Manuel Solis I put some saliva and it works again every time.
when masking the door handle holes with the foam tape. Face the sticky side out so it will stick inside the hole and not fall in or out.
@@manuelsolis738 fr they waste alot of tape i do other techniques
These are great reminders and updates to what's happening now as apposed to 25 30 years ago. So I'm glad you're making these videos. Thanks.
Hey Brian I’m glad I found this. I’ve been watching your videos for the last 4 jobs I’ve done (I’m not professional; we own a small dealership and I do all of our own work) and my last job - new hood on a Pearl red CRV - was virtually undetectable. Confidence has gone from 0 to 95% in those 4 jobs. The is hood was ruined by stone chips left unchecked. The customer who bought it was very happy (I disclosed the hood replacement of course). I really appreciate your approach. And it helps seeing you work on $40-160,000 cars hahaha. This was great; I’ve been wondering how you mask so neatly.I’ve said it before and I will again: yes you’re an industry benchmark if a painter, but you’re also a gifted teacher. Thanks man
It's important on many of those plastic sheets that you can't put them on upside down. The up side is designed to hold onto paint and overspray. On many brands the underside can collect paint but it flecks off from air (like your spray gun air) and will put bits into your fresh paint.
Exactly. The plastic I use has a shiny side and a dull side. The dull side needs to go out and will hold onto paint. The shiny side will allow paint to flake off and fall into your paint job.
Great tutorial. I can't get over the time you are spending to show us new bees the proper way to tape. Thank you ever so much!
Yes. You are my audience and it’s my duty to bring you good content to learn.
great video another tip is when cutting the plastic off of the backtape start at the bottom and work upwards so the plastic doesnt fall getting in the way.
Great teaching method for all the newies in that field.Keep going ,you are a great man with a big hearth to show and share your magic secret tricks .It is so interesting to be watched all the way you do it dude !!!Be blessed.
Cool Brian. Nice masking job. I’m a house painted and it took a few years to learn to mask effectively and efficiently. Cheers
You guys made it easier for me to understand. Thanks a bunch
Scotch tape part number 2097 is the greatest tape for masking off a car. It tears easier when done quickly it flexes beautifully, it sticks much better, when you pull it off it will not break etc etc I ordered it by mistake didn't like the way it tore until I figured out how to do it now I absolutely love it... Just masked off painted and removed on a Land cruiser I just did and now I am in love
Thanks to you guys and this Chanel I've been doing my own paint repairs. No more $1000+ body/automotive paint shop visits
That is awesome!
Brian I like how you don't waste words in your video's! You obviously know what you're talking about! Thanks for sharing your knowledge!
Hi Brian, one thing I noticed is b4 you backmask the perimeter of the door is to mask the opens of the door handle. To prevent overspray enter the cabin. As a certified journeymen refinished you do an excellent job with your videos.
since the dah i watch your video i keep watching it because i learned a lot from tips to tricks. good job dude
I'm trying to paint my 1990 f150 but I always mess up the masking. Luckily I found this video. It will be used as reference on my path. Thank you

Thank you man, I'm a spray painting apprentice so you're videos are super helpful without being overwhelming.
The ending was on point.. it’s just paint don’t over think it! Well put sir! Happy New Years
It’s my new phrase! I have it on all my shirts I’m selling and stickers! Trying to calm the nerves of many in the booth!
The shop I’m at sprays spies Hecker and we recently got another painter and it seems like I spend a lot of time retraining a painter with 20yrs of habits. So I try to let him not to over think things cause like u say it’s only paint..
Gday Brian, thanks for all the great videos.. After watching most of them on paint preperation, sanding and rattle can painting for the past 4 days I will attempt to paint the back of my 1972 Mini..
Good morning Bryan, lots of Tricks, tips, and techniques. I always learn something new from the intelligent videos. I would offer one of my techniques. I always warm my tape in an old microwave that I have in the paint mixing room, for about 15 to 20 seconds. It does wonders for tape to bend around difficult shapes. I like to chase the moisture from the tape surfaces with a heat gun, it really helps the tape adhere much better. Just my 2 cents worth. Thanks for the great video, you take care and Happy New Year.
Love the tip. Who would have thought? I’m going to try it out and next time I do a video using tape, I will mention and share your tip. Happy new year Steve and thanks again for being a part of the paint society!
I just started in a body shop and I am terribly slow at it lol will be watching more
Great job showing me a new method
Bryan, nice tech, learning something every day
Awesome!!
Great instructions
Keep them videos going!!!!
Great video!
Thanks to you I own my body shop now!
Tremendous video.
Brian, thanks for the information just on a subject as simple as taping, now Aug. 2020, I still enjoy learning. Question: the plastic used matters from what I can tell. I have heard other painters claim certain plastics can let chunks fly off which can land in your paint. Is this one of those where you should stay with a name brand? I have seen the name brand brand product used right up to the paint line, but cheaper “Plastic is Plastic” is placed away from direct paint line and taped off to avoid overspray. Example; 1967 C10 truck with white top and later, re-tape to finish other panels.
I apologize for not keeping up, but went in for L2-L3 Lumbar fusion and came out with all fused down to include the “S1” or tail bone and binge watching my favorite professional channels.

