What a wild ride through the snow. Been watching some of the other videos as well, and if I had a stressful day these videos help me relax. But what really make these videos special are all the annotations explaining historical locations, events or other interesting things along the way
Hello R.C.G., First I thank the Lord for people like you who share their experiences but don't know the actual positive effect it may have on others, you do it just out of the goodness your heart and I thank you. I have been watching your videos for years now. When I was young in the US, West Virginia I lived in a house by a creek, and across the creek was a train track that ran parallel to the creek. Each night there would be much anticipation because the train did not come by every night. When it did falling asleep would be so simple. The sound of the train going over the track and all the other sounds that came with an old coal mining train barrelling through meant for brief meditation and quick sleep. Of course, at that age, I had no idea I was meditating. In the past when watching your videos I could not hear the outside sounds. But your videos are so enjoyable I would watch them without sound and play music. Today I saw your train covered in snow and I had to take the ride. Unannounced to me, once the train started to move I could hear all of the sounds. @:14:00 mark in Bulken - Voss you had to let another train go by. Once you started I could hear every sound of you starting, the wipers, each click over the tracks, the sound of you picking up speed in the tunnel. I could tell when you exited the tunnel by sound, because for some reason I could now hear all the outside sounds and I loved it. I have not been watching as much as I did in the past because the sound always seemed to be muffled like there was a hand over the mic. I don't know how long ago the sound in your videos changed (or if I missed something in the past and it was always like this), but I would say for those who love to watch, having the sound with the ride is such an added enhancement, it is something I can't describe from a meditation standpoint accept to say WONDERFUL! The moment @2:26:15 when you come out of the tunnel, was visually stunning. I believe that moment could only be captured by someone who does what you do. Keep up the good work R.C.G. and thanks for such wonderful videos.
Riding in the train cab during a blizzard is very exciting but also very difficult to see in front of you but it is still very beautiful and amazing to see the countryside, but you definitely did plow right on through it really well stay safe, take care and Thank You. 🇳🇴🇳🇴🇳🇴🇳🇴🚂🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🇳🇴🇳🇴🇳🇴🇳🇴
What an absolute treat. Even though Canada (were I am from) has had 8 out of the 10 coldest places on earth. I will never complain again. It's so very cool to see the tunnels lit all up. Reminds me of the "Mines of Moria"
There is nothing I love more to get focused at work than this playing. The noise, the adventure, looking up to see where we are in the journey, this is the perfect companion for WFH. Thank you!!
It's amazing how quickly I went from, "There is NO way I am watching a train travel through the snow" to "Ok..this isn't bad..maybe I'll watch for a few minutes" all the way to "Hmmm I wonder how much it costs to fly to Norway?" 😃
Thats how i felt about two years ago when i watched the first vid here. Since then i dont think a day has gone by where ive not stuck the live stream in the telly. And also been wanting to take a trip to Norway, i will make it happen one day.
Bergensbanan has that effect on people. It's a really beautiful scenery and amazing how one can go from no snow to all out blizzard to no snow (even late spring and sunshine) in mere 8 hours or so. I watched the full journey back in 2010 (if i recall correctly) and it really made me want to go there. But no-one has been willing to go with me and i wanted someone i cared to share the journey with to come along. Going alone would not be fun.
1:40:00 Yes, it was great. I went to Lillehammer and a train to Bergen too. Just like being in a winter snow globe. Fantastic. I just wondered what all those people did way out there in nowhere. So very far from town and snowed inn for months. 😮
Hay! You driving your train thru the beautiful snowy Norway is like a ZEN relaxing thing for me. Amazing to be able to join your little adventures. /Cheers from Sweden
Absolutely marvelous. Your camera gives us amazing visuals! Stay safe. This week is the American holiday, Thanksgiving. You and your fabulous channel will be included in my list of things I’m thankful to have in my life. Peace and happiness to you and yours.
Thank you for this video and I have nearly travelled with you for the whole journey, but I did it over three days. You cetainly earned your wages with this trip and I was very impressed with those tunnels, I doubt here in the UK, that we could make such things. Can they not retro fit heated front screens for thos locos. I am 83 and can hardly walk and have thus become an armchair world traveller thanks to kind people like you producing these RUclips videos.
Thank you, I'm so glad my videos are able to give you some sort of travel :D I don't understand why people thing that we don't window heating on these locomotives. The window heating is very present and installed. What people don't seem to grasp is the qualities of the snow. The Sami people of Norway have over 300 words for snow. Each word describes the qualities the conditions etc etc for the snow. Whilst we in modern society just have snow, a word that explains just that we're talking about frozen water. This snow was sticky, even though it was way below zero and the winds were carrying easily. It was also very fine grained which makes it very compact. For the windows the reason that it it just don't., melt off is because of the amount coming, the snow that does melt turns to ice because of the wind chill and sun zero temperatures. The ice layer a becomes thicker and thicker to the point that it just becomes a insulating layer trapping the heat within. I hope this gave some insight into the dynamics of snow. Stay safe. :)
Oh thank you for sharing this! I enjoyed all 5 hours of this; even thought it took me a couple of days to watch the entire trip. It was so nice to bundle up and sip on a hot cocoa while going through all that snow. I will admit to being a bit nervous when the train was going through that white out. Having driven, via car, through white outs I know how hard it can be it can be; even in a train you need to see where you are going. I also enjoyed those notes that you posted, that added so much to the trip. Greetings from Colorado where the elevation, where I live, is just a bit higher than your highest point on that trip. So happy to have watched it all.
I loved this video! I hope we'll see more. It's about the only snow I get to see here in southern Nevada. Every time I was getting ready to ask a question, you put up a description box about what was happening. Thank you for reading my mind.
This was an amazing ride, but my most vivid memory was one or two years ago in December, you uploaded a trip in crisp winter wonderland with northern lights in evening time. That was quite a vibe. I pray we can hope for another Christmas gift like that. Take care :)
I've just watched this and booked a flight to Bergen so I can get the same train to Oslo. Thanks for recording and sharing this - I can't wait to see it all in person!

