I remember my first PC’s BIOS being super generic, only allowed keyboard input and had the graphics of an Atari 2600 with a fetish for the color blue, but then got my first MSI motherboard and holy shit the difference is astonishing! It feels like it’s own little computer compared to the BIOS screens I was used to at the time. Never knew a BIOS could be so nice.

In my opinion MSI have the best BIOS to navigate and use, cant fault it really. I can see the B550 Tomahawk is going to be a best seller so Im positive that there will be loads of people who will get the use of this video, thanks for taking the time to go through such a details walkthrough Mike.

@@PapaMav I have an ASUS X570 Tuff and I found the bios as easy to use as MSI's. I'm just now beginning to find my way around the gigabyte bios.

@@mikesunboxing Tbh I looked at my d'ters PC which has MSI A320 mb today as fans noisy and found i had set ram at default and fans were in dc mode rather than pwm! Thought i had sorted these months ago so great help resetting her PC! Thanks again Mike

Thank you for this useful video … can you explain what the “U” signifies in the upper right corner of the boot priority icons, and why several of the icons have “USB” across the front? Aren’t all thumb drives considered USB? Thanks!
U is for UEFI and the USB port is drives or devices that might not be actually USB flash storage but use the USB protocols to communicate
Hi Mike. My media PC is together and running fine. After having MSI motherboards for so long, Gigabyte's bios looks totally weird.
it is quite jarring going from MSi to gigabyte mobo layouts

I bought this card for a Corsair Crystal 680X case and it turned out to be a really good build. Doing another build with a Corsair Crystal 280X case so which M-ATX board would you recommend that's compatible with the Tomahawk B550?? I do like the MSI boards.
i would look at the B550M Mortar, these mortar boards are generally compared to be the mini tomahawk

What’s your cpu heating/fan setup + overall case and fan configuration? We have the same CPU but I’m noticing I run about 3-4 degrees higher than you are
honestly not sure what i was running back then, usually a 360 aio though and room temp 22-24ish

HELLO MIKE! You are my go to guy for MSI! I recently built my last system with an MSI Z390-A Pro with an Intel Pentium Gold Coffee Lake G5400 Duel Core 3.7Ghz Processor! 64 GB DDR4 3200 Ram and a GeForce GTX 1650 Video Card! I use this system for Adobe Video Editing! Besides ticking the XMP & GAME BOOST button with FAN set to Auto, what else can I do to Overclock this system? I was told by MSI that This is basically a budget gaming board that cannot be manually overclocked? Any advise Would be greatly appreciated!

Just as a suggestion for these motherboard tours. I am looking for Bios information for integrated graphics on B550 platform. Since you are using non G Ryzen CPUs I assume some of the options I'm looking for in the Bios don't even appear without the iGPU installed. Perhaps in the future you can use one of those for my case? (Only a suggestion)

I’m on the newest bios as of March 2024 with my MSI MAG B550 Tomahawk Max WiFi and it won’t let me save my PBO2 limits it will only save it up to PPT 145 TDC 95 EDC 115 with a Ryzen 9 5900x no higher? My old Asus Rog Strix B350-F gaming with the newest bios late 2023 lets me save my PBO2 limits PPT 195 TDC 130 EDC 140 with the same CPU a Ryzen 9 5900x and the motherboard is 7 years old.?.
safety precaution maybe to not expose the CPU to excessive power
@@mikesunboxing with that same cpu a Ryzen 9 5900x and a PPT of 195 TDC 130 EDC 140 on that 7 year old motherboard in Cinebench r23 I scored in a 10-minute throttle test 23,246mc and my temps topped out at 68.6c on a Asus Rog Strix B350-F Gaming latest bios and 7 years old.
@@mikesunboxingI don’t get why it doesn’t save my PBO2 Limits in advance mode it hinders my Ryzen 9 5900x power.?.I downloaded Ryzen Master to see what my motherboard can go up to it said PPT 500 TDC 200 EDC 220 but it can’t save PPT 195 TDC 130 EDC 140? Just used Ryzen Master just to see how much the mobo can go up to then uninstalled it. With an Arctic Liquid Freezer II 360mm Rev 4 with the AM4 offset brackets and new cold plate fins and gasket it blows my mind.?.

Msi finally release the non beta bios for the x570 tomahawk. Flashed and running on mine, now, I will just have to fine tune the memory again...

