Watching a video like this makes American football seem like it's just simply barbaric and entertaining. In reality it's one of the most strategic games in the world. Obviously physicality comes into play, (most of these guys are like 6'5" 250 LBS), but the game is so much more than that. Edit: The reason it's called "football" is because the ball is one foot long.
I looked up the etymology of football and it didn’t mention that. It could be true tho, I’ve never measured it. Football originally meant any sport that was played _on foot_ (usually by peasants) as opposed to on horseback. The American use came from 1867 when the US College circuit shifted from association football rules to rugby rules. Harvard was the main advocate for switching to rugby rules, but compromised on the name by sticking with “football”.
I was gonna say this. The strategies on offense and defense are insane when u look at it on an individual level, just listen to a QB mic’d up calling plays it’s crazy
@@scottydu81 This is correct. It's why there are many games out there called football. It's just that World Football, or association football, is the most popular of the term football with Rugby coming second.
2:17 Sean Taylor #21, hardest hitting safety to ever play the game. He unfortunately passed away at a very young age after being shot in his Florida home. RIP to the GOAT
We’ve seen it. NFL players hit just a bit harder than a rugby player, but they average a game time of 1.3 minutes played over 3 hours.. Rugby players hit just as hard at the beginning, but rugby has no pads and is constant carnage for 80 mins. There’s no stoppage after a tackle. You just get back up and hit them back harder. So the average lowers when they’re tired and tackling softer at the end of the match. For 1.3 mins of game time, both sports hit equally. So considering a rugby player hits just as hard but plays 74 minutes average out of 80.. no contest. Rugbys just levels above.

Most people get mad after a lot of these hits because it’s targeting, where you hit the other player in the helmet with your helmet, which can cause a concussion very easily. It’s illegal and a player typically gets ejected from the game instantly.

Also the “protective gear” is actually what makes it the most unsafe because it gives false confidence that you will be protected on big hits like that. You could always do flag or no pad football you think twice before you hit that hard
No pad American football would be infinitely less Safe then no pad football. Your right to an extent that it gives yoh a false sense of security but the pads, esspially in modern times, way outway that and give you so much more protection.
@@AOD00000 You could argue that playing without pads would lead to there being new techniques for tackling people without injuring yourself, i.e. like Rugby.
2:06 Precisely Vik, growing up us Americans always clowned soccer as the “pussy football” for flopping at the most minuscule contact because this kind of contact is what we’re used to. But I will say, I have since grown an appreciation for soccer and it’s become one of my favorite sports to play
Agreed. I'm a massive American football fan and that'll likely always be my favorite sport but really since finding these guys like a decade ago I've absolutely fallen in love with soccer. @@timlett99 exactly, the whole argument over which is the “better football” is very childish. They are both great sports that can be appreciated by all. It requires world class speed, quickness, endurance, and physical strength, but also the mental capacity to deeply understand the strategic aspect. You're right Tobi. You're watching the greatest safety to ever play the sport. His name is Sean Taylor 🙏🙏🙏
We need a sidemen football match like this, be very funny😅
I played American football in college for 4 years, I’m 26 now and my body feels like it’s 50. These hits and impacts definitely take a toll
what position u play
I was a tight end at Arkansas State
@@JackyKongD i played wide reciever for 1-2 years in middle school

Video idea: Sidemen React to biggest NHL or ice hockey hits
Hockey is so similar to soccer. They need to react to everything that hockey has to offer. Hits, fights, dangles(skill moves/jukes). The game of hockey players so similar to soccer, its basically soccer , and football on ice.
You guys need to watch the NHL version of this. Love to throw massive hits in hockey
Yes!
NHL hits are brutal but they are very satisfying to watch
@@scottydu81 I did not see the read more thing
@@theunovanative7640 I apologize for being rude. Should have thought more before I hit send.
I think this would be so much better if the Sidemen watched an NFL Sports Science video about just how hard these NFL players hit people
YO ☠️ ruclips.net/video/GbKo94d108s/видео.html

I’m sure a lot of long time players of this sport like myself can agree that you get pretty comfortable with the level of contact on the field, if you keep your head on a swivel and go full speed into every hit, you usually won’t feel much of your pain until after the game.
“21’s a dangerous number, remember that” Sean Taylor, RIP the goat
now you understand why we, as americans, love hockey and american football so much. it's so violent and the violence is celebrated lmao it's so entertaining.