@@RailCowGirl - What is the light in the sky at 2:44:46? At first I thought it was maybe the sun shining through clouds but it seemed to move and then disappear?
Another magnificent video, thanks so much. I especially like the effects of the light at the start of the run up the fjord (yes the snow later is pretty fabulous, too!) but the contrasts between the lights from the houses, the gradual glimmer from the sky and the outline of the mountains and the careful way you manage brightness of the tunnel lighting for us makes for really great photography.
Wow! That was some train ride! This "Blizzard Run" was a lot more intense that previous ones.Since you turned your loco into a snow plow do you also get pain for doing maintenance-of-way? Thanks for another great video!!!

5 hours of driving and filming, great fun, as usual, beautiful views and this magical snow, sometimes together with the head, make amazing impressions. Bravo, more films like this. Greetings from Poland - no snow lately.
There can't be too many people who have watched this epic video from start to finish - but I am one more to add to the tally, OK, it's taken me three days (on & off) with grandkids to look after and Christmas preparations to attend to etc, but I thoroughly enjoyed this amazing journey. The mind boggles as to how much it must have cost to engineer this line - the amount of tunnelling is incredible. What a great watch. btw, who is Naiomi?
What a sensational return video. From the clockwork Sony FX3's stunning recording, having 5+ hours to watch, to having to clean off the snow because of the plow work - thank you.
You have the best videos on RUclips. I love the background noise! I use it often for more relaxed sleeping. You are an asset to both the country and the Norwegian rail industry. I loved seeing that 'secret' cavernous turntables room near Fines. Also enjoyed learning that the ice planet Hoth scene from Star Wars ep 5 was filmed there.

I have been subscribed since your passenger driving days. Then to now your videos have only gotten better. Thank you for these wonderful adventures!
Believe me when I say you are the pro here. I am fortunate to have discovered your channel and have enjoyed it all along. Your videos remind me of my father who was a freight conductor. I was lucky as a child to ride on the train with. Your videos make those memories come alive.
I am watching this right now and there is one thing that caught me by surprise: the locomotive front windows covered in frost after some climbing - I would thought its windows would be well heated to prevent such a thing from happening and with more effective wipers plus a jet wash system capable of flushing the excess of snow promptly , not?! Thank you for these posts which are gorgeous. I have been to this line but the opposite way on the way to Bergen and I have fond memories of that journey!
Is this an ordinary winters-day on job? I hope not! Outstanding RCG!! I was exhausted at Hønefoss! You are the QUEEN in this genre! How is the Rc4 over the mountain in winter?
Well, in sense it i sa very standard day at work when the conditions are right. Like I've said so many times, there isn't a single day that is the same :)
Fantastic footage RCG 👍🏼😁. That Sony Alpha FX3 has got incredible dynamic range 😯 Detail in the dark shadows but also perfect skies. Makes for really great viewing, along with the amazing Norwegian scenery as well of course 😉👍🏼
Yep The Sony FX3 does have an incredible range. It was a "step down" from 6K, but with a Full frame sensor, 4K and "larger pixels" it will be much much more light sensitive :D

I post as aften as I can, pelase understand that my work schedule is pretty crazy. :( They are driving us hard. if it was possible to balance it more with youtube, I would.
Absolutely fascinating. On one side of the mountains, I thought it was nighttime it was snowing so heavily and once you crsted the top, it all blue skies and sunshine. Those folks that live in these small towns must be some seriously hardy people to endure that much snow. I had to watch the whole thing in full screen. I do admit I skipped forward on some of the tunnel parts.
I wonder what these people do for a living that live along this trek well outside of the towns & villages. Yeah I skip the long tunnel runs as well. Amazing infrastructure.

