So excited we're getting a new Meyer's store in our town. Just love their produce! Thanks for info!!
That’s awesome ! Thanks for sharing :)
I try to buy pasture raised meat, chicken and eggs, wild caught fish, and organic produce. The quality and nutrition of conventionally raised food hear in the US is poor. The Mediterannean countries are so much better in that respect. Even if the produce is not certified organic in these countries, it is usually raised locally and naturally. My son just returned from a trip to Italy. He said the tomatoes there were so ripe and delicious compared to the pale, plastic-like ones sold here. Thanks, Dr. Anna.
Thanks for sharing! I know what your son means - the tomatoes in Italy do taste incredible!! But buying produce in season here I’ve found helps the flavor of the food a lot- always my recommendation!
We always buy a bottle of EEOV at Trader Joe’s, then a large bottle at Costco, which was rated as having good EEOV. Then we refill the smaller bottle with the spout from TJ’s with CostCo’s.
We have a great store near us and always try to buy one new veg or fruit. I had never had Dragon Fruit for example- and love the chia seed pudding like flesh with a light citrus tang. The fish is fantastic too! We need to incorporate more beans though for sure.
Thanks for sharing! Sounds like you’re on an amazing path already. So glad you’re liking the content 😊
@@annapleetmd I’m trying to do better!😁It’s not like I eat like this 100% of the time but I’d like to get to 80! So I very much enjoy your content. It’s inspiring 😁
Extra virgin Olive oil is my number one staple in our house.
Yes! My house as well. Thank you for sharing !
Thank you for your time and making these of video series . Its a common sense diet, but sometimes we need guidance to push us in the right direction. Your videos do this without the finger wagging.
My go to is always Avocados', cashews, walnuts and bananas
You’re so welcome! I’m thrilled you’re liking the videos. Thanks for sharing with us :)
I’m learning to enjoy new flavors
Pistachio butter w walnut oil
Creamy tahini ,chia seeds fig jelly 100% fruit juice sweetener , dates, prunes, RX sugar ( allulose) as stevia replacement, pink Himalayan salt and popcorn. 9:22
Wow pistachio butter that sounds divine! Thanks for sharing :)
Keep those bananas if that works for you, but also add a different fruit too😁
Great idea!!
I always have EVOO In my kitchen. And I like to have a piece of dark chocolate almost daily
Good choices!! Thanks for sharing with us :)
Oh, protein powder, theres something Ive never tried. Ok!
You are more help then the doctors on nutrition! IBS is not something they are good at helping!
Thank u for your interest ! I will try your suggestions! 😊
Aw I’m so glad I can provide you value. You’re so welcome :)
Dr Anna, can IBS people do okay on a Mediterranean diet??
excellent question! For those with IBS, its highly important to know what the specific trigger foods are that stimulate someone's symptoms, and then its important to avoid or decrease the eating of those foods. Lots of people with IBS have trouble digesting some legumes or some grains. It's important to do an elimination diet and identify those specific foods, and then modify the diet accordingly
Bubly/sparkling water is my always item lol
Always in my house too!!! Thanks for sharing :)
@@annapleetmdhi Anna, love your videos. Would you have a downloadable Mediterranean diet grocery list? I really want to try this diet. Thx
@@JimSonArtStudio Thank you so much! I am thrilled you like the content :). I am working on making a few PDFs that are available for download! Stay tuned.
Yes, beans for sure, so the protein part of the diet is so hard! And dairy! However, I have found a dairy free coconut yogurt Im going to try.
Are there certain legumes that are gentler on the system?
Good question. It’s possible lentils are easier than beans, some people react differently. It might also be a good idea to supplement with protein powders to make sure you can meet your needs okay. This would be a good question for your doctor
@@annapleetmd By the way which protein powder do you suggest ???
I am trying to find something more pure and unprossesed in Europe
How big should your portion size be in your grains and pasta in order to lose weight
good question - this totally depends on many factors! To know this, you'll want to start by assessing your diet and tracking what you currently eat, which can be done with many free apps or websites like Cronometer, MyFitnessPal, or FatSecret, just to name a few.
Is regular boxed pasta ok? Or does it need to be wheat pasta?
When you say regular boxed, what do you mean? Most pasta will be from wheat unless otherwise specified (if for example it’s from chickpeas, from lentils, etc.) wheat pasta is the classic variety
I need to change my grocery list. I for sure don’t have enough vegetables on there. I buy nuts in bulk and put them in the fridge.
That’s a great goal!
I always keep nuts, granola, and some dark chocolate
Staples in my house too! Thanks for sharing :)
Hi I was wondering if coconut oil, Avocado oil, really taste like what they are? I have been nervous to buy knowing I HATE BOTH🙄🙄‼️ thanks
excellent question! Coconut oil, if unrefined, tastes very coconut-y. But if you buy a refined type, it can be quite neutral. In my opinion, avocado oil is neutral as well, but others may disagree!
in my expereince the coconut taste is not noticeable in the foods I cook with the unrefined oil. Been using it a long time. Avacado oil..no taste at all.@@annapleetmd
thanks!@@CyntheaAnderson
Avocado oil definitely doesn’t taste like avocado in my opinion.
@@CyntheaAnderson thanks for sharing!
I buy as much Irish seasonal produce as i can. Or from the EU, better quality, and kinder to the planet. Top of my list is Irish butter and cheese.
I do love Irish products! Thanks for sharing with us :)
Berries - any kind
Awesome! Thanks for your view and thanks for sharing :)
I'm obsessed with tortilla chips! Help!
This is one of the trickiest things!! Our brains are primed to love salty, sweet and fatty foods. Tortilla chips are a weakness for so many of us. And often its impossible to not eat a whole bag at once.
Managing our consumption of ultra-processed foods is something that is a lifelong challenge. I truly believe in the principle "out of sight, out of mind." The upfront self-control to not eat them is challenging but there is always a point of breakthrough where the benefits of avoiding unhealthy things eaten in excess tip the scale.
@annapleetmd Thanks so much! Are low calorie corn tortillas ok if I make my own chips out of those? And do you have any videos about soy and if it's good or bad if eaten in excess? Thank you!
Good questions! My take is always to think about foods in terms of their health benefit to us (or not). Even if we make our own desserts or snack foods, they are probably better than a store-bought, but they still classify as a dessert or a snack and should probably be enjoyed as a treat. Does that make sense?
@@annapleetmd thank you! Yes absolutely
Greek yogurt
thanks for sharing!
How about whey protein powder?
yes, good question! Whey protein is a great supplement for those who consume dairy without issue. I even use it myself
@@annapleetmd thx for the response. I was recently diagnosed w/ Crohn’s disease. My gastroenterologist recommended the Mediterranean diet.
@@denisegallo9317 it's perfect for that! The med diet is one of the most anti-inflammatory and immune-supporting diets known.
Can't live without salt, ginger garlic, and onions.
Thanks for sharing!
Avocado
thanks for sharing!
I bought Tahini and now have no idea what to do with it😂
you're halfway there! tahini is awesome drizzled over veggies or meat, made into a salad dressing, or mixed in with a dip like hummus!
@@annapleetmd I’ll try those suggestions. Thanks.
@@KO-lw4lo or eat it on bread with honey and cinammon !!!!
I feel like I am always buying bananas
I have felt this way before! Good to change up the fruits we eat. Berries are fantastic and if it’s off-season then buying frozen is a good way to go
