Time to switch to medium format? If you've been wondering for a while if medium-format is better than full-frame, this video will give you an idea of what it means to use a larger sensor. And this question is particularly enticing now that medium format is becoming more accessible. Behold the most "affordable" medium format camera on the planet and arguably the universe. I have had the pleasure of trying the Fuji GFX-100s for a week, and I was impressed! In this video, we look at sensor size and why it matters, Fuji colors and film simulations, Fuji GFX 100s menu and settings, video formats, autofocus, connectivity, battery life, ergonomics, and overall use. There are also interior-design pictures and run-and-gun street photography pictures.

When I got my GFX 100s one year ago, I immediately felt familiar with the menu and positions ob buttons/knobs. I sold my complete Canon stuff and will never go back. Just fell in love with FUJI.
I can relate to the falling in love part. FUJI is special. I used to prefer one brand over another. Still, in my case, based on the different gigs, I realized that each job has different needs and that any camera can excel in some areas if you believe in that system and give it a fair shot (I’m guilty of not giving fair shots to systems I don’t prefer, but then I see other people who do great things with it). That said, the GFX 100s is really something to fall in love with and truly special. Congrats on getting the GFX100s, and thanks for leaving this comment. I would love to see some of your pictures! Cheers.
Sounds good Thomas! I used to use a Toyo Omega 4x5 with Schneider and Rodenstock lenses, so can appreciate the advantages of T/S lenses. Have a good day!
this was great, Adriano! Really cool review! Thank you for sharing this info!
Thank you, Hugo! I’m glad you enjoyed it. Now you got me curious about your channel. I’ll take a look! 😊
@@admartino My pleasure! And thank you for the look 😉🍻
2:32 A huge opportunity to learn more about photography and cameras. Thanks for this and hoping to see more of your videos.
Thank you, Chuckwuma! I appreciate your feedback and I’ll strive to make more 😊. If there is anything in particular you’d like to learn about let me know!
I own the 30, 45, 50, 32-64, and 100-200. They are fantastic. Especially the 100-200
Good to know! I’m curious to try a zoom lens on this system.
At least you know which camera is INDEED the KING -
Very helpful video thanks man. Thumbs up.
Thank you, Vasko! I’m glad it helped!
Your interior images after 7:00 are absolutely stunning.
Thank you, Michael. I’m glad you enjoyed them 😁
Ty excellent takes!
Thank you, Justin.
Excellent, Great review.
Thank you, Mad Monki!!
Hai avuto sempre una marcia in più!!! Fantastico Adriano!!!
Grazie mille cara Irma! 😁
Great Review and overview.
Thank you, Jason! I’m glad you enjoyed the video.
Yes. Yes it is. I love my 100s and my 50r
Great video about photography and the camera capabilities
Thank you! More to come!
Thank you for the clear and useful perspective on this camera.
Am I wrong in feeling uncomfortable that you're leaving the sensor exposed so casually? I thought it's best to limit that...
Well…you’re not wrong. In my case, being in studio with no air flowing around and after a few days of air purifier running, I felt okay taking that risk. At most, you’ll get some dust that you can clean up. I know it seems reckless but my whole point of the video was to highlight the sensor so I just went for it 😁
@@admartino Thank you! I've become a bit OCD having lived in Japan for a while.
Great overview. Where did you rent the GFX from? I’d like to rent one and see how I like it. Did you find the 63mm lens the most useful?
Thank you. I usually rent from Lens Rentals. They’re great to work with. I added the links in the description (not affiliate but I will vouch for them any day)
Adriano, great video.. What is the name of that pool hall and where is it located?
Ofcourse there is noise in a bar full of People 😂. Great video, Ive tested gfx100s myself, and it is amazing but Im struggeling with the size. I need something all purpose. Thanks and good luck if you buy one!
Ha! Thank you, Peter. Yeah, this is not what I would call an all-purpose 😅. I got an X-T5 in the meantime to get that Fuji flavor in a pocket format. Much more portable but of course, less latitude.
Nice video very comprehensive . I have the GFX100S with all the lens, you should try the GF110, GF801.7 its killer
Thank you, John. Great suggestion. I’ll try them when I focus more on portraits. This time around, I got the lenses for the interior design pics and then played taking other pictures with them. Great suggestions. These lenses sound outstanding.
Do you find that using the 250mm with the 1.4 converter that sometimes the OIS creates blurry photos when it is supposed to the opposite?
@@nelsonclub7722 I use the 250mm but never did get the TC1.4
@@nelsonclub7722 thank you for your question, Nelson. Is this question for me or John? I haven’t had the chance to try that combination. But I will keep you posted if I ever do!
