Very enjoyable video did like the 'talking to yourself' part about the windows but it is a shame that the windows are not lined up and great to see Jen!
Hey Nathan great to see you uploading videos again, I've been on the 701 towards the start of 2024 from Waterloo to Windsor and back and it was a really impressive ride on them, has been it for sure. Keep up the videos, can't wait for more 😁👍
3:25 Thanks for the review of the toilet on the 701 trains. The reason why they have that lever on the wall, instead of the old-style catch on the door, is that it has to be as easy to use by disabled passengers as able bodied passengers. Some of those older controls, on the tiny toilets I've been in on older trains are pretty tiny. And someone using that toilet might have a couple of fingers missing or have arthritis or have something else going on that makes it a bit hard for them to get a physical latch on the door locked. Sure, you might bump that latch from locked to unlocked with an elbow, if you were careless. But it's best to go for the you can get this to work with the back of your hand or elbow design as that is going to work for the largest number of customers. The other reason they have to do this is that, if someone is taken ill - staff need to be able to open the door from the outside and rescue people.
The main reason for some seats not aligning with the windows is there's a larger than normal gap between the vestibules and where the seats start, allowing for more standing space. Because this is a commuter train, some may argue this is a worthy tradeoff for a less crushed feeling during rush hour, although depending on travel habits rush hour that may not apply. You win some and you loose some.
3:39 I find it funny how it's just "a toilet" or "an accessible toilet" when in actual fact the 701s have first-in-Britain _bioreactor_ Controlled Emission Toilets (CETs), rather than the "conventional" CETs of other British trains. By releasing onboard-treated wastewater, the waste tanks last longer before being emptied. Also I think it's perfectly fine to do a poo on a train lol. It's also kind of funny that there was an "official launch" for *_five_* out of 90 units in service!
The arterio trains are replacing the older class 455 trains on the suburban network out of london Waterloo when these are out they will run on the suburban services
I do like the inside of the Class 701 Arterio and it’s going to make a lot of difference especially when there’s lots of commuters travelling into London Waterloo. And the Class 455 should start to end their operation and to see them face the scrapyard and to get scrapped. I think that these new trains should last for 50 years.
Nice video. And another day I am sad to not be British and part of your great rail community. Instead I have to live with the ever infighting German one (record holder fellow countryman attacked me in the comment section of a Nick Badley video) 🙄
I want South Western Railway to start replacing the Class 455 and to send them for scrap as they are getting so old and passengers want new trains in service. And the Class 701 Arterio to start operating on the Reading, Guildford, Weybridge, Dorking, Woking. Hampton Court, Chessington South, Twickenham, Strawberry Hill, Hounslow and Shepperton. And perhaps allow the Class 458 to work on the Aldershot and Alton service.
Im gonna say, watching this video you would be a great presenter man. Great video keep up the work
Great video and I hope your channel continues to grow

Thanks Timothy, and they are lovely trains to ride on aren’t they!

Yo Nathan is back to filming!
long live the 455s
Long live the 455s! I agree with you! So much more reliable and comfortable!
@TrainLifeGBwhy on earth would anyone want to keep those awful things? Bring back the VEP’s now they were comfortable and were a pleasure to ride.
@@richjames2540 Thats very true, way better then the 455s
Any bets on whether they will ever make it to Woking or Guildford?

Also, isn't there a need for chunkier bits (or whatever the technical term is) between the windows with aluminium bodywork?
@@Roland-pw5xjtrains have been using aluminium mostly in the uk since the 90s. Was the seat alignment an issue then.

The tables are similar to the ones on the Scotrail Class 380s; they're really only half a table.
7:50 if I’m reading the news correctly, the guards will be dispatching _all_ trains…
nice one nathan big up bro

Look odd without a class 47 on the front
The interior it’s giving thameslink / overground eliz line vibes
The 701 is pretty much the same train as the 710 Overground and the Elizabeth Line stock.

Pity you didn't seem to be able to test the door alarms on closing. I know you like that "beep-beep-beep".
nathan would make a good actor
maybe one day 🤷🏽♂️
They look awful inside, who designs a train where the seats do not align with the windows..
you mean seats not aligning with windows, right?
@ Lol yes

@@Andrewjg_89 only the drivers don’t want the Class 701s in service 🤣
True. But they got no choice or they can go elsewhere.
@Andrewjg_89 are the 455s that bad? They are so much more reliable and comfortable then 701s.
Absolutely
Nice 👍
