    For 2.9lbs that is pretty impressive! The next question is the price. (400ea ) there are some great level 4 plates out there that will stop 855 and 30/06 AP and weigh in at 6 lbs and even 5 lbs and cost $150 ea & 250 ea ( 200 on sale ) each are over .6” but under 1”. If this plate could stop m855, m193 ( out a 20”barrel) and 30-06/308 AP rounds at 2.9 to 3lbs at 400$ ea or less then that would be a heck of a plate and deal and I would get a set. That price actually isn't too bad IMO, I was expecting a bit more I guess. Maybe I'll consider upgrading from my current plates. Current ones are III+ from Tactical Scorpion Gear (recommended on this channel before haha) and they're nice but man I like the light weight.
    For people not familiar with armor they might not think it's that heavy but my first set was AR500 plates; I don't think they were 8 lbs but at least 6.5 lbs I think. Holy wow were those heavy, and I didn't even have much experience wearing them. Sold those and got the TSG ones and they're far better. Weight is huge with plates.

    I really wonder about longevity of non-steel armor. Like what is the shelf life on one of these?

    • @KimballPrecision
      @KimballPrecision Год назад +1

      That’s been discussed an infinite amount of times. UHMWPE plates have probably the shortest life, due to being damaged by UV and heat. Ceramic and Kevlar/aramid will last a long time, way longer than the 5 year shelf life. There’s tests of Cold War and Vietnam plates being tested that are damaged(strike faces cracked/layers delaminating) and they still preform above their rating. And those were with older materials. Newer manufacturing and new materials are superior to the older ones in every way. But good plates and don’t abuse them and you’ll be good for years. The main plates I have are RBR tactical lvl4 icw plates that were made in 2004. I have no doubts in their quality. Look up the torque and tap test for rifle armor. It’s used in the military to tell if Esapi plates are in good shape.

Maybe try different angles with different plates and calibers? I think someone is more likely to be hit at a slight or even pretty decent angle than dead on, which would make all of the bullet go in one direction without exploding and dissipating all of its energy, if you know what I mean.

      PAUL..that made me chuckle. I’m a ballistics nerd🤓. I couldn’t find the M.E. on the 416 Barrett, but I found the bullet weight of 452 gr and velocity of 3,005…so that worked out to a mere 9,065 Ft. Lbs. ME 🙄😂. I’d love to see if steel plates could move an entire body backwards Hollywood style. Ouch, that’s a lot of energy!
      For wannabe nerds, to figure out the Muzzle Energy in Foot Pounds, use:
      (velocity x velocity) x bullet weight in grains / by the constant 450,240 = Ft. Lbs. ME…so
      (3,005 x 3,005) x 452 / 450,240 = 9,065
      Easy peazy
      For comparison, standard Speer 9mm Gold Dot ranges from 317-374 Ft Lbs ME (their +P is 410).

    I see a lot of confusion about why you would buy this plate. All UHMWPE plates from every company on the market can be defeated by M855, you sacrifice protection for weight. This is why Ceramic plates dominate the military and law enforcement market.

    To my knowledge this company is known for selling fake/low quality plates. I’ve never used or purchase from tac but that’s the way they supposedly got their foot into the door by selling marked up Chinese mass produce plates. Hearing this from multiple guys makes me very hesitant to buy their product. RMA sales a similar cheaper product
    that’s actually a little lighter minus the multi curve. RMA haves a great reputation so if you have a lower budget they might be the better choice. I’d stay away from their products unless buffman tested it
