Dude knows how to make a video that is information dense, thought provoking, informative, and entertaining. All without a wasted moment on any kind of nonsense. I respect the hell out of it.
Jamie, I am so, so glad that you only post when you want to. The quality you put out puts anything to shame that’s posted purely for consistency’s sake. Your videos are approachable and helped me a lot when I was a beginner, but as someone who has stepped into professional photography, I still come away with inspiration from your videos. I think this goes to show that you provide quite a bit of depth (especially for a Youbtube channel, when most content on this platform is pretty shallow), but explain it in really clear terms through on-point scripting, examples and really useful animation work. Also, the attention to detail in your animations is incredible! They add something playful which to me just communicates how passionate you are. That in itself is inspiring! =)
Jamie, as a long-time subscriber and intermediate hobbyist photographer, I just want to express how grateful I am. You're hands down the best teacher I've come across in photography. My relationship with photography feels almost sublime, and your videos are like reading a sacred text-genuinely. As someone else mentioned, the visuals are absolutely immaculate! Whenever you drop a new video, I always make sure to carve out time to watch (and rewatch) it religiously. I hope you're in better health, and I wish you all the best. Love from India!
I’m so happy to leave this like and comment because I knew you were having bad times not long ago, and seen you again was really comforting and illustrative (but that last one is ever present on them). So happy to see you creating and inspiring !
I love these videos, you use a lot of subtle visuals while maintaining a calm video which has some great insights. You also assume your audience is knowledgeable which is a relief on youtube. Thanks for the great work!
Its always a good day when Jamie drops another one. Good to see you Jamie!! Thanks for putting out the best photography content on youtube, you are the best.
One word to describe this video - generous - I think it is a gift to many aspiring photographers and I found it invigorating and thought-provoking, so thank you for sharing these words of wisdom and inspiring images. You turned me onto a number of new photographers to follow
Every time one of these videos gets posted; I rush to watch it. Of all the photographer's channels I follow, this channel has the most thoughtful, well-made and useful videos. I feel about them the same way I feel about some of my favorite shows or documentaries. As usual, this video is a commentary, an introduction to artist photographers, a guide to practical information, and a motivation video that makes you think and want to try something new. Thank you for these, I am going to pick up my camera now.
Honestly, I'm amazed how this video is well made, the explanation is so calm and entertaining. This video probably summarised all of composition and it's various types. Enjoyed every moment. Thank you Jamie 🙏
Nice to find a genuinely useful photography video for a change! I do try to use some of these elements in my photography but it’s nice to have all these composition and editing guides in one handy video. Photography is a never ending learning experience and I find it is always useful to keep guides like these in mind when out photographing and reviewing the final edited photos. Often I find photos I like can still lack something and it’s useful to try to understand how I can improve next time, especially if I have the luxury to revisit a particular location.
Takes one back to the heady days when watching photography-related videos was still fun. Yet there's a fresh twist to the presentation. So appreciated, Jamie. Stay safe and well.
I don’t know if others feel like this, and it doesn’t help your RUclips impressions stats, but your videos are and have always been somewhat of a special event for me. Rather than randomly playing content and not paying attention, when you have a video come up I don’t watch it straight away. I wait, until I can sit down with a cuppa and give the video my full attention to enjoy an editing masterclass and learn a bunch. Thanks for the hard work, and I’m sorry I’m not helping your algorithm, but keep at it you legend 👍
@@WoodworkJourney Thank you. I’m glad you enjoy my videos. Don’t worry about the algorithm. It will do what it does. I’m not here to serve the algorithm, I’m here to make videos on photography for whomever wants to see them.
A day when you upload is a great day! Just recently, I have been re-watching a bunch of your older videos. Thank you for the work you do and all the best for you personally! Great to see you back on RUclips! :)
The mixture of such informative content with editing that emphasizes your points while delighting the viewer, has always been a treat to watch. Been watching you for years and always take notes on both aspects. Well done Jamie.
Still undisputed: best photography channel on YT. On a different level and depth. The banana moment is such a great symbol of your work: the small details executed perfectly, with a little Humor and self irony. Thank you for your work.
I really appreciate the examples you give. It's such a direct way to help people like myself understand the point you're trying to make. Also, so far all of your videos have been very helpful and inspiring. Well done, sir.
Several of your videos are ones I come back to, and this one tops the list. Your point on taking influence from your surroundings especially with colour was so well put, and has triggered a wave of ideas, so thank you!
What I absolutely love about this guy vs the “content creators” is he teaches you things about yourself and what you might like instead of say Peter M, who just tells you what he likes, over and over. But I’m glad the content creators exist, because it means this guy stands out. 🎉
Thanks Jamie. Excellent and considered advice as always. I once remember a lecturer commenting that Photography isn't reality anyway, so creating has to be about something else if it has more than documentary purpose.
A profoundly helpful video, among many. Jaime's channel is the most inspiring, educational, thought provoking, honest, well produced, and eagerly awaited of all the photographers I watch. Thank you for your generosity, Mr. Windsor.
What I love about your videos, is the depth of photography essence, which is at the top of RUclips. 👏 Always great to watch and re-watch your content ❤
Fantastic video. I love the pace and care in all the visual elements. Nothing you add is superfluous and fully contributes to your story about omitting unnecessary elements. Spot on!
