- Orico external hard drive case enclosure review and setup. How to make external HDD case using ORICO external enclosure. Installation using a ADATA SSD SATA SU800 as the external USB drive. The ORICO SATA to USB 3.0 external hard drive enclosure (2.5 drives) uses a USB C 3.1 to USB C 3.1 cable. This external USB hard drive case supports Windows, MAC OS and LINUX operating systems. How fast is this external drive enclosure for SSD? It will read drives up to 10Gbps and on average up to 5Gbps with UASP support. A SSD external case or HDD external case are very easy and convenient to use anywhere you go.
You will see Crystal Disk Mark 8 stats testing on this external SSD case and see great read and write speeds for an external drive enclosure for SSD or external drive enclosure for hard drives.
Thanks for getting to the point, easy to follow you with no long story or gimmick
You Bet!
Nick, YOU are THE MAN!!! Folks locally were trying to charge me crazy money $125 to do this. They have to be out of their minds. I am not a newbie to this part. This is not rocket science, but they tried to charge me as if it was. :) You are the best, sir!
Glad my video helped you to save some cash.
@@nickscomputerfix I have one problem though. I'm not sure why I can't find a HD enclosure to fit my very old, 2012, desktop hard drive? On the HD label, it says SATA 3.0 Gb/s RPM 72000 RPM, but when I do a ruler tape measurement, the size is 4" wide and 5.75" long. All of the HD enclosures on Amazon say 2.5" or 3.5". 🤷
That might sound like a strange size. However, most 3.5 inch mechanical hard drives actually measure around 4 inches wide and about 5.8 inches long. The thickness is some where around 0.8 inches I believe. Also most desktop mechanical hard drive manufacturers stay within these measurements for most part.
@@nickscomputerfix Yeah I did more research and discovered that the 3.5" refers to the actual mechanical board portion not the size of the casing itself which is another .05" more which makes the combined unit 4" wide. See, we both learned and taught each other something yesterday. 😁
I have Liked and Subbed to your channel, my friend. Gratzi muchozo! 💪
Thanks for Like and Sub.👍😎
I believe those pads are not for a spacer. You can split them and peel one side off and place them on the bottom for feet to prevent it scratching the bottom of the SSD holder or whatever you seat it on.
I watched your upload to try and find out how to open the clear plastic case, I was close to breaking it. Just stiff but open now.😊
Great informative video with everything I wanted to know and nothing else 👍
Glad it was helpful!
Mine didn't work out of the packet (new hard drive). I had to press windows + x then to disk management then had to press the OK button to initialize the (new) disk (GPT) then I had to scroll down to the unallocated space and right click in that. then click on New Simple Volume then Next, Next, Next and it gave it a new letter (E in my case) and quick format. Worked perfectly after that.
🙏🙏🙏🙌 thank u a lot!
Brilliant, thank you very much.
You're Welcome. Thanks for good comment.
I had done this, since July 2023. I mean purchase that enclosure to make my two 2.5" HDD usable again. And yeah, if not this September, maybe October. I will buy another enclosure for my 3.5" HDD
This case enclosure has work perfectly for me on several 2.5" HDD and also with SSD too. Never gets hot or overheats.
Led indicator and the clear case r cool. Wish it was smoked though.
i think the rubber thingy is used to dampen the vibration from hdd. it should be placed on below of the hdd.
Great video! How much did this Orico enclosure cost you?
I believe it was around 15
@@nickscomputerfix thanks for the info!
Thank you.
You're welcome!
Thank you this was helpful
Glad it helped.
Is this plug and play? Or do u need to set up in bios to use it?
Completely plug and play. No drivers, no app and no software to install.
hows the heat? how hot does it get? and is trim command available since its usb connected
It does get a little warm to hot during usage. Temperature will vary depending on if you are using a SSD or HD and how often you are accessing the drive. I sometimes just leave the enclosure half open when doing constant file transfers for extended amount of time, to allow for cooler running temperatures. Some laptop computers allow trim and others don't.
It is ok to connect it to the cellular phone?
Yes
Is it safe for long term use ?
My Samsung EVO SATA SSD does not work on my laptop using one of these enclosures. I read it has to be plugged into the motehrboard but on my laptop I only have a spare M.2 slot so I have been really struggling to find something that will let me read/copy my old SSD.
Any tips?
I also have a Samsung SSD and mine works fine using this external case.
@@nickscomputerfix oh fantastic can you recommend the external case? I'm on windows 11 maybe that's a limitation of 11?
@@nickscomputerfix I bought this one but nope it does not work for me Samsung 840 evo
Is your Drive formatted in NTFS?
External Drives dont work with NTFS format as far as i know.
I'm having trouble taking the drive OUT! I want to put a different drive into the enclosure, but I'm having trouble pulling the old one out. You think it'd be obvious, but it's not. I don't want to force it. Or maybe I'm just being too careful! But it seems stuck!
You might try using a credit card to gently get under drive and lift it out.
This is hard to slide open. If your thumbs and fingers do not work, try both palms of your hands and maybe hands against thighs for more leverage.
It is not being detected in my laptop, could that mean it is dead?
Suggestions: 1)Try a different USB port. 2) Did you format the SSD if it is new, before using it?
Hi. Do you have a video of the ORICO enclosure connected to an external SSD drive ( removed from the HD shell)? In my case, the SSD has only a USB connection and it cannot connect with the ORICO enclosure. Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks.
did u get help
@@sckumar6812 No, I did not. I made a mistake in description, it is 2.5" HDD, not SSD. Can you advise?
@@sckumar6812 Thanks.
will it fit a 9.5mm sata hdd?
It only allows 2.5 inch drives.
is USB-C interface better than Micro-B (the usual flat 10-pin assymetrical connector), i mean in terms of performance?
i hope anyone can answer soon before i click purchase =]
?
USB -C is best and is most common used for connectivity and performance.
I wonder how we remove ssd from the enclosure
The top of the enclosure slides off, allowing you to remove the SSD if you choose.
@@nickscomputerfix I pulled that off, but it still seems that it's hard to pry the old drive out of the enclosure. Am I being too careful?

What about the speed of copying from internal ssd to this one?
Pretty good SATA to USB C speeds is what I get.
@@nickscomputerfix Could you please elaborate? I get around 310 mbps with my sata 3 ssd in enclosure. It's not blazing-fast, I wish it would be around 450.
Do u know how to remove it?
It's easy to remove the drive from the case with the corner of a credit card. Slide the corner of the credit card under the drive and lift to remove the drive.
