I will be having this surgery when my insurance kicks in in January. It is not fun vomiting bile and having my throat burn afterwards. I can't wait for relief.
@@Theroguemanofficial my doctor suggested me not to go on operation bevause it is not solution and after some tomes the problem will appear again :) So i have to suffer till the end of my life
There seems to be a lot of cutting and tearing during this surgery. This concerns me, because my surgeon told me there is a possibility of a collapsed lung, or rupturing an artery during this procedure.
I just had it, a week ago, with no complications! I was worried about the complications too, but I've heard they are not common. Plus, the cutting is very important to resolve the issue and ensure it doesn't happen again any time soon: I was told that my stomach had become "attached" to my diaphram which had caused my severe GERD symptoms that baffled my doctor. The surgeon had to remove it from the diaphram and pull it back down so the valve could be corrected and so the tissues wouldn't be secured to each other anymore (which contributed to the weakening of the valve). It took about 2.5 hours under anesthesia (for the hernia part) and mine was small enough the surgeon didn't put in a mesh. I am assuming this is what we are seeing here with them cutting. I also had an additional endoscopic fundoplication but I've heard the symptoms are still the same. They just might be less severe and for shorter. The next day they did an esophagram to make sure there were no leaks and there weren't. Hope this helps!
@@joshnosirname9924 I'm doing well! I just need to avoid very fatty food and haven't taken any of my PPI since November of last year! Sometimes I need to take an antacid but it isn't a weekly occurance. I think once I got major acid once or twice for no more than a day! In the past Ive had heart palpitations after meals, breathing problems, dizziness ,coughing up clear mucus and lightheaded. Did alot of blood test but doctors didn’t find anything. Years past and I started to put on a lot of weight. I went from 184 pounds two 248. I started to get really sick in March , symptoms include: gerd, weight loss, feeling full after eating really small amount, indigestion, ear pain, eye pain, regurgitation, always burping etc. I was diagnosed with Hiatus Hernia in June. Omeprazole wasn’t helping im now on nexium for 2 months now. Im really depressed reading these comments make me feel good and bad. I hope we get the help and guidance we need. Ohh and im only 23 at 210 pounds atm.
Wait, at the beginning you cut through lots of stuff and then did not restore it afterward. Won't the stomach become much looser then without those attachments?
They didn't show the whole operation. The 'restoration' of everything we saw being cut wasn't shown in such a short film. But be assured that it was all done!
I'm told I have a hiatel hernia, but I have no reflux. I use to, but I quit eating late at night. My xray showed that about half my stomach was in my chest putting pressure on my lung and heart. I hope to have that fixed some day so I won't be so short of breath. Per the Doc, everything else is fine. :)

