Love this. I was on the fence, but couldn't justify keeping this used market alive. Just rode my brand new one home yesterday; engine-braking, rev varying, under 40mph joyride. At least I know how I'm gonna break it in.
Like I said, I bought two of them from dealerships because people were asking almost as much as new bikes (then, the prices are worse now) Now I know how they've been treated and maintained and if something happens, I know it's my fault! Thanks for watching and for the comment. Best of luck with the new bike!
@@MOBStreet83 exactly my last ATV purchase I got scammed a Yamaha warrior got to ride it one time brought it home it would not start sat in the garage pretty much taunting me. It took it out of me my wife told me just buy new stuff.
Also because of the pandemic people .. are itching to get out of their homes.. The word adventure is something that triggers everybody's mind since they've been stuck in their homes
Dude this was a great video. The used market is a freaking joke man. It makes more sense to buy new at this point. The only problem is most the dealerships are pre-sold through June or beyond. I got super lucky and found a 2022 at a dealership 5 hours from where I live. Driving to pick it up on Monday the 4th! Thanks for all the motivation and great info Matt!
Thanks! Yeah, it is pretty crazy right now that's for sure. I'm stoked you found a new one! I spoke with a gentleman today who bought a 2013 and paid what I paid for my 2019 brand new off the floor. I wish I had a way to make my own and sell them. I'd be able to quit my job if I could! Thanks for watching and for the comment. Best of luck picking yours up and I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoy mine!
@@MOBStreet83 Dude that is insane he paid that much. It's too bad. This is a machine everyone should have a chance to enjoy at a reasonable price. I picked mine up and brought it home 4 days ago! I can't even begin to describe how much fun it has been. Keep up the great work my friend!!!
Just brought two brand new ones home based off of your information. Couldn’t be more happier. Like the aftermarket videos as well. Thanks for all of your informational videos. I’ll be using them as I add more accessories to the bikes!
Preach, brother. Very good timing finding your video. Here it is, in the final few months of 2023, and I'm looking at a 2019 Van Van. It has 127 miles on it. Not a typo. The seller says "showroom condition" and wants $4650 for it. Which is what, a dollar off MSRP? Otherwise he's not really forthcoming with info and its an hour and half drive to give it a look. I get that it isn't being made anymore, and it's kind of a "niche" bike. Before watching this, I probably would have hitched up the trailer, driven out there with some cash and tried to pick it up for a little less. Instead, I think I'll go to my local dealer and pick up a known commodity for a little more money. Thanks for the wake-up call.
Thanks for the great review! I just bought my first bike ever (at age 62), a used 2021 that is one month old and absolutely mint with 223kms (I'm in Canada). I've only had it out on the backroads once so far (as winter is approaching) but may get it out one more time before the snow flies. It's the absolutely perfect bike for me and I couldn't be happier.
Congrats on the new bike and thanks for checking in! Get more riding in before it gets too cold up there! These bikes are great and I have had a great time with both of mine. My brother in law just bought one, my brother bought one and now my father in law has one! I've been told that this is a great first bike and a great last bike. I have really enjoyed it as an all around bike and have taken it everywhere. Here's to many more good times to come. Thanks again!
@@MOBStreet83 You're welcome! We're still in warm-ish temperatures so I'm hoping to get out again before snow! That's awesome that your family loves these awesome bikes. My friend said it's basically a 2 wheel tractor and I can't wait to test that out.
I just turned 62 and never owned a bike. This is the 1st bike I'm interested in, due to my new interests in my electric mtn bike conversion I just completed. The local craigslist says my local motorcycle shop has one I'll check out tomorrow.
I bought a brand-new, 2023 today-the used TWs online were almost same as new. It was on the showroom floor and had 7/10 of a mile on it. This video pushed me off the fence and I decided on new. Thanks Man!
Barra If you don't mind me asking... I'm in the same boat as you were I'm looking at used and looking at new. If you don't mind what was your out the door everything price? Tax, license, DMV, everything? Thank you in advance.😊
I admit I did buy my Tdub used from a dealership. I waited six months for a new one and none were coming. I am very happy with my purchase. The snow is chilling in the video. You are a awesome person for caring about Tdub community. Life is a gamble so roll the dice.
Buying used from a dealership is different from buying from a dealership. The dealership (if they aren't shady) is most likely going to do what they can do have that bike ready to go because they have a reputation to uphold and don't want something coming back and making them look bad. An individual on the other hand, they don't have that same pressure. Happened to me a few weeks ago with a piano I bought, I've put quite a bit of money into it even though they said it was in great shape. I was uneducated, but have since been schooled in many ways.
@@MOBStreet83 it does suck when someone cheats you. I don’t blame you for being upset. One of our motorcycle club members works at that dealership. Excellent guy and he was looking out for me. Only thing I know about pianos is nobody wants me to try to play one.
With that, if there are any problems within the first year you have the factory warranty! I don't think it is transferrable once the bike is sold. Plus, if you are the original owner you have the choice to get the Yamaha Extended Warranty on it as well.
@@MOBStreet83 I’m waiting on my Honda CRF 300 L from the dealer at the moment going on two months waiting but I’d rather wait and buy used right now it’s a ridiculous market right now.
I love this video. I scream this all the time. People are loopy. The prices are out of this world. I see people asking higher than retail because they want all their dealership fees abs taxes back. I will NOT pay it. I will buy new! Thank you for putting this out there. Maybe it will wake a few people up.
So with prices coming down now, I think used is the way to go. 3k price range seems the usual around here, and these aren't meant to be beauty queens, they're farm bikes. Thoughts?
