Thank me later people of my school
Thanks, I think I know you irl wow
Edit: Yep , I do , same questions! Hello , this is Shuvam!
Yep just saw the bottom
This helped a lot , thanks so much bro!
I came here from her book "Becoming". The speech simply touched my heart. She is truely one of the best First Ladies. We miss you, Michelle :(
Same 😊
She's a great woman to look up. A truly lady that is intelligent, full of values and creating an impacting in today's society.
BIG MIKE LMAO WAKE UP
I appreciated her message here nonetheless. I didn't come from a traditional family home, where my mum forced me to do well but broke my self-esteem on a daily basis. My stepdad couldn't help me as he was not well. The ones who really developed me constructively were a handful of teachers who believed in me. Watching her speech had made me, instead of being bitter about what I didn't have, realise I should look for a man who respects me and to be a supportive parent to my kids.
who elsee is watching this becuase their schol has asked them too !!!!
yh me 🤦🏼♀️ haha
I came here when I got to page 319 of Michelle's book Becoming. She's amazing!
Me too
I'm on the same page right now!
Could you please share me Michelle's book Becoming ? My email: toan83.vcn@gmail.com
Yup, me too ^^
Me too!
your really amazing, your people, keep this spirit, and progress well for your nation, God bless you.
Being smart is cool. The other thing that is even more cool is knowing how to think for yourself. Knowing how to think critically. Being smart and a critical thinker are very cool things! :-)
Wow, TED, thank you so much for bringing Michelle's complete speech to RUclips. I had no hope of ever knowing what she really said at that school.
Thanks again. This is one of my favorite subscriptions. TED is absolutely fantastic! :)
stephenetienne - I agree with you that teachers need to be paid more, and that athletes and movie stars make more than necessary, but I'm doubtful that a pay increase will change anything.
What needs to change is our value system and a closer examination of what's actually learned in schools - most of what is learned in school has nothing to do with academia but more to do with shaping and molding social identity.
Take a look at John Taylor Gatto and the work he's published.
Your success will be determined by your fortitude, your own confidence and your individual hard work! -- Michelle O'bama
I completely agree. If top universities cost you 100k $ a year, you cut the amount of clever people attending it by 90%, roughly estimated.
A great speech!!!!
I'm impressed with her skill as a speaker. This is a nice talk.
What a powerful message you gave all around the world especially for young women. Thank you so much.
I think that if we want to get our kids smarter we have to start from in the womb. i know that sounds crazy, but hear me out, i know this kid an he is without a doubt the best musician i have ever met, and hear this, his parents played music through the womb and then he started playing music when he was two, if we did that to all of our kids in different ways, we could make a smarter nation.
you are not alone! i watch ted every weekday and am normally left with a feeling that i have learnt something but not today!
They cut off the hugging part which is my favorite part ^^
she refers to them as the next leaders of tomorrow and says they will be the one's writing history.. she doesn't even mention anything about they're future husbands. she's telling them not to limit themselves. seems to me you watched this video w/ prior judgements.
Great to hear. Ill offer a contrary example. My mom is strong, independent and well meaning. She raised me alone until I could take over. She has schizophrenia but is not diagnosed, I learned recently. She indoctrinated me in the worst possible way, threatened me with hell, told me I would get raped in prison, attempted to suffocate me with an umbrella when I wasn't strong enough to fight off an adult. I was suicidal recently, but now Im making an effort to get back up on my feet. Its very hard.
I agree with your "I would rather advise.
....question all authority.. etc" that, not any one learns do in school. Questuining authority, does not require hard work, lest thinking is considered that, and if any, that would appear as doing nothing and have you labled "lazy". not to mention that it has you fly in the face of every norm. Lest hard work is tempered with 'the done all we can', give it a break and let each come round of their own accord.
Thank you Michellie, You always make great speeches .
2018??
also zero incentives for being a good teacher. Also it is necessary that children have an appetite for learning sparked by their caretakers. No one is pushing children to learn
I actually think she's a great, intelligent, woman and everything she said was fascinating to me.
I just like causing drama on the tube
I'm 100% for education. But instead of saying "take education more seriously" how about saying "countries, make education 100% free like other countries have".
im watching this for homework dont judge me
Same George!
Lol

guess it never occured to you that barack may not have gotten that far without her
I have no problem with her talking. I thought TED videos are suppose to be a TED events. Instead is it just based on what the TED people think would be nice to show. I thought this was a channel for their talks, not other people's no matter how nice they are.
I have to agree... this is not TED stuff, this is politics.
Education is important, tell me something I don't know.
Being smart is cool. It's too bad pop culture rejects that notion.
gold value does fluctuate but it wont fall below certain point because its actually work (unlike money) and im not for using gold as money
im just saying that it could be used to back Money up (even if banks be forced to keep just 1/10 of the value of money in their banks as gold it would help to prevent crushes)
We know that money can totally fail
we dont know of any time in history that gold did
right now money is just paper as soon as people will stop trusting it crush will occur
You need counselling for all that hating dude.
