    I own both the 50r and the 100s. Both amazing. When I first got my 50r I kept getting the error but it stopped after I stopped shooting in 15 degree weather. I’ve owned the 100s since March, and I spent 50 days shooting travel and stock in northern Canada, the Yukon, and all over Alaska up to and including Prudhoe Bay/Deadhorse Both GFX’s and four lenses traveled with me for the50 days and they both worked flawlessly up above the Arctic circle in July SNOW!! I returned with over 10,000 raw files and neither camera gave meany issues! And don’t even get me started on the image quality…. WOW!!

    Hi Keith, great video as always, I've had the 100S for almost 9 months now and I'm only just getting to grips with it. I bought the Laowa 17mm lens and had mixed results, almost always my own fault and therefore never jelled with it. I've just taken delivery this week of the GF 20-35 and whoa, the field of view is incredible after using the 32-64 for so long, shame you didn't get to try it during your testing, can't wait to get out this weekend to try it properly.

    Thanks for sharing your thoughts in this well-done video. FYI, I have the Fuji GFX50sii, the 100's brother. In short I absolutely love it. Wall to wall image quality. Moreover, I get pretty similar ability to pull details out of the shadows that you described. One drawback is that this camera with lenses does weigh quite a bit. Some of the larger GF lenses weigh 2 to 2.5 lbs. Lugging around a camera with 3 lenses is indeed a load, particularly at my age.
    Should you decide down the road to get a GFX 100, you can use adapters to use your Canon tilt-shift lenses. (By the way, I purchased your tilt-shift book and am enjoying reading it....) However, I am positive that you know you likely will get vignetting; therefore, you may only have 4 to 5mm of useful shift. One solution is to use the camera in 35mm mode or a 1x1 crop size. In those instances you should not get vignetting. I have a Nikon 28mm f3.5 PC lens that I use here and there with an adapter. In the full GFX crop mode, I get about 5mm of reasonable shift before vignetting kicks in. Unshifted the lens has no dark corners, which gives me about a 22mm full frame equivalent. I paid $300 off of Ebay for the lens in excellent condition. I feel I got a kind of poor-mans shift lens ability for my purchase. Have used it here and there for photographing buildings and some landscapes.
    Lastly, there are some RUclips channels that talk about tilt-shift on the GFX 100. One is "Christopher Leggett Photography". If you have not already known about him, check it out.

    I use the Canon TS-E 90mm L ii Macro with a Kipon adapter on the Fuji GFX 100s. It works perfectly and is roughly as sharp as my native GFX lenses (110mm, 45mm and 250mm). Whilst the multi shot mode is indeed not so great as you say, the GFX 100 files do however lend themselves to significant enlargements in Gigapixel (not quite 400 megapixel level to my eye, but easily 200 to 300 depending on the image). I’ve had the camera lock a few times in the year and a half that I’ve owned it, but still haven’t worked out what caused these to happen. It’s been so rare that I haven’t really cared too much to worry about. This is easily my favourite camera eve.

    Hi Keith - interesting to hear your views on the 100s - which I own. I previously had the 50s with their wonderful articulating viewfinder,, which I would have thought you would find useful in your work. I do miss that on the 100s, so I wondered if you'd considered the 100, which can take that viewfinder. You can pick up a 2nd hand 100 for less than the 100s these days! Just a thought.

    Totally agree. It is all about the quality of the files and how well they withstand the post process. I do use (occasionally) a Canon 24mm T/S lens with an adapter. It work (not full range) and the vignette is tolerable. But I am not really sure that those Canon lens can really manage the 100MP. As many other, I am really curious to see the GS T/S lenses. BTW I do have the new 20-35mm. To my eye it seems to perform as the 23mm throughout the zoom range. Fuji did shoot itself in the foot a bit as the 23mm may become obsolete. Likely many of them used on the market soon (mine included, possibly)

      I used my TS-E 24mm with a Panasonic S1R when I reviewed it. It performed well with the (~180MP) pixel shift shots outdoors, with a clear increase in image detail.

    I was always guided by the lens to then choose the body. In my case macro 1:1 to 5:1 and so Canon in 2009.
    Two years ago I switched to the GFX50R and the jump in IQ was big.
    These files are magnificent; as you can attest.
    I continue to use the MP-E 65mm adapted to the GFX. Fujinon GF lenses are in my opinion excellent; one of the best in this field. The GF T&S will certainly be excellent too. Quite expensive (less than Hassy's) but excellent. Let's wait for them. However, it would be nice if you could test the Canon T&S on the GFX. Maybe you can. Thanks for the feedback.

      The Fujifilm sensor diagonal is 55mm the Canon is 43, half the difference is 6mm. The 24mm TS (and I believe other Canon lenses) image circle is 65mm. Because of it's larger sensor within the same image circle, Fuji either shows far more Vignetting, or get 50% less effective shift.