Seller's goal: to get as much money from a buyer as possible. Buyer's goal: to give as little money to a seller as possible. The mantra of free trade and commerce for the past 50,000 years 🏍
Understood. I've been there as well. I just don't get how a 25+ year old machine is being sold for as much as a new or only two or three year old machine.
I’m so glad you brought up the break in. In 2007 I bought a new XT225 and I was crazy fussy on the breaking it in. I sold it at 33,000 miles and it still purred like a kitten. I didn’t ride it over 80% of the top speed either. Only on occasion, but not for very long. The break in, is the main reason I’d never consider buying a used one. Just watch RUclipsrs showing “Top speed” on their brand new bike. One more thing if you want longevity out of your bike. Warm the damn thing up before you ride it!
Excellent points Dennis! I have seen those who ride it like they stole it as soon as they get it and I know those are machines to stay away from. If Break In wasn't important it wouldn't be in the first part of the manual.
Right on! I bought my most recent motorcycle new from a dealer a few months ago! It’s nice to know that no amateurs have tinkered with the motorcycle I’m now riding.
Hey Don! Thanks for watching. That is one of the pros about buying new from the dealer, it's nice to know you are the only one that has put miles on the bike. Thanks again!
@ the 5:00 mark, speaking of an old bike with average .5 miles a day. Would you agree if there had been literally .5 miles a day on it that would be good? Every day the oil getting to bearings, seals etc.? But without excessive wear. Verses say, 1x a year it gets ridden 180 miles.
GREAT QUESTION!! I would gladly take one that had been ridden as long as they made sure it got up to operating temp every time. If that were the case I would take that over a 180 1x trip. That way I know everything is getting the oil and fluids they need....somewhat.
Thanks Chris!! Yeah, we got hit with more yesterday! Utah weather is weird. It seems like October is either hot or cold. Last year was hot and this year is cold......so next year oughtta be hot again.
What I am finding in the used market are models from all years with prices ranging from 3000 to 4900 with low mileage to 10,000 miles. But the higher prices are the ones with aftermarket parts like risers & handle bars, handguards, LED headlights, wider foot pegs, windscreen, or even a larger fuel tank. These aftermarket parts are a great addition and worth paying a little extra for, but they can be purchased separately for the brand new bike as well and installed yourself for not much extra.
Good commentary. It is definitely a sellers' market these days. I don't know how many times I've seen the same hard to get items sold back and forth for the same "new" price. And the dealerships are not budging on their prices. No haggle room like there used to be pre-2020. That said, for anyone who's interested, I just got rid of my 2021 TDub. It just wasn't for me. I sold it to a dealership I did NOT buy it from for $4400. I'm a realist. I had my fun with it and understand depreciation. I was seriously not expecting such a generous offer from a dealership, but it saved me from dealing with CL. And put money in my pocket for a new toy.
There's a thought! Dealers most likely have a waiting list for the TW's. It is a sellers market for sure, that is why I was trying to help the buyers as well. Don't know how it will overly pan out, but here it is. I know the Tdub isn't for everyone, but maybe later on down the road it will fit the bill you're looking for in a bike. Thanks for the comment, I really appreciate it.
Hey Matt. This was a great post. Quick question. What is your opinion on figuring in the price of installed options on used bikes TW's? I have found a 2018 TW with about 2000.00 dollars of options on it in pristine shape. Should I subtract the cost of the options to get the true cost of the bike? Just a thought. Thanks and keep up the great work.
Hey Kit! Thanks for watching and for the comment, I really appreciate it! The only value those extra parts have are based on whether or not those are parts that you want on your bike and how willing you are to pay for them. Aftermarket doesn't (Officially) add value to the bike. Also, depending on what was done and who did the work it could actually do more harm than good. I'm gonna get some hate from this reply, but that's just my take on it. Folks are willing to pay for them though and the market right now is a sellers market. Normally there are a few people fighting over each bike being sold. I hope this helps! Best of luck with getting yours and let me know how it goes!
I was just looking into purchasing one of these and I am surprised what people are asking for these used. I will just buy a new one as soon as I find one.
New prices are coming down thankfully. I'm buying a new one (2024) tomorrow for $4,495 with no hidden costs. At a Yamaha dealership. Used in my area they are still over $5,000. So it is literally cheaper to buy a new one?
@@specialk1287 No, I wouldn't really worry about it. I personally think that they 2023 will be pretty close, if not the exact same, as the 2022. I have the 2021 and have been extremely happy with it.
This is the reason I am getting a new TW used ones are not much less $ in this market of 2024, I will pay the extra $ & not get ripped off with used machines that are more than 5 yrs old, I am glad to hear u Matt on this topic.
@@MOBStreet83 when I watches videos on how the young dudes and gals treat their bikes I think I’m good I’m buying new. My dad despises car dealers but says I would recommend going to a motorcycle dealer
Hi Matt, We just bought our first new 2022 TW 200 from a dealer. My husband will be riding it. We enjoy your videos and think that you do a great job and are very informative. As to selling, I sold my husbands vintage 1975 XL 350 Honda in 96% pristine condition which he has owned for 43 years with 9300 miles (the bike was going to beat him starts like an old Harley) and a vintage 1984 Honda CT 110 Trail (too cramped when seating on it and can over heat at high elevations), which we bought new in 1986 with 2200 miles in 99% pristine condition. I did get top dollar for both bikes but they were in exception condition, stored, taken care of right and are rare in this condition. I do want to ask you about the seat of the TW 200, we are older 68 y/o for me and 73 y/o for my husband and come from the 1970's dual purpose Honda bikes. I still own my beautiful 1971 Honda red SL 175. The seat is uncomfortable OMG uncomfortable, one sits on your pelvis floor with this bike. After a few miles you are sore on the bottom 😬 Have you experience this problem when riding them? Our Honda bikes never were this way. Anyway looking at a seat concept seat. Keep up the great work you two and thumbs up!