Thank you beyond for this year 2023, of sharing ur world that has given me quite a bit of peaceful times. Merry Christmas and a blessed New Year ✌🙏💚
Same to you!
Riding in the train cab during a blizzard is very exciting but also
very difficult to see in front of you but it is still very beautiful and
amazing to see the countryside, but you definitely did plow right
on through it really well stay safe, take care and Thank You.

CHOO CHOO!
What an absolute treat. Even though Canada (were I am from) has had 8 out of the 10 coldest places on earth. I will never complain again. It's so very cool to see the tunnels lit all up. Reminds me of the "Mines of Moria"
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it :)
Thank you so much for your videos. Without them, I would never know the beauty of your country.
Glad you like them! :D
Great video, thank you. It was fun watching the change from rain to snow to blizzard and back to snow in the sunlight. Truly enjoyable!!!
There is nothing I love more to get focused at work than this playing. The noise, the adventure, looking up to see where we are in the journey, this is the perfect companion for WFH. Thank you!!
I am so glad you are posting again and it's a blizzard video! Happy day!
I'm posting as often as I can considering my crazy schedule. They are driving us hard.
It was a long time since last video and I am very happy to see a new video from Railcowgirl.
Many thanks for your time to make this film
Thank you very much!
Its nice to see the snow that is always on the weather charts for Norway, thanks.
Enjoy!
It's amazing how quickly I went from, "There is NO way I am watching a train travel through the snow" to "Ok..this isn't bad..maybe I'll watch for a few minutes" all the way to "Hmmm I wonder how much it costs to fly to Norway?" 😃
Brilliant! :D we welcome you!
Right? It looks so remote. I guess it's like going to Yukon from where we are. Endless nothingness for hours. @@coloradobrad6779
Reminds me of my home in British Columbia. Always wanted to ride in the front window so this was a fabulous experience for me. Thank you for doing it
You'¨re welcome :D It is a pretty different view from view indeed :D
Hay! You driving your train thru the beautiful snowy Norway is like a ZEN relaxing thing for me. Amazing to be able to join your little adventures. /Cheers from Sweden
Tusen tack :D Welcome aboard!
Absolutely marvelous. Your camera gives us amazing visuals! Stay safe. This week is the American holiday, Thanksgiving. You and your fabulous channel will be included in my list of things I’m thankful to have in my life. Peace and happiness to you and yours.
Awe, thank you so much!! Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving with your loved ones.
*Thank You RCG* 😊❤😊❤😊
I keep your videos running on an extra monitor as I am working - they are so relaxing and help me focus. 😊❤
Thank you so much for watching, and I'm glad my videos helps you in that way :D
Great work on this one. Really liked the part where the train plowed through the blizzard like a boss.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you, I'm so glad my videos are able to give you some sort of travel :D
I don't understand why people thing that we don't window heating on these locomotives.
Wow! Nice going! So glad you enjoyed the whole video :D
I loved this video! I hope we'll see more. It's about the only snow I get to see here in southern Nevada. Every time I was getting ready to ask a question, you put up a description box about what was happening. Thank you for reading my mind.
Glad you enjoyed it!
This was an amazing ride, but my most vivid memory was one or two years ago in December, you uploaded a trip in crisp winter wonderland with northern lights in evening time. That was quite a vibe. I pray we can hope for another Christmas gift like that. Take care :)
I hope the timing will be right to catch something like that again :)
@@RailCowGirl if not really unlucky i think you should be able to film that (det är mycket norrsken just nu.)
I've just watched this and booked a flight to Bergen so I can get the same train to Oslo. Thanks for recording and sharing this - I can't wait to see it all in person!
Best video by far! These really do wonders for making me relax, or just as a pleasant background noise. Thank you!
You are back !!!! nice !
Wonderful to see you post again RCG. Your video journeys are the best.
Thank you :D I try to post as often as I can considering my crazy work schedule.
Finally, how long have I been waiting for the next video. Awesome footage quality and spectacular landscapes. I like the calmness of train riding. I hope we don't have to wait that long again :D
I hope you don't have to, but that is completely up to my employer... my schedule has not been very spare time friendly...
