    The front scale fitment is very neat indeed. WARCO fit this scale at the rear which is what I was planning to do. Except the read head was going to be a pain. The Y scale as has been pointed out is upside down. You have to use a jigsaw of L brackets to reach around the scale to clamp onto the read head. Luckily I have a wm14 mill with a WARCO fitted DRO as a guide. My new mill is a WM16B which is almost but not quite the same as yours.

    A little late but somebody might benefit from my comment. Wusthof (and Henckels) have a very good warranty on their upper end lines. Those black (and white) plastic handles from the 1970s and up did degrade over time and as long as there's no *obvious* user error in the damage those knives are replaced by the companies through their warranty. Just be aware that the 'exact' same knife model may no longer be in stock so you might get a similar, more recent model.

    Don't buy this Chinese bucket, all Nilfisk vacuum cleaners are made in China, you won't find better parts anywhere. The Makita VC2512L vacuum cleaner is the same inside as its twin brothers, but you won’t find spare parts. And there are many workshops, the same number I have come across in each Makita, where you can find everything down to the smallest detail; Nilfisk side clip is broken and nowhere to be found.

      @CavemanAston Год назад

      I built the bench myself for it eventual home. I got some 40mm steel box section and welded it together using the chiptray to align the holes for mounting. Basically built the table upside down starting with the chiptray, table cross sections then added the legs. I built the table the same size as the chip tray about 500mm or 600mm square and its very sturdy and no signs of tipping even with a heavy rotary table on the end of the bed at full extension. can always fill the legs with sand if you want some extra mass.

My aim was to cover areas not always covered by online informtion. I am reluctant to do any comparisons to other brands without having tested them myself. As for spares // service I know Nilfisk make very industrial equipment and have done for a number of years so getting hold of parts is less likely a problem compared to cheaper alternatives. • @CavemanAston
      @CavemanAston 2 года назад

      Hi PirateSteve11, good question. I cannot remember my exact thinking at the time but I think the general reasons were that dedicated equipment works better and is more accurate. I don't think I am even remotely close to professional but in professional workshops they have dedicated lathe and mills not adapters. I also had the space for both fortunately, so if you are limited and want both it's a great solution.

    Hi Caveman. I like the way you managed to fit the scales and readout without having to drill holes in your machine. I fitted a very similar one to my mill (also very similar} about 9 months ago and the video has been surprisingly successful. I think you did a much better job of explaining all your decisions and what you were doing better than I did. A couple of things caught my eye, the little red brackets on the read heads are transit brackets and should be removed once fitted. Also, I think you should take another look at your y axis scale and see if you can turn it the other way up, I don't think those lip seals will keep the swarf out for long looking up at it. I got a Chinese manual with mine, so have managed to find the English version. If you need a copy, let me know.

      Hi @ollysworkshop Thanks for the comment. I left the bracket in the video because I was still taking the scale on and off between shots but they are off now (pretty sure I remembered to take them off) and I have covered the Y axis with some rubber sheet stuff that keeps it free of mess but did that after the video. So far it has all been pretty easy and straight forward but thank for the offer.

    Do you think this would work on the XM2's as well? Just bought them and they are very uncomfortable....the earcup opening is smaller as well so my big ears won't fit in it well enough :( Wish I could fit the XM3's earcup on it....

      I sold the sony xm4 and got the Bose q35. I forget I have them on my head.

      Hi Sztomi90, I am sorry to hear that. I dont see why it wont work on any headphone earcups as long as they have space to tuck the foam into. I have hear a lot of good things about the Bose lineup with regards to comfort as VadVoci has mentioned (above / below this comment).

    How is ANC performance/passive isolation with this modification? Whenever I move earcups slightly away from my ear/head I can immediately hear some outside sounds due to sound leakage so I am afraid it might be worse.

    • @CavemanAston
      @CavemanAston 2 года назад

      Hi, I believe the reason you normally start hearing outside sound is because the earcups make as much of a sound tight seal as possible so as you remove pressure they lose that seal they have made. Because my idea just adds space but maintains the pressure the seal is not broken and I was unable to detect any difference in sound / ANC.

    • @user-gi5ok
      @user-gi5ok 2 года назад

      You're right, passive isolation seems to be the same. Your fix also works which is great considering how simple it is. However, the clamping force is still pretty high and causes some discomfort, even in the jaw area. Do you have any ideas how to alleviate that? I tried leaving them stretched on a couple of books for a night or two but it didn't do much.

    • @CavemanAston
      @CavemanAston 2 года назад

      @@user-gi5ok I had the same issue with tightness as well oddly enough. The reason its so tight is to make sure the cups are tight and dont let sound in. I also tried leaving them stretched which didnt work because inside the headband is a thin(ish) metal strip (google "metal headphone headband" to get an idea) so I used my hands and gripped the headband with both hands as close as possible and bent a very small amount with my thumbs. I cant say I recomend it as you will never be able to get the bend back out but I risked it and find it better. But the headphones do now tend to fall off if I am doing gardening and bend forward (cutting the grass and go to tack the grass box off to empty it).

    You could try kiln dried Play Sand or Block Paving Sand. Available at most DIY stores. Cheap as chips. Great project. Well done 👏👏👍😀

      Thanks Andrew, I have some Dustin carbide stuff arriving so I'm going to try that first but I'll try the other stuff at a later date and post an update. Thanks 👍

    Your steel mill stand is basically a big tuning fork. It might help to bolt a big panel of heavy wood on the back of the rear legs, to dampen vibration in the left-right plane. 🙂

      @CavemanAston 2 года назад

      Thanks for the great suggestion @Wiz Rom. I had probably planned to fill the legs with sand to add mass but never got around to it but a word panel would also stop swarf covering the shelves I have installed. I'll see if I have any word to try it out. Thanks

    Thanks for this video, I've seen some other tutorials on youtube that involve replacing/cutting up the earpads, this is so much simpler and I think a better solution. I wish I had thought of it!

      Hi SteveD thank you. That was the plan mainly to help me continue being lazy with all my measurements. But finding centres on work should be a piece of cake now. I spent a long time looking around Ebay and found a seller with a high rating. Lots of sellers but not all have good ratings. I can't find the specific seller if you're interest?

      @@CavemanAston I’ve just pulled the trigger on a wm16b milling machine. Fitting a 3 axis dro is the first project once the mill arrives. What was the reason for this type of dro? Could you share the link where you purchased it from? Looking forward to the next video 👍🏼

    • @CavemanAston

      Thats great. Let me know how it goes. I am curious how much difference there is between the belt drive and variable speed control system versions of the same machine. I purchased mine from this seller on Ebay www.ebay.co.uk/usr/shinedeerdirect2018/ Digital LCD over 7 segment type screen? Ill get some footage of the screen in the next video but the whole thing is graphical so when making bolt patterns it shows you what it will look like before you start drilling. Generally I thought it would be a little easier to use and require less looking at the manual trying to figure out what code means what if I had the 7 segment display.

      @@CavemanAston thanks for the reply, I’ve tried to find the dro from that link but they must of stopped selling it 🤦🏻‍♂️. I’m sure they are all very similar if not the same under different packaging. I’ll keep a eye on my notifications for the next video.

      @In the Workshop. Thats unfortunate they no longer sell it. I believe after some research that people have found the cheaper units can fail after a while compared to the semi pro versions. but at half the price I was willing to give it a try. Next video is uploading as I type and is for my new Vacuum. but hopefully within the next week I will have finished the DRO video.
