end up as overkill dmg.
Works the best on Bosses, but even then it's not great as it only effect base crit dmg and adds no other modifiers.
All of this for 4 heads or if you have camo about 2-3sec. Is absurd.
The worst part I'd how big the vet tree is point allocation variety is the worst when compared to the other classes.
Especially if you want the full keystone value.
The ping from the center tree is by far the best keystone and it is not even really a question.
Free dmg on the ping of any special, elite, or Boss?
Obviously this contradicts from the crit dmg is saying overkill dmg.
However the ping is 100% reliable and can be chosen by the player at will.
While marksman for whatever fcki g reason decided to go with crit dmg over weakspot dmg.
The people complaing about vet being too strong before are the same people that never took any autoguna with him on higher than Malice.
Now most Auto-guns are too ammo hungry.
So now the only weapons you will see do well on anything higher than Malice are
      Bolter,
      Plasma Gun,
      Revovler,
      Helobore LazGuns,
      Possibly the law pistol.
And one of the headhunter autoguns.
      And that's it.
Most recon and kantrell lazy guns take too much ammo or lack versatility in Aruic or Dambation.
Ammo is a huge problem for Vet more so than any other class.
If the ammo economy was re-balancd for vet so all weapons can have some form of viability that would be cool.
But right now they did exactly what they wanted to avoid with their beta version of the vet Keystones and make it to where you pair ul with only certain guns.
And now you are baidlcy forced to do that, but now only with far less reward as the keystones are not tied to weapons and so only provide a d basic level of support for all.
Making them almost useless. Especially the CQC melee/gun vet hybrid keystone.
The melee on provides for 10 shots, and shots provide only 1 melee making it neigh un-usable.
Stacked with all the smaller +5 Ranged dmg, +5% reload etc nodes being removed.
Vet feels nearly the worst he has ever been.
The fact I can run melee vet fully and do better than if I had gun, feels like a joke of a tree re-work.
The only thing keeping vet from being trash is that dammed shout, toughness survivability, and that ping keystone.
Other than that it is really hard not to make any vet build that works and does well on anything higher than Malice.
You either full spec into marksman and pop only head, leaving you very vulnerable to Crusher hordes.
Or you spec into the shouty build and only use bolter, plasma, and shout.
If tried the CQC vet but while it does work you lack a but of range and smoke really need a buff either providing stealth while inside or buffing the ability to block incoming Ranged dmg.
Bdcuase for the life of me only really seeing kt block gunners and reapers.
All other Ranged units seem to not really care about the smoke.eapcailly if it appears as a one way smoke. Rendering the entire name useless.
Shouty vet is the only reliable vet on Damnation and Auric missions.
Marksman and CQC vet are 2nd.
CQC I'd arguable better as you dont need as much ammo (more ammo for team), you have dmg in close quarters for elites and specials. And smoke to support the team.
While marksman vet is stuck for a sour 5 or 6 stake bleed nade (which is garbage as bleed has no real synergy with vet other than flanking all the way down the tree to get +1 bleed for melee hits.
And now has to pick between specials and organs to be tagged in volley fire.
Furthermore has no rending or armor dmg so is only able to deal with Ranged threat which arguable any other class can do equally as good of a job now.
      Zel with gun or knives,
      Orgyn with gun or grenades
And Psyker with Brain burst, Assail, Fire, Shock, or even Force Staff.
Vet is by far the worst class in the game now, and it's not really even close. (In terms of Marksman, or CQC).
Shouty vet is by far the strongest class in the game and it's not even close.
Being able to add +100 toughness over max and increae regen for allies Is so massive for harder missions.
Overheal in games is by far the most powerful mechanic.
It why Medic in TF2 has the Overheal decay if he is not actively healing a patient.
Becuase you can take free hits untill the timer ends or toughness expires.
Iv won countless games without taking any massive HP damg, almost non at all thanks to the vet shout.
Paired with free revives to teammates while in combat is massive as well.
Vet shout is so dare I say broken that he is arguably stronger than he ha ever been. Just that he us not nearly as versatile.

I'm excited to explore the keystones more, I want to iron out a new plasma gun build next so I'll give that one a try!
The marksman keystone definitely feels best with high ROF or high accuracy guns. The stacks don't decay for 3 seconds on weakspot kills or 1 second on weakspot hits, so as long as you are consistently hitting weakspots the stacks don't really decay as you move around the battlefield. And the Camouflage talent builds stacks pretty fast to counterbalance the cost of dodging. It could probably use some tweaks (and I like the idea of ADS stacking) but it feels pretty decent atm to me.

lol, watched how the dude was literally carried by others during the mission and yapping, "nah, the veteran is still good and satisfying to play". But forgetting to mention "as long as you hide in a hidey-hole and let the others do the job done.

I include the scoreboard at the end where the build topped all the elite and special kills and tied for top damage. If you consider that bad and being carried I'm not sure what to tell you.

Veteran class is suffering the same bloat problem the 40k game is suffering from.

No crossover? Have you seen the zealot tree?

    • @vgameface

From the last cross point, it takes 4 points to get to a Zealot keystone versus 8-9 points to get to a Veteran keystone. Not even comparable.

I was expecting skills that enhance Vet survivality like going full berserker but no, we can't have that do we?

Fatshark seems to want to take the Vet in the opposite direction, because that's more or less where we were before the class overhaul. I guess we'll see where the class ends up.

hot take: fatshark should make a bublic test build of the game for players to give feedback about new upcoming changes
