  • This animation describes how the LINX surgery along with hiatal hernia repair works to stop reflux. After hiatal hernia repair, a ring of magnetic beads (LINX) are placed around the lower esophageal sphincter. Food and liquids can easily pass into the stomach with swallow, but LINX prevents stomach acid, bile, and digestive enzymes from refluxing back into the esophagus.

    Is this a new procedure? I mean the mesh. Not the lynx.
    Before it was only funduplication. Tying the stomach around itself at the top. Is this mesh a new break through?
    And what about the chip regulating the electricity of the opening/closing?

      On Netflix now .. must see if you’re considering a upcoming surgery. I was convinced that I was going with mesh for my up coming hiatal hernia procedure.. I’m positive that I will not be going that route. After watching this docu and seeing what J&J had done in the name of $$$ as will as others I won’t be going with lynx either. They have their grubby poop stained hand in that one too.

    • @alfonsoalvarez5349
      @alfonsoalvarez5349 3 года назад +4

      Yeah but the problem with mesh and lynx are possible complications. I was told that my gastroenterologist that the lynx complications can be slipping of the device, some have broken while in the body and the other is difficulty swallowing food. Not being able to comfortably swallow my food or water is a deal breaker. Mesh adhering to tissue and possibly cause immune desases is another. Lots to thing about here.

I began investigating procedures and devices and came across on how sloppy the FDA process is for allowing this stuff to get on the market. From birth control devices and anything implanted in our body. Metal can cause poisoning and mesh is absorbed by out tissues causing pain and possibly deaths. Cobalt metals breakdown and dissolve. I had a Type IV paraesophageal hernia that went undiagnosed for several years. The main tip off was that Cameron's erosions in my stomach kept causing severe anemia. Later it got so I could not keep a lot of food down. I knew I did not want the standard Nissan Fundoplication procedure due to the various issues that result from that and decided to go with the LINX procedure. The surgeon did NOT use mesh, I have a prescription for Ondanstran if I feel any nausea coming on. While I can vomit with the Linx device, the surgeon said the diaphragm tissue is pretty fragile and he doesn't want me wretching or throwing up as it could cause a tear. It's coming up on just 2 months since I had the surgery. Gas is still something of an issue and probably always will be. My biggest problem is finding food that agrees with me, various meats, soups, etc that I liked before just don't seem to sit well. But as far as the LINX device, I can't really notice it's there. I have to eat a little slower, but overall I'm satisfied at this point. I know Alfonso Alvarez has nothing good to say about it, but I heard from a few people who had the LINX and were happy. I've already got metal plates in me from an accident several years ago. I don't know what babies putting magnets in their mouths has to do with the procedure. This device isn't swallowed and it goes around the outside of the esophagus. Options are fairly limited as to what can be done and I did what I felt was the better option.

      @@davebalanding At 5 months out, I'm eating and drinking everything I did before. I understand some people need to avoid carbonated beverages, but they don't bother me at all. I love milk and dairy products and continue to eat them. Fried foods, spicy, sauteed, it all works now. I will have an occasional day where I have a little more gas. I've found that a small piece of candied ginger will usually help that problem. At the time I had the surgery the nutritionist said I would have to learn to eat a lot slower and chew everything up really well too. Sometimes when eating, I realize I'm not slowing down though and it doesn't bother me. And once in a while I will get hiccups, about 4-5 in a row shortly after starting a meal. Pause for a few minutes and swallow a couple times and it goes away. Overall I am very happy with the results of the Linx procedure.
