Q.
Bryson DeChambeau's ball is lying right underneath a boundary fence, so that the ball appears to be inside the back of the railings. Is the ball in bounds?
.
A.
If a boundary is defined by a boundary fence, then the Rules of Golf tell us that the line of the course is determined by the inside of the boundary posts, not the railings. For a ball to be in bounds, part of it must cross the straight line that runs between one boundary post to next.
If no part of the ball is crossing this line onto the course side, then the ball is considered out, which is why Bryson's ball was considered to be Out of Bounds. His only option is to play his provisional ball.
Rule 18.3, and the Definitions of Boundary Objects and Out of Bounds.

Bryson: "I dont believe that..."
Official: "I don't believe you hit the same wrong club over and over again to the same spot OB, but here we are."
"it's in the same spot...well that is tough to do"...Love Sir Nick.
With the way that he plays, it must've taken an hour to finish the hole!
26 minutes
I heard it took 26 minutes, which for a Pro is inexcusable
He over analyzes everything, just hit the damn ball
@@njd9143 No he doesn't, he knows how to be as precise as possible
this was unbelievable to see. Jack was so quick the Tin Cup moment lol ^_^ and the ruling was the right call imo
Jack saying that he’s going to “Tin Cup it” is savage 😂
yea Jack, Bryson is showing everyone now what he's made of
the way he just whacks it without pause or any thinking... like a true lumberjack that he is
Well according to the law of averages it's very unlikely that he'd hit two balls out of bounds. The first attempt may have been dumb but the second wasn't
Tough to overpower the golf course from the rough...
This aged well
@@carsonk1364 Bryson is a freak haha
can't imagine being his caddy. must be like walking on egg shells when you challenge his club decisions.
I’d be afraid he would get roid rage and hit me
Everyone else:
Bryson: Turns into the Hulk

@@RealJackHQ You mean turns into the Sulk. Kids talented but a big f'n baby.

When you have a hammer everything is a nail.
Lol, facts
Can I have a second opinion on that 😄
Most golfers are more respectful of the officials.
I dont think he was disrespectul, he was obviously stressed about situation but he disagreed with officals and kept his cool
What was that bad?
Most officials are more respectful of players and don't laugh in their face.....
To many old fucks that make golf boring and slowww... make this shit exciting
Most pga players are respectful of the course, the rules, other players and the TV crew, too
Not this narcissist.
He could have said thank you when he was done.
He was never going to say thank you, he's an arsehole of a player.
He should have used his "scientific approach" when arguing with the rules official.
I would penalize him for dropping it too high
It even looks like he dropped the second one on top of where he had stomped down the rough.
I noticed that 2
I’m starting to change my opinion about this guy - the fact he played that shot 3 times with the wrong club & then refused to accept that the outcome was his fault - it just all points to someone with an ego that is getting out of control.
I’m not a Bryson fan but I don’t think he was refusing to accept that it was his fault. If I were in the same position I wouldve been asking the same questions. That ball being in or out could’ve been the difference in making the cut or not
josh122799 he’s absolutely allowed to ask for a ruling , but there’s no need to be rude. End of the day he’s the one who hit it there twice in a row. Seemed like he was taking frustration out on the official just doing his job
I comp agree robby
second most hated golfer in the world, if there where world rankings for the most hated it be Patrick Reed #1 and then Bryson second.
Took ya’ this long to figure him out?!? 😣 Ego personified...
Died when jack said “I think he’s going to tincup it I really do.” 🤣😆😂🤣🤣
This is an amazing clip in so many ways, but perhaps the most amazing part is the way the commentators dropped decorum. Hilarious.
Should change his name to Karen De Chambeau. Get me a manager
Exactly!
Bryson Doucheambeau
😆😆
#RefereesLivesMatter
Never mind. I found out why. The ball has to still be somewhat touching the course.
I’m wondering why he didn’t just play a iron out to the fairway instead of trying to be a hero , play for a 6 and then he would have made the cut . Course management???
Ego can be a VERY dangerous thing on the golf course...
Probably because he's a hot head on steroids.
I don't see why he was even arguing the OB ball anyway, he already had a ball in play so unless he stated that his 7th shot was a provisional he had to play his 8th shot from where it ended up.
