  • We have another broken G56 but luckily this time it isn't mine. We decided rather then sending it out to be rebuilt we would take matters into our own hands and figure out how to rebuild these things our selves sense there are a few of these G56 truck in our group. In this video we are just going to get it d disassembled and just see what all is broken so we can get some parts ordered if we need them.

Im having to replace my synchro for 3-4. Do you have any tips? Never done a trans rebuild before but im a heavy duty diesel mechanic and am very capable. Just never a trans rebuild. Hopefully looking for tips, and which gears 3-4 are.. lol

Its really not bad, they come apart pretty good just use a little heat. Off the top of my head I can't remember what 3-4 was on the stack but if I remember I will reply 🤔

What oil weight do you guys recommend for these types of transmissions? I’m getting ready to swap out the old atf+4 in my G56, but I’m having a really hard time deciding what oil to go with.

I'm running amsoil syncromesh and this one has a thicker 75-90 amsoil transmission fluid we are trying out

So far which one do you like better? I’m actually deciding between amsoil MTF and amsoil Manual Transmission & Transaxle Gear Lube 75W-90. Do you have problems shifting in the winter with 75w-90? That’s what I’m leaning more towards since I do live in Texas and according to the specs it’s a little thicker than MTF.
Also thanks for the fast reply!

The 75-90 might be a little better in your area, should also cut some noise

ATF automatic transmission fluid is the best to run in a G56 high impact in Memphis Tennessee builds the best with a heavy duty casing that want crack neither flex on torque

@@CatsonwheelzI think you mean High Gear out of Memphis. When my g56 took a shit because of a cracked case, I bought a reman one from High Gear. I also run ATF, as that’s what’s recommended.

I would hate the idea of getting away from the manual but at this point it might be more cost effective 🙃
