I bought the 5D straight after school with the first money I earned myself and until a few years ago it was my only DSLR. Now I have passed it on to my son. Still a great camera with the same sensor as the Epson R-D1. Thank you for your review!

I do like the 5D output, for some reason it's different to the 10mp CCD. These are old "clunky" cameras in some ways, but still fun to use, still capable of capturing useful images. The Epson I know a few who love that camera, never tried one but it looks nice! Thanks for stopping by

Thank you for making such a detailed review of these 3 cameras. I loved the low light capability of the 5D. I had problems with the 5D. The shutter and anti shake mechanism failed in both of my early models of the 5D cameras within a year or two of purchase back in the 2000's . I moved to the A200 when it came out and it has worked flowless for +15 years. I too enjoyed the feel and interface of the 5D and wished my old models still worked. Wondering if anyone else had the same durability issues I did with the 5D. If I recall, I had 1 unit repaired under warranty but it failed again soon after. The A200 was not handled nearly as carefully as the 5D and is still working fine.

Seems to be a luck thing from what I can see. I have 2 5D's and both are working, one has the black frame (but it mostly works fine just the odd time that turns up), the other one is the original I bought new in 2006, and it went back for a service to fix that, and I've not had a problem since. I do use the cameras (more so the black frame one). On the other hand I have an A100 with a steadshot problem, it works but the image is off centre. A200 I had a few of those and didn't have an issue.
I had an A99 fail once, lock up after a single shot, pull battery, takes shot locks up again. I ended up selling it for parts and that camera had very modest shutter count of under 40K. Just the way it goes I think.

Glad to see my preference carrying over to someone else. Ive gone thru the 7d, a100 and a390 and i ended up selling the a390 and i never use the a100 because the 7d is just a better all round camera.

To be honest from my experience Sony never matched Minolta in terms of design/ergonomics and the "look" of the image. I tried many of their cameras too including the SLT ones.
They had quite a few misfires in designs, and the A700/900 whilst they had some elements of Minolta, it wasn't the same. The E Mount cameras have nothing at all in common with Minolta, I was very disappointed to see Sony go down that design road, didn't appeal to me at all. Tried a few, technically good cameras, but dull to use and not comfortable.
Here even the KM5D is a better overall offering despite some drawbacks, the 7D I might do a video on because it's ergonomics are quite popular.

@@MrBazReviews Your right, ive heard everyone say the a700/ a900 are close to the 7d.....while i cant say anything about the a700, i did get the a850 and its probably the closest to Minolta that sony ever got. And its still not even close imo. The ergonomics of the a850 are pretty good and the sensor is actually quite nice for its age. But that 6mp sensor in the 7d just has some kind of rawness to it that i cant get out of any other camera including other CCD cameras.

@@JayTsTech A700 was OK the back panel layout is very close to the 7D, which is good. But the top plate was not great, they dropped the second dial and lost the drive dial beneath it and lost the exp comp dial and put "big buttons" there instead. Inferior design IMO and a let down.
But the images from it look nothing like the 6MP CCD sensor, none of the Sony cameras do, and none of the Nikon/Pentax ones look like it either.
So I kept the 5D, and whilst it's a cut down 7D in terms of body layout, it's still solid little camera and the images are the same from both.
Only 2 sensors I can say I am very fond of, the 6MP CCD, and the 36MP one in the D800 is also superb (both are really appealing in slightly different ways).

@@MrBazReviews that's good to know, I was recommending the Pentax/ Nikon versions of that sensor to people wanting to try it out because of my Minolta shots (they are afraid of getting bad cameras)...guess I won't be doing that anymore lol
I actually have a soft spot for the original a7, there's something about the grain structure and colors that I can't seem to get past.

Been wanting the Minolta 7D but the IBIS bricking issue scares me 😢

    • @MrBazReviews
      @MrBazReviews  2 месяца назад +1

Well the 2 5D's I have don't have IBIS problems, but you have to be a bit more careful (ie don't drop them!)
I might do a video on the 7D I can borrow one, lot more controls, larger body, bigger VF but same output as the 5D (metering is a bit different)
Evidently all 7D's had the first black frame issue, so check if it was fixed/repaired. I sent my 5D in and got it fixed under warranty (been working fine since). That's likely more a problem then the IBIS.