You've got someone looking to use her position to inspire and uplift others, and all you can do is hate?
That was very motivational. I'm glad I saw this right now. Thank you for posting this TED
Hmm, whilst the majority of people see this as a motivational speech for women, you think that she's trying to make you feel guilty. Can I ask why you think she is making you feel guilty of?
michelle is just as educated as her husband. they both went to harvard and she is a lawyer as well. it's not like she was bum before she met him. she was very successful in her field.
First, I don't see "the organization" as a mutually exclusive agent from "the individual". Second, there has never been a better means of procuring benefit for one's self in the absence of an organization. You can look at the implications of Locke's natural state, or follow John Galt's oath to its logical, but unethical conclusion. And even your point here highlights this idea: political and economic "systems" require "organizations" that are empowered and informed by the collective will.
this is great and all but that girl behind her was legit staring into my soul
Lol
Banks didnt print money! And FED prints money
FED is also partially private its not owned by government like many people think. This allows for legal money manipulation which is horrible
it never happened with first banks
Banks also receive money from government so there is no competition and banks dont bankrupt (its people who should recieve the money and they should switch banks if their bank goes bankrupt) The situation is hopeless money isnt backed by anything nothing prohibits a crush
Atlas Shrugged is a great suggestion. It's a good source for identifying uncritical, grandiloquent, and overly long thought that in absolutely no way reflects reality. Perhaps the latter is just the irony of Rand's Objectivism.
anyone else realize they don't even know what laura bush looked like or sounded like?
I'm forced to do this for homework.Yes , homework . During quarantine .
Same
Ffion Rogers Oof
I’m not doing it now 🤫
Jason Nicolaou Oh ok , btw hi Jason , its me , Shuvam
Imagine doing hw lol
This is a valid criticism once you replace "standing here as the first african-american first lady" with "standing here as the first african-american to win over a billion dollars in the lottery." There is litttle content here really. And like I mentioned before, where she does make claims, her claims are questionable as I explained in my other comments.
wikipedia. She only stopped working because of her husbands campain. In the USA you still have to show off as a Family Man to win an ellection. But I grant you... it's a strange choice to not mention her career at all Oo
Im not saying change medium of exchange
still use money just back it with something
In economics market decides the value if the whole value is artificially pumped up because people expect other people to take it as payment
then all the sudden people might want it less and less untill they dont want it@all
in fact we know value of money fluctuates a lot government tries to prevent it but that causes stress and can cause a crush
and if theres not enough resources the resource value will raise
i like neither politicians nor their spouses.
power to the people !!
If you are open to discussions on your draft proposals,
public or private, I would be very pleased to be a part of that.
Becoming book brought me here!!
wats this gotta do with TED? she's a good speaker though.
Can Michelle speak any other languages?
having healthy relationships between men and women, promoting equal access to education for all, closing the obvious gap and not accepting the distance between the world that is and the world that should be.....umm these are ideas worth spreading in my opinion! wtf, are you negative commenters even watching the video???
& just in case your wondering, I WAS NOT AN OBAMA SUPPORTER AT ALL in our primaries...
AMEN...
Love this Woman!
Love this woman!
rough start, all in all nice talk.
but the problem is, we compare her talking skills to her husband, which she clearly isn't. else she might have been president, similar intellect and opinion.
anyways, the message is good, but its just not captivating enough.. besides, its a message that has been put across plenty of times already.
Exactly, the education system gives the impression that imitation is the ultimate goal. That's why it's such a drag for intelligent and free-thinking people.
You'll educate people, just not people outside of your country. Those people are that country's responsibility. Hmm, okay. Cheers to everyone who doesn't think this way.
What a beautiful lady! Good and i still love her and Barack Obama❣️❣️😍😍😍👍🏻👍🏻
I'm just curious, what do you think of his reign as it is? I'm not aiming to start a discussion btw.
Shame that I need to disagree with the first lady. The gap of opportunity between the rich and poor is massive. Your destiny is largely influenced by the "hard work" of your absurdly rich parents. Are your parents sane? How sane? One parent, or two? These are important questions, the answers do play a significant role in your future.
Well, the irony is that for 'the people' to become enpowered, a movement with some kind of figurehead is required, which implies a compromise with the sense of individuality. This conflict is well understood and exploited by those commited to maintaining the malignant status quo.
that is great to heard the message
@derekchewie11 He just became president and now you are blaming him for a bad educational system that has been there for at least decades...
I thought it takes more than one year to educate somebody!!
This says a lot about your education level.
Your argument is makes no sense and therefore should be avoided
if comments post 2wice im sorry youtube doesnt post my comments and i dont know if they posted or not
its so frustrating
Fierce eyelashes wow!
Is this really TED?
I agree, Capitalists do not keep money under their beds at night.
The money and investments are the financial and banking systems where the same kinds of bubbles are more abstracted.
Something like taxing the top harder could make it sane.
level the playing field.
