Running late on this trip due to a busted switch. Started to get worried I wouldn't reach home for xmas. Not to mention that the train was loaded with cargo intended to be delivered to the post offices on the last day before xmas. Thankfully solutions were found and since we were on the ball early we got a slot in the west corridor instead of going over the Gjøvik Line. Please leave comment, even if it is just an emojie, it'll help a lot :D Thank you :D and Merry Christmas
My wife and I are very excited on our upcoming move to Norway and your videos is what started this dream of ours! We are so Thankful for your hard work and Dedication that you have for your channel. You have made our Christmas here in Tucson Arizona much brighter by allowing us to see our new Country at Christmas time. Thankyou so much and Merry christmas to you and all of your viewers! May God Bless us All!
I wish you and your Wife nothing but the best on your new endeavor. Moving to another country is exciting and a bit scary, because your way of living will completely change. It has been 30 years since I moved to the US from Germany and sometimes I still have trouble understanding Americans way of thinking lol. I miss my coffee time too 😂. Merry Christmas from San Manuel Arizona.
Awesome! What a treat to wake up to. Retired pastor here, healing from brain surgery. Your postings are almost literally "just what the doctor ordered"...beats my insomnia without pills, which are toxic to my system. I grew up near an RCA vinyl record company: the slamming of freight cars in the night was my lollaby. Now your posts give me a quieter song. Watching them raises questions I never asked about. I appreciate the view, the sounds, the work you do, and the education you provide. Thank you!
I’ve watched many of your videos these past few years. Your decision to sit hour after hour without uttering a sound shows discipline. Your silence frees the viewers to reflect without interruption. It shows humility and respect. You never draw attention to yourself. Would that there were more like you. ❤
Your videos are therapy. Long rides, no talking, only the genuine noise of the train. I would not be able to find sleep without your videos these days. THANK YOU🙏
I suffer from seasonal depression this time of year due to just how much stress I have in my life. Thank you RCG, for a nice video to put on in the background while i decompress after work. Merry Christmas and happy new year!
I feel you. This time of the year can take a hard toll, and a very important time to be able to pull back and just decompress. I'm so glad that my videos are able to be help you with the decompression.
These nighttime snow rides are my absolute favorite especially when there are blizzard conditions. I watch your (nightmare conditions on the mountain) almost every night. Thanks for tucking us in😌
Got my cup of coffee, Christmas music in the background and enjoying this beautiful morning treat. Thank you RailCowGirl for everything you do. I love your videos. It truly shows your passion for your job and your love for your beautiful Country. Merry Christmas to you and all your viewers. And be safe to all of you who are traveling!
RCG, I know you have been thinking about making changes, but my wife and I will always respect you no matter what you decide. You have introduced us to the beauty of Norway with your beautifully shot and edited videos. May the Holidays be excellent for you and yours!
Changes does not mean that things are going to disappear it will just be different :D And thank you so so much for the support :D I will continue to bring you the beauty of Norway for the foreseeable future :D
I like the fact that you included the kw rating of the engine in this video. 35 years ago, I started working on towboats on the Mississippi River. My dad was Chief Engineer on the boats for a different company, not necessarily a rival. His company mainly pushed grain barges, my company pushed coal. He and I worked on boats built by the same shipyard. They were powered by EMD 710 in 16 cylinder configuration. There were three of these on a boat. Each EMD produced 3250kw. So, each boat produced 10,500 hp and 9750 kw. Our normal tow was 35 barges, southbound. Each barge was 1500 US tons. So, a normal tow was 52,500 US tons. Great job for someone with no kids, 30 days on, 30 days off. I quit that job 24 years ago, after my son was born. Now, I'm a Tool and Die Maker. I enjoy your content. Thank you.