Hey Diana!! Thanks for taking the time to watch and to comment, I appreciate it! Those other two bikes you sold should have pulled top dollar with the care and condition they were in, plus they AREN'T made any more so they have become collectors items. The TW is still being made and hasn't received the collectors status. As far as the seat goes, the only time I get really uncomfortable with it is when I have a passenger with me and we are riding non-stop for a few hours. Other than that I am able to move around on the bike and haven't felt as uncomfortable as you mention. I know that folks have used the Seat Concepts conversion and I have heard mixed opinions about it. Some folks have added gel seat covers and some have used the wool seat covers. I don't have a ton of experience with any options so I apologize that I am not much help on that one. Thanks again and all the best!
Hi Matt, Thanks again for the quick reply. Well "bite the bullet" and bought the Seat Concept seat for the TW 200. I did notice that most folks that complained of the seat were older and they are the ones that went with the new seats for their TW 200. I will let you know how it goes when we get it on the TW 200 and if it is an improvement or not. We did change out the foot pegs with HTTMT MT216-003- Gunmetal Black Motocross MX Dirt Bike Racing Foot Pegs from Amazon and that really made a great difference. I do not know why they put such small foot pegs on these bikes to begin with. Just received the new Nomadic Rack for the TW 200 today and it is a fine piece of work. It will look really great on the back. Keep up the great work. You and your wife remind me of us at your age going all over on our Honda motorcycles. We loved to camp and go motorcycling in the Beartooth Mountains in Montana when we were young. It is really great how you include the whole family and friends with your outings!
Funny how many times you say "you CANT ask that price". Pretty sure people can ask whatever they want. It's up to the market to decide if it's worth buying.
The market does determine how much they sell for. That is why the video is for buyers and sellers. Folks price them for whatever they want and I get that, but some reality has to be there as well. I had this happen with one of my trucks. The bank valued it at $20 and NADA did as well, but the market was way below that and I couldn't get more than $9,800 out of it. I understand how the market works, but if buyers hold out for a bit or buy new ones it'll bring the prices back down. This video is my opinion on the whole thing. Thanks for watching though and for your comment! I'm glad to see both sides.
You are right, the TW does hold its value in a used market but not to the point of it still being new. A similar bike used could sell for $2000 but a TW of the same could be worth $2500, because the TW is known for its reliability and has been the same build for many years only improving on its build rather than making a bunch of changes to it.
The rules are simple, a willing seller and a willing buyer. If I were selling mine I would consider those dealer fee's because my potential buyer can't buy a new one without them. Last year I was casually looking for something that might be more useful than our Yamaha Zuma 125 that we carry on the back of our motor home. Sometimes we get into some poorly maintained boondocking areas and US Forest Service areas where the Zuma doesn't excel. I had never heard of the TW but stumbled onto three of them on craigslist. I bought a 2014 with 600 miles on it from an older guy that didn't use it off road for $3800 with an upgraded seat. It's a nice blue without the dorky paint job and colors that most years seems to have. It's perfect for our needs and weighs the same as the Zuma.
If buyer and seller are both happy then I agree. Good call on getting one for exploring around. My wife and I have taken them all over the place and there is still a lot to see!
I live in Alaska its different here...I buy new. Snowmobiles, quads, bikes all hold there value here and many people ask and get close to new prices. As far as dealership fees, that's shipping and here it's not just tws.....
I recently saw a 2017 listed for $4000. I was thinking that it might be best to just go ahead and buy new. I then would KNOW that it had been broken in correctly! Good video!
No worries!! I would have bought used if the prices weren't so crazy right now. But, I have been really happy with the new ones. Best of luck with getting one!
Matt I just rolled my bike to the 3500 mile mark and its a 1989. I remember paying $37.00 a month thru the bank . I believe I paid $3700.00 and that felt like that was a lot and it was back then when the pay scale was a lot less then today. As for people asking almost as much as a new bike there is not much you can do but try and haggle on the price, like you said take someone who has a fresh set of eyes for the machine and so you don't get taken for too much money. As for me I have rode more this year then in past years and I have looked at the aftermarket parts and followed you and a few others advice and I really have enjoyed the new up grades and as for selling my bike I believe that I will keep it as long as I can ride it and pass it on to my son who has shown a interest in it . Thanks again for all your advice .
Hey Gunsite!! Congrats on hitting those miles. It is the Black and Red model 89'? I almost bought one of those this year but I had a new one on order so I waited for it to come in. Keep riding it and enjoy it! Both of my older kids learned how to ride my TW this year so I might have to buy a couple more so we can all be riding them. I am glad you have gotten some value out of the videos, thanks for your support and following along. If there is something on the bike you'd like to see done let me know and I will see what I can do. Thanks again.
@@MOBStreet83 yeah, I am in Florida . went out there in 2007 and in 2018 for the atv jamboree in Richfield. Planning on coming back with the tdubs soon.
I found a 2000 TW200 for $1500. Bought it on the spot runs and looks great all original. Tread is good but now 22 years old so getting new tubes and tires. Did I get a good deal?
If I knew the history or felt as though the seller was being honest with me, I'd be more considerate of buying used. But, I have been happy with new and now I know what has been done to the bike and what they have been through. Thanks for the comment!
Folks need to remember that it is no longer a brand new bike. Plus, it isn't like a classic car that isn't being made anymore that is now a collectors edition. They are still making them and they are still out there.