@@admartino Hi there - it was for John - but I have answered it - the OIS and the IS within the camera must be switched off for slow exposures - its all good though guys - carry on
Thank you for a good Video. I'm upgrading my Nikon F-system to D850 standard before retirement. But I was thinking about to switch to the Fuji GFX system in the future. I don’t earn money on my photography but I'm concerned about the diffraction on High Mpix sensors in the 135 cameras and what useful aperture range that is left before the refraction kills the details. My main stopper to switch is that it’s expensive to start with a new system and I’m on a limited budget therefore I will not switch to the Nikon Z-system. I'm left with staying in the old Nikon F- system or go to Fuji GFX in the future. But there are no “PC /TS” lenses in the Fuji system. I got three PC lenses that I use and I may get the 19mm PC lens too. I will stay in the Nikon F-system, for wildlife and I’m saving for a 2nd hand 400mm lens.
Thank you, Thomas. I’m unaware of any PC/TS lenses in the GFX ecosystem. I’m relatively new to Fuji. However, it doesn’t strike me as the type of camera apt for the kind of photography you describe. I like fuji for street/documentary photography and the medium frame to show people in interior environments or even to take pictures of interior design. I also shoot at wide apertures, so diffraction has never been one of my concerns, but I see how it can be a concern with the type of pictures you take. If you are more into landscape, especially sport and wildlife photography, you’re on the right track with Nikon. Nikon seems to have specific features that are perfect, like high frame rate/burst mode paired with high-speed autofocus and various lenses that are perfect for what you are trying to accomplish. The GFX system, and any medium format cameras for that matter, will be slower, and you may miss some precious shots. Also, if not for work, I would never consider spending $12-13k on a camera system. I think Nikon will work well for you, and once you are retired, you will be happy to have bought a solid option. Also, with more time to spend on it, you never know. You can probably still earn with some of your pictures. Thank you for the comment, and good luck!
@@admartino Thank you for your feedback. Fuji is working on one or two TS lenses to the GFX system. I need a great DOF so the larger sensor will give me that without diffraction. I’m mostly into local woodland photo and there is not allot of space between the camera and motive. I do some intermittent wildlife and I’m not good at it, so I will upgrade my 300mmF2.8 screw drive AF telephoto lens with a 2nd hand 400mmF2.8 G VR lens in the near future and use my DSLR camera on it. I have Fuji X-Pro1 and X-T1 cameras (I like the Pro 1 but hate the T1) for Sunday walks, one have a tele zoom and that I use for local wild life. I have some old analogue MF lenses that can be use on a Fuji GFX camera with adaptes but The 50 Mpix sensor is enough for them and I will not put allot of money into it. I’m not good enough as a photographer to earn money on my photos. I need to take pictures more often to improve myself. I like to have something to do after retirement..
@@thomaseriksson6256 I think you're on the right track, and I like the idea you can adapt older lenses. I don't have a lot of experience in the TS field and I'm wondering how many megapixels you would need, but have you considered the 50s? It will be nice to have dedicated time for your art to improve and flourish!
@@admartino Thank you for taking your time to respond to my post. I have used Nikon digital cameras since 2007. I stared with a DX camera D300 a 12 Mpix but it broke down 2 years ago. During that time I got some 2nd hand MF system as Mamiya7ii and HB 503 CW with some lenses. I got a Nikon D700 a 12 Mpix because I could reuse the D300 vertical grip. Last year I got a 2nd hand D800E 36 Mpix. I’m aiming to a 2nd hand D850 a 46 Mpix camera and I recently got some lenses to it as 50mmF2.0 Macro, 24-70F2.8 VR and 70-200F2.8 VR, I’m still saving for a used 400mmF2.8 VR. As I mostly do landscape, wood land and some intermittent wildlife and don’t sell any pictures I will do well with a Fuji GFX 50S and two adapters, but first I need to finish my upgrade of the Nikon F-system. My goal is to put time on my photography. I was at my top 12 years ago but today I need to start over. It’s more important to take photos than to get new equipment but I like to reuse the MF lenses.
@@thomaseriksson6256 wise words. Good luck with everything, and keep me posted!
Been surprised by the images some people are getting with adapted ef lenses. In a good way…
This camera I’d consider if it had X-T5 manual dials
I’m glad you said that! I’ve been playing with the X-T5 and I love the dials but, sometimes it’s too easy to change the bottom layer of the dials inadvertently. My next few videos are going to be all X-T5!
I didn't really come for a music video, so I'm out.
I appreciate your feedback, Daryl! Thank you for taking the time to stop by.
This isn’t Dragons Den Daryl.
Oh and who cares whether you’re in, out or shaking it all about 🙄 Bye then ✌️
@@chloescanlon1107 You cared enough to comment. Self own much?
Seriously, when someone drowns themselves out with music, it gives me the impression they really aren't confident in what they're saying.
Overreacting and Emotional, work on it Daryl. 🙄
@@darylnd It’s awful, I know. It must be very hard for you. Navigating the millions of videos on YT and not getting exactly what you want, then being forced to comment about your displeasure, only to be told by others you’re overreacting. Ridiculous.