The great thing about the Tin Cup reference was that McAvoy was trying to break Jack's record. Here Jack is giving the advice on the same situation 😄
He made a "DeShambles" of it.
I just was looking at this, touching the line isnt the safe factor, it has to be on the line and some of it has to be exposed to the in play area.
If on the line and no hang over to in play side, its deemed ob.
Golf + Ego = Disaster Golf has a unique way of humbling a man!
Or making a guy win his first major tournament. Like who? Lemme see...
@@larrymasterspowerbuildingc4477 that’s beyond the point. 🤗
@@Snotboxrocked156 I forgot... what was the point? All i saw was a guy allowed to play his game the way he wanted to within the rules, and if i am not mistaken he still fucked that hole as we say un my group TWFS--ten ways from sideways. But it's still not enough for thg Brysion haters.
Why does Bryson not know the rules. I've played for 46 years as an amateur, and know that rule. For him to argue in a way with official and bringing up past ruling is crap. Officials are there to protect the field by enforcing the rules.
Oh shut up, this made golf a bit more interesting
He should certainly be able to bring up a past ruling and question the current one. The problem is just how he handled it. He could’ve been much more polite but he was very rude and condescending to the officials.
Power ain't everything. Accuracy will always reign supreme in golf
He just won
@@ericlucido926 At one of the easiest courses on the tour. We'll see how he fares in a major
Dude is accurate af too . One bad round dont break someones season
He should have watch your recent video about the boundary gate !
😂😂🤣
I think by now he should be aware of that rule. He's been playing golf for a long time.
He's aware of the rule and OK with it for other players, just not for him.
How long before he is fighting to be allowed to velcro his putter to his arm😂😂😂
Yeah exactly...everyone that is a near single handicapper knows that rule.
On top of that he already shot another ball.
Since he took that ball, those previous ones are out anyways
he actually referenced Tin Cup on national TV. That to make the golf universe tremble to its core.
Jack is trolling. Lol classsic
Savage
And he doesn’t say thank you to the rules official for educating him.
Roid rage got the best of him
He wasn’t that mad
Oh dont be such a bird.
Lmaoooo
@@ericlucido926 yes he was lol
3 wood out of deep, steep rough, what in the world was he thinking?
Bryson's brilliance is so unmatched and undeniable, there is know way that intellectual mere mortals like the rest of us can comprehend it.😂
He was thinking he was the hottest shit since Tiger Woods but now he knows otherwise.
In his defense, he did illegally drop onto grass that he stomped down previously 😂
Jack was spot on... He’s got to go through it. Better here than at a major.
For a intelligent man what on earth was he thinking ahh of cause am going to over power the golf course am glad he's been brought back to earth with a thud. There's a time and a place to over power a golf course this was not one of them can't blame anyone but himself.
It’s not smart to hit a driver from the 15th tee at Muirfield Village. Just sayin’...
What does it matter if the ball is touching the line or not? He had already put another ball into play. Unless he declared that final shot as “provisional”, he could no longer play the ball under the fence anyway. Didn’t hear him make that declaration.
This is an excellent point. It was a 'Professional golfer' provisional call.
I like his spirit trying to smack the second shot three times...that’s entertaining and he will be surely rewarded for this mindset in the future...
This debate on the OB ball was pointless he was going to miss the cut anyway
Welcome to Team Garcia.
The first shot went left. The 2nd shot went OB. So he drops for shot 3 and 4 hits shot 5 that went OB so his next drop was a 6 and 7. The 7th went just out side the storm drain. 8th was a chip to the green and two putted home and cards a 10. Did I get that right?
1. Stroke - tee shot
2. PA Drop
3. Stroke - OOB
4. OOB Drop
5. Stroke - OOB
6. OOB Drop
7. Stroke
8. Stroke onto green
9. Putt
10. Putt - holed
Fashooga the first shot went into the penalty area, the second shot he played was his 3rd
This makes me feel a little better about myself when I hit my usual nines, knowing that a pro did worse
because you thought you were the only idiot?
You already covered this one in another video. If more than 1/2 the ball is on the good side of the fence, then you are ok. They called it "by a dimple" to the good on that one.