Good rule of thumb- Average used bike on craigslist will need new tires in 6 months or less, carb cleaned in 6 months or less, valve adjustment in 6 months or less, petcock rebuild in 6 months or less, new brake fluid bled through the system, rotors resurfaced soon and maybe new pads, oil change (obviously) and possibly a new clutch in 6 months or less. There’s usually a reason why it’s for sale…
Agreed, literally no reason to not get a new one. Unless you're looking for a certain color scheme from a specific year. I don't see myself ever selling mine though, so I'm not worried about resale.
Thanks, was on the fence also .My main reason for new is safety , do not know what has been done before especially the tires, brakes etc etc. sure it will cost more but worth it to me.
Totally agree. Ridiculous prices for these bike used. Go put a deposit on a new one. Dealer will take it. You may wait a month or 2 but you’ll get a new bike. My son put down 500$ on a 2022. We waited 2 months. And bam. It’s in the garage. Do not pay full price for a used tw200. 🍻 cheer. Keep up the good work
I bought a 1993 in 2015 for $900. I put tires, chain/sprockets, steering head bearings, new air filter new battery and bar risers. I have $1400 total in it. It had 4500 miles on it when I bought it. It had no leaks, no dry rot, no issues whatsoever. Tell me I went wrong buying buying a 22 year old bike.
You didn't pay $4,500 for it like that are asking for that bike right now. You didn't got wrong spending that much on that old of a bike. Not all used are gonna be bad. But it is easy to clean up a neglected bike and say it has been well kept and maintained for someone to come and see that and think they are getting a good machine for a lot of money. Not all are gonna be like that, but I have seen a lot lately that are.
Matt ,you are spot on..I've been out there looking for a two 200 and I'm in shock for what people want for their USED machines. Sure you want the most you can get BUT it's used not new sellers be realistic be ethical. Don't be a crook. If it's used, its not a dealer quality new machine.
I bought my 2018 TW brand new for $4,599 before fee's. I got hit by a car this summer and they totaled it out - the bike looked perfectly fine and had no issues so I retained it. I put a deposit on a new one and still haven't heard anything from the dealer months later. I ended up finding a brand new 2021 from a guy who changed his mind for $4,500. I sold my "wrecked" one with 2k miles in 12 hours to a guy who bought 8 of them that day for a hunt that was going on - i sold it for $4,000. Mine was the newest and best looking one on the trailer and probably the cheapest. Don't kill me but I played the market game and benefited quite well. 🤣
Just so we understand what your saying, you were hit by a car the insurance claim adjuster inspected your TW and deemed it totaled?meaning it would be more than the value of the bike to fix it.Yet it was totally fine?No damage to it?and you sold it for 4000.00.If it was totally fine why buy a new one?Not trying to be a jerk, just confused by your story.
@@j.lwinchester5788 I was already eyeballing the new color way of the 2021+. I was planning on swapping it out when dealers had inventory again before the accident. A motorcycle shop did an inspection and sent off information to the adjuster. They said their was some minor frame discrepancies and insurance usually totals bikes out when they hear frame. I bought it back to keep it because their was no reason to lose a perfectly fine bike, visually was only scratched on my aftermarket exhaust. Then I found a new one like I wanted anyways and it made sense to do the swap. I look at TW’s everyday and know values and saw a few rebuilt ones sell and knew I could swap it out for only a few hundred bucks.
Now some guy is thinking, damn this thing shreds tires all the time and handles poorly, I could've paid 1k more and got a new one, were you at least honest with the buyer that it was wrecked?
@@ThinkBeforeYouSheep ha ha did you even read my whole comment? I rode it after the accident and nothing was wrong. Alignment was fine, handling was the same, I could have never said anything and nobody would know. But I did list it as a branded title and explained what happened in the listing - I was very transparent. You couldn’t and still can’t find these bike new very easy and the guy who bought it, bought 7 other ones that same day for his family and friends for a big deer hunt. My brother-in-law just finally got his new one after 5 months of waiting and it was 6,000 OTD. That was after he talked them down from 6,500. They originally told him it would be around 5,600 OTD when he ordered it.
@@drivenauto There's two new ones sitting at the dealership down from me 5,200 OTD, been there for a week, the hype about them is starting to die down again but yeah at first you couldn't find them.
Used trailbikes are a hot item. Price Honda CT-90 , CT-70 , Yamaha DT 100 are crazy. Bought a 1975 DT 100 in good shape for a steal from my cousin. Was amazed to see them going online for 4000 plus.
That's a very valid point. It is crazy to see how much they are all going for right now! The kid sized bikes are the same! Used ones are selling for a lot more than the new bikes right now as well.
Hey Sonand! Thanks for watching and I am really glad it has helped! Have you checked out the Classifieds on Facebook? Here is the link: facebook.com/groups/357674911588248
Even if I went to Utah and the Rocky Mountain store and bought a new TW200, I would never be able to import it to Sweden due to its carburettor. I would apply for importing it, then pay an import fee, and then I'd get a "no", so I'd have the bike in storage, but it would never be legally used on the roads. I'm so depressed!
Also a new TW comes with a year warranty. Buy it a year later and you're not getting that. These bikes are a great deal new at dealer prices (though I wish they still included the kick starter.)
Yeah, and for the price of a new one over the crazy prices of the used ones it makes sense right now to get the new. I'm with you, I wish they still had the kick start as well.
Yeah I saw a 1987 TW going for over $4000 the other day. Saw another 90's model going for more than a 2021 TW I can get at a dealership. When I asked why they're asking so much, the reply was "I know what I have".