Pretty great video tbh. I rarely see anyone with anything longer than a 35mm nowadays. Also many just go the B&W route as the easy mode of "wow" photos.. which usually doesn't work. What B&W without consideration does is makes your photo a bit less worse than it is because you removed the visual clutter of colors, but it's not gonna turn an uninteresting photo into a good one, it just feels lazy. I always have my 70-200 slapped on as my go to lens and try to stick with colors unless I work with deep shadows and go for B&W , but even then I sometimes fall for some of the mistakes depicted in this video and it's always a good reminder. Getting carried away and getting tighter and tighter shots until it's a complete dud instead of letting negative space tell the story. Well done Jamie!
Thank you, not a regular but dropped in. Watching this as an 'ex' photographer & engineer come systems strategist - dealing with subjects in the global polycrisis - I took away an analogy and insights for effective sense making, and communicating amongst complexity. 🙏
Great video as always. I've been living in Dubai a short while now and was very inspired by Preet's work that you showcased. Im not a pro photographer, and i generally take photos for my own personal enjoyment. That being said i do fantasise about getting better artistically and technically. A number of Preets shots depicted scenes and objects that i have seen and attempted to photograph myself, and i feel inspired to attempt these again when i see someone successfully working with the subject matter through the filter of their own technique and vision. Thank you for always "exposing" us to such good work Jamie. Your instruction is on the level of private tertiary education. I say this as someone who has previously worked as a graphic design educator.
Jamie, thank you for all the effort and time you put into your videos. We notice all those beautiful details. Overall, thank you for provoking the inner energy to go out and take pictures. You inspire us to keep going and improving.
Thanks so much for this video. Can’t tell how many “do this or don’t do that” videos O ve seen, and to be honest, most of them make interesting points. But THIS one is different… it s not just tips, it s tremendous content and concepts, well explained, with great examples, and very entertaining “theoretical” takes between them. Bravo!!!
Good stuff. I particularly relate to your comments about how different our perception of something is compared with the captured image. Clearly, our brains do a lot of cropping and removing!! Thanks Jamie.
Thank you, Jamie! Another example of suggestions to the point, presented in an entertaining and visually aesthetic way. I look forward to every time you create a new video!
Welcome back! Your videos are always veri informative and nice to watch. Sometimes I enjoy your older videos, "9 quick tips for BETTER BLACK & WHITE photos" is my absolute favourite.
Thank you so much for these videos that you make. It's such a joy to get to see through your eyes and improve the way I look at things when I'm snapping photos. I don't spend enough time looking at other people's work and it's great to get to look at it with someone who knows how to verbalize what is going on.
How I wait for Jamie’s original thinking in very well presented videos! This is one of my top top channels, and the only one with the little bell notification. A heartfelt thank you from a Shanghailander 🎉
Beautifully conceived, paced and executed. Generous in its appreciation of other photographers. Empowering in its invitation to experiment. Exceptional work, Jamie! (And lovely to see aerial footage of Bath!)
Great video, excellent tips and as a bonus, introduction to some great photographers that I haven't heard of before. Glad to see that you are doing well, Jamie. ❤❤
I think the thing about getting close when shooting people, is that there's a different emotional feel to an image that's shot with a 35mm, where the subject fills the frame, as opposed to the same scene with an 85 or 105mm with similar framing. Those shots feel more intimate. Of course, that's not the only way to do photography, as you eloquently describe in this gem of a video!
Mr Windsor! So pleased to se you back and I hope you are better. As ever, this is a brilliant, intelligent and very useful guide - this time to interesting compositions. As someone who loves the avant-garde and surrealism, I do try. But this video introduces me to a whole range of approaches and techniques which will be so useful if my brain obliges. Thank you so very very much. Good luck!
I'm a seasoned sports photographer, so this subject is not particularly useful to me. However, I LOVE the way you present your material. Your video editing and presentation style is top notch.
That was a great video for all photographers! Thank you. You really do have one of the top 5 photography channels on RUclips. Your production quality and creativity is a gold standard.
Jamie that was so interesting and incredibly helpful and motivating. I really enjoy listening to you decontructing photos and explaining techniques its good to see a photography channel broadening peoples horizons not just pushing gear or one specific style of photography - keep up the good work!
Jamie fantastic video unlike other RUclipsrs you make me think mainly due to your approach to explaining your thoughts. Your long exposure video, best I have seen on RUclips. Keep it up my friend.
Great tips. I'd also suggest one, especially if you want to keep that "everything in the big vista". Try unusual cropping and aspect ratios. Sometimes I crop my wide angle shots into 'fake panoramas'. It's amazing how just cropping off the large amount of sky and foreground into a slim stripe can change the visual balance of the whole composition.
Thank you for confirming this felling I always had when traveling, forcing myself to only shoot at 85mm. While frustrated to cut off part of what makes it great, I challenge myself to convey this greatness through a tight crop! I actually get very mediocre when using wider lenses!!!
You are really good, man. This is the precise information I needed for my photography right now. And, on top of that, the video is very inspiring and instructive. I loved every photographer you talked about and how you explained their style.
Thanks a lot Jamie. Always a great pleasure to watch your infotainment show. Many greetings from Austria. As you might hear it a lot, but you are a master of visualization and creativity.
Not sure why I wasn't subbed here before!! I just loved this video. Moreover, your presentation style, pace and clarity are really helpful for learning. Thanks and have a great weekend!
Jamie, content aside, I see your visuals are still the gold standard in all of youtube land.
Thank you
I had to rewind to see again some of the transitions or effects included, so much quality to digest at once.
Ridiculously high production value!
His titles pack is also awesome - purchased a while ago!! Nice vintage lut too
When Jamie Windsor posts I drop what I’m doing and watch the video 👌🏻
Me too!!!
And me!
Yup. Precisely.
Same here!
Yes, indeed!
The best photography channel on RUclips IMHO. Period.