Is there a way to have the bios screen list the drive specs (manufacurer, capacity, etc.)? , did a setup last night and out of 4 drives, only one was listed all others simply said "uefi drive", big help.... We were cloning a regular ssd to an NVME. Thanks for the vid.

try flashing it again or reset the cmos
Does MSI have a wireless internet component? I'm trying to setup wifi on my pc but I don't think it even has a component for that.
the wifi on the motherboard, if it has it is usually intel or realtek chipsets and should have drivers on the msi website for the motherboard.
some regions do a wifi version some don't. If it has wifi it will always be in the model name
I have an unrelated question, i noticed you had two sticks of 8GB of ram but when i try it with my own motherboard it just gives me the cpu red light, do i need to upgrade the cpu or anything?
Motherboard: MAG X570S tomahawk max wifi
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X 6 core processor
And it only takes up to 8 GB of ram only and the ram sticks are from corsair
try each stick on its own in slot 2 then slot 4 if one of them gives and error it is faulty
Mike, I am having trouble. I have built my pc yesterday and I got the msi b550 tomahawk as my mother board. The trouble is when I turn on my computer it shows the bios but every time I try to exit out of the bios it just opens back up
if you are putting in an older disk drive it might not support secure boot or uefi, try setting the bios to CSM
hey where do i plug my 4pin case fans on motherboard or it doesnt matter? i have 5 to add in daisy chain. or should i plug 3 in front on 1 connector and 2 on top another connector and can change my variables etc? thanks
yeah spread them out a little if you can any of the fan headers is okay

Sure happy to help. Is it a new drive or an older one? If it is an older one you might need to enable csm mode

yes the top slot is SATA / NVME the bottom one NVME only
Why is the sys 1-2-4-5-6 fan rpm zero because I am using the same motherboard and it appears to be 0 too? I cannot see how many rpm the fans are spinning at.
maybe the fans are not set to the right type of header DC or PWM or the fans don't have an RPM output?
@@mikesunboxing I can only see sys fan 2, I can't see the rpm speed, I can't see what rpm the other 5 sys fans are spinning at, when I put sys fan 2 into PWM, it speeds up, I can't control only the other 5 fans.

I didn’t know the shift key method to enter into the bios. I always used the del key or f2 when the pc is booting up. Nice to know.
However, I have the msi x570 tomahawk and this board doesn’t have a video card. I tried connecting the hdmi cable directly to the motherboard and also to the gpu and in both cases I don’t see anything on the screen. Any ideas ?
what processor do you have installed?
Using M.2_1 disables all SATA ports? So storage expansion via SATA is impossible?

I can't figure out how to enable the 2nd nvme. You have to enable it in bios and I can't find anywhere to do that.

I am lost, I am trying to use a second monitor via the hdmi slot on the motherboard and its not recognizing it, im running a 3080ti gpu and a ryzen 7 5800X CPU, idk why its not recognizing the second monitor
The motherboard doesn’t have a graphic card if you want to use the motherboard ports you need a processor with graphics like the 5700g
@@mikesunboxing yeah I was reading up on that, I just have to get a display port to HDMI adapter and just plug into the graphics card itself. Doesn't make sense to me why it is just the 5700g specific, even though the 5800x is better?? If I had known that before hand I would've gotten that instead 🙃 but oh well everything is adaptable in the IT field
Does anyone know if this motherboard will run a 5600 on the stock bios? Ive upgraded the bios on my Tuf x570 but that was online on a working system. Not confident using flashback.

no it will have whatever bios was available at the time of manufacture, and being that the manufacture date is almost impossible to validate, you never know what bios it has until you power it up.

I think i have done a silly mistake, i have change the Infinity Fabric Frequency to 3200 thinking it’s the speed of the RAM and my PC is not booting again, CPU light on😥
reset the CMOS and remove the battery for awhile to reset to factory defaults

U dont no what u talking about. Auto is always bad decisions for basic settings. Like PCIE/chipset auto means. Windows can switch that a save power. In GPU-Z u can see if u do basic staff is on Gen 3 but 1.1 in some games is 2.0, but for good latency u need 3.0 every time. HD audio controller is bad panel audio..so off and use motherboard audio. XHCI hand-off can mess with mouse, better is for. Legacy for Windows 10 off. enchance mouse..0. ErP ready u can setup it only if power supply support it.
In infinity fabric freg. that say FCLK = MCLK. FCLK must be MCLK for best preformace. Sufficiently high MCLK can negate or overcome this penalty and u saying "i have better ram i need go FCLK high haha I am so smart".
Sorry but that do what u want is so annoying. TEST that setting and then say why u have that on or off. I dont care about IF If IF IF IF IF IF or I dont care enable it or disable.
most of the settings will have a very minimal effect but if you want to spend time checking what settings work best for your system that is great, but a lot of people just want to build a pc turn on xmp and pbo and setup the fans and thats it.
I do have a deep respect for anyone prepared to spend the necessary time to learn the optimal settings
