5:54 The reason the defensive lineman is taunting the quarterback is because the QB is taking out the lineman's knees (from out of his field of vision). That's a dirty block. The QB could have wrecked that guy's career.

5:24 - The ball has to break the plane of the end zone while you have control of it for it to be a touchdown.

So, in High school, I played Left Guard on Offense and Middle Linebacker on Defense, but on the rarest of occasions I would line up at the Tight End position when the starter was out or needed a break. During a play where I was at the Tight End position, I went on a simple five and in pattern across the middle. I.E. I went forwards five yards than cut a turn towards the center of the field. While the pass never went my way, one of the other teams players took an opportunity to run as fast and as hard as they could through the side of my face mask, giving me a whiplash concussion, *my head was whipped side to side with such force it was like getting punched by a heavyweight prize fighter.* I wasn't knocked out, but I still recall watching my mouthpiece spin slowly through the air as I wobbled on rubber legs for a bit, sat out for a couple of series on both sides of the ball than went back in later, and finished up the game. The moral of the story is that yes, it was a little bit of a cheep shot on the other guys part, but it's also on me to have been more aware of my surroundings combined with a big dash of *Rub some dirt on it and get back in there.* nature of the game, if you go across the middle, your going to get hit, that's just how it is.

Between 7 years of youth/high school football, the worst hits I took were:
    1. being upended and landing helmet-first. Knocked out cold, needed smelling salts
    2. I once got crushed by a legal blindside block on a punt return, talk about getting the wind knocked out of you.

At 5:49, the reason #99 seems to be taunting is because of where the Dolphins player hit him on the block- his knees. His career could have been seriously impacted. Does it make his taunting ok? Not in the slightest, but it does explain why he did it.

Played football for 12 years roughly 17 seasons from youth to arena football all the way through high school. My career ended with 2nd ACL tear, but I had my good share of concussions (7) throughout as a wide receiver my most recent and worst one was freshman year of high school was on kickoff return and a 6 ft 2 (me 5 ft 7) came clean unblocked and launched me 5-10 yards back and knocked me unconscious for about 5 minutes.

So some of these hits are just a lil bit older. But im a very firm believer that there should be a rule change! If a player gets knocked unconscious, it should not be a live ball, you should not be able to recover, the play should be blown dead. The person getting knocked out has no chance of recovering the ball. LETS GO # RULE CHANGE!!! LMAO

Try these hits with no padding or helmets.... Highschool yard football ...
I remember one guy he was the back up QB and we rolled him out.... Tackled and rolled over top... He ended up having major concussion from smacking his head against the ground and splitting it open.... Our WR got a back injury and was out out for good.... I mean we played mean and full out no pads... I always thought this shit was normal... And I'm Canadian haha

I love the NFL, how about we show some love to Rugby? Talk about hits. It’s like backyard football when we were kids. No pads. No helmets. Just pure speed and strength. Well, speed and strength is a basic skill for football and strategy. Then again, strategy is for all sports. Anyway, can we see some rugby too? Also, taunting in football, is now against the rules in the NFL.

"How long are these guy's careers?" - Well... there's peewee football starting at age 9. Then moving into Junior High School and High School Football until 18ish years old, then 3ish years of College. Then.... then... if they're very "lucky" and are good enough and have not sustained any career ending injuries, they can be drafted to play Pro. The average career is 3.3 years, but that skyrockets up to 11.7 years if they make a pro bowl at any point during their career.

An interesting fact: In 1905 President Theodore Roosevelt invited several college football coaches to the White House and told them that if they didn't clean up the sport, he would ban it. You see too many football players were getting crippled, disfigured or even killed. They had no protective gear at all. The players were vicious with fighting; gouging out eyes; biting, also no one wanted to referee.

  • @DougRayPhillips
    @DougRayPhillips 2 года назад

Those helmet-to-helmet hits were not specifically illegal when most of this footage was shot, although the officials could call "unnecessary roughness" if they thought it was deliberate. But now they're specifically illegal even if inadvertent. You also can't lead with your helmet into any part of the opponent's body. And if you're sacking the quarterback, you can't fall on him with your whole weight.
A long long time ago (like 100 years), yes, to score a touchdown you had to get into the end zone with the ball and then literally touch it to the ground. Things have been made much easier since then. All you have to do is momentarily break the plane of the goal line with any part of the ball while you have control of it. Or even touch the ball to one of those blaze-orange foam pylons sticking up from the front corners of the end zone.

Context to why #99 was taunting the QB is because the QB was attempting a cut block when the DL wasn't looking and it was right to his knee. This is a very dangerous play that has been made illegal. Guys get their knees all tore up, especially when their cleats are still in the ground.

To give you an idea of how hard they hit each other, the linemen who weigh between 270-350 pound hit each other with the same force as driving a pickup truck into a brick wall at 35 MPH and they are only 2 feet away from each other when before hitting each other do this over a thousand times a season. Now imagine how hard the other players who weigh between 170-240 pounds running down the field full speed and hitting each other.

Theis is why they pay WR's what they do. There are 2 types of defensive backs that play the game. Assassins and thieves. (Ed Reed was both which made him incredible) Assassins are focused on planting his shoulder in the upper part of the rib cage just under the arm pit. Chances are the WR won't extend his arms for the rest of the game. Thieves know how to position themselves to steal the ball while the Assassin destroys the receiver. There is strategy in the game. A lot of it is how to put your people in the best spots so this doesn't happen to them. Your really don't want to test how much pain your players can eat each week. Save that for the playoffs.

No one dies and these guys play this game for years, they are big and strong and though you see them laying still sometimes they all get up, there are some injuries some head problems but its rare and they come back in the next game, but now you can not hit with your helmet above the shoulder, taunt a player or hit them out side the side lines. As long as the ball crosses the line then its a touch even if the player does not.

Helmet to helmet contact is not a foul. It is if you target your opponent with the crown of the helmet. That means a contact primarily with the crown, lauching into opponent.

I have been knocked out cold in a game being hit by a 250 lb lineman. They put me back into the game when I woke up and asked to keep playing 😂

They’re called hospital balls. When the QB leads the receiver into a brutal hit.

I was a center in high school and a helmet to helmet is brutal u see a white flash and then a buzzing and as the buzzing slowly goes away a headache comes right along. I had three concussions so I decided not to go the college route.
