I Paid $11 To Fly First Class To Las Vegas To Eat Junk Food For 4 Days

- This is the story of my January 2024 trip to Las Vegas. I flew in first class on United Airlines, and that only cost me $11... plus a bunch of frequent flyer miles I had accrued the previous year going back and forth across the country for five different cruises.
While in Las Vegas, I stayed at the Flamingo Hotel... at the suggestion of my friend, Jeff, who lives in Vegas. It was a perfect suggestion and I was so happy to have found a relatively inexpensive hotel in a perfect location on the Las Vegas strip and adjacent to the Linq Promenade... a collection of restaurants, bars, shops, and entertainment venues.
A highlight of the trip was eating trash can nachos at Guy Fieri's Vegas Kitchen & Bar. They were just like the ones I had enjoyed in Guy Fieri restaurants on Carnival cruise ships, but a much larger portion size.
I also totally loved the 3x3 cheeseburger at In-N-Out in the Linq Promenade. There were also several pleasant surprises in the various airports I visited along the way... delicious barbecued brisket at my hometown airport in Pasco, Washington... fantastic clam chowder at the San Francisco Giants Clubhouse restaurant at SFO... and some of the best French fries I've ever had at Shake Shack in the Denver airport.
In addition to visiting Las Vegas in order to get better food than I can find in my hometown, I also came to Vegas to see the show "Postcard From Earth" at The Sphere. It was a very unique experience that I enjoyed very much.
Feel free to leave a comment with your reaction to the fast food I ate for four days. I don't eat like this every day... but yeah, I've put on some weight and probably need to eat less for the rest of the year!

From a New Yorker… go to John’s of Bleeker and get a pizza. Just a tip - don’t get a pie with too many toppings there. One topping or just cheese is best. I love their pepperoni pizza. Don’t forget to ask for Parmesan cheese. They don’t keep it on the tables there and it is by request only. Try to get a booth, and the middle tables can get cramped. Enjoy!

As a matter of fact, there was. I'm guessing you've been there before. I did get a shot of the band playing, and in hindsight I probably should have included it in the video to help convey that this was a classy place. But by this point in the story, I was feeling like the video was getting a little too long and I was trying to be brief and get to the ending. But yeah, I probably should have taken five seconds to include a shot of the band. The music they played was absolutely perfect for the setting, by the way.

I'm going to do a New England coastal cruise with American Cruise Lines.
We booked a sweet deal for the Flamingo at $17/night in May. But the Horseshoe beat it by $11/night but I really like the Linq Promenade!
Be aware that the Flamingo charges a $45 per night "resort fee" on top of their advertised room rate, and there are about $8 per night in taxes, too.
Great video, wonderful content. I really want to thank Jim for recording his happy life and share with us. Although i have been in the U.S. for many years, I feel I have learned a lot about American life and English through Jim's video.
Great video Jim, but as an Uber Lyft driver I have to say, "NEVER use Lyft!" They pay their drivers half of what Uber pays.
Excellent video Jim! For a better breakfast experience go to Mon Ami Gabi and sit at an outdoor table. It's in the Paris Casino Hotel! We used to go all the time when we lived in Vegas!
What cruise are you doing out of NYC? We are on the Carnival Jubilee in a few weeks and are very excited!
That restaurant is quite a walk from the Flamingo.
I stayed at the Flamingo arount 1986 with our trip to Comdex. I absolutely remember an all-you-can-eat buffet for $3.50 and I saw a sign for a Frank Sinatra concert show with tickets available for 50$ !!! I remember looking out the window and seeing many places like Circus Circus, but ai also noticed many sandy, empty lots around there, not so anymore I guess!!
That’s awesome! I’ve been to Las Vegas a lot. I recently past through when I went to Sourthern California back in may of 2023, it’s also crazy I could have met you. You were only 6 hours away from me, I’m located in Utah. so cool you visited Vegas.

Same here moved to pasco wa from Sacramento ca. It's frustrating that there aren't any good places to eat.
That Ruby’s Diner in the airport is the only one in Vegas and it’s only available to ticketed passengers.
We live in Vegas and love it. But it's starting to become more then CA to live here when it comes to housing and especially utilities. Average gas bill for a 1500 sqft home just gas bill is almost $500 a month electric bill $800 a month and so on.
That's because all of California is moving here; and raising the crime rate!! We never had all of these issues before.

If I were to visit Las Vegas, I would try both Gordon Ramsay Burger and Gordon Ramsay Steak.
What is the point of flying first class? More privacy? More food?
The main thing that makes me prefer first class is that there are only two seats on each side of the row, rather than 3. I prefer the window seat so that I can enjoy the views and shoot video out the window... but I don't want to have to ask two people to stand up if I need to go use the restroom. Also, in the regional jets that United flies out of my hometown airport, on the left side of the aisle there's just one seat in first class... so, those are fantastic for me when I am travelling solo because I have a window seat and it's also an aisle seat at the same time.
There are other smaller advantages to first class, too...
Being the first on and off the plane.
Getting access to the overhead storage before it fills up.
The option to have a cocktail or two during the flight.
The flight attendants in first class are a little nicer to the passengers.
The people sitting near you are more upscale.
Hi Jim, I always follow your cruise videos. I am wondering if you can recommend a good hotel at the Miami cruise port?? I'm planning on something this spring, but I want to go down (live in CT) a few days earlier, thanks and really appreciate your advice.

@@JimZim Jim, thanks so much for your advice! I remember also watching your video on the Oasis of the Seas (I think it was) from Port Liberty NJ. I'm looking at a Bahamas 7 day with the Anthem from Port Liberty - I remember you recommended a hotel near the port there also. Can you give me that link? What did you think of that Bahamas cruise? I'm in CT which is a 1.5 hr. drive but heavy traffic to the port, I'd rather stay in a hotel for the night before. Thanks again my friend!

@@JimZim Jim, thanks. I looked at fabulous pictures in that page you gave me. I can't figure out where is the Port Liberty the ship sails from in relation to the hotel? Does the hotel offer shuttle service to? How did you get from Embassy Suites to the Anthem? I would do as you did, go in a few days early and just get some relaxation. Thanks!

wow, going to vegas and NEVER gamble once...shocker! at least u kept all ur money for food! u shouldda wok over to planet hollywood miracle mile shops for cheap eats! in out burger cheapest place on link promenade! that sphere trip for 78$ is a must too if u goto vegas strip

Jim: Nice video review. A couple of suggestions 1) for breakfast try Dennys or a local breakfast place better food by $20 bucks lol 2) Visit the local Chinatown for Dim Sum ( Orchid Garden, Yum Cha) 3) Jacksons a local restaurant has a 16oz. Ribeye steak for $20. The food you bought was way overpriced with the exception of In-n-Out burgers which is always excellent . Stay Warm Peace out. Btw the Sphere looked INCREDIBLE!!

i ususally travel solo to Vegas. i don't drink ,smoke nor gamble . but i love to eat and people watch. Always something to do there

As I explained in the video, I had paid for five flights with United in 2023... so, I had earned quite a few frequent flyer miles. I redeemed those miles, plus $11, for the roundtrip first class flight to Las Vegas.
