    This video is still very relevant in 2023! 30mins into using this recommended fix and I can feel the difference without the usual speaker rubbing against my left ear problem. Thanks for sharing man!

      I'm really glad it has helped. A shame Sony have not made the original ear pads deeper

    out of the two solutions (the other one being removing the foam undearneath) I think this is the most clever one

      Hi Film. Thank you. They were only a few weeks old and I really didnt fancy breaking something so I thought what else can be done and this video is the result.

    Thanks for this video, I've seen some other tutorials on youtube that involve replacing/cutting up the earpads, this is so much simpler and I think a better solution. I wish I had thought of it!

      Thanks Wayne, I saw exactly the same videos and thought I am probably not the only person who wants an easier solution. Glad I could help.

    Just did this to my JBL's with cotton wicks
    Works like a charm thanks!
    (I might try some other material later)

    Such a good fix. Not sure why they didn't use thicker pads from the beginning. This is great though. Even improves the soundstage. Personally my head isn't particularly big so I didn't find them too tight after. I used 9mm foam tubing from amazon.

      I am pleased it helped. I cant believe they didnt use really deep pads because they are always comfortable.

    How is ANC performance/passive isolation with this modification? Whenever I move earcups slightly away from my ear/head I can immediately hear some outside sounds due to sound leakage so I am afraid it might be worse.

    • @CavemanAston
      @CavemanAston  2 года назад +1

      Hi,
      I believe the reason you normally start hearing outside sound is because the earcups make as much of a sound tight seal as possible so as you remove pressure they lose that seal they have made.
      Because my idea just adds space but maintains the pressure the seal is not broken and I was unable to detect any difference in sound / ANC.

    • @user-gi5ok
      @user-gi5ok 2 года назад

      You're right, passive isolation seems to be the same. Your fix also works which is great considering how simple it is. However, the clamping force is still pretty high and causes some discomfort, even in the jaw area. Do you have any ideas how to alleviate that? I tried leaving them stretched on a couple of books for a night or two but it didn't do much.

    • @CavemanAston
      @CavemanAston  2 года назад

      @@user-gi5ok I had the same issue with tightness as well oddly enough. The reason its so tight is to make sure the cups are tight and dont let sound in.
      I also tried leaving them stretched which didnt work because inside the headband is a thin(ish) metal strip (google "metal headphone headband" to get an idea) so I used my hands and gripped the headband with both hands as close as possible and bent a very small amount with my thumbs.
      I cant say I recomend it as you will never be able to get the bend back out but I risked it and find it better. But the headphones do now tend to fall off if I am doing gardening and bend forward (cutting the grass and go to tack the grass box off to empty it).

    Only my one side ear is paining but right ear is fine. Can you tell me the reason. I wear specs

    • @CavemanAston
      @CavemanAston  3 года назад

      Hi Techs Of Arpit, I cant say for sure but most people have variation in size and shape of body parts so it could be as simple as one ear is larger or just sits flatter to your head than the other. Or one ear is just more sensitive.
      If you are worried about the glasses causing any pain try listening to the headphones without the glasses on and see if you still get the pain.

    I wanted to change the ear pads for a while but i was afraid of damaging the headphones. This is so clever. Can i have the link for the silicone please? I live in UK so i am not sure where i can purchase them. If you have links for Amazon that would be great too. Thank you!

    • @CavemanAston
      @CavemanAston  Год назад

      I'm glad you like the idea. Here is an eBay link www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2334524.m570.l1313&_nkw=neoprene+foam+cord&_sacat=0&LH_TitleDesc=0&_odkw=round+neoprene+foam+cord&_osacat=0 as the exact listing I used has gone. But if Amazon is your preferred choice try searching for 6mm neoprene cord.
      Thanks

      @@CavemanAston Well, i actually found some neoprene cords in my dad's garage but they're are either 8 or 9 mm. Would that be a problem?

    • @CavemanAston
      @CavemanAston  Год назад

      they might be a little big but it's down to personal preference. give it a try and see how it feels. if they are big you could try cutting in half down the centre so you have two semicircles and use those. let me know how you get on!

      I cannot remember the exact ones I purchased but here is a general link. I probably got 5mm if I dont mention in the video. (Its been a while).

    Do you think this would work on the XM2's as well? Just bought them and they are very uncomfortable....the earcup opening is smaller as well so my big ears won't fit in it well enough :( Wish I could fit the XM3's earcup on it....

      I sold the sony xm4 and got the Bose q35. I forget I have them on my head.

    • @CavemanAston
      @CavemanAston  2 года назад +1

      Hi Sztomi90,
      I am sorry to hear that. I dont see why it wont work on any headphone earcups as long as they have space to tuck the foam into.
      I have hear a lot of good things about the Bose lineup with regards to comfort as VadVoci has mentioned (above / below this comment).

    Does this allow for your ear to feel cooler, I heard of people having their ears feel hot after a long tjme with headphones in, due to how tight of a seal the headphones must have for the passive noice cancellation

      Hi Benito's,
      This didn't make any difference that I noticed to the heat. Sorry.
