    I bought the Marvel RPG on Roll 20 before realizing how much better the character builder is on Demiplane. Fingers crossed that they are able to take the best of both and make the experience great for everyone.

    It’s not the look and feel of roll20 that was bad. It’s the actual functionality of the character builder. Demiplane’s builder was so clear and functional I knew it would be easy to my players through it (all being new to the game). Whereas roll20’s builder was barely functional and you couldn’t even go back into it without wiping everything!

    I played Marvel Super Heroes in the 80's so have been excited to get into the Marvel Multiverse RPG. But I am not a fan of how restrictive online support is for the game. Which seems to fit with Roll20's business model that includes subscription based usage.
    So personally I'm not going to buy into either despite my main group playing online. We'll find ways to integrate other VTTs we do support.

      @@FuzzyOnTheDetails thank you. I have struggled with Foundry and know of Owlbear and intend to check that out. Recently I bought Talespire, which is a great 3D map experience but doesn't have support for many game systems. We'll see since there are a variety of options.

    I've had the opposite experience with roll20. I've found it easier to navigate and learn over the years.
    When I tried foundry, while it looked a bit nicer, it was far too complicated for me to get anything up and running as a gm. There were too many modules to attempt to incorporate, most of which I couldn't easily figure out how to get working. I struggled thru the 30 day trial period and then went back to roll20.
    While I've been on it for nearly 10 years, I didn't dive deep till the pandemic, and it has made many improvements over the years imo.

      I'm genuinely happy when I hear about people having good experiences with Roll20, so thank you for sharing that! And yeah, I freely admit that Foundry has a learning curve. And for some, it might be too much (the overwhelming majority of my gaming buds are in tech, so for us it is "fun" to play with all the modules, but I recognize we're a bit weird like that ;-).

    I have to say that I was not thrilled when I heard that Roll20 acquired Demiplane. I find it to be a subpar VTT compared to Foundry. Foundry for one, allows me to use all the assets I own freely, where Roll20 locks them to the specific adventure. Not to mention all the mods that have been created for Foundry, which allow you to customize it to your liking. I bought all the Marvel RPG books for Roll20, then discovered how limited it is. I just use Foundry for the maps and tokens now, while using Demiplane for character sheets and dice rolling. I am hoping that this ends up being a positive thing, but I will remain cautiously optimistic for the moment and see how it pans out.

      Joe, I feel like I could have written that comment myself. I use Foundry for the same reasons and had the same frustrations with Roll20.

      @@FuzzyOnTheDetails I also like that Foundry is a single purchase with no subscription. I just host on my computer and use a free account on Ngrok to create a link to send out to my players.

    Did we ever get any answers on Marvel, Demiplane and Roll20? I own all the Marvel stuff on Roll20, and do not want to spend a bunch of money for Demiplane.

    • @FuzzyOnTheDetails
      @FuzzyOnTheDetails  23 дня назад

      A timely question! About an hour ago I got off of Demiplane's weekly "office hours" call and things seem to be moving in the right direction. While they do not have an exact date yet, nor can they officially say for sure it is going to happen, it seems like this is something all parties are still actively working towards, but there are complexities with the licenses that are just taking time to work though.
      If I were in your shoes I'd keep holding on and not purchase anything yet in Demiplane.

  • @logosao88
    @logosao88 26 дней назад +1

    I have a question as I'm thinking about subscribing to Demiplane: Since I already have physical copies of the books (Core Rules, Cataclism of Kang, and E-men Expansion), I don't want to purchase digital copies of these too. Will that deny me any features of the Marvel Multiverse system in Demiplane? If so, then that seems like a big disincentive to purchase a Demiplane subscription.

    • @FuzzyOnTheDetails
      @FuzzyOnTheDetails  26 дней назад

      If you only have physical copies of the books and don't intend on getting the digital copies, I would probably not recommend getting a subscription to Demiplane. The subscription allows you to share existing purchases with your group, so if you have no purchases to share, there's no additional value. The other big value for me is unlimited characters. I've got over 100 NPCs I've made for various games so that's a big benefit for me.
      If you're in a gaming group and one of them has the digital books, all you need is a free Demiplane ID, and they can share the books you, without you having to pay for a subscription. That will allow you to use the character creation tool with all of the content unlocked.
      Does that make sense?

    • @logosao88
      @logosao88 26 дней назад +1

      @@FuzzyOnTheDetails Yes, that makes sense. I'm the first one to venture out and buy the books. That are all 5e D&D players. I'm persuading them to try MMRP for the first time. We'll end up doing it face-to-face. Thanks for the info!

      @@rgmadd7 I know that Demiplane is working on this functionality for MMRPG. They just made a big push to get it in for Pathfinder and Avatar for Gen Con and are continuing to work on the functionality for other games. To my knowledge, when that goes live, it will be the only option.

    I agree Demiplane is so slick looking but the actual VTT of Roll20 is so aged and poor

    • @PJRZ1
      @PJRZ1 3 месяца назад

      Yeah. I don’t mind roll20 to show maps and I actually use it as a VTT for D&D. but with DnDBeyond as my reference and character builder. But recently wanted to try Marvel RPG so tried out roll20 and Demiplane with the QuickStart rules to see which ones had the better character builder for my players. Demiplane won by a landslide, no contest. The builder in roll20 was so bad I considered it unusable, especially as I would have to walk my players through it as well.