You should react to one in a million NFL plays! There is some incredible footage out there to react to. Great job on the vid!
They prolly wont understand some tho
4:55 In the States we say "Basketball is a contact sport. Football is a collision sport."
This sport is not just grown men running through each other. It’s probably the most strategic sport, there is so much more to the game than getting a big tackle in. Although it is an amazing feeling.
as an Australian would love to see sidemen reacts to NRL or AFL biggest hits
Amen, these sooks have pads, get a few big hits from NRL, off its tits
still waiting on an AFL reaction :/

you guys should do NHL/Ice hockey after this. super entertaining, physical game on ice with just as many big hits
If you truly want to find the hardest hits you need to find a clip from the 70’s
Most people get mad after a lot of these hits because it’s targeting, where you hit the other player in the helmet with your helmet, which can cause a concussion very easily. It’s illegal and a player typically gets ejected from the game instantly.
I was expecting way more Ray Lewis hits, some of his were just iconic.

Also the “protective gear” is actually what makes it the most unsafe because it gives false confidence that you will be protected on big hits like that. You could always do flag or no pad football you think twice before you hit that hard
@*Quacks away your freedom* yeah pretty much
No pad American football would be infinitely less Safe then no pad football. Your right to an extent that it gives yoh a false sense of security but the pads, esspially in modern times, way outway that and give you so much more protection.
@@mitchellima4736 agreed. If Polamalu or Taylor back int he day hit a human being without gear, they would be oblitirated to a million pieces.
@@AOD00000 You could argue that playing without pads would lead to there being new techniques for tackling people without injuring yourself, i.e. like Rugby.
@@__vx3 maybe, but the americans prolly want to do as much damage to other people as possible. Example is Ndamukong Suh or Vontaze Burfict
Bro as an American this shit is so funny especially Tobi's reaction to every hit and most NFL fans are getting hyped after these 😂
The fact that Tobi just said “ EEE” every time got my laughing 😂
2:06 Precisely Vik, growing up us Americans always clowned soccer as the “pussy football” for flopping at the most minuscule contact because this kind of contact is what we’re used to. In American football, men get fully drilled and still get up to join the huddle for the next play. But I will say, I have since grown an appreciation for soccer and it’s become one of my favorite sports to play
Agreed. I'm a massive American football fan and that'll likely always be my favorite sport but really since finding these guys like a decade ago I've absolutely fallen in love with soccer. It kinda sucks that theres this whole argument between the two sides like "oh this is the real football" and "well you guys flop like a bunch of babies" and all that because both games are truly amazing.
Rugby is bigger than American football boss they don't wear all the gear
@@Alexxxxx18 yeah no protection like American footballers
@@karabonyathi5653 huh
@@timlett99 exactly, the whole argument over which is the “better football” is very childish. They are both great sports that can be appreciated by all. Just cause they share a common name doesn’t mean they need to be compared under a microscope. American football will probably always be my favorite sport to watch, while soccer is currently my favorite to play

And fhese type of hits don’t happen evry game
@@yahyabashir1980 kya
No, that's not the reason. The reason why it's called football is because it's one of the many variations that came from mob football. Rugby football, gridiron football (American football), association football (soccer), etc. all came from mob football.
@@yahyabashir1980 yea u rarely see these hits because the player would be ejected most likely

Sideman nfl charity match is would be epic
Despite what it may look like, football is an extremely deeply technical, strategic game. It requires world class speed, quickness, endurance, and physical strength, but also the mental capacity to deeply understand the strategic aspect. And the strategic portion occurs in real time, at insane speeds. Not to even mention the immense skill required. It's not just running into people at high speeds and wrecking their bodies.
There’s just something about watching non Americans reacting to American football that is just so entertaining