Use the money to build schools, hospitals, infrastructure and a sane low crime society.
The only people who don't want this are the worst corps on the right.
They are loud though, gotta give 'em that.
Most businesses see the advantage.
It may be a shame but you're doing it for reasons of INTEGRITY rather than through ideological dogma, which is always a refreshing thing to see. ^^
that's right.....
AHHH THAT'S MY SCHOOL!
English gcse gang where we at
I concur.
4:36 what it means to be a mother
The roofs of education are bitter but the fruits are very sweet
Money was never backed by anything Really?
do you know how money came to be? it use to be a note that you have that much gold stored! Money use to be backed by gold! IF money is not backed by anything then crushes can occur all the sudden people realize they want food and nobody wants money and a huge inflation occurs. Gold was valued because it takes work to get gold Gold represents work! And people like the way gold looks! Money is way overvalued! You can print it for cents and its worth a 100
I would send my kids to private school too but I'd also like to work on fixing the public education system as well - just like Michelle Obama.
Agree with you up to 2 but not from 3 and below. She definitely is selling something but , the filters that the different listeners put on would mean your 3 and 4 would be completely different for everyone listening. for some the diversity would mean they can reach to that height, for others it would be well you had a father who worked hard so don't talk like we are in the same situation, and still some other will agree with your 3 etc... the same for 4. and the rest
the tyranical actions of barak scare me so much more.
a president shold not be deeply involved with the private sector like barak is. it scares me.
That's how you interpreted her statements? Really? You must be looking for faults. Surely, if you look for a problem, you'll find one, even if it doesn't exist.
"uh"
Third, My primary contention is really with respect to Atlas Shrugged. It is a wordy piece of literature, but it's so far removed from reality that I shirk to call it utopian. The protagonist population rarely sleeps, they live unhealthy lives to the point that if they were in real life, they'd all be dead or dying. Yet they are all remarkably healthy, all good looking, super intelligent. And this population is juxtaposed by this completely contrived, ad hoc population of "communists"...
uhh.. really? she went to princeton and is a harvard educated lawyer. so no.
if you studied history you would know that he gathered both Republicans and Democrats together and used a lot of ideas at once some of them horrible (burning food) some good
The reason why there was GD is because of banks
Also FDR helped in spirit more then with anything else he said "the only thing we have to fear is fear itself" and its true fear ruins economy! He tried many things and some worked and ppl trusted him so they started spending helping econ a lot.
your funny
sustainedbyramen try eating more nutricious foods as ramen really damaged something there. There is nothing wrong when you support some1 that you love instead of competing with them
I totally agree with you, Boris Brott, conductor mentioned to his mother he knew all the cello pieces, "that's because I was practicing them while I was pregnant with you". We absorb all from the moment of conception, including having the 100th monkey phenomena at work, what ever society has materialized, is like wise already in us, it just takes time to be activated, and our physical developemnd
yea but that money has no value
so its like keeping something that has no value anyways (or can loose value)
Gold was there because it cannot completely loose value!
still better then keeping nothing but as soon as money looses value the money in the bank looses value as well
Two whole syllables? I'm truly honoured. Have a peanut.
very narrow-minded comment.
their are many fields in which one cna be smart - mathematics is one of them, equally to arts, phylosophy, psychology, engineering, anything.
Shows how a person can be smart and strong and still be sexist.
michelle obama is so cool and educated and awesome... i love her
It didnt help
country be much better off without it!
the other things he did helped
not the social things
I disagree that she's making any promises. No one expects less from a first lady, so this is nothing new or special. However.... she is claiming that if you just work hard enough, that's all that matters. This is profoundly wrong. The world is horribly unfair, and I would rather advise those young women to question all authority and discover what is the source of most of the world's collective suffering, then dedicate your life to studying it and taking punches at it.
I don't understand how this makes her part of the fraud. She understood the system is broken, wasn't in a position to fix it... so sent her kids to a private school. How is this at all inconsistent with her goals?
T°6?
@wasdom01 oh my bad lol. I didn't know if you was being sarcastic or not. I couldn't tell.
See....that's her point....
The US was by and large agrarian.
And I don't buy into manufactured consent.
Who else is watching this due to their school? Lol
That's right, but without her, you can't be sure Barack was ever going to be president. Of course, he would still have had a good chance maybe, but I don't think you can argue that she was not a proud, idealistic and educated woman BEFORE she met Barack. So, you might have a point, but what's the point?
Since this was not a TED talk it should not be posted here. Rated 2 stars
message of hope is not socialistic
its just a message
it will have an impact and thats good but anybody can say the message
and skip the ad hominems i think you should study history more
and i will study history more i dont think there is ever enough
anyways this country started out as very capitalistic and the more socialistic it got (and the more banking system got into gov.) the worse of it is
US also was the land of freedom, its not anymore) ppl give up their freedom because they are scared
"'m sorry but that did nothing for me".
too bad for you, but you are not my responsibility to educate im sure your country should accommodate you
Yea that got kinda annoying...
