  • The WORST part of swapping these cars, comes now. Taking a crashed 997 fully apart to build a complete, non crashed, custom 911 Turbo. But will it ever run again?

Wow! Personally, I would have elected for the frame repair on the gray car. Having rebuilt two auctioned Boxster’s, I know how much work was going to go into the body swap. My stress levels are through the roof watching this! I really can’t imagine how the hell you’re going to get this together and know I couldn’t. Also, your editing is among the best and the work involved in that as well as filming is beyond next level.

One of the best things you can do when frustrated is take a 10-20 minute break. Studies have shown that your subconscious mind will continue to think about what you were working on, and often produce an answer or idea in that 10-20 minute period.

Cannot believe the foam in the vents came out intact. That's amazingly rare. Almost all of these cars have an issue where the foam decomposes and blows out the vents at some point. It must have been kept in a climate controlled environment.

    Hi Mat,
As soon as you announced you were doing a body swap on your 997 Turbo, I thought that's a huge task to undertake!
Whilst I could probably do the mechanical component of the swap, I knew that the electrical wiring loom would be a major challenge.
This latest video shows me just how complicated & time consuming this aspect of the swap is & huge respect to you for undertaking this on your own. 👍👍👍
I'm sure your methodical approach, with lots of labelling & photos/videos, will see you through to a successful conclusion!
Keep up the great work & looking forward to the next episode!

Don't give up the ship Matt. As for the Interior, aren't you glad you cleaned all that interior up before removal? How depressing it would be working in all that dirt and grime. A very good suggestion is arrange for one of those POD's to be delivered to your house to store all the parts. It's worth the time and $$$ for your sanity. Never say die.

Dude, I am so glad I found this channel. I'm looking at buying a 996 for a daily. The big factor was the maintenance, which I was kind of hesitant about since everything I find online is things like a $700 dvd/book about rebuilding the motors. So I feel like I'm having a little trouble finding reasonable resources. Do you have any recommendations?

The AC evaporator went bad. It had a leak and the Freon was escaping .To replace it the dash has to come out because it’s behind it. He also cleaned out the air ducts that were spitting little foam pieces. Both my 996 and 997tt did the same thing. Fixed now.

Nothing can prepare you for this kind of work Matt. I really admire your willingness to approach this as I know that even Porsche specialists would want to avoid this sort of work.....at all cost! Well done mate, I hope you`re rewarded with a fantastic car at the end of this mammoth project.

That interior + the wiring is going to be a mountain of work to fully transplant. Good on you for taking on this project
