Hi Becky! I'm a quilter and cross stitcher and have some Sulky Stick 'n Stitch. Could be the same product as the Pellon. You print the design, peel off the backing, place it on the fabric, stitch it, then wash it away. You might want to just use regular fabric for your project, that way no worries about matching the cross stitches to the threads. Also, the Stick 'n Stitch acts as a stabilizer. Just use embroidery needles rather than the tapestry needles which have a ballpoint tip. Another thing is to allow room around the edges of your design for working by hand with the needle. P.S. I keep watching your videos to dare put a toe in the water with machine embroidery. The tutorial videos for my Bernina are so daunting and technical they put me to sleep!
Thank you! OK, that's the way then. I'll cut up some of those leftover kitchen bar towels and stick the printed Pellon to that. Whew! Solves the aida cloth problem. I appreciate it! Regardless of your machine brand, the basic mechanics of all embroidery machines are the same. Start with kitchen towels from the dollar store to play around, completely mess them up, and learn the in's and out's of your machine by trial and error. Give yourself permission to completely make a hot mess out of them. You can practice on both ends of the towel and then donate them to the rag heap. Several towels later, you'll be ready for prime time! Embroidery is so fun, you need to just jump in!
Please just give yourself permission to try your embroidery capability’s, it is so much fun and your projects will be beautiful. I am 75 and have been machine embroidering since 1995. I still mess up once in a while but so what, just love it.
@@dwighthill4548 Hey Dwight, Thanks for the encouragement! You've been embroidering for a long time, that is so awesome! I'm getting started on my 70's, so a little behind you.
I've never used the print/stitch stuff but you can either serge/zip zag the edges of the Aida cloth or use painters tape around the edges to prevent fraying. It'll fray some just by handling it while you are stitching. My current project has painters tape on it. Have fun with your project. I'm sure they will be appreciated!

Then to my surprise you give me a shout out on the stop-the-rolling-seam-ripper-tip so now I’m wide awake!!! I see a nap coming later today 😜 See ya later; gotta check out Amy’s Scan n Cut class
We had a water cooler for years in our front room. It sat on a huge home made table and it blew in our window. We had to clean the pads once month. We finally got an air conditioner in 2009. We stayed in the house in the afternoon because of the heat outside. We still do that. we do our yard work early in the morning. 107 degrees that day. That is the way Phoenix is.
The scan and cut can draw and if the design is made with a Friion pen....then it can be erased with a blowdryer/heat gun after all the stitching is finished. Some people say the lines can reappear but I have never seen that myself. However, since embroidery thread will cover the pen marks I don't even think that would be a problem.
I agree. You can weld a piece on in the Canvas too but I didn't want to get too technical. I have seen ghosting with a Frixion pen but that goes away with a rub of water. I've never seen it reappear - even after being on the fabric for months...years. It irons right off and stays gone.
@@PowerToolsWithThread hi from Melbourne Australia 🇦🇺 because of your videos I’ve become brave and ordered the candy corn sewing kit. I don’t have an embroidery machine (now wishing I had one). Frixion pens do come back after putting the design in a freezer overnight. I laminated my daughters note and it disappeared after the tears I thought maybe it’s a frixion pen. Her words reappeared after being in the freezer. This is handy if you have traced something then it disappears instead of retracing you pop it in the freezer and boom it’s back. Looking forward to seeing more videos it’s helping get me through lockdown. I’d love your scraps of the candy corn. 💗 I have just learned of two stabiliser companies near me in Melbourne. Your videos are more important now and thanks for doing them. 🧵
I bought a quilt kit that uses the stitch n dissolve in the embroidered blocks. It is tough to pull the needle through. I wouldn’t use it again . You use it on regular cotton
Becky, you should use linen fabric or really any uneven weave fabric and not worry about matching the stitching in the holes. The holes in AIDA cloth allow for perfect hand stitching but when you are stitching on your machine you don’t need the holes to get it straight. The machine can do it perfectly. I have hand stitched on a plain purchased sweatshirt using a similar product with the “holes” printed on it and then you just use water to dissolve it once you are done stitching. Makes for perfect hand-stitching on sweatshirt fabric but you don’t need that when stitching with a machine.
We will be hand stitching in the hoop at the meeting. I've changed to using extra bar towels (the ones with the DBJJ jars) and I'll use that Pellon product to print the design on them. Thank you SO much for writing to clarify!