Love your RailVideos. Rail videos are a great way to tour Norway I first got hooked watching trains as a child near the port of Duluth on Lake Superior. I would hop on my bicycle and pedal to a gravel pit near The Duluth Missabe and Iron Ridge Railroad right-of-way. I would play for a few hours in the sand and gravel until a Yellowstone came thundering down the line pulling a load of full iron ore cars. The Yellowstone was a 2-8-8-4 articulated steam locomotive. It was huge. It was noisy. The engine chuffed and spat steam. The great wheels clacked over the rail joints. I covered my ears as the driver sounded the steam whistle to greet me. The ground shook. The noise was deafening and awesome. Thunder storms never freighted me as a child after experiencing a Yellowstone. Thanks for giving me the opportunity to watch trains again after 60 years.
The lighting across the whole field of view is great. Incredible detail visible despite being shot at night. My favourite leg of all your routes is Oslo to Honefoss. The snow covered landscape and christmas decorations are a treat. Merry Christmas to you.
Thank you for helping me get through some tuff nights, I suffer from ptsd and came across your channel one nite dealing with bad anxiety uggh. Your videos have help get through some rough nights.. thank you so much for taking the time to create such a great channel. Cheers from the USA 🇺🇸 and Merry Christmas
Wow! This drive home for christmas is so fitting for the queen youtuber of railway driver's videos. This camera can record an astonishing amount of color at night.
Dear Ms K, took my 2nd trip with you on this run, just as lovely as the first one only to discover people, places and things I missed on the first trip of course as usual. You have supplied us with an endless source of discovery, joy and peace. I still insist that you will remain an international treasure no matter whether you fly, jump or ? in the future and I will always be your passenger on the RailCowGirl line. Forever in your debt and so grateful, Roy🙏🙏❤❤
Norway is such a beautiful country. I would love to one day come and visit and explore its vast beauty. I'm from Canada and we are so far behind, the rail system there is phenomenal.
Your videos are so unique. I've been watching them for a few years now. Your country is so pretty and clean. Thank you for sharing these videos with us!
Thank you for taking me along on this fantastic journey. Merry Christmas and I pray you have a blessed new year. See you on the next trip. Stay safe out there
As always your videography makes me feel as though I'm sitting next to you switching you drive! That alone is a wonderful gift from you to all your viewers. Thank you so very much for the wonderful video. Have a Merry Christmas and and a grand new year! You are an amazing young woman.
Excellent ride, RCG! A Christmas present in a different way. Your rides are always a treat to watch. Wishing you and your family Merry Christmas, and a good 2024. Thank you.
Another beautifully made video in a wonderful country with matching transport infrastructure. Thank you for the sheer generosity behind all these gifts from so many years. Those helped me and some of us in tough times to think about something else or not at all, to focus, meditate or, yes, sleep. Thank you again, have a merry Christmas and 12 good months of 2024.
Merry Christmas. So glad you made it home. It’s like a small victory when you make it home for a holiday in any transportation industry. I’ve been stuck away from home many a Christmas and New Year.
Close to a thousand people now who are enchanted by your journey! At a desolate time in my life, I find great solace in watching your train travelling deeper and deeper into the night…
Hi RCG! I just got this nice video now, Merry Christmas to you, and Happy New Year, sorry its belated! One day in the future, i would love to travel the Bergen Line, with detour Flam. Looking forward to seeing more, 😊😊😊😊
Mean while in Norway: Mountains, fjords, hills and rivers. Mountain passes and tunnels. "Hey! Guys, can we put the steepest rail in the middle of the Oslo?" "Sure!"
LOL The steepest line is the Flåm Line with its 55‰ (5.5%), it branches off from Myrdal station at 866m above sea level and goes down to sea level. :D But yes. The Brynsbakken slope is the steepest on the east part of Norway :)
I really enjoy your train cab ride videos and enjoy seeing the scenery outside of the cab which is very beautiful and I wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas Thank You. 🎄🇸🇯☃️🇸🇯🎀🇸🇯☃️🇸🇯🎄
I wanted a White Christmas and this is my White Christmas. It is beautiful. Thank You. The timing of this video was spot on. I am so impressed with how good your camera technology and skill catches this trip in the most stunning, memorable and accurate way.