I understand, I can sympathize with that. Wish you a more spare time friendly schedule and also awesome rides in the cab @@RailCowGirl
The day you retire we're going to miss you and your videos a lot. I have 7 years to go. You have a nice job, smart to supplement an income by filming it. Glad your company allowed you to do so.
Well, would you not want more drone footage? :D
You are amazing. This video is amazing. I'm so grateful RUclips put you in my suggestions! This might be the thing I fall asleep to now.
Thank you :D
Love this one with the sky gradually getting lighter. Thanks!!
Glad you like it!
Thank you :) so glad you liked it :)
Wow! That was some train ride! This "Blizzard Run" was a lot more intense that previous ones.Since you turned your loco into a snow plow do you also get pain for doing maintenance-of-way? Thanks for another great video!!!
I'm semi-retired and now volunteering as a coach driver for OAPs in Australia. I wish I could volunteer as a train driver! Your vids are a godsend - a chicken soup for the soul! And I particularly enjoy the 'Norway In A Nutshell' runs, as I did it as my friends' 2009 wedding gift to their guests in Bergen, and again on the long way home! Kudos to RailCowGirl, you are wonderful!
Excellent viewing at 40C, or any time. Thank you for sharing these. I hope you are doing well and staying sane. Best wishes from North Carolina, US.
OMG... It's a little after 3am here and I've just watched this entire video non stop (1 x loo break).
Have to get up for work in 2hrs!? 😳😳
Love these videos, thank you for taking us all with you on your travels. It allows us to see such beautiful places, we may not ever get to see in person. 😊
Thank YOU for watching :D This wouldn't be possible without you :D
5 hours of driving and filming, great fun, as usual, beautiful views and this magical snow, sometimes together with the head, make amazing impressions. Bravo, more films like this. Greetings from Poland - no snow lately.
Thank you :D Yep, 5 hours continuously. The technology of today is pretty impressive :D
Sooooo glad you’re back. Been missing your wonderful videos. Thank you !! 😎😂🤩👍🏻🚞
Thank you kindly!
What a beautiful trip! Thanks for sharing.
If it would be possible to capture more of the windshield, it would make the wiper action less jarring.
❤👍
There can't be too many people who have watched this epic video from start to finish - but I am one more to add to the tally, OK, it's taken me three days (on & off) with grandkids to look after and Christmas preparations to attend to etc, but I thoroughly enjoyed this amazing journey. The mind boggles as to how much it must have cost to engineer this line - the amount of tunnelling is incredible. What a great watch. btw, who is Naiomi?
You for sure plowed snow. Wipers had hard time cleaning it off windshield. Stay safe and thanks for posting this. Chuck. Waco, Texas U.S.A.
Thanks, you too!
Waco, TX...l Oooh isn't that where the incident in the 90's happened?
I sincerely admire you! Of course, the weather is very beautiful, but it is incredibly difficult to see a path that is not visible. It's fantastic!😃😃
The tracks are there ;) lol all the time :p
Incredible footage! These kinds of trips really get the adrenaline pumping! Love watching your stuff.
Thanks a ton!
What a sensational return video. From the clockwork Sony FX3's stunning recording, having 5+ hours to watch, to having to clean off the snow because of the plow work - thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Glad you like them! :D
😮😊No snow yet here in Indiana, USA, and I'm not sure I'm ready for it. But it sure is cozy to watch this on my little phone screen, while I'm bundled up against the coldin the house!😄 Tack så mycket, RCG!
Glad you liked it :D Tack tack :D
Also, here in Indiana. Temps are starting to fall and we’ll have snow flurries on Sunday but I don’t think we’ll ever see snow quite like that but it sure is beautiful to see here on the video.
RailCowGirl this rocks! I love this time of year especially on these snowy runs with you! ❄ ⛄

my dog loves your videos more then any other videos anywhere (especially the snow sheds) but shes been extremely excited with this one. we both enjoyed this one very much
That's so awesome! :D
In these conditions its easy to understand what relief the finse tunnel is during wintertime :)
i mean we know you would absolutely plowww thru the old track as well but OMG all that snow on the track
unstoppable force vs hardly movable snow
go Cowgirl !
Indeed it is :D
Wow - it’s just one tunnel after another !! 😮
That's how it is the mountainous parts of Norway :D
i think the mountains are nearly everywhere in Norway, aren't they? but this track must be one of the toughest ones...It was a pleasure to fully watch your Video! thumbs up! @@RailCowGirl

