    Honestly trying out someone else's suppressor is a good way to figure out what you want. I shot my dad's on a bunch of different stuff and felt like rifle and sub gun suppression was the most worthwhile because it made the biggest difference. This video is spot on. Love your content Rob keep it up!

    Griffin Armament makes a QD adapter for pistols that works with their pistons for several suppressor brands. I find it especially convenient with my Ospreys because they index so easily.
    I performed the "ultimate we test" metered by AreveloSocom of NFATalk a few years ago. We put pretty much anything you can imagine in a Griffin Revolution 9K on a G4 Glock 17 with Silencerco threaded barrel. Sodas, oils, Greases, bubbles, bacon grease, Jack Daniels, vape juices, shaving cream, and more. Even bought "silencer juice" and "DB foam". The takeaway: anything water based works best. Currently working on a "secret sauce" formula to be quieter and last longer but for now a nasal spray bottle with tap water is what I use to shoot wet.
    ETA: the suppressor was cleaned between tests. The Glock was not. The inside looked like black mud. It was a testament to Glock reliability... I'm still a P365 / XDM guy.

    I got a Hybrid 46 for my first suppressor so I can throw it on my rifle, my pistol, and my PCC. Surprisingly, with how heavy it is, my pistol just barely runs with it. I have an aftermarket recoil spring assembly with 3 different springs and I have the heaviest spring on there, I think it will work just fine with a weaker spring though (could be 100% wrong tho).

    I say get the 9mm can because it's going to be that much smaller. I do love my Fly 9 and 45 pistol cans though, I put my Fly 45 in short config. On both my 45-70 where I load 500 gr subs and my FNX 45 tactic for fun. The Fly 9 goes on my P80 in short mode and I carry it around often in my semi and also goes on the 9mm Banshee for fun. I see a lot of utility in a short light and somewhat quiet pistol can.

    > The tilting barrel is one of many recoil operated systems available for pistols, but it's the most common. Others can be better suited for suppression.
    > The reason pistols usually need a Nielsen device or a muzzle booster is because the weight of the suppressor interferes with the energy needed to cycle the slide. Suppressors that are light enough don't need this booster.
    > The 3 lug muzzle mount is something that came from HK and by its nature has nothing to do with handguns. Just as rifles don't need a Nielsen device, pistol caliber carbines usually don't either. PCCs are often direct blowback though, so a suppressor can make the recoil even worse.
    Otherwise, good tips and insight. It seems like the only pistol suppressors worth getting are either for .22lr guns, or 9mm subguns and PCCs.

    Also holsters are now making the sidecar as a small suppressor holster for a small baffle stack can. If you couple that with the Griffin cam or ez (I like ez as I’ve had less loosening though a 33% longer thread time), it’s a pretty sweet combo. Match it with their thread protector that’s a micro comp (does nothing from what I can tell but bc taper interface is easy to get off fast vs threads) and I think it could be a viable option.

    • @demandprecision5810
      @demandprecision5810 3 месяца назад

      Griffin's taper mount is probably the most universally compatible mount system out there. It has some down-sides, but being able to run every can I have on all of my platforms was what sold me. I can take my 9mm can and run it on a Glock and turn around and QD it onto a AR in a matter of minutes. To Rob's point, suppressing rifles is far more practical than handguns (.22 LR being the exception). Being able to shoot dirty sub-sonic .308 lead rounds through my serviceable Octane or high power 168 through my Explorr with the same mount is awesome.

  • @Hondatech26

    Thanks for this, you'll save the people who are willing to listen to your advice a lot of time and money. I started with a 9mm can because like most first time suppressor buyers I was looking for something that I could use on multiple hosts. Now it's just my dedicated tri-lug can because I'm far enough down the rabbit hole that I'm dedicating suppressors to specific guns. Idk if you read your vid comments, but if you do, what's your stance on shooting 5.56 out of 30 cal suppressors vs dedicated 5.56 cans? I tend to prefer 30 cal cans on my DI ar15's because they generate less back-pressure/gas to the face and noise reduction is still perfectly acceptable.