Yeah, this is a common situation, I think I've covered it about five times. Hopefully I gave the same ruling in each one.
@@GolfRulesQuestions You totally did.
So basically he does not know the rule about the inside of the stake or fence post being the line of OOB. Wonder how many times he has played from similar illegal place in a tournament with the normal white stakes or white line as OOB ?? I know pretty rare to be in this particular place, but food for thought.
He’s far too technical in everything that he does, not to know that ruling..
He knew but had nothing to lose by politicing
No, he was being a dick, period..There’s no politicking, it’s not arbitrary..
Didn't beat my record of 11 on a par 5.
I had an 11 too... unfortunately it was on a par 3 and it was the highlight of my round.
That's your record? You're kidding me.
I've done a 21 on a par 3. Spent 10 shots in the bunker.
Having only 1 win in the tour is a feat let alone multiple, he’s got a vision of how he can play and did for most of this tournament, having played the game the biggest challenge is yourself and not the course.
The saddest part of this is that he did not know the rule. This is not a situation where an official needs to be consulted.
We all know how it feels. Good growing moment. Dude is no joke brilliant.
He LOVES golf. You can sense that. He is giving his all to argue the point.
I hope the best he recovers with some sleep and comes back with fire.
No, he’s being a rude prick
So this is the Augusta favorite?
Play by the Rules or Die by the Rules.
Either way - Learn them first.
Tin Cup and Dechambeau should never be used in the same book let alone sentence.
Second ruling? If It’s not out of bounds Bryson then go ahead and hit it, oh you can’t- then shut up and drop
It's funny how Bryson cites Phil. He may have been too young to have seen Phil make some bad decisions trying to play hero ball. Eventually Phil matured and started to win majors. Bryson still has a long way to go in knowing when to and not to use his superman strength.
People ripping into him in the comments. If you're a golfer, how many times have you...
- ripped a three wood, which is the club you hit the most poorly, for your second shot on a par 5 even though you have no chance of covering the distance and there's five bunkers and a lake next to the green? (and then taken a MULLY to see if you could do it the second time??)
- raked your ball back and forth over the hole 6 or 7 times on your "gimme" and still taken it as ONE putt?
- took driver out on the short dogleg par 4, because, even though you can't hit the ball with any sort of consistency, you know that this time, you can make it over the trees, over the ravine, through the tree branches on the other side, to a blind landing area, and wind up perfectly in the fairway?
Golf if hard. DeChambeau might be a bit of a nerd when it comes to the technicalities of his swing, but he's good as all hell. This here's just a little bit of golf rage. I'd be angry too. Sucks for him though, for sure. He'll learn.
I would have loved to have heard Johnny Miller call this hole... 😁
“His scientific approach would make even Ben Hogan puke.”
I said the same thing above...nice to know we are of kindered spirits. I think the networks are too PC to take Johhny's straight talk, they are worried about hurting the player's feelings or offending the snowflakes emotions. I miss Johnny for sure!
I had Bryson in a Make the Cut Parlay. This hole cost me 1k
And now at the WGC he wants relief from an ant hole. The only hole he wants to think hard about is the very large one he is digging for himself.
I watched that nonsense. There were actually no ant holes, but he argued that he saw ants, therefore there must be an ant hole somewhere. He wanted to move the ball because it settled in the nest of dried twigs.
He stopped thinking at the T. It is now all about. emotions
I don't believe you....never hated a golfer more
I'm surprised he didn't eat the rules official.
Was always going to happen when he got on a proper course.
Not really a Bryson fan but he won on this course a couple of years earlier not to mention Arnold's tournament at Bay Hill as well as the US Open and US Amateur.
Why have rules and officials if you don’t accept them. Sigh.
Does it sound like Bryson is wearing metal spikes when he walks on the concrete path? Those are still illegal right?
The allowance of metal spikes is at the discretion of the Committee.
Knowing Bryson since elementary school, he is meticulous. You can complain about him all you want, but there’s nothing wrong with somebody trying to make sure he did it right.
You were his school mate?
Nah, Bryson is disrespecting the rules official and the spirit of the game.
@@domdom9180 Yes. Elementary through high school. I actually have a funny video of him in our physics class obsessing over trying to hit a marble into a hole in the table.
