    Giorno had a team to help that put their trust in him, while Diavolo was overconfident in his own broken abilities and thought he had already won the battle. The duality of Giorno and Diovolo's life decisions as a whole, made the world of a difference in their fight.

      @@vitroviokusprianto1327 and yet Abbachio solved the mystery of soft machine on giorno's orders, gave giorno permission to keep investigating fugo's disappearance during man in the mirror while he himself went to get the key, gave giorno the key in when illuso started kicking his ass and fully expected him to pick up on the meaning and run away (he didn't run in the end but not like abbachio could predict that), had 0 complaints when giorno started smashing cars to hide from the hitman team (he basically said "fuck it"), and left his dying message by picking out a chip of broken stone from the pedestal and holding it (meaning that he likely did that expecting giorno to use his powers to send the hard back to the source, though one could conceive he might have just wanted them to search around for it like idiots until they randomly stumble onto the source but that seems unlikely).
      Honestly, he mostly only insulted him, preferring to let him do his own thing most of the time since giorno was good at completing the mission, only refusing him twice (at the start of soft machine when he didn't know him well yet and at the start of the king crimson arc since he figured there would be no danger and that bruno should do it cuz capo). Yeah he had his suspicions about Giorno's true goals before they betrayed the gang and hated the kid, but when it came to fulfilling a mission he was clearly ok with letting giorno do his job. You can trust people you hate, as well as give different kinds of trust for different situations.

    Looking at the duality of Giorno and Diavolo, one thing immediately caught my eye: their stand designs.
    The very first time I saw Gold Experience, I thought it was similar to a jester, with the slim build and how the lines ran across its face and body. And King Crismon’s design in obviously one of royalty, but it actual doesn’t have a crown on its head, sorta like a “false king”. Then when Giorno got the arrow and his stand was reborn, GER’s design seemed a little more shredded (especially in the anime), and had an actual crest or crown on its head, signifying Giorno’s ascension over Diavolo

    2:25- Which is ironically a trope usually associated with shonen or any kind of hero in the hero's journey, refusing the call until the call finds you and forces you to react. It was initially strange that Kamina/Bulat's voice actor was Diavolo since the man usually plays heroic characters. However, being reactionary is generally a standard heroic trope with the proactive being very rare. Giorno who had previously played a hero turned villain in Yugioh Arc and the son of Jojo's most infamous villain, is more self-initiative and willing to take risks. If Giorno was like his dad and Diavolo less paranoid, the roles would be reversed and Diavolo would be the Big Good to Giorno's arising Big Bad.

    • @TheDarkAngel969
      @TheDarkAngel969 4 года назад +12

      That makes me wonder, how would the part have been handled if Giorno was like the rest of Dio's sons from Part 6? Like, just as with them, Girono would have an imbalance with his personality. For example, the imbalance giving him more of Jonathon's personality over Dio's, or while he still saves the mafia member, his personality leaned more toward a Dio-esque personality

    • @LuckiSir
      @LuckiSir 4 года назад +9

      I’d imagine that Giorno would’ve been more like Diavolo, trusting in his power & intellect alone. Though with that much strength he’d probably gain the downsides, that being more panicky when things go wrong.
      Which would eventually, somehow, lead him to defeat by Jolyne & co.

    If you know the personality of the heroes and villains, you'll see they kind of have their own duality.
    Jonathan/Dio: Jonathan is a classy gentleman with a pure heart/Dio is a monster with no regard for honor or rules.
    Johnny/Valentine: Johnny's goal is selfish/Valentine's is heroic.

Diavolo on the other is like a one trick pony with only one strategy: activate King Crimson, blind his enemies if he needs or wants, put himself in position and inmediately strike. Of course that's not all he does but it's what he will always go for at first

    2:08- If he knew Trish was the only thing that could sense he could've taken Trish, raised her to be his heir/replacement Don in the case that he eventually dies, since she would've likely been willing to obey her dad if he opened up to her since she was initially scared at first, if he were playing it smart, dispatching Bruno who planned to send her away. Thus, keeping the only thing from tracking him and making sure he remained anonymous and nigh-god like as he has a successor who'd deal with things in his footsteps. This would a step of progression, but instead he did what he usually does to those close to him- abandon them at best and murder them at worst because it's too much trouble.

