  • The iPhone SE is perfect for you if you want 1 of these 3 things…
    1. 1. It’s a fantastic minimalist phone
    2. It’s significantly less distracting
    3. The iPhone SE discourages its use by having a smaller and lower quality display

    The SE line is what every person needs. This is not an opinion or subjective matter. The SE line delivers the same realistic and practical needs of any one. The pro-notch line are just fancy marketing to fool consumers but does not in any way improve one's work and life.

    I've had my refurbed SE 2016 for several years now and with its A9 chip, still gives good service in my most frequent usage for something like an "e-reader" of news stories on internet. Very small with 4" screen, but with text zooming, I can read anything and with is 4oz weight, definitely shirt-pocket size. Very convenient. Maybe in awhile, I'll move up to SE2 or SE3.

    Should note that there is 3 gens of the SE - I've had experience with the third. Great points about the minimalism and the less distractions. Compared to my 7 Plus, it feels lightning fast, so I'm happy with that. Plus it's cheap - got one for just over £200 second-hand which I made from cashback, so it was effectively free for me!

    I have a 256GB SE 2022, still on iOS 16.7.2 (to ensure the device stay fast). It’s a beast, especially for gaming.
    The low resolution screen helps in games with no settings / high resolution, as the GPU have less pixels to render.
    The low resolution also help with any concerns about A15’s low RAM bandwidth (34.1GB/s).
    Also, due to the fact the SE 2022 use an iPhone 8 inspired motherboard, the A15 chip isn’t encased between two layers of PCB unlike all other current iPhones, making passive cooling more effective, and making active cooling with a phone cooler also more efficient.
    (Mine doesn’t get that hot in daily tasks, but variance in the way phones are built is a known fact, some may heat up more than others. Updating the phone may also increase the heat produced because let’s face it, the older your phone get, the less care it gets from Apple when it comes to optimization of iOS)
    I’ve never noticed much slowdowns in any games on the SE 2022 with a phone cooler, it just flies through everything at rock solid framerates.
    Only issue is the limited battery life, especially with a phone cooler as the A15 doesn’t throttle as much with it.
    But overall, I love this phone, like so much !

    • @dvn950
      @dvn950  2 дня назад +1

      The fact about the passive cooling is actually super interesting… however I didn’t get to experience this because I was using the 2020 iPhone SE, idk if it has the same interior design as the 2022 model… if it does, then my phone in particular was cooked because it got hot quite regularly, especially in outdoor use, and it doesn’t help that I live in AZ so the heat would get to it pretty fast. Thank you for sharing tho!!!

    • @ThibautMahringer
      @ThibautMahringer 2 дня назад

      @@dvn950 I know the iPhone 11 had the same kind of PCB design (non encased SoC), but it was getting super hot, when the XR with the same design was quite cool. I'm guessing all of this was based on how well built the phones the reviewer had were. (Anandtech is the reviewer I'm talking about)
      SoC are like so complex, little nano differences in the production line will affect how much SoCs do heat up.
      I can only speak for my SE 2022, basic tasks doesn't make it heat up much. Am I a lucky one ? Or is the SE 2022 better cooled than the 2020 ? No idea 😅

