    I always buy lots of flash frozen vegetables and fresh seasonal vegetables. I always have beans , Italian tomatoes, & pasta on the list. Olive oil and avocado oil. I usually buy some fish, a small amount of grass finished buffalo and a whole chicken. Also whatever fruit is in season. I buy spices and dried herbs, chick peas and lately been buying different grains that are new to me. I never ever forget the dark chocolate, the walnuts, almonds, & pumpkin seeds!!! Ever.😂 (I’m never without both purple and white cabbage . I cook adding them to soups & stews and use raw in salad. I think I might be addicted to them!)

    I try to buy pasture raised meat, chicken and eggs, wild caught fish, and organic produce. The quality and nutrition of conventionally raised food hear in the US is poor. The Mediterannean countries are so much better in that respect. Even if the produce is not certified organic in these countries, it is usually raised locally and naturally. My son just returned from a trip to Italy. He said the tomatoes there were so ripe and delicious compared to the pale, plastic-like ones sold here. Thanks, Dr. Anna.

      Thanks for sharing! I know what your son means - the tomatoes in Italy do taste incredible!! But buying produce in season here I’ve found helps the flavor of the food a lot- always my recommendation!

    We always buy a bottle of EEOV at Trader Joe’s, then a large bottle at Costco, which was rated as having good EEOV. Then we refill the smaller bottle with the spout from TJ’s with CostCo’s.
    We have a great store near us and always try to buy one new veg or fruit. I had never had Dragon Fruit for example- and love the chia seed pudding like flesh with a light citrus tang. The fish is fantastic too! We need to incorporate more beans though for sure.

    Dr Anna, can IBS people do okay on a Mediterranean diet??

    • @annapleetmd
      @annapleetmd  3 месяца назад +1

      excellent question! For those with IBS, its highly important to know what the specific trigger foods are that stimulate someone's symptoms, and then its important to avoid or decrease the eating of those foods. Lots of people with IBS have trouble digesting some legumes or some grains. It's important to do an elimination diet and identify those specific foods, and then modify the diet accordingly

    Yes, beans for sure, so the protein part of the diet is so hard! And dairy! However, I have found a dairy free coconut yogurt Im going to try.
    Are there certain legumes that are gentler on the system?

    • @annapleetmd
      @annapleetmd  3 месяца назад

      Good question. It’s possible lentils are easier than beans, some people react differently. It might also be a good idea to supplement with protein powders to make sure you can meet your needs okay. This would be a good question for your doctor

    • @annapleetmd
      @annapleetmd  Месяц назад

      good question - this totally depends on many factors! To know this, you'll want to start by assessing your diet and tracking what you currently eat, which can be done with many free apps or websites like Cronometer, MyFitnessPal, or FatSecret, just to name a few.

    • @annapleetmd

    I'm obsessed with tortilla chips! Help!

    • @annapleetmd
      @annapleetmd  4 месяца назад +1

      This is one of the trickiest things!! Our brains are primed to love salty, sweet and fatty foods. Tortilla chips are a weakness for so many of us. And often its impossible to not eat a whole bag at once.
      Managing our consumption of ultra-processed foods is something that is a lifelong challenge. I truly believe in the principle "out of sight, out of mind." The upfront self-control to not eat them is challenging but there is always a point of breakthrough where the benefits of avoiding unhealthy things eaten in excess tip the scale.

    • @ashtonrowe5824
      @ashtonrowe5824 4 месяца назад

      @annapleetmd Thanks so much! Are low calorie corn tortillas ok if I make my own chips out of those? And do you have any videos about soy and if it's good or bad if eaten in excess? Thank you!

    • @annapleetmd
      @annapleetmd  4 месяца назад +2

      Good questions! My take is always to think about foods in terms of their health benefit to us (or not). Even if we make our own desserts or snack foods, they are probably better than a store-bought, but they still classify as a dessert or a snack and should probably be enjoyed as a treat. Does that make sense?