Looking forward to some more snow piercing vids this winter. Happy Holidays to you and your family! May your signals be forever green, and your switches forever heated.
Thank you for another beautiful video - I find these so soothing and relaxing. You truly live in a paradise. Merry Christmas to you and your family and all the best for 2024.
Always love it when you post new content. It's great to see a side of Norway that may people don't. Hope you have a fantastic Christmas and a very Happy New Year!
Hello there rail cowgirl. Would just like to wish you and your family a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, and thank you so much for all the wonderful videos. I've been watching you now for a long time. Thanks again and Merry Christmas from me and my family to you. Hope you have a great New Year.
What a lovely seasonal gift for us all! Thank you RCG for yet another brilliantly shot and sparkling clear video, and thank you for all the work you put into these films. Your comment about all the stations and halts there used to be on the Randsfjord line drove me straight to the route map on Wikipedia, and goodness me, how many there were! I was struck by how close some were to each other -- for example Kattfoss halt just 1.1km south of Geithus station, or Hagerbru and Tyristrand, less than 1km apart. I could observe also that while there were a number of halts developed along the stretch of the line from Vikersund to Hønefoss in the early 1930s, there were some which had been built in the 1950s and 1960s, so presumably there continued to be worthwhile passenger traffic as late as that. Was it improvement in the roads generally which made the train less attractive for locals to use regularly and led to the closures, or was it part of a general political thinning down of the railways? You certainly deserve a good holiday rest! Merry Christmas!
Yes, it was the decreasing amount of passengers and the requirement to cut spending that resulted in the demise of the route itself. There has been talks on reopening as late as four years ago, but the travel time compared to car shut it down for good.
Wow, what a super trip! I've been following you since the early days of hcg and your journeys are just as fresh and interesting today as those years ago. No two shifts are ever the same! Have an excellent and loving Christmas, with peace and many happy travels in 2024.
Thanks you so much :D Thank you for being part of this incredible journey :D That is what is so interesting with this job :D No day is the same :D Like this trip. A busted switch and the trip around was incredible :D Merry Christmas :D
I just watched this video again. (I never get tired of rewatching your videos! To me, they are as fresh as the day they were posted.) I really enjoy your factoids about the line, etc. They are very informative. Now that you are running a lot at night, I noticed you always dim your headlights for oncoming traffic when the road is near the track. A most kind and thoughtful action on your part. Thanks, again, for the wonderful videos you post! Hope you have a great summer!😊
I have no idea whether I got recommended this because its Christmas eve or I'm a transport enthusiast. But watching this makes me feel warm and fuzzy on the inside, because theres alot of people who work on Christmas eve and are tryna make their way back to their homes and families for the holiday🥰 Oh, I'm also learning Rapid Transit Systems in school for my specialisation, we learn about railway signalling and everything I saw here is soo cool and exactly as I've expected of a signalling system
Absolutely wonderful. I traveled this line last year and, though in reverse, from Bergen to Oslo, and it was absolutely captivating. Favorite train ride I've ever experienced, and I'm dying to come back someday to see it again.
It is a wonderful line no matter what time of year :D Except for that dreadful November where everything is web and there are no leafs one the trees. lol Merry Christmas :D
@@RailCowGirl Thank you. Merry Christmas you too from the Netherlands. :) It was februari actually, when I last went. It was beautiful to see the world burried in snow, and the long rows of trees along the lakes surrounded by mountains. Wonderful combination with my love for trains. Hopefully, and perhaps I'll still one day manage to achieve my boyhood dream of becoming a driver myself :D
Merry Christmas! Fun fact, the remote transmitter for trams in Oslo where we pushed a button to change the switch points in the street track was called a "Sarasota sender". Hehe :D
Thank you. What could be more beautiful than travelling through snowy Norway on a clear night. Don't know if it's standard practice but I thought it was very considerate that you dim your lights when running parallel to a road so as not to dazzle drivers. 😊
I took the midday train from Bergen to Oslo on Dec 19 and was amazed by this scenic rail. Being a regular viewer of your videos it was great to be this time on the "real" spot. Thank you for your videos. It was one of the drivers for me to book this connection.. Happy holidays! Take care
Selv takk :D Hvis jeg får anbefale en god serie, så anbefaler jeg "For All Mankind" på Apple TV+. En knakende god serie om et alternativt utfall av romkappløpet :D
CAN'T WAIT to join you on the trip! many thanks for all your wonderful voyages (which I have accompanied you on many times) and best wishes for the holidays and the New Year!!