No medication is helping and I am requesting the surgery so I can go back to regular life. I've been down for the past 6 months with this, and this is after I spent all of 2021 injured and unable to work. I CANNOT wait to go back to normal life.
Lucky you have 2 cm! There are treatments for hernias 2 cm or les without a surgery.. try to look at stretta treatment and TIF and maybeee linx but im not sure about the linx since it a magnetic band
I have had this problem since December, so, 5 months roughly now. I would get random attacks after eating acidic things to upset my GERD. I have never had GERD so I didn’t know what to expect. Or heart burn. I’m 24. I’m also healthy, played college basketball, still active, running, playing basketball. All of a sudden one night I ate some tortilla chips while watching a movie and I was mixing Queso and salsa dip. I laid down to go to sleep and about 1 hour goes by and I start having this strange burning sensation in my stomach and it feels like it has been aired up full. I’m my heart rate starts to then speed up bc I start having an anxiety attack and my heart and throat begin to burn. I try to throw up but nothing comes out. Sitting up and drinking cold water seem to calm it down but don’t stop it. I then start to break out into a sweat and the only thing that feels good is my AC on blast and my fan in blast. I then start to convince my self it is a heart attack so I begin to drive my self to a hospital and then not even 2 min down the road I get sick to my stomach and I pull over and puke for 10 min. Straight cheese and salsa. I feel amazing and go back home and finally get to sleep.
We go ER and wait about 3 hours before I even get triaged. Finally in triage they ask me questions such as my symptoms and pains currently and they check my BP. Well my blood pressure from being in so much pain has me freaking out so it was like 180/90. Very very bad! My pains were stomach burning, stomach growling, cramping lightly, weak, nauseous, dizzy, light headed, couldn’t focus, and bad heart burn and throat burn. So they ran an EKG on me. The EKG came back normal. The chest x ray came back normal. I calmed down after that. They took a blood test and pee test. Everything was normal and good except my kidneys had plus 4 protein and keystones in them bc I was severely dehydrated. That’s bc I had no appetite or anything bc of how bad my stomach hurt. Also, my anion gap levels was plus 17 and 12 is normal. So it was 5 high bc the acid in my blood stream was more than usual. Resulting in dehydration and acid reflux! So they have prescribed my lisinopril 10 mg once day in morning for BP( which works amazingly ) I feel a lot more calm with it. Also, the Omeprazole still. Then they prescribed me some sucralfate 1G 4 times a day. Basically that pill for me should be crushed up and mixed wjth cold water. The med acts as a liquid band aid for when you get a bad acid reflux flare up that hurts your stomach, throat, and heart, and chest. It works too. All the meds work they just take maybe 10-20 min to kick in. But it’s a good relief for anxiety and BP to know you’re being taken care of
@@myyoutubechannel3161 turns out I’m completely fine and healthy. I was diagnosed with general anxiety disorder whichever caused me to have gastritis. I take anxiety meds now and am fine. I might have 1 anxiety episode a day and like maybe 1 attack every month
Tomorrow I take my mom to see a surgeon for hiatal hernia repair. She's 79 I am worried because of her age. I watched the video wanted to see what exactly will be done.
I have a hypothesis to construct a better and safer surgery in the future. When the medical advancements are available for instance 3d bioprinting, surgeries for hiatal hernias will be able to repair and seal the diaphragm and make it tighter from the bio cells. Their will be no ropes and mesh added. Afterwards the doctors will be able to bioprint back the protective skin that they cut that holds the stomach and diaphragm together. The ones they cut get to the hernia. It will be revolutionary for hiatal hernia surgery and fundoplication won't be needed for the surgery anymore. Your welcome.
I believe mines large. I hadn't seen a doctor yet but its gotten to the point where I feel suffocated when I try to sleep. It feels like its being squished and my mind would warn me and wake me up. Get palpitations too when laying down. Too scared of the surgery.
@@BatuhanAmbar turns out its a virus left after having covid. Some people experience after effects from covid and this is what ive gotten. It helps but when I eat certain foods and drink my coffee (I can't stop drinking coffee lol) I get bad symptoms like shortness of breath and chest pressure. But I don't get suffocation at night when lying down anymore and my bradycardia seems to not happen lately. Been on meds for two weeks now. Going to see a GI in February.

I feel a compression in the middle top abdomen right under my rib cage I have problems where I feel like im not getting enough oxygen so I take heavy deep breathes and the breathlessness gets worse when I eat something and sometimes when I burp or let out air it feels a bit better does this have anything to do with hernia
I was wondering the same my brother had this surgery but his body is constantly trying to reject the mesh he has more pain now than before surgery he says I have a 4 cm hiatal hernia and life is bloody shit I did consider surgery but only if it improves my quality of life 😥
I’m currently having these symptoms… heartburn chest pain feels like having a heart attack all time feeling lethargic…. Upper abdomen pains a lot … doctors told me I don’t need surgery it will be handled with lifestyle changes but I’m so done with these symptoms…. I’m tired of it
Have you had the surgery? I just had mine and it wasn't so bad. I also had a TIF but even with both, recovery isn't so bad. The worst symptoms resolve in a few days but I managed that with Tylenol. The worst pain didn't come from the surgical site but from the nerves being irritated by the gas. I stopped feeling that by the third day and the sutures haven't hurt at all. Just expect some shoulder pain to be the worst of it. Which is from the nerve pain and referred pain from the diaphram, I was told. It's like... having an overused muscle. Not sharp or anything. If you've ever pulled a muscle, it's a bit like that.
@@verma6629 Six months post surgery, yes! I still have some mild discomfort if I swallow too much air and need to burp, but I can definitely still burp, just smaller bubbles. I am no longer taking any PPIs, though from time to time I need an antacid or gas-relieving chew (once a week or less, not much more than the average person!). I know what triggers acid for me now so I just need to have less of it (fatty foods). I lost 10-15 pounds within a month after surgery but the post-op diet wasn't as bad as I had feared. Just need a good multi-vitamin and foods you know you enjoy. I don't regret the surgery at all. My life has changed immensely since then. I just think it is important to have reasonable expectations. It won't stop people from having acid completely because even people without GERD get heartburn sometimes. Avoid what triggers it or take an antacid and it is fine. Eat more often during the day if needed. But, not having constant reflux and not needing medicine, a few lifestyle changes is nothing!
Is one of the symptoms is a constant sensation like you’ve got food stuck in your esophagus? It’s a feeling like you’ve got something stuck in your sternum area? Cos this is how I am feeling right now, since the beginning of April. It started out feeling like I had a painful trapped gas bubble in my back and sternum. Just a stabbing and sharp sensation. Had a horrible week of acid reflux symptoms on the following week. Then the weird “stuck in sternum” sensation afterwards. It doesn’t hurt. But it lets me know of its presence when I eat food, drink beverages and when I exercise. Occasionally, the “trapped gas bubble” feeling comes back at night, affecting my back, chest and ribs. It’s usually at nighttime.
I'm suffering from hiatus I'm scared that if it becomes bigger hole I always feel like to vomit after having food ....if we control our food n maintain having alchohol n all it will be healed by it self?
Upper GI endoscopy, barium swallow, and CT scan can identify most hiatal hernias. They can also miss small ones. Barium is quick, non-invasive, and cheap. Endoscopy can see the damage caused by acid reflux. CT is not commonly used for hiatal hernias. Manometry is the most accurate method to determine the size of the hernia. Barium swallow and upper GI endoscopy are the go to methods.

