    Good to see you back, Nathan. I'm very skeptical about all the known means of storing electricity because it's all really complex chemistry involving materials that are expensive to source and often associated with labour exploitation. But we live in advanced economies totally dependent on electricity, which means that at least in Europe, you are never far from an electrical supply point. So why not just extend the cables over the bus route, put some steel rails into the road surface, provide the vehicle with a current collection device and forget about lugging 10 tons of battery around everywhere before a single passenger has boarded?

    • @networknathan
      @networknathan  8 месяцев назад +2

      i do actually agree with you but i feel a lot of people will complain of the "eye sore" of having cables running along the street.

    • @1258-Eckhart
      @1258-Eckhart 8 месяцев назад +1

      If those streets were in Oxford, Bath, York or Cambridge, they'd have a point, but most British High Streets have enough eyesores all of their own to make that argument redundant. It's just the pot calling the kettle black. @@networknathan

    you don't need to wait for the electric buses to charge. that's done in the down time of the bus (usually overnight) and the battery has enough capacity to support a whole days worth of journeys without charging

    Electrically powered buses can also run on power from a continuous cable above the road. The electricity supply can be simplified and energy consumption can be reduced if the buses are fitted with steel wheels running on strips of metal installed on the surface of the road.

      That is a great idea, oh wait, they actually exist and I've been on two this evening.
      For context, I live in Nottingham and we have "Nottingham Express Transit", i.e. stupidly named trams as is the British Tradition.

      I won't stand for this trolleybus erasure.

    • @SoftJellauw
      @SoftJellauw 8 месяцев назад +1

      in that case it becomes more of tram sort of thing instead of an bus and you would loose the advantages of the bus being quite flexible as they just need road as for infrustructure and stations can easily be reoriented compared to lets say trains or trams nevertheless you are right that trams with rails and being continuensly powered is better but it has a higher cost and doesnt have all the benfits of the buses and might not be what an area is looking as for their public transit system if you ve got any remarks tell me and correct as i may be wrong

      It is all about traffic flows. There is a range for buses. If you want to carry more people you go for tracked systems. There is also a ceiling for trams. Modern low floor, single deck trams are inefficient due to need to fit in little details like wheels.

    A negative for hydrogen is the tanks. The shape and size seems fixed whereas in the decade plus of electric vehicles the battery density has increased, solid state somewhere in the near future (for high end cars I imagine initially) so it woupd seem we can reduce the space taken up batteries and charge time's.
    I see TFL is quoting 4-5hrs for charging their electric BYD bus which would be done overnight and can go for 199 miles.

    It’s so nice to see you back on RUclips. I would say that Hydrogen buses is probably better but battery powered buses can’t operate long distances. As London wants to go greener to cut Co2 emissions and reduce pollution.
    But I can see the point in having greener buses to reduce Co2 emissions. Still it’s nice to see you back.

    We have learn this in science hydroden but Electric Bus are good zero emmision you did mention about the souce of electric of Trolleybus use new format of IMC In Motion Charge that Trolleybus over head line charger the bus and not all poles will have IMC on there street. Some will have on bus stop or on Deport of bus different charger of Electric bus to.

    So it's a trolly bus but worse, why don't they just set up a tolly bus networks instead, of wait because tfl doesn't have money right

  • @tonystanley5337

    You clearly don't understand the problems with Hydrogen. Hydrogen buses don't have time to refuel during the day, and battery buses don't need to. And we do not have the energy to green produce Hydrogen with, hence all FCEV do not use green Hydrogen today. BEV efficiency means there are CO2 saving even if the electricity is produced by centralised fossil fuel plants.
    Anyone who compares the costs properly throws out Hydrogen.

    Hydrogen is really bad. Not clever. Not green. Inefficient. Very pricey and dangerous. Think Hindenberg disaster 1937... With battery buses, you don't wait for it to charge. That is done at night and off-peak times. BYD make a superb range of EV buses, right off the peg and ready to go..