From France. Thank you for offering us this great video. Night trips, by train, are my favorites. At night, everything is quiet, a little mysterious; the mind wanders… it’s relaxing… I hope you will find time in 2024 to offer us other videos... ;-) especially at night :-) With a little advance, I offer you my best wishes for 2024, for you and for all Norwegians (women and men). Jean-Jacques.
What a great Christmas gift. Slowly watching all your previous videos and always see something differentl in each one, like the sky in this video. Thank you.
It was so bright and clear. Mesmerising and so fitting for the time of year :D The snow makes these dark and longs nights much more brighter and liveable :D
God jul to the whole of Norway and especially to Rail Cow Girl. You will never know how often and how forward I look to your videos. Peaceful and relaxing and beautiful. Thank you.
What a wonderful Christmas gift for all of us @railcowgirl, so grateful for all the investment and work that is so evident in your videos. I make repeat trips with you but they never lose their magic or fascination. I am constantly seeing new farms, factories, people, businesses and scenery that I missed on the first trip. We all owe you such a debt of gratitude and I hope you feel all the love we send your way. Whatever paths you choose in the new year I look forward to your next adventures, whether on land, sea or in the air, and wish you much happiness and success, Roy
I really enjoy these rides, and being able to see infrastructure and the side of cities with more ”blue collar working areas” if that makes sense! I work in logistics myself, and this side is fascinating to see.
Your videos are tremendous great and I enjoy them that much! 16:10 In my previous job as a train driver in the Taunus "mountains" in Germany I've "only" ridden passenger trains. But my old line also had a maximum gradient of 25‰. If the tracks were wet or icy, it was sometimes difficult to bring the train to a halt on the platform, but I guess you know that. 😁 2:24:53 A moose or Rudolph The Red Nose Reindeer after all? I wish you a wonderful christmas, full of magic and glitter. 🎄
Yep, On the Bergen line the average slope is 22‰ and we have the extremely steep Flåm Railay as well with its 55‰ but there is no freight traffic on that line :)
Vote for carp is the true testament to the awesomeness of this individual! A true hero and servant of a community that should cherish every second for his vigilance. God Jul @vot4forcarp!
Wow, we got a Christmas present from you to us! And a Merry Christmas to you in advance, now that you luckily got home! (And a Merry Christmas in advance to all the train divers out there who will be on service that day.)
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you too :D We're all looking forward to having these holidays off. Some must work, but this time I'm finally off! :D
Wishing you Kristine and all your followers a very merry Christmas, hoping santa brings your wishes true.. and thank you for sharing your videos to us once again 🎅🎁🎁🎁🎄😊
Soothing and yet exciting to watch, many aspects of Norway are covered. I've been watching these vids for almost three years now. Wishing you a safe & happy Christmas. x
Merry christmas RCG. Another lovely video. That trucks main bean at 02:14:00 are insane How many people apply for every train driver job in Norway? In the UK its about 1000 for every single job I'm on day 127 of learning Norwegian on Duolingo
Thank you! Merry Christmas to you too! Yes, I noticed that myself. I remember coming down there and thinking "I sure hope he remembers to dim down." It was like a supernova on wheels. LOL
I love seeing all the towns and the intricate web of rails. Thanks so much for making these videos! I am am glad you made it home in time. Merry Christmas!