In a perfect situation I don't want him to do surgery, I have hope he'll grow out of it but then I am scared that every time he has these brown vomit episode that it will do a long term more serious damage, I'm also scared of the mesh usage, so please if anyone has advice please comment.

Wow
Amazing job 👍 to the surgeons
There seems to be a lot of cutting and tearing during this surgery. This concerns me, because my surgeon told me there is a possibility of a collapsed lung, or rupturing an artery during this procedure.
I just had it, a week ago, with no complications!
I was worried about the complications too, but I've heard they are not common. Plus, the cutting is very important to resolve the issue and ensure it doesn't happen again any time soon:
I was told that my stomach had become "attached" to my diaphram which had caused my severe GERD symptoms that baffled my doctor.

The human body is mind blowing.
I'm going through the exact same thing as we speak😢. I'm miserable
I hope you get well, was you diagnosed by Barium X-Rays?
I just found out that I have a hiatal hernia. I have 2cm of my stomach through my diaphragm and it hurts SO BAD.

@Ivette mona It actually turned out not to be a hernia but my gallbladder. I got it out last week and so far I am back to normal!
I’m in need of this surgery
Milk usually helps.
But it’s a good relief for anxiety and BP to know you’re being taken care of
so you have a hiatial hernia, or an ulcer, or what?
Yeah how's your appetite now ?
@@myyoutubechannel3161 turns out I’m completely fine and healthy. I was diagnosed with general anxiety disorder whichever caused me to have gastritis. I take anxiety meds now and am fine. I might have 1 anxiety episode a day and like maybe 1 attack every month

I hope she is dancing an irish jig today...
I don't understand why there is so much cutting if all they're doing is pulling the stomach down.
Good question. What's was being cut there and why? Where was the vegal nerves?
That' s a nice video ! 👍
He's ripping through there like he's running !ate for happy hour.
Amazing work !!!!
My husband has a very xlg one & he had esophagus cancer 23 yrs ago 😢 is there hope in getting this repaired?
Geçen yıl olduğum ameliyat... tanrım sana şükürler olsun artık reflüden öksürmüyorum.
Is it possible to fix the just the hernia without needing a fundoplication or linx?
They don't want to do that but i don't know why ,and you ?
Yes. Depends on your situation.
I believe mines large. I hadn't seen a doctor yet but its gotten to the point where I feel suffocated when I try to sleep. It feels like its being squished and my mind would warn me and wake me up. Get palpitations too when laying down. Too scared of the surgery.

i have a hiatal hernia and I’m freaking out, i dont want to have surgery done :(
Have you had the surgery?
@@theknightradiant2 Are u completely cured now?

Sir, can hiatal hernia surgery be done under spinal epidural anaesthesia ?
Sir there is open surgery is used to cure haital harnia

Oh my lord 💔💔💔💔
I'm suffering from hiatus I'm scared that if it becomes bigger hole I always feel like to vomit after having food ....if we control our food n maintain having alchohol n all it will be healed by it self?
Looks like they sketched to shape onto the mesh with a sharpie.
Very good describes
Is it through a ct scan that they can visibly identify the hernia or can it be detected through a gastroscope?
Gastroscope identifies the hernia, for the type of hernia and its position you need to do barium X-Ray.
They did a CT scan for my mom to figure out what the bump on her stomach was. It was this hernia
I had to do an exam called a Manometry
They did endoscopy in my case.
What type of mesh is this? How long does it last?
The doctor who performed this surgery, is he the one speaking?
Tell me please that this blue drawings on the mesh ( 4:12 ) is not pencil ink 🤦🏽♂️ Im sorry to ask, i know im no doctor but.. it eats my mind not to ask!
I believe it's a tattoo ink and pen
Very discerning here too
Nope! It is done by a sterile surgical pen/surgipen/surgical skin marker. The dye used is typically gentian violet.

He has some good days but when he gets sick he starts to vomit brown stuff which is blood and milk/baby food mixed together and it go on for days, and I have to be very careful with what I give him and how much I give him and that's not easy for a baby that is just starting food and has to grow at the same time.