I see a 2021 with low mileage for sale for $6300. The msrp for a new one here is $5500. I realize there will be additional fees on top of the msrp, but I'll take the new one thanks.
It's funny Matt because I was just on the FB marketplace just 5 minutes ago seeing if one popped up for a good deal and I was getting pissed off seeing the prices now for a 15 year old Dub lol .
@@MOBStreet83 went good. Its all built and done. Just need to fire her ip and tune it rite. Had to dremel out half the air box to fit new carb and filter in that place, which is hidden by the side guard.
That's really hard to say what they should cost anymore. Folks are buying them up left and right and prices all over the place are high. That seems really high for me as well since I paid $5,500 for my 2021 out the door from a dealership, but that isn't the first I have heard of them being more than $7,000.
I've been looking for one for three years and couldn't find one for sale anywhere so that's something to consider ..the place where I live is only getting in two and by God I am buying one!! finally lol I'm old and my Dr650 is dangerous in these Sandhills

Nice to see how other people think about this crazy market right now. I just checked fb marketplace and it’s insane. I just sold my Honda crf 250l with all the modifications you can do on it for 1800€ and this bike was from 2015. That was in germany but what people are asking right now here in the US I haven‘t seen before.
Hey brother had to laugh at this video. I’m picking up my first TW200. It’s a brand new 2023 model. I paid $6100 but I’ve been on the waitlist for 9 months now. I live outside of Fairbanks, Alaska so the dealer only gets I believe 2 or 3 units each year. I was seventh or eighth on the list so I was not expecting a call until next year. I just agreed to buy a used ‘22 KLR650 last week that has 800 miles on it. So, I about shit myself when the dealer texted me last night and asked if I was still interested in purchasing the T-Dub. Needless to say I made a beeline to town as soon I got off from work today and put down a deposit to hold the bike. I’m a bit peeved the dealer added a $1K markup but T-Dub is mighty rare duck especially up here in Interior Alaska so the dealer can get away with it. One last note regarding used T-Dubs. They are going for more than new on FB or Craigslist. The owner of the dealership even mentioned that today. I’ve only seen two for sale in the past 18 months and both sold for almost $6K each. I believe one was a 2019 and the was an early 2000s model but it had low miles. Regardless I’m stoked to finally be getting my first T-Dub even if I paid a bit more than what I should have. I’ve actually never seen one in person since I’ve been interested in the bike until today. I really enjoy the videos and I’m learning a quite a bit from them. Keep the videos coming brother. Cheers from North Pole, Alaska! 🎅🏻🎄☃️🇺🇸
Sweet!! Congrats on getting a Tdub! I can't believe you haven't ever seen one.......that is crazy to me really. But, I am glad you were able to get one!
I just bought a 87 too! Paid $300 for it. I also own a 05 Yamaha banshee but I choose to ride the Tdub over the banshee. So that just sits in the enclosd trailer lol

I bought a 2021 on August 5th 2021 off the showroom floor $5447 total cost. Then I bought a 2013 TW200 for $4900 on August 6th 2021. It had 343 miles on it and had never been off road. It's a brand new eight year old bike. I'm completely satisfied with both purchases. The fact that the bike is infinitely rebuildable does increase the value of the bike to someone who wants an older one for whatever reason. Same with cars. I bought a 1974 VW Thing for $8,000. New in 1974 it was sold for $4,000. At the time I bought it it was valued at $12,000 in the condition it was in if you compared it to others selling on various classic VW websites but the seller only wanted eight and that's what I paid. I would have paid more. Bottom line, it's what the buyer is willing to pay. Sometimes the seller is way over the top and sometimes the buyer gets a great deal or at least exactly what they are willing to pay for something. Nobody is forcing anyone to buy anything.
True, no one is forcing anyone to buy something. The cars hold a different value though since they were only made for a certain amount of time and they have become a collectors item. The 1967 Chevelle I want to buy is going to be a lot more now than they were brand new since they don't make them any more and they are also a collectors item. The TW is still being made and nothing has changed on the bike really since 1987 so you aren't getting any different technology either. I know that each is going to ask for what they want and that is why I was trying to educate the buyer as well since I think they have the bigger influence on the market (This is all just my opinion). HOWEVER, if both buyer and seller are happy then that is what counts. Thanks for taking the time to watch and for the comment. I really appreciate it!
@@MOBStreet83 I'm new to the TW world but I've wanted one for years. The 2021 is my Wife's. She's just learning to ride. We've been watching your videos and find them useful. All good content. Keep up the good work.
It is not just sellers. A local powersports dealer here had a used 2019 with 1,700 miles they were asking $5,400 plus fees for and they sold it in less than 2 days. I feel guilty because I bought two of them this year and paid less than $5,000 for the pair.
I'm glad I was lucky enough to work with the dealers I did. In return they earned my business from then on out. Don't feel guilty, that is great you got both for what you did! Enjoy them!
Particularly with the TW it's not like Yamaha is changing it and improving it every year. So, if you can find a used one for a decent price it will have the latest Yamaha TW technology.
I sold my 2021 tdub earlier this year with 300 miles for 4500 and I thought that was a lot. People were fighting over it. it was crazy... I have another one on order because I have a crf 300L rally that I am just not as into as I was my tdub
I agree and I understand. My biggest beef with this was the fact that folks that had a 1995 TW and were asking $5k for it saying it was like new for an almost 30 year old machine was driving me nuts! That is why I bought new as well.
There’s some controversy over the break in periods. A lot of factories rev the living shit out of each motor to make sure they’re good before putting them in a bike. At least on KTMs, I wouldn’t worry too much about break on periods. Other brands, not entirely sure though.