Thank you very much RCG, this is what I was waiting for all the year! Christmas ride on snow covered Bergen Line, simply beautiful... it's just magical :)
Thank you for excellent video travelling across Norway. There is always a magical atmosphere at Christmas time when the snow falls and it is even more special when you're on a train travelling through the winter wonderland!

This was amazing! (As always.) Thanks for everything you do for railfans.
Thank you so much! Glad you like them!
Really awesome. Actually one of the best on RUclips Really cool
Thank you so much!
A busted switch and the trip around was incredible :D
Merry Christmas :D

Love from Australia. 🇭🇲
Merry Christmas to you all. ❤
Merry Christmas! :D
Enda en fantastisk togtur som jeg koser meg med og det viktigste av alt så ønsker jeg deg en riktig god jul
Ønsker deg en riktig god jul :D
I just watched this video again. (I never get tired of rewatching your videos! To me, they are as fresh as the day they were posted.) I really enjoy your factoids about the line, etc. They are very informative. Now that you are running a lot at night, I noticed you always dim your headlights for oncoming traffic when the road is near the track. A most kind and thoughtful action on your part. Thanks, again, for the wonderful videos you post! Hope you have a great summer!😊
I have no idea whether I got recommended this because its Christmas eve or I'm a transport enthusiast.
But watching this makes me feel warm and fuzzy on the inside, because theres alot of people who work on Christmas eve and are tryna make their way back to their homes and families for the holiday🥰
Oh, I'm also learning Rapid Transit Systems in school for my specialisation, we learn about railway signalling and everything I saw here is soo cool and exactly as I've expected of a signalling system
That is totally awesome! :D Welcome to the transit family :D
Absolutely wonderful.
I traveled this line last year and, though in reverse, from Bergen to Oslo, and it was absolutely captivating.
Favorite train ride I've ever experienced, and I'm dying to come back someday to see it again.
It is a wonderful line no matter what time of year :D Except for that dreadful November where everything is web and there are no leafs one the trees. lol
Merry Christmas :D
@@RailCowGirl Thank you. Merry Christmas you too from the Netherlands. :)
It was februari actually, when I last went.
It was beautiful to see the world burried in snow, and the long rows of trees along the lakes surrounded by mountains.
Wonderful combination with my love for trains.
Hopefully, and perhaps I'll still one day manage to achieve my boyhood dream of becoming a driver myself :D
Merry Christmas from Sarasota!🎅🎄🙏
Merry Christmas! Fun fact, the remote transmitter for trams in Oslo where we pushed a button to change the switch points in the street track was called a "Sarasota sender". Hehe :D
Thank you. What could be more beautiful than travelling through snowy Norway on a clear night. Don't know if it's standard practice but I thought it was very considerate that you dim your lights when running parallel to a road so as not to dazzle drivers. 😊
Merry Christmas to all Norwegian railway crews from Manila, Philippines🌲🌲⭐🌟
Same to you! Merry Christmas!
I took the midday train from Bergen to Oslo on Dec 19 and was amazed by this scenic rail. Being a regular viewer of your videos it was great to be this time on the "real" spot. Thank you for your videos. It was one of the drivers for me to book this connection.. Happy holidays! Take care
MERRY CHRISTMAS
❄️🛐🎅🤶🦌🎄🦌🦌🦌☃️🙏❄️
Merry Christmas :D
Best wishes to a lovely lady and her family.
Thank you :D Happy holidays to you too :D
Ny, flott video. Denne redder en ellers noe traurig tv-kveld. Hjertelig takk.
Ønsker deg en riktig god jul!😀
Selv takk :D Hvis jeg får anbefale en god serie, så anbefaler jeg "For All Mankind" på Apple TV+. En knakende god serie om et alternativt utfall av romkappløpet :D
CAN'T WAIT to join you on the trip! many thanks for all your wonderful voyages (which I have accompanied you on many times) and best wishes for the holidays and the New Year!!
Thank you so much! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you too! :D
Merry Christmas to all of you .😊
Merry Christmas! :D
From France.