    The GFX 100s looks like a lovely bit of kit. Whilst lighter than previous MF bodies my first impression on picking one up was that it was heavy. I do hope Sony lend you gear in the future. Yes it all comes down to what we are use to and our individual needs. That isn’t very different for you. My current bodies are:
      Sony A7R4 665g
      Olympus EM1 MK2 574g
      That said I have mused over only taking a GFX100S and one lens along and not using it handheld, but for me that would be a huge amount of money for a very specific use case. The complexity of the Sony settings do mean I look at the six Fuji custom modes with envy. I like the size of the Sony, but prefer the hand grip on Olympus and Canon. Everything is a compromise, but great we have choice 😊

    I enjoyed this review and the comments jive with my own. I'm coming from a Nikon D850 (which I still love) and often use the 19mm tilt shift, but I really want to get my hands on the Fuji tilt shift version. If it's a good performer (which I expect it will be), then the Nikon is history. I like the GFX 100s......it similarly slows me down for landscape and also architectural but I need to go slower as I get used to the menus. I also have the 45-100 and am looking forward to doing some more stitched panos of Manhattan. Jeez....I think it took me three years to get used to everything on the D850!

    Magnificent camera! You mentioned wanting a *RAW based histogram,* which really makes sense to be in all high end cameras, but can't we get close by *lowering the contrast all the way* down and using *a standard picture style* instead of Canon's Vivid, which increases contrast and cuts down headroom? That seems to work fairly well with Canon cameras anyway, but I don't know if it's the same as RAW. Maybe RAW would have more headroom yet, making the histogram more accurate in determining when whites are blown out. What do you think, Keith? I've never seen this tested.
    The advantage of the histogram being determined by JPEG, I would think is that we can still have normal color saturation, so images don't look so blah in the lcd.

    • @KeithCooper
      @KeithCooper  Год назад

      Yes there are ways of getting close [uniWB for example - see blog.kasson.com/using-in-caera-histograms-for-ettr/ ]
      However I'd prefer the camera just did it rather remember all that ;-)

    • @jefffenske1958

      Thrilling! As some of your photos demonstrate, 4:3 is so often a better format than 3:2 for many subjects, including buildings. What a delight to shoot in it natively and still have all of the other aspect ratios in this big sensor without having to crop everything from 3:2 in Canon's smaller sensor, and be able to shoot in 4:3 and other formats with our Canon SLR lenses, using the entire image circle of our lenses!
      Dynamic range is fantastic, compared to the 5Ds, which is so extremely useful! According to Photons to Photos (which I don't know anything about so far), they compare all cameras. The GFX100S is 12.33. Canon 5Ds is only 9.76. The only cameras that have better DR are a Hasselblad at 12.89, two Phase Ones at 13.06 and 13.33, and Sony Alpha 7R III at 12.79.
      One GFX100S review said the sensor is made by Sony.
      The only reason I can see to NOT get the camera is to wait until they upgrade it, which could be many years, do you think?
      One reviewer says Fuji is good at giving meaningful firmware updates to keep it up to date, instead of holding out for marketing reasons.

    • @KeithCooper
      @KeithCooper  Год назад

      There might be a MK3 version of the camera but if it's a 100S, then it's limited by the sensor [Sony made]. There won't be a significant new camera until a new sensor is available [150 for example]
      Be very careful taking notice of such numbers unless you understand exactly what they mean and their context in regards to actually using the camera. It is the sort of data I deliberately leave out of reviews. Much like gamut volumes for paper reviews and all the nonsense in HiFi reviews in the 90's
      Fuji have indeed cultivated the image of supplying useful firmware updates...;-)

    The diffraction limit is reached when the Airy disc exceeds 2 times the pixel pitch of the sensor. For green light the Airy disc is about 1.3 times the f/number. The GFX 100S diffraction limit, a pixel pitch of 3.76µm, is at F12 and the GFX 50sii 5.31µm pixel pitch place it at F17. I will not get any Z cameras in the future unless I need to replace a wildlife camera. For woodland photo I need a large DOF. For wildlife I need a small DOF but a quick lens. Therefore I need to use PC lenses on my Nikon D800E, diffraction at F8, and Nikon D850, diffraction at F5.6, for a large DOF or use focus stacking. What about the RAW file sizes. Canon offers different choices for RAW output; I find on my 5DSr that smaller sizes are all I need often, and they don't hog disc space. I think once any camera that gets too much over even 24 mpix, in fact maybe even over 16 mpix should offer small RAW files. Fuji does not seem to be offering the variable RAW size output, I find that keeping me from the H2 model as a consideration for buying.

I remember in particular that even though Ken was a declared Nikon user/afficionado, he admitted that when it comes to articulated lenses Canon was superior to Nikon.
