I used my high pressure washer to clean the walls and floor, much better than my broom. This would have been our 8th year with our pool. Our Grandson, son and his wife moved to another state and I only got in it about 10 times last year. Over the seven years of use, I changed the water pump and sand filter to a larger unit. I have changed several hoses. We took it out before the weather got hot here in Southern Nevada. Of course our beautiful grass was gone, and the 4 feet of grass we did have was dead from the dogs. We put in artificial turf. I am glad we did not buy a home with a pool and used the 9x18x4 pool. I could do 50 laps a night and get plenty of exercise. Was it worth it? Yes, pretty simple to put up and maintain and easy to take down and get rid of it. An in ground pool would have required me to either maintain it or pay to have everything taken out and fill the hole.
For those using sand filter, try pool filter balls.. they work great !! They are so light and no messups at all !! Now for back washing I don't know about that, my pool pump does not have that feature. I just take them out when dirty, wash and reuse them. The best thing is they are alot cheaper !!
I would just advise from a pool pro Don't lose swim time and additional down time filtering these 2 steps. Just do them both together. Brush, shock, poly algaecide, balance all other levels and filter continously past clarity. My clients frown at any down time let alone twice as long.
I’m just glad I’m not the only dad that sometimes doesn’t have time for everything . I feel bad letting my pool go because my kids are in sports that feels like 24/7!
My filter is not helping me 😭 - considering changing sand to filter balls. What do you think, Dale? By the way… I love your videos & I’ve learned so much with your content.
I back washed everyday but now the sand filter is ineffective. I used another pump and it worked to get the cloudy dead algae out. Please state what sand you are using. I am using Clorox pool sand from Lowes.
@dalesbackyardofficial a 2:32 can you conect the pump stright to the pool with out the solar pad?? I have the same pool i was wondering if i can use it with out the soloar pad??
I’ve got 6k gallon intex and so far have used the whole jug of algaecide/clarifier and 3 bags of shock and it’s still just as green as an be. I’ve been scrubbing bottom and running pump constantly. Not sure what to do 😢
Same with mine. I have a bestway 18x48 and it looks like a swamp... I just put ph lower in it, algaecide and 2 bags of shock.. The pool place said add another bag of shock tomorrow if needed.
Me too. 🤣 I got the algae killed off, but now my water is cloudy and I’ve tried adding all kinds of chemicals and filter has been running for days and can’t seem to get my water to go clear again. Wondering if I should drain and start over.
I have a rectangular Bestway pool. It is only 2 weeks old and already the printed tiles on the base have faded badly on the floor of the pool. In about 5 places the pattern has disappeared completely. Has anyone else experienced this?
Did you have to vacuum the bottom any?
I did scrub the bottom quite a few times to stir up the water as the filter ran.
Thank you so much! I’m a first time pool owner and I don’t have anyone to show me how to do this stuff!
Same! Now I know why it’s taking me so long to get a pool dang this is for the rich and retired.
This guy is the dad we all deserve

Oh my gosh! We had this problem two weeks ago. Thank you for the reassurance of all the things we did.
You're welcome
Thank You Sir your video is so much better and easy to understand the steps than most video I came across.
I’m just glad I’m not the only dad that sometimes doesn’t have time for everything . I feel bad letting my pool go because my kids are in sports that feels like 24/7!
GREAT ALOHA FROM HAWAII 😎
How much of clorox algaecide/clarifier did you put?
Your tips were useful, thanks 👍
How do you close your pool for the season? Take it down? Or leave it up?
Leave up
Best video I've found.
Mine looks exactly like this right now lol. I just went and bought a bunch of liquid chlorine yesterday.
My filter is not helping me 😭 - considering changing sand to filter balls. What do you think, Dale? By the way… I love your videos & I’ve learned so much with your content.
I know this may be a stupid question but how should the pool pump be sucking in or out?
I back washed everyday but now the sand filter is ineffective. I used another pump and it worked to get the cloudy dead algae out. Please state what sand you are using. I am using Clorox pool sand from Lowes.
How much algaecide/ clarifier did you use? And how long after that did the water finally clear up?
And btw, thanks for sharing these tips!
Thank you for your clip. It is helpful.
Where did you find that heater and how well does it work?
They work great if they get sun on the pad
Great video. Now Show us how to winterize please!!
Coming soon 👍
Great video. Details on pool heater!
I was wondering why he no longer needs it
I’m in the slam process day 3.
how long the sand filter last?
Love your videos.
How much Shock do I add if my pool is only 1500 gallons of water?
How long wil it take to get algae bloom?
@dalesbackyardofficial a 2:32 can you conect the pump stright to the pool with out the solar pad?? I have the same pool i was wondering if i can use it with out the soloar pad??
Yep. Don’t have to use the heating pad
Hey! Where’s your black pool liner on the bottom from ?
That’s just landscape fabric I set pool on. Can get it at any hardware/garden store
Do you run the filter constantly?
Yeah. I ran it for days
I’m a first time pool owner and I’ve tried everything and still my pool is not clearing up! I think something may be wrong with my filter pump!
Try backwashing it

It can take a while for the algae to die. Should go from bright green to cloudy. Then it can take days of running the filter to clear it.
Same with mine. I have a bestway 18x48 and it looks like a swamp... I just put ph lower in it, algaecide and 2 bags of shock.. The pool place said add another bag of shock tomorrow if needed.
When my pool is cloudy green and the algae is dead what next? How do I clear the water?
How do I get rid of dead algae
Run the filter
What if I just have a little pump, i dont think it can clear it
Donde conecto el baccum
What if you have a cartridge filter? Can’t backwash a cartridge filter.
Cartridge filters can be taken out and rinsed off. Can't backwash them that I know of.
How often do I change my sand?
5-8 years. Sand looses it's bite and smooth sand no longer filters
What mode should filter be running on when trying to remove algae?
Regular filter setting
❤
I have spent so much dam money on chemicals and I'm about to cut the side of pool ha
Me too. 🤣 I got the algae killed off, but now my water is cloudy and I’ve tried adding all kinds of chemicals and filter has been running for days and can’t seem to get my water to go clear again. Wondering if I should drain and start over.
Clarifier if sand filter. I believe he had clarifier algaecide. I prefer poly algaecide & a clarifier
Thanks so much.
My pool atm

Can you do this with a canister filter pump? Obviously I'll go through a lot of filters. I can't afford a sand filter pump this year.
Yes. You'll just have to rinse them often and replace more than usual
There is also a spray to help clean cartridges.
How much algaecide did you use? I have the same pool and it’s the same color of green and I’ve shocked it twice but still no luck 🥹😭
I think I used 1 whole bottle. That did the trick. But takes a few days to kill it all and a week for filter to clear the water