Thank you for offering us this great video.
Night trips, by train, are my favorites.
At night, everything is quiet, a little mysterious; the mind wanders… it’s relaxing…
I hope you will find time in 2024 to offer us other videos... ;-) especially at night :-)
With a little advance, I offer you my best wishes for 2024, for you and for all Norwegians (women and men).
Jean-Jacques.
Thanks a lot! All the best to you as well.
Thanks!
Thank you so much!
Love the snow-covered evergreen trees! Such a great video, thanks! I couldn’t spot the old platforms, will have to try again.
Glad you enjoyed!
I wish you and yours a Merry Christmas
Merry Christmas to you too :D
What a great Christmas gift. Slowly watching all your previous videos and always see something differentl in each one, like the sky in this video. Thank you.
It was so bright and clear. Mesmerising and so fitting for the time of year :D The snow makes these dark and longs nights much more brighter and liveable :D
@RailCowGirl it was definitely brighter. When I lived in Utah, snowy nights were always a treat.
Merry Christmas to you too!!
God jul to the whole of Norway and especially to Rail Cow Girl. You will never know how often and how forward I look to your videos. Peaceful and relaxing and beautiful. Thank you.
Wow, thank you!
Thumbs up to any video which show a map of what's going to happen. Attention to details and all that jazz.
Thank you, glad you found it helpful :)
Thank you so much, Roy. Thank you. for being a part of this journey.
Thank you so much for giving us this gift of beautiful images. We hope you get home safely for Christmas...

En riktig God Jul og Godt Nyttår til deg også :D
Nice trip. Merry Christmas 🎄🎁🎉
Thank you! Merry Christmas to you too :D
My personal escape therapy. Thank you.
Thank YOU for watching :D And listening :D Would you like more ASMR-videos? Like nature sounds? Ambisonic sound and visuals from falling snow etc?
I really enjoy these rides, and being able to see infrastructure and the side of cities with more ”blue collar working areas” if that makes sense! I work in logistics myself, and this side is fascinating to see.
Glad you like them!
My best wishes for a Merry Christmas and may 2024 bring only peace, love and joy ❤❤❤❤
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you too
Your videos are tremendous great and I enjoy them that much!
2:24:53 A moose or Rudolph The Red Nose Reindeer after all?
I wish you a wonderful christmas, full of magic and glitter. 🎄
Yep, On the Bergen line the average slope is 22‰ and we have the extremely steep Flåm Railay as well with its 55‰ but there is no freight traffic on that line :)
@@RailCowGirl Uh yeah, saw your videos of the Flåm Line, love it.
So beautiful to watch…thank you
Big love from London x
Thank you so much 😊
An early Christmas present from RailCowGirl, thanks!
Merry Christmas!
Hey everyone, a great way to relax is to watch this while listening to Japanese Fusion Jazz on RUclips. 🥰
Thank you :D

2:24:50 that reindeer(?) got lucky...

Soothing and yet exciting to watch, many aspects of Norway are covered. I've been watching these vids for almost three years now. Wishing you a safe & happy Christmas. x
Thank you :D Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you too :D
Merry christmas RCG. Another lovely video.
That trucks main bean at 02:14:00 are insane
How many people apply for every train driver job in Norway? In the UK its about 1000 for every single job
I'm on day 127 of learning Norwegian on Duolingo
Glad you like them!
god jul alle sammen🎉
God jul til deg også :D
Thank you very much RCG, this is what I was waiting for all the year! Christmas ride on snow covered Bergen Line, simply beautiful... it's just magical :)
@2:24:50 I was wondering if there was any big wildlife roaming the tracks at night! Off just in time! Merry Christmas!
That is correct. Moose, deers and other animals cross the tracks during the night. They are mostly seen at dusk and dawn :D Merry Christmas to you too
Thank you for excellent video travelling across Norway. There is always a magical atmosphere at Christmas time when the snow falls and it is even more special when you're on a train travelling through the winter wonderland!