I know that there are a lot of different break in procedures. Yamaha lays out theirs for the TW in the owners manual and it states to stay below half throttle until 600 miles and then don't hit full throttle until you're at 1,000 miles. I have broken both of mine in using two different methods and both have seemed okay so far.
@@MOBStreet83 My brain can't even fathom going 600 miles before you go over half throttle??? I'm calling Bologna On that! What do you think mob street 83?😊
Sorry dude, I totally agree, but . . . . it's supply and demand, coupled with the spoiled American "have to have it now" sentiment. My dad used to always say "It's only worth what someone is willing to pay you for it". Usually it goes the opposite direction, but not right now. Got to have it today! lol
I would check your local dealers first. I looked at used TWs (which were all $5k and up!) because I assumed based on what people were telling me that the dealer wouldn't have any new ones. Then I finally found a dealer that not only had one... They had several. I offered to put down a cash deposit over the phone to have them hold one for me and they just chuckled and told me they'd be there when I got there. Ended up buying a brand new one for what folks are asking for used ones around here and I definitely didn't get the last one.
If you don't mind me asking, what was your total tax license DMV everything out the door Price on the TW? I've been going back-and-forth Between used and New. Thank you in advance.😊
@@MOBStreet83 Hey Matt also a reminder why it's not good to buy an older use one. And that is all of them have Analog speedometers and odometers not digital. Which means you can disconnect them or wind them back or replace with a brand new OEM and nobody would know the difference. So these older ones that are 10 years old or 20 years old with only 500 miles or 1000 miles I say BS.
Oh the number of times I see something used for sale and think wow how much was it when it was new. Like you I am not paying new price for something used.
I almost bought a 1989 (Black and Red Paint Job) that was in great shape and looked as though it had been well maintained for $2,800. But I had a new one on order and I bought new instead ( As my second TW, not the first)
Hey John! I would think that isn't too bad of a price. It's a newer model with lower miles. Best of luck with it! I'd make sure to go over it thoroughly. Check all the fluids and the tires. Make sure it fires up okay so you know the fuel hasn't gummed up the carb and so on.
I've done that before as well! After buying my first one it was way easier to buy another new one.
Also because of the pandemic people .. are itching to get out of their homes.. The word adventure is something that triggers everybody's mind since they've been stuck in their homes
@@shawnscrimsher2207 That is a very valid point as well. That has had a big impact as well.
Hey Michael! Congrats on the bikes. I am glad you have found the videos useful. Here's to plenty of good times to come on the bikes!
You bet!! Thanks for watching and I hope it helps! Best of luck with the new machine and here's to many good times to come!
Getting it to snow for your video was cool. Thanks for the great videos.
Hey Bob! Yeah, it turned out pretty cool! Thanks for watching and hanging around the channel, I appreciate it!
I bought a brand-new, 2023 today-the used TWs online were almost same as new. It was on the showroom floor and had 7/10 of a mile on it. This video pushed me off the fence and I decided on new. Thanks Man!
AWESOME!! Yeah, the used prices are driving me nuts as well. I bought both of mine new also. Enjoy it!
I’d rather pay for dealership fees than somebody’s problems With warranties.
I think if buyers have a bit of patience and wait a bit it'll help bring used prices down. But, until then I will continue to buy new.
I love this video.
I scream this all the time.
People are loopy. The prices are out of this world.
I see people asking higher than retail because they want all their dealership fees abs taxes back.
I will NOT pay it. I will buy new!
Thank you for putting this out there. Maybe it will wake a few people up.
Hey Greg! Thanks for the comment. It's been hit and miss with people so far so I hope I was wording it correctly. Thanks for taking the time to watch!
Good points! Thanks
Here we are six months later and it appears the used car and motorcycle market is finally beginning to soften
Thanks Heinz! Yeah, I am starting to see a lot of used ones for sale and folks are showing that the ones that ordered are coming in.
So with prices coming down now, I think used is the way to go. 3k price range seems the usual around here, and these aren't meant to be beauty queens, they're farm bikes. Thoughts?
Yeah, if you want to that is a good way to go. If prices were like that I would've bought used too.
Good fun video and good advice. Here in the UK all used bikes are 30% to 50% more than before Covid and shortage of some new bikes.
Yeah, it's the same scenario over here! I tried to help knowing that both side of the table would show up to this.
Well said MOBSTREET😤😤😤
Thanks, I had to vent a bit! 😂
Look at all that snow coming down. I bet those bikes are going to be a blast for riding in the snow.
I never put them away last year! I was riding in the snow and pulling the kids on the sleds or tube when I could. They are a good time all year round.
Great vid Matt..👍👍👍
Little early for snow.
Yep, that's about the gist of it! That's what our market out here is like as well.
You are so right!
Thanks! I am glad you liked it!
@@MOBStreet83 Thanks Matt, I really do appreciate the advice and the Honesty you put forth. I will stay in touch and continue to support your efforts.

New prices are coming down thankfully. I'm buying a new one (2024) tomorrow for $4,495 with no hidden costs. At a Yamaha dealership. Used in my area they are still over $5,000. So it is literally cheaper to buy a new one?
Sweet!! That is one of the lowest prices I have heard so far! Yeah, I'd buy new also!

@@MOBStreet83 when I watches videos on how the young dudes and gals treat their bikes I think I’m good I’m buying new. My dad despises car dealers but says I would recommend going to a motorcycle dealer
Hi Matt,
We just bought our first new 2022 TW 200 from a dealer.
It makes a lot of sense the way you expressed it. Unfortunately, the used sellers think their TW as an investment rather than a used motorcycle...
