- According to a report by DigitalBits and then confirmed by Variety, Disney has entered a new partnership with Sony for distribution of all Disney physical media going forward. This means that Sony, not Disney, will oversee all future Disney DVDs, Blu-rays, and 4K UHD discs. While not stated yet, this could also include previous titles that could be released in a new format. This is a big deal for physical media collectors and could be a good thing for both companies.
What do you think of this new partnership between Sony and Disney? Do you still collect physical media? Whatever your thoughts, sound off down in the comments!

My sentiments are the same about the partnership. I'm optimistic about Twentieth Century Fox titles being released in 4K or possibly 4k boxsets like Columbia Pictures.
Yeah I know Paramount also has some new slate of stuff coming so the market should be good for collectors for a bit
As they should have partnered with Netflix too. And not piss money down the drain through disney+
You literally mentioned ALL of the movies I’ve been most hoping for haha. National treasure, Narnia, pirates, Tron, Musketeers, treasure planet. I’d pay stupid money for 4K’s of all of these haha.
All of these would look fantastic and fingers crossed for some cool steelbooks or cool cover art!
@@UnchartedMedia Agreed! I lost my mind when I found out Wal Mart is getting an exclusive 4K steelbook of a movie I adored growing up, Cutthroat Island. So I can only hope Sony really is able to take advantage of this new deal!
@@TheTwelfthWizard Yeah I know Walmart is really going all in with their steelbooks and physical media so I'm super excited to see what comes down the pipe from them soon
I like the deal and I am a Physical Media person. Streaming is just a rental system and nothing more in my eyes. I hope they re-release all the movies that are stuck on Disney Movie Club since they cost an arm and a leg to actually purchase now on Amazon/eBay. I also like that you mentioned National Treasure, I love that movie. Hope it does get a 4K release.
I really hope more people catch on to the fact that streaming isn't a permanent solution. You could very well lose the content that's on streaming so home releases are so important
Disney released "Loki Season 1", "WandaVision", "The Mandalorian" Seasons 1 & 2 last year as Limited Edition Steelbook Blu-ray and 4Ks. Were these, the precursors / test drive of that Sony deal?...
I don't believe Sony had any hand in those but I do think it was Disney testing the market to see how well their streaming stuff could perform in physical media sales
Hi hope they put the mandalorian on dvd just blu ray/4K for now@@UnchartedMedia
I mean Sony owns a whole format so that cuts out a huge fee allowing them to produce and sell cheaper.
Exactly! Outsourcing to the experts is always a smart move
Hopefully we get a 4k of tarzan
I would absolutely be cool with that!
"This is a big deal for Disney!"
You sayin' this is a bad thing?
I don't think it's a bad thing.
I never said anything about it being a bad thing, quite the opposite actually
@@UnchartedMedia I've been thinking the same thing!