    Some good thoughts from Rob. I also don’t use a can on pistols much. Fun at the range is about it.
    A couple notes on Nielsen devices may need some clarification. They don’t add back pressure, they allow the barrel to move by using the spring inside to delay the weight transfer. Also, you mentioned blowback pistols but showed pistols with delayed unlocking(Beretta), not the same. Unless you’re suppressing a Hi Point, .22, Cheetah, etc…which are blowback.

    I think with the whole NFA/tax stamp/wait time that it's a waste of time to get a 9mm can, when there is no modularity. At least I have the option whether or not if I choose to, to have the ability to suppress many different caliber of pistols/rifles.

    "Defensive situations"? You mean, at the range? In the field, 45 caliber pistols make a lot of sense. No one is hunting deer anymore with 357s much less 9mm. And, field shooting is where traditional hearing protection is a real detriment to your results. A silencer is a lot of money just to avoid foam rubber at tact tard day. I Form 1ed a 45ACP/Auto Rim, 16 inch integral silencer on a T/C Contender barrel. It is a long pistol when that is what Fish and Game allows me to carry, and a very light carbine with a collapsible AR stock otherwise. Being single shot there is no blowback, nor action function issues. I run a red dot because I can see it in either configuration so no re-sighting. It is fun, powerful, practical, was inexpensive, and is a joy to carry afield. It is the only pistol caliber carbine I own, and I had a pile of them before I realized what a waste of money they are. My thoughts on suppressors running into the hundreds and thousands of dollars are un-christian to say the least.

    PISTOL suppressors are for:
    1) Fun
    2) Movie Bad Guys
    3) Cool Points/Status Symbols
    There is no practical application for running a silencer on a centerfire pistol, other than making movies and selling silencers.
    And there's nothing wrong with #1 or #3. Everything doesn't have to have a practical purpose. Prioritize based on your budget and realistic "needs" first. A good rimfire suppressor is loads of fun on a 22 pistol. It's cheap to feed and practice with. No pistons required for rimfire pistols either. And they are light and not too bulky to carry around. Much more practical for those reasons than a suppressed 9mm pistol.

      Pistol suppressors are for making the gun quieter. Anything after that is 'just like your opinion man' to qoute TBL.

    Seems kind of contradictory. If you’re recommending people only get PCC suppressors, why not get one that's also rated for rifle calibers? I’m running that on an MP5 and it’s awesome.

      @Sageofthe16 3 месяца назад

      aren't mp5s 9mm? (edit noted)
      is the rugged alaskan any good for 338? i have been eyeballing that one.

      @Frient 3 месяца назад

      @@Sageofthe16 I guess I was conflating caliber with a specific cartridge. The can I'm talking about is a rugged alaskan and it's .36 cal.

      @Frient i think the point was something like ' 9mm pistols aren't ideal hosts, but 9mm pccs are, so let that nugget of info sway your choice' he basically says 'sure youll try it on a handgun, but you will love it on a pcc. or sbr.

    No one is conceal carrying a suppressed pistol. But outside the waistband have holster's that can take suppressors and could be beneficial depending on the situation. Also, no red dot on a pistol is some fudd attitude lol

      @@dangerlos this is positive feedback. Tell me what they’re doing differently that you wish was happening on our channel? If you’re talking about individual silencer reviews, we haven’t started doing that yet. That is where we would go into detail about the types of metals weights, and otherwise. We do intend to do that eventually. Right now we’re enjoying doing head to head testing. Please tell me more.I know it’s sometimes hard to text but I’m not offended and I am intrigued.

    All my doomsday, apocalyptic, EMP burst guns aren’t red dot compatible. Red dots will get fried so no point having a big optic that doesn’t work.