You should do masking videos for difficult parts as well, like roofs etc.
Love your videos! You explain and show everything so well
Yessss, I can do about everything but I struggle with masking lol
Roof is literally the easiest thing you could ever tape off. It's a rectangle. You should probably just stay away from this trade.
Nice job nice tutorial! Love your video. Happy new year from italy 👋👋👋
Hey! I’m Italian too! Want to visit
hey well! you are welcome. if you decide to come, let me know
Awesome!!
Denatured alcohol in a pump sprayer, mist the plastic ( booth off ) to de ionize the air and remove the ability to hold a static charge. Your detailer will thank you for it.
Anywhere basecoat is with in 6" of plastic, I recommend paper to keep the basecoat from seeding. Edge where fender meets the door, 2" tape attached to foam so when you close the door you can stuff it in the crack to keep base/clear from inside the door jam. Being nit picky but if you're doing work on a new car lot damage repair ( more common then you might think ) they won't be bitching about the overspray on the rubber.
Great video !! The best painters were once the best preppers. A monkey can hold a pattern.
Guess who the retailer is ? You’re talking to him. We are a very very very small jobs. And we are combo men so those tips help. That plastic really creates static.
you do great work dude👍💯
Thanks for your positive vibe!!!
As always, I love your videos! But Just as a suggestion tho.....I use tinfoil for awkward holes and shapes! It stays where you want it and easy to remove! And cheap! 👍
Thank you! Next time in Walmart. I’ll grab some and try.
We use a very similar priduct to the tape caddy when Tying rebar, its called a wire reel pack. It sure makes life easy.
I use rebar in the body filler; for extra strength.
Very very instructive, retired master carpenter trying to learn new trade at 70.
Donald that’s awesome. Never too late!
Hello good morning and am super excited about ur videos and am a beginner and i want to start painting
So i would just like to ask u what are the basics that i should focus on
Thanks
Hi Brian,I'm a big fan of your channel,I have learned alot from watching your videos.
My question is what is your impression of the harbor freight black widow 1.3mm paint gun?
Thank you, brother, on a beautiful channel. I am Adel from Morocco. I want to know masking 🇲🇦🇩🇪👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Hope it helped!!
Thank you ser
Good stufff!!!!!!
Is this your own shop Brian? If so you are doing an awesome job you should be proud ☺️
Thank from down under Brian

Yes back to front it only took me 25 years to figure that out
Super Thank you)))
Hey Brian. Great videos. You should do a video on cleaning spray guns and product to clean and storage.
It’s coming!!
USC plastic is very good as well!
Nice video..👍 Succes for the channel and career in 2020
Thank you!!!
Something about a man hard at work & good at what he does. 🤪
Anywayssss, thanks for the info! ❤
Hey mate really like the way you explain everything so properly.
You really good. Respect your skills you got. Inside the drive door ,you can use the masking
paper (with the tape,),so that don’t get over spray and save the tape .thank you
Nice video brother Happy New Year to you and yours
Thanks! And I still owe you that video! Haven’t forgotten
@@PaintSociety sounds good brother
Hey Brian, just a thought here; instead of using a screwdriver to push the tape into a space (time - 9:23) I'd suggest a plastic putty knife $0.98 or
Thanks John! Good idea so paint doesn’t get scratched
5:03 - Starts the masking
i like the way he said dont over think it its just a paint 😁😁😁
This is just watching artists at work!
Thank you very much🇲🇦🇩🇪👍👍👍👍👍👍👍🇧🇪
I put my first coat of finish coat on today and had a system failure, so I have to put the final coat on tomorrow when compressor is fixed, is there something I need to do sense it is set completely compared to painting on wet or flashed paint, tks
Hello Bryan been watching your videos for about a month so far.
Question .. what kind of plastic do you use. Homedepot plastic is smaller an paint drys too quickly and make a mess when painting clear coat
Why do you back mask the rear door edge but not the front door leading edge? Also how would you tape off around the A-pillar and the windshield for painting the A-pillar?
I have a question I have a 1999 ram dually and fixing the fender made from polyurea tried the plastic staple s.. didn't stick to polyurea what can I use that will bond to polyurea fenders
Brian why don’t you need to use sponge tape for the front edge of the front door? Won’t overspray get in the gap with back masking only on the fender edge??
Like it.
Hi Brain, still can’t get the tape thing caddy shipped to me in uk. Any way love all your vids keep up the good work. Watching you inspired me to take up spraying and know I do it for a living so thanks. Alan
Maybe send them a message and they can help you guys out?
Wish I could give this video more likes!
Try Indasa red also curve very well :
Indasa red tapINDASA MTE-RED HIGH TEMPERATIRE PERFORMANCE MASKING TAPE
Hi Brian,
How long after spraying do you remove the tape..
This is what needs to be taught in school
Awe....some!
Thanks for another great video Brian, just wondering at what point after you have finished painting the job would you remove the masking tape and plastic.
Once it is dry and only when it’s dry unless you have tape on a molding very close to the the paint
@@PaintSociety thank you for the reply, I've never been sure in the past, tried to get it off too soon thinking it would be better.
Do you put a six paper in between the doors or just tape
Does anyone have links to the yellow 3m paint they used and the masking plastic?
Hello Brain can i spray stabilizer on a hood it is a silver hood to provite clouds.
We no longer use plastic sheeting, spray masking works very well for us and cuts down on waste, yields no over spray getting on opposite panels and glass...just what works for us. That being said your masking is very good.
Spray mask is great just a bit pricey and we aren’t a high production shop. But yes good tip!!
Yeah I get it I buy a budget 5 gallon jug for like 50 bucks and it functions so much better than "Slime" that's 30 bucks a gallon. Keep up the great work sir!
Joe Persad thanks for watching and being positive !