The amount of the train tunnels in Norway is pretty insane. Love the content and greetings from the States.
Best video ever . for nothing you get a 5 hour amazing journey through stunning Norway sit back enjoy
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks a lot!
Oh such a superb video. I have been able to watch almost all of it in 4k. Between YT and my ISP usually half that quality is all I can see with out buffering. I just savored the whole 5 hours. You certainly can tell that you put a lot of yourself into every video. THANK YOU!!!
Glad you enjoyed it! ❤❤❤❤❤
New Hampshire, USA checking in. We have the snow, we have the mountains, but nothing like this. Thank you for posting these videos.
Thank you so much for watching :D
Tack! Fatastiskt fin åktur!
Jus wanted to say I am still a fan of yours. It has been a while since I have written something. I never am bored watching your videos. What really prompted this mail is the sharpness of this video. I have been subscribed since your passenger driving days. Then to now your videos have only gotten better. Thank you for these wonderful adventures!
Thank you for your support! :D Thank you for watching :D thank you for being YOU
Believe me when I say you are the pro here.
What beautiful scenery. Thank you for posting.
Thank you for watching!
@@RailCowGirl It definitely works 👍🏼. I have a full frame Canon 5D DSLR and it makes a big difference 😁
Thank you from Philly (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 🇺🇸). Now I want to visit Norway 🇳🇴 more than ever.
Excellent thank you! Watched it all and loved it. I'm going to watch the entire video again. 😊
Awesome! Thank you!
Please Take Note British Rail How Nice this Tunnel is .Fair play to the electricians whom wire in that Illuminated Handrail on the left. You have a cool job Cow Girl. xXx
Love my job :D
Fantastic video, a great documentary on the harsh conditions train drivers sometimes have to face. Respect! With such an amount of snow, have you ever found problems reading the signals balizes? Thanks.
Thank you :D
Never had problems reading signal balises on such conditions. :)
Epic , thanks RCG for your work and share it ❤
Glad you enjoyed it
So grateful for your taking the time to give us this long-awaited new vid. A great tonic for the soul in addition to the spectacular views, you are an international treasure.

Heat/defroster, x-ray vision to see the line, coffee, what a ride . Thanks for making my day.
Glad you enjoyed it
My Tunnel ( The Finse Tunnel ) Was Totally Lit Up Loved It.
The Snow Beast Was Attacking For Sure Yikes. But You Showed Him!
After Ål The Ride Got Smooth Loved It.
Thanks for posting these videos. They really helped when Covid19 hit and we were all stuck indoors. I have ridden the train from Oslo to Bergen once. Took a lot of pictures at the stops and the conductor had to remind me to get back on.😅 I do wish I had known about the train at the top to the Fjord and ferry to Bergen instead.
The Flåm line is part of Norway in a nutshell, and it is sad that you did not make that trip. it is a magnificent tour, did it myself this summer and wow... the fjord is really beautiful from the electric boat.
When the windscreen is caked, can occasionally see your profile/shadow over to the left . Good job!
Hehe, yep, it is because of the way the front is formed on the loco
YEA!! RailCowGirl is back.
Frim the very deep south, Slidell, LA. So good to have you with us again. 😊
I post videos as often as I can. My schedule does not leave much for what is called life outside work.
I do admire the work you do and i honestly dont know how you manage your you tube channel. Thank you so very much for the pleasure you give us. Be safe.
You know I always told my self I could drive a train . Till I seen this driving in the snowy conditions not being able to see the rails wow no couldn't do this these guys are brave and professional and keep things moving regardless wow great job

You're very welcome!
I absolutely love your night time rides. To me its like all those drives as a kid going to see Christmas light decorations during the holidays.
Thanks, RailCowGirl.....lovely to see that you're still recording and posting to YT.
Yep, the people living most of the year at Finse are hard people, and they really know the mountains well :D
I wonder what these people do for a living that live along this trek well outside of the towns & villages. Yeah I skip the long tunnel runs as well. Amazing infrastructure.
I was watching the snow coming down and was thinking "What an evening to be inside looking out with a cup of something hot, like brandy, in my hand." @@leecowell8165
@@RailCowGirlFinse is where Star Wars was filmed (the original one), the part where they are on the icy planet (just a sidenote)
@@Klaus-y3v very aware of that. I love star wars myself, and every year on May 4th train 602 from Bergen has storm troopers patrolling in the train, they play the cantina music in the restaurant car and Darth Vader is riding shotgun on the loco to the convention at Finse. it has been mentioned in several videos on my channel :)
