    So you had to jumpstart your car or truck's battery, but then it died again soon after. Or maybe your vehicle stalls out right after taking the jumper cables off? Both of these situations are signs that your battery is damaged beyond repair, or has reached its end of life. Sue shows you some easy ways you can diagnose the battery in your car or truck, so that you know if it needs to be replaced. She also offers some tips for maintaining your healthy battery, and how to avoid doing more harm than good when you do clean, maintain, or protect your battery.

      ...really, does not use a battery tester that induces a load? Talks about CCA in terms of "High Charge Voltage" which is completely confusing - CCA is the amperage that is available for initial 30 seconds to help turn over a cold hard to turn (high starter motor torque needed) engine. AKA more initial power (Power watts = volts x amps). Does not talk about adjusting the acid. Is wearing her prescription glasses and not safety glasses, and dumbs down about everything... so not

    It might be worth mentioning that in modern cars if you replace the battery you actually have to program the car's computer to tell it if it's a Lead Acid/AGM and what the actual Amp-Hour capacity is. Apparently you need to then "reset" the Charging Controller so it now knows there's a new battery and begin charging at a high rate rather than the low rate of the previous dead battery (i'm guessing they do this to avoid having a massive load on the alternator which robs power from the engine). You'd think if you replace with the same battery tech and same (or better) A-H it would figure out that it can charge at a high rate but somehow the anecdotal info is that it doesn't although i'm sure the dealer would love your patronage for changing a battery...

    Great video Sue! Also, dont overfill batteries. Leave level a little UNDER (eye) or rim of cell to allow expansion of electrolyte.
    Hey Sue, take a battery that HAS voltage, wet on top frm acid. Take ur tester, put positive on positive post, negative on THE WET CASE of battery, read meter.😲 Yes, dirty batteries draw voltage/ discharge quicker. 😁

    Thanks for the informative video. All battery videos these days show the top post batteries. It has been twenty plus years since any of my vehicles have had a top post. You have shown in other videos how to clean the top post batteries. How do you clean the terminals on a side post battery? My van has side post and then another connector for jumping since most times these days you can't get to the battery. Show how to clean and jump side terminal batteries. Do you have to spray the side post with anti corrosive spray like a post battery? HELP!

    Apparently I have very low CCA (50 out of 650) but good voltage.. what would be the main causes for that? .. the battery and alternator are both 2yrs old.. they both were replaced cause they were (so they say) defective and the car would stall.. any thoughts? I'm inclined to put a new battery in but I've got a feeling the same thing might happen ..

    I have a problem in my car, sometimes Im not able to turn on my car sometimes when i park it for less than hour. Tested it for parasitic drain its below 0.50ma not that bad. The car has crank but doesnt engage, I need to jump start it with a portable battery and make voltage around 13v to make the car engage, I already tried cleaning the terminals, What do you think the issue?

  • @philipcbarrera1537
    @philipcbarrera1537 2 года назад +1

    A battery may display a full charge. But it will still not crank over if the CCA is 65 percent of the CCA rating in Cold weather. May crank ok in warm weather above 75 percent. Fully charged battery is not a good indicator how good the battery is…..It’s the CCA percentage that battery has left.

      With a bad Altenator Your car ignition’s spark strength falls off (too weak to ignite the fuel/air mix) when your battery voltage drops to around 9.6volts (older cars shut down/stop running).

  • @williamclick9771

    Have a question for you. Can a old battery burst or explode? The reason I'm asking is my cousin gave me his father's Camry. It's a 2000 Toyota Camry LE 4 cylinder. There's rust on the battery cradle and on the frame of the Camry where the battery sat. But I checked other places in the engine bay but there wasn't rust anywhere else. This is where the battery acid got onto the battery cradle and onto the frame of the Camry. This is why I'm asking.

    The whole “cold does kill your battery is a lie” I’ve lived in Pennsylvania all my life and in the snow belt. The water in the battery freezes and the car won’t start. Changed hundreds of car batteries in the winter.

    Even a completely dead cell can be recovered by restoring the chemical balance i.e. add sulphuric acid. in the UK, a licence is required to stock H2S but it isn't illegal to recover sulphuric acid between dead batteries.

    Why would anybody clean terminals using this procedure, your parts store has a two-part brush where you just slip it over the terminal and spin it or you could purchase one that hooks up to a drill which is fairly cheap and brush both of them in less than 10 seconds and then you flip the tool around and it cleans the actual battery cable terminal. This video seemed very defective to me as it made no sense whether you have a dead battery, once you are jumped the car should stay running because at that point your battery is not being used at all because your alternator is running the vehicle and trying to recharge the battery at the same time. Obviously the vehicle that was disabled by a bad battery needed an alternator also

This morning - completely dead - not even any clicks. AAA guy said it might be a bad connecter to negative terminal. ???? it's an old car - doesn't need computers, etc.