@@Timmorrisjr If thats not a commentary on his meticulous nature idk what is😂 the vid still available tho?😳
@@domdom9180 I’ve always thought about uploading it, but I don’t wanna upload it without his permission.
The whole thing is this: that ball isn't just out of bounds. It's out of play now.
So what was the point of this whole ruling thing anyways
And methods goes out the window with that swing.
He’s the Ken of PGA!
I love Bryson, but after his meltdown he realized that it might be best to see if he could play the first ball by the fence. haha. Rest up kid. More winning to come.
Dude called Bryson a Karen!!! LMAO. That is so wrong bro!!! LMAO twice
What a baby lol I mean I kinda like Bryson but pga always posting about him and praising him got old fast and now he’s upset that the cameraman filming him ruined his image. Ahhahahaha come on man.
That was awesome, love watching these guys squirm and feck up once and a while, Bryson may need to rethink his philosophy
The rule is exactly correct. The outer edge of a boundary fence is the boundary. If any part of the ball were touching the course it would be in bounds, He could go to the OB to play a ball that is in bounds but the ball is out. The difference in what Phil had was a temporary "crowd" fence. I work at the Honda Classic and we have a few holes where these temporary fences have been installed to keep people out of homeowner's back yards. They are NOT boundary fences. They are temporary immoveable obstructions. If the ball is over the fence but in bounds relative to the OB stakes, then the player gets TIO relief.
I'm disliking Bryson more and more all the time.
I’m happy he didn’t make the cut. Now we can all see the final 2 rounds finish before sunset. Fuck... this guy needs to be penalized for every shot he takes.
tbh i think he just wanted to hit the ball where it layed.
We should all be judged when we're obviously not at our best.
lol. hubris. this is hilarious.
That first drop was over knee height. Should’ve been a dq anyways. He’s a stickler with every rule except pace of play
Im by no means a PGA professional nor do i claim to be an expert, but even I know that a temporary object like bleachers, porta-potti and in Phil’s case a crowd control mesh fence that doesn’t play as part of the course under normal circumstances is different than a permanent object like a bathroom building, or snack shack or a metal fence that remains as part of the course 24/7.
Hey Bryson, just for clarification on a rule you probably should already know being a professional and spending majority of your life playing golf, you get relief from temporary structures that are put into place strictly to accommodate a tournament without penalty. Structures that are permanent you play as it lies or take a penalty drop if unable. And out of bounds is determined by an imaginary line from the leading edge of 1 pole/stake to another and your ball must touch that imaginary line. It’s really not that complicated
The broad outside the rails was quivering to be De Chambeaued
His tiny roid balls probably wouldn’t produce much of a money shot.
if you hit it in someones yard...it should be outta bounds....hit it in the fairway
puma and cobra have given up on ricky fowler. all the focus is on dechamble.
Or they could focus on me - I use Cobra 😉
This guy has turned into a right 🔔🔚
Just say bellend
only Tiger Woods can play that short...Am just saying....
Of course it's in from your perspective cause that's all that matters isn't bryce! Rules of golf shouldn't apply to you right.
It was the cameramans fault
they're all laughing at the soon to be US Open winner
no risk, no fun
He will be carrying scientific instruments next, ruler, protractor, compass, and other weapons of math instruction, but do they count as clubs 🤔
Don’t worry Bryson you’re about to win the us open right now
Love all the 100 handicap haters coming out of the woodwork as if they understand Bryson and his mentality or approach to the game.
It's got nothing to do with what handicap you are! Even an 18 time Major winner Jack Nicklaus was taking the piss at his stupidity!
Jack will straighten him out.
He designed really terrific golfcourses to straighten everybody out.
He's become a gimmick, smash a drive flick a wedge no craft in that, the likes of muirfield village will find that type of player out all day long, thats why rahm leading because he has great touch and skill something bryson will never have
Out of bounds
He wanted to jump the fence and hit it? How? Where? He couldn't move that ball more than a foot or two, and might have missed it completely. And broken his club or his hand or his wrist! This guy is a whiner.
van de Velde moment
Karen De Chambeau LMAO three times that is so wrong bro!!!