    Cameras are great I use my 2nd gen for my YT videos

  • @palma3D-official

    Great video! And it really sums up my experiences with the iPhone SE when I used to own it. (I upgraded from SE to 12 Mini, then have recently upgraded to the standard iPhone 15)
    I had an SE that I believe was from 2nd generation and I must say my experience with SE was really good and I generally was fascinated by the home button. SE was also very useful for what I needed back in the day. I did have drawbacks which was the low screen brightness and the battery was sometimes frustrating, but overall, it’s a nostalgic phone that I appreciate.
    The iPhone 15 is definitely the best phone I have yet and is a very great upgrade as my needs changed, I am a female multimedia artist, and I’m studying micro computing so I usually now do more stuff on my phone than ever before so all the upgrades are very useful and needed!
    As for Touch ID, I personally disagree and I think Face ID is faster, convenient and consistent but the Touch ID definitely got its merits, it was pressing the home button which is not just satisfying but also, it generally was reliable as well, personally not as much for me as Face ID is, but still pretty consistent. The only real drawback of Face ID for me is if you can’t always directly stare your phone or it’s on your pocket, you can’t generally open the phone if you don’t stare it. Personally, I don’t have to make much of an effort to unlock it, I just look at it as I unlock it and it’s done. So it really feels good that much more comfortable in the majority of cases.
    As far as I know, Face ID proposes better security than Touch ID which is also more positive in terms of security features.
    I honestly still think the SE can be great, and the SE 4 will probably adapt to current iPhone design which might make sense but yup, the home button will likely not be there.
    I personally prefer the swipe up and swipe interactions as well as everything is seamless, super smooth, fast, and I honestly just like the swipe gestures in general
    As you said, the SE outdoors wasn’t particularly good at it either as the screen brightness was very low, and I’m outdoors at times so it definitely was an inconvenience for me, my iPhone 15 is perfect honestly and this is no longer an issue.
    I owned the SE I had for 2 years before switching phones. I had to temporarily switch to the 12 mini as I made the change then I have recently got the iPhone 15 brand new. Much needed battery life, great improvements, and generally just everything is way better ✌🏻 but the iPhone SE GEN 2 has been my first phone that I owned and was very satisfied with it for years before its battery eventually started to fail.

FOR ALL THE PPL WHO HAVE AN SE ON iOS 17.7 OR LOWER PLEASE DON’T UPDATE TO iOS 18 OR LATER.

    I have had an iPhone SE 2nd Gen for a while. The home button is wonderful. My only complaint is touch ID only works about 30% of the time, I find face ID much more reliable. But maybe I didn't set up my fingerprint correctly... Also maybe my phone was treated better, but my UI is snappy and responsive on iOS 18.1 beta 5. Siri doesn't do crap. My battery life is very impressive, but that's because I swapped the battery and the screen to a lower energy screen and a higher capacity battery. I just got an iPhone 12 Mini because of some heat issues I was having with charging.

    Juat recently switched from my iPhone se 3rd gen to a Galaxy s24.
    Its a great small iphone but at the end of the day its hard to reae small things on it, no apps are optimized for the smaller screen (facebook cuts off a lot of post/photos on the sides), overall its a decent phone and its was only like $400ish for the 128gb model but the galaxy s24 is a better option for me.

      On Amazon you can get a 2020 model for $100 refurbished… but if you want a newer 2022 model, you can find them on Amazon for around $200… id go for the 2022 model, same design, newer chip, so it’ll last a few years longer over the 2020 model!

    When I listen to the cons, I cried 😅, but it doesn't happen to me. This phone is great. I don't use the 6 (I love it) only because of the incompatibility with several apps, but the SE2 is good for me (and for most of the people; but they think they need more power even if they not 😅)

    1:50 Wait, newer iPhones don't have a fingerprint scanner? (or TouchID how you Apple users call it) WTF? I knew iPhones don't have a Jack port (which I can't live without), and even newer Android phones don't have it, but not even a fingerprint scanner? Apple could just put it beneath the screen or on the power button like most Android manufacters do. Is it that hard?

      ever heard of face id, uncle?

    • @yac2004
      @yac2004 День назад

      Yeah.. they switched to Face ID like 7 years ago with the iPhone 10 which is just facial recognition for unlocking your phone and honestly I have to say in my experience it is objectively worse than Touch ID. I liked being able to immediately unlock my phone with my thumb as I pulled it out of my pocket, and not having to deal with Face ID's jankiness where it sometimes wouldn't recognize my face if I had glasses on or whatnot. Or if I'm laying in bed I would have to position my phone in a certain way where it would recognize me.
      Touch ID was fast enough, no idea why they couldn't have kept the scanner under the screen or something. I believe that's what Google does with the Pixel and I think Samsung aswell

    An se iPhone would only be good for like grandparents maybe. Just the screen size on that lil thing makes it terrible to use. Why do we think Apple killed the 12 and 13 mini? They didn’t sell good at all. Majority of ppl do not want a small screen
