Completely agree with you on Nostalgic Negative being the best film simulation. It has the most tonal range of film out of all their film simulations. It is currently on the the following cameras: GFX 100S, GFX 50Sii, X-H2S (which I own) and X-H2.
Now coming to xt5!
@@graydeotto2820 I saw that! Exciting
Love to hear more about you and AJ. Great images of AJ, he must have been so pleased with those. Great fun Matt
I second this! We have a lot of strange history regarding the building those photos were shot in and I think it would make for a very cool story time.
Great portraits. Good tip about using a slower shutter speed to pull in more ambient light. Thanks.
Not to sound discourteous, towards your comment and yes good tip but at the same time..thats like basic photography though.. lol "Exposure Triangle" lol
there's one type of video that none of the photographers on youtube have ever done and i'd love for somebody like you that has no problem in letting cameras go to do it: how you do you sell cameras? do you worry about how much you're going to sell it for vs how much you bought it for? do you have a threshold in that sense? which platforms do you use to sell them?
maybe it's a boring video, but maybe it can be helpful for a lot of people
He’s a RUclipsr, and as nice as he is his priority is to make as much money as possible …. I’m not knocking it, I’d do it if I could, but I’d be shit. So he buys cameras and loses money all for his RUclips art.
Letting them go if you aren`t using them sounds a sensible policy until you factor in that (at least in the UK) used camera dealers work on a 60% profit margin .So every time you trade in you`re losing a shed load of money and simply handing 6O% to a dealer . You just need to be very careful what you buy and only sell if if you can afford to take the financial hit . It still might make sense ,you just need to be aware of the implications .
Couldn’t agree more on Nostalgic Negative man. It’s the only Fuji profile that strikes me every time!
The moment you talked about camera collecters - I looked at my XT-1 which I solely bought cuz I was drooling over it - haven't used it nearly enough as my XT-20 (Secobd hand). I should sell it.
love your camera philosophy! Less is more!
I thought it would be 2 videos in a day! hahaha. Nice to see you around here, Matt. That's a nice camera but it's really hard to carry around, more even in places like here in Brazil where it would catch attention.
Catch & release is such a great title. Haha. My only gripe with my GFX100S is that it doesn't have the option to shoot S/M/L RAWs, like some other brands have started doing. Otherwise, I love mine!
absolutely enjoyed this insight and your opinion on the gfx 100s. Are the shots at 5:20 shot with a film simulation or just raws?
What does 35mm crop mode do on a native GFX lens? Say you had the 80mm F/1.7 which works out to be a 63mm F/1.3 in full frame terms. Does that 35mm crop mode turn the lens into a true 80mm F/1.7?
I got one to and took it to Mongolia last month and nothing can touch it even in minus 23c no issues and the images are mind blowing .
Great time dude! Thank you! Let’s do it again very soon!
I hate you, AJ Goode 🖕🖤
@@MeetMrMayhem88 who is AJ Goode?
@@TheHouseOfMasks damnit did I spell it wrong? I wasn't sure 😄😄 but legit, I watch every vid u upload 🤘
@@MeetMrMayhem88 thank you!!
@@TheHouseOfMasks Absoluely my guy 👊 Can't wait until Palefest next year, I'm gonna try n plan to make the trip up from Nashville to come. Looked amazing this year. Keep winning the rest of 2022, this has been the ultimate year for H.O.M. 🤘🤘
I am buying the X-H2 because I want to shoot medium format in my travel street photography. I know the X-H2 is not medium format but it is the step into Fuji world and see if I like there system. I also believe next generation of medium format will probably be better for me.
Fuji just announced that nostalgic neg will be on the XT5!
Did the leica lens cover the entire sensor of the Fujifilm GFX 100s ? or did you have to crop ?
Looks like most M mount adaptors say that only lenses wider than 50mm will vignette on the GFX.
This is why Leica has mastered their lineup. Full frame, amazing glass, outstanding build quality, manageable file sizes, color science. Expensive yes- but resale values are stable and sometimes have upside. Hard to beat.
Going to suggest again a Hasselblad 907x 50c, just because I'm curious what your opinions on it would be! There haven't been a lot of real world test videos of it from people who weren't working from a position of reviewing in a launch window with a loaner from Hasselblad, and at this point I've seen enough of your videos to feel like I can understand a bit more where your opinions on it are coming from! Mostly selfish, but think it'd be fun to review either way.
Was it the closest to get the film feel from a digital camera?
Coming back for reruns!
the true GOAT
What are you going to replace it with?
I have that same microphone arm! Ha, tuned in because I've been thinking about this camera. Probably not going to pick it up at this point but do you love that mic arm? Tried it out the first time tonight and man, getting that lined up, that knob at the end just doesn't have a good place to be! Anyways, great video, great talking head lighting, thanks for the info!
I guess I don’t understand the “these are tools” argument. I’m a working fine art photographer and have my set of “tools” that fill my use case. I guess if my use case was constantly evolving then so would my toolset (maybe?). However I can still accomplish the same outcome regardless of the toolset and regardless of genre. Do you think RUclips has driven your need to change your toolset so you can constantly create fresh content? Do you think contemporary photographers are more focused on the process of taking images versus the outcome of the image?
Good question. Of course, Matt can answer this better, but here are a few ideas: (1) Many content creators on RUclips also have other jobs like shooting commercially or shootings weddings, which require different gear than the channel. (2) Shooting high-quality RUclips videos requires yet another type of setup. (3) People that work professionally with some gear may prefer gear that feels very different during their private life (this is true for other areas, not just photography). (4) To some degree RUclips is about showing us something that not all of us can or want to experience first-hand. Take Matt's video about the Pentax 67 72mm 2.8 lens as an example. I am not going to buy this lens for my 67 but I always wanted to see how it performs and what the images look like. So, that was an interesting video for me. Put differently, showing different tools, options, styles, and so on is one approach for creating RUclips content. (5) If you have a good relationship with KEH, Leica, Fuji, and so on, you are exposed to more gear (in a positive sense) and this simply creates more opportunities. Again, just some ideas.
I have one, I really think it could have benefited from CFExpress instead of SD cards. It feels like the biggest impediment is the time to save the files.
Still shooting the x100v?
Why are all the big film photography youtubers using top end digital cameras suddenly ?
On the plus side I guess it gives the small time RUclips creators a chance
Did you sell your Nikon D850 that you used for weddings?
I need to learn this catch and release technique🥴
Totally get it...did you also sell your X100V?
I would love to see a longer interview/story about AJ and the House of Masks!
Hi Matt, have you tried scanning film with these medium format cameras? I saw a video comparing regular digital camera scanning and pixel shift hi-res. The idea is not to create huge files, instead it's to show better the grain structure on the film, color, dinnamic range.. Maybe that would be a good idea for a video.
For shooting river, rocks and flowers no need for GFX I guess.. iPhone can do it similar ;) But for portraits .... yes please!
one time for the Minolta XG-M i still have mine!!! :D
So what's next? Leica M11?
Every Fuji shooter makes me want to take my Canon back. The colors right out of camera are insane.
if you shoot in xpan aspect ratio you get 50mp files...
Great photos. I enjoyed your video. We should go out shooting together one of these days. Look me up when you are in Columbus. I have the GFX 100s.
