Classic Car and Truck Junkyard Tour. Which Vehicle Should We Rescue?

  • Hi folks. I went out to a couple junkyards today looking for parts for an upcoming top secret project, so I figured I'd take the camera along and do a quick tour. Both yards have a good selection of cars and trucks from the 1920's up to the 1970's. Long story short, I found a vehicle so pathetic that I had to rescue it! More metalwork videos to come, but I thought it would be fun to take a break from that to check out some of the old tin we have laying around in Saskatchewan.

    You showed the glass, so my guess is one of the late 40’s/early 50’s Chubby 5 window pickups. Personally, I’d have gone home with the cab and front clip of the Green 53 Ford at 12:00 and the white Merc COE right after. The Second yard had way too many cool ones to list, but a lot of them looked really rough for me to tackle.
    Edit: I guess my guess was late. I’m catching up on videos and see you posted the next video already. Lmao

    Here in the UK we don't really have the space for those big walk around scrap yards. Most cars are piled on top of one another and crushed fairly quickly before the yard gets full. I quite liked that blue Studebaker Champion? It looked complete and there is not too much brightwork on it so that will reduce the cost of restoration. Also that 6 banger you have would fit nicely. A man of your tin bashing talents won't be put off by a little tin worm.

    • @CarterAutoRestyling

      The Stude was cool, unfortunately the forklift damage would greatly increase the cost of restoration.

    With every single car I saw, I heard a little voice in my head that said, "a guy could fix that up" Which proves how sick I am. So with that in mind I am unqualified to guess which piece of garbage you fell in love with. I also realized how unfair life is that all my local junk yards like that are gone.

We don't have much in the way of junk yards like that in the California foothills where I live, but we do have lots and lots of older guys who have cherried-out antique cars with expensive paint jobs, nice upholstery, tricked-out engines -- the whole bit -- tucked away here. Quite a bit of money gets spent on these cars.

Which is odd, since he was asking arms, legs, and organ donations for every heap on the lot. There was a Studebaker ute that looked a likely candidate for revival, but my heart wasn’t in it.

    Now those yards are great for picking! Saw quite a few I wouldn’t mind having because a guy could save them no problem as long as there’s one solid piece. 😂 Down here in Arkansas USA most people were poor and would end up scrapping a lot of vintage tin. So classic car graveyards are few. That’s why dad and I are making our own to our family’s disappointment. 😂 I couldn’t even guess on which one you would’ve picked up. The few that stood out to me was the 1960ish mercury m100 (USA didn’t sell them here, although one or two do pop up), the Oldsmobile Toronado because who doesn’t like old school front wheel drive, the 1938/39 ford truck, and just any of the random late 40’s early 50’s f1s. Any way it goes, I’m excited to see what you snagged up!

    • @CarterAutoRestyling
      @CarterAutoRestyling  2 года назад +1

      That's awesome your making your own car graveyard! This part of the world was hit hard during the depression so people never threw anything away and the thrifty mentality got passed down through the generations. It's not uncommon to find 50s and 60s trucks still being used on farms.

    • @alexhickey8869
      @alexhickey8869 2 года назад +1

      @@CarterAutoRestyling No doubt! I still see some 70’s/80’s trucks being used on farms in my area, but for some odd reason people like to buy $90,000 tin metal trucks to show off what they don’t own. 😂 And thank you for supporting my own poor decision making! Vintage tin is getting harder to find, so collecting when I can is a fun challenge. Fixing them on the other hand is going to be way more fun. 😁