Yep, that's the truth!
You are right, the TW does hold its value in a used market but not to the point of it still being new. A similar bike used could sell for $2000 but a TW of the same could be worth $2500, because the TW is known for its reliability and has been the same build for many years only improving on its build rather than making a bunch of changes to it.
That is what I thought as well. It isn't like you're buying a bunch of new technology with them as the years go on!
Matt is my go too guy for anything TW
Thanks Mike!!
Right on, brother!!
Thanks Ian! I appreciate it.
Dude is that snow? Makes me shiver watching it.
Yep, it started coming down and got really cold.
I live in Alaska its different here...I buy new. Snowmobiles, quads, bikes all hold there value here and many people ask and get close to new prices. As far as dealership fees, that's shipping and here it's not just tws.....
It's getting that way here in Utah as well.
I recently saw a 2017 listed for $4000. I was thinking that it might be best to just go ahead and buy new. I then would KNOW that it had been broken in correctly! Good video!
Thanks Jason! That is why I also went with new bikes!
Thanks. Convinced me to buy new.
Thanks again.
what part of Utah do you live? Ever ride the TDub on the Paiute Trail?
I'm in Central Utah. I haven't ridden the Paiute trail yet but would love to get down there. Have you ridden that one?
@@MOBStreet83 yeah, I am in Florida . went out there in 2007 and in 2018 for the atv jamboree in Richfield. Planning on coming back with the tdubs soon.
I found a 2000 TW200 for $1500. Bought it on the spot runs and looks great all original. Tread is good but now 22 years old so getting new tubes and tires. Did I get a good deal?
That is the kind of deal we are all looking for! Tubes are tires aren't very expensive for that bike. I think you made out great with that purchase.
Know a gentleman who purchased a 08 for about 3k, but I was a bit rusty and needed new tires. I think I'd rather buy new than used myself.
If I knew the history or felt as though the seller was being honest with me, I'd be more considerate of buying used. But, I have been happy with new and now I know what has been done to the bike and what they have been through. Thanks for the comment!
I agree completely with you. The used prices make no sense at all,
Folks need to remember that it is no longer a brand new bike.
That's a really good to way to look at it all. Tires and service has been what I have seen the most.
I love my TW200 just as much as everyone else, but how can you justify selling a used TW for more than what the dealers are selling them for?
Supply and demand.
Agreed, literally no reason to not get a new one. Unless you're looking for a certain color scheme from a specific year.
I don't see myself ever selling mine though, so I'm not worried about resale.
Yeah you are right I think like you stay cool
Thanks, I appreciate it!
Thanks, was on the fence also .My main reason for new is safety , do not know what has been done before especially the tires, brakes etc etc. sure it will cost more but worth it to me.
It won't cost you much more if at all really. The used bikes are selling just as much as the new since the new are taking so long to get here.
🍻 cheer. Keep up the good work
Thanks Anthony!! Tell your son congrats on the new bike!
Good stuff Matt!!!😎👍🏼 Things are not always what they seem!
Thanks my friend!! No, they are not. I agree with you there!
Thank you I’m buying brand new just because of this
You bet! I would have bought used, but with these prices I bought new, Twice.
Yep David! I completely agree.
I feel the same way. People are asking and paying way to much for a used tw.
I understand supply and demand but I still can't believe some of the prices folks are asking for them.
I finally scraped together the fundage to pay cash at the dealer, can't wait. It was in there yesterday so I hope it didn't get sold
SWEET!! Congrats James! did you get it then?
ABSOLUTELY 💯
Thanks!
This video helped me so much thanks. Now I have to find one.
I wonder if there is an EFI kit that you could retrofit to the TW? Maybe something similar to the XT250?
@@MOBStreet83 That would be super it there was such a kit. So people actually did that with a XT250?
Great Content Bro !!!
Thanks! I am really glad you like it. Thanks for watching and for the comment.
So what is a good price for a used TW200 that has been well maintained and garage kept? 1500k miles on a 2014?
I'm seeing them go for $4-$5k right now.
Well spoken Sir
Thank You!!
Yeah I saw a 1987 TW going for over $4000 the other day. Saw another 90's model going for more than a 2021 TW I can get at a dealership. When I asked why they're asking so much, the reply was "I know what I have".
I know what have as well. That is something that I just don't fathom right now.
I see a 2021 with low mileage for sale for $6300. The msrp for a new one here is $5500. I realize there will be additional fees on top of the msrp, but I'll take the new one thanks.
Yep! There is a 2008 here in our local listings that I am very familiar with........they are asking $5,900 for it.
You can ask for any amount you want. The buyer's market determines how much you actually have to pay.
👍
I’m almost on the same boat! The more and more I look, I feel like I might as well go the new route because used prices are insane.
Yeah they are! Folks are asking a pretty penny for them for sure! I bought two new ones for that reason and I have been very happy with them.
It's funny Matt because I was just on the FB marketplace just 5 minutes ago seeing if one popped up for a good deal and I was getting pissed off seeing the prices now for a 15 year old Dub lol .
I did the same thing! Lookin' through the classifieds and felt the same.
100% correct.
Thanks! I appreciate you taking the time to watch.
Got a 24 last week. Have big bore exhaust and more goodies on the way to tinker withhhhhh🎉
Nice!! Congrats on the new bike. Let me know how it all goes!
@@MOBStreet83 went good. Its all built and done. Just need to fire her ip and tune it rite. Had to dremel out half the air box to fit new carb and filter in that place, which is hidden by the side guard.
Sweet!!! Hopefully it all goes good
What should be paid for a tw200 our the door my local place MSRP is 4799 but after all the marks ups and fees around 7200 sounds steep?