    I think within the group dynamic, I see the contrast of Mista and Giorno constantly working together to work because it’s like Giorno gets mista to step back and think while on the other hand Mista spurs Giorno to take action and to just do, not think too hard. Like when they fought Ghiaccio and solved how Greateful Dead worked. Also it kind seemed like Mista was the first to warm up to Giorno and take his ideas seriously.

    I feel like it's also worth noting how Diavolo makes a really big deal during his fight with Polnareff of how he's "defeated his weaker self from the past" when he blinds the latter with his blood. Despite what he claims, what he's saying couldn't be farther from the truth, since as you point out very explicitly in this video, Diavolo is at his core a cowardly, scared individual who isn't willing to take the risk of actually learning from his past and mistakes. Giorno, meanwhile, doesn't ever have to *state* that he's defeated his weaker self from the past; he just does it. Keep up the good work, Kaleb!

    Two sides of the same coin honestly. Another thing that I like to think is that Giorno is the child of destiny. Being the spawn of Dio and Jonathan, the two that started the legendary family that has carried on till today. I'm saying that even in a family of heroes he stands out with the strongest stand and the most resilient blood. He was born to be great. To achieve whatever he so desired. This is as opposed to diavolo who refers to fate a lot (likely because of his stand) and decides he is and will always stay at the high point of his life. However like you touched on, almost the whole series(or as soon as giorno gets involved) he's on the decline and Giorno is the one to rise to his peak (requiem) form by the end... or something like that, this was just a random collection of thoughts so if anyone has any questions or counter points I'd be happy to discuss

    This video made me realize how well Diavolo and Giorno's stand abilities reflect their different characters. Diavolo represents a person who runs away from their problems, so he has the ability to erase any events that he doesn't want to experience. Meanwhile, Giorno represents someone who learns from their mistakes to grow as a person, and his stand ability is literally making things "grow". Crazy stuff.

    Duality ain't everything at all. It's human logic which brings duality to things, it's a way for us to understand things. Like life and death, beginning and end...Those things doesn't properly exists, we just admit they do.
    What i mean by that is that a duality between two imperfect being such as Giorno and Diavolo is even more interesting as it is perfectly human cause they have two opposite way of seing things.

    "it it looks like it worked, that's good enough for him."
    you can see this in king crimson and epitaph, as he can see the end but not what happened in between. He doesn't know what happened but if it looks like it worked out then he'll go through with it. Also his time erasure very obviously is an analogy of him try to erase his past, but also represents how he skips his experiences and doesn't learn from them (as he doesn't know what happened the the erased time) which leads to his downfall. And its ironic how he can only erase the future while trying to erase his past.

    1:52- It's through our mistakes, we learn to become wiser. The opposite of this is destroying the physical traits of the mistakes in the belief that it's like cleaning a stain, making the room as spotless when it was before- but doing so recklessly, makes an even larger mess. Rather than dealing with it more adaptively, by sending a secret assassin- maybe the ones he could've treated much better financially and respectfully instead of ostracizing them by killing their colleagues- to kill her and be done with it like a proper Don if he were taking his new life seriously.
    Instead, Diavolo used the deception of his old days when he was a young man, luring his victims into a false sense of security to kill them and wipe out the evidence- like he did with his foster father and mother, which backfired because the person he was manipulating into delivering Trish so he kill her himself like he did with his previous victims, had more moral standards than the assassins that would've done the job with no complaints- it's the same as his young adulthood, but since his paranoia grew and he has a larger organization, he's a bit more methodical about it than if he remained alone and been a serial killer like Yoshikage- though at the same time, not fully matured.

    Every protagonist and antagonist have a great duality, whether it’s obvious or not.
    Here’s some examples:
    Jonathan’s fiery passion (and hamon) and Dio’s icy calculated plans (and literal ice)
    Josuke restores, Kira destroys
    Johnny can be seen as a villain, whereas Valentine could be seen as a hero.