That's really hard to say what they should cost anymore. Folks are buying them up left and right and prices all over the place are high. That seems really high for me as well since I paid $5,500 for my 2021 out the door from a dealership, but that isn't the first I have heard of them being more than $7,000.
I've been looking for one for three years and couldn't find one for sale anywhere so that's something to consider ..the place where I live is only getting in two and by God I am buying one!! finally lol I'm old and my Dr650 is dangerous in these Sandhills
Did you get one of them?!?
@@MOBStreet83 Yes Sir!... I thought about buying both but then remembered how I felt when I couldn't find one so I'll let someone else get it. It will be there in couple weeks. So I'm getting my DR650 ready for sale. 2016 with only 1400 miles on her
I bought a used tw with 35 miles on it . 2021 for 4500. A great deal
Saved exorbitant dealership fees.
That doesn't sound like a bad deal at all! Good find!
@@MOBStreet83 yes, I'm happy.it was a very good deal
Nice to see how other people think about this crazy market right now. I just checked fb marketplace and it’s insane. I just sold my Honda crf 250l with all the modifications you can do on it for 1800€ and this bike was from 2015. That was in germany but what people are asking right now here in the US I haven‘t seen before.
Thanks Marv! Obviously I wasn't the biggest fan of the price jump either! 😂
couldn't agree more.
Thanks Wolram!
Well said sir .
Thanks Jim! I appreciate it.
Exactly man. I was planning to buy a tdubs, but they want more than I paid for my DRZ lol. I’ll wait or buy new.
That was really the main reason I bought new.......Twice! I would've been happy with a good used one but they were only a few hundred less than new.
I just bought an 87' for $600. Less than 3000 miles. Needs some TLC but saved a huge amount of money and I'm going to upgrade some things anyway.
I would have bought that also! Good find!
I just bought a 87 too! Paid $300 for it. I also own a 05 Yamaha banshee but I choose to ride the Tdub over the banshee. So that just sits in the enclosd trailer lol
@@mattgehrke I gotta keep my eyes open then! That's the best pricing I've heard on any TW in who knows how long! Nice work!
@@MOBStreet83 I didn't think it was a bad deal. Had to track down a new carb for it. Guy who had it before me broke the little perch where the float pin goes in
I would've jumped at it as well. Were you able to get the carb?
I’m feeling better about my 2012 that I just bought for $2500 from a kid who was using it to go to college for the last year.
I would for sure!
Enjoy them!
These prices are a testament to the desire for these bikes. So why not make more like it? A TW250 so forth and so on.?
Well said and good point!
Particularly with the TW it's not like Yamaha is changing it and improving it every year. So, if you can find a used one for a decent price it will have the latest Yamaha TW technology.
Exactly!! That is one other point I was trying to make. Thanks for pointing that out!
I sold my 2021 tdub earlier this year with 300 miles for 4500 and I thought that was a lot. People were fighting over it. it was crazy... I have another one on order because I have a crf 300L rally that I am just not as into as I was my tdub
That's crazy! I would pay that for a 2021 right now as well. I have seen some going for more than $6,000 right now!
Oh yeah, maybe. I just did a hard pass on a dealer quote of $6200.
Yeah, I have seen the used ones going for more than that here in Utah. The most I have seen so far for used is $8,000!
Market Value! They are worth what people are willing to pay! That being said, this is why I bought New.
I agree and I understand. My biggest beef with this was the fact that folks that had a 1995 TW and were asking $5k for it saying it was like new for an almost 30 year old machine was driving me nuts! That is why I bought new as well.
Are they still making them in 2023?
So far! I've got one on order and they haven't told me that they aren't coming in.
I’m looking at a used 2019, 6000kms the gas tank has a dent rest of the bike looks decent. Is that a fair price?
It’s got the front and back rack, hand guards and aluminum skid plate
Here I’m Ontario I was quoted 6800 new. So he wants 4000$
Got to have it today! lol
Understood completely! I'm usually on the other side of the scale.
@@MOBStreet83 great video though! Thanks!!
well said and thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You bet! Thank You!
I'm glad they had a bunch of them! I was on a waiting list for one and my father in law was on the list for 6 months before his came in.
@@MOBStreet83 Yikes... Worth either waiting or goin out of town/state though. No bike out there quite like a TW!
If you don't mind me asking, what was your total tax license DMV everything out the door Price on the TW? I've been going back-and-forth Between used and New.
Thank you in advance.😊
Heading out right now To the desert to go riding, That's what I'm talking about!
It's snowing here. Not that I haven't ridden in the snow, It's just really windy and cold as well. Safe riding!
Yeah, pretty crazy prices right now for the used ones! I am on the list for a new 2023 and it'll be less than the used ones.
Bought a 2004 TW from a private individual for $2,800. 600 miles on it. 3 months ago
I almost bought a 1989 (Black and Red Paint Job) that was in great shape and looked as though it had been well maintained for $2,800. But I had a new one on order and I bought new instead ( As my second TW, not the first)
Would you buy a 2017 tw200 with 350 miles on it for 4000$? Please let me know I’m supposed to go get it tomorrow
Hey John! I would think that isn't too bad of a price. It's a newer model with lower miles. Best of luck with it! I'd make sure to go over it thoroughly. Check all the fluids and the tires. Make sure it fires up okay so you know the fuel hasn't gummed up the carb and so on.
I have an 87 with 5400 miles, and a "Kick Start".
I wonder what It would go for!
Good question Terry! There's only one way to find out. 😀
@@MOBStreet83 No there's not, I'm keeping it!😁
