I treat my q2 as a 35mm FOV camera with an "extra wide mode". That is I usually just shoot it in 35mm crop mode, and only sometimes switch to 28mm (uncropped) FOV. Too many people don't like Q cameras cuz "28mm is too wide" and they want 35mm, but it it's awesome as a 35mm camera too. Even at 35mm FOV, you got 30 megapixels, which is still plenty for some more cropping. Personally, 50mm FOV is too tight for my EDC so I don't use that crop mode barely ever, but in a pinch 15 megapixels is enough. My big wish for Q cameras is custom crop lines. I'd be over the moon if I could pull up 40mm or 45mm crop lines.
Although you are one of the most "gassy" people I know of in YT land, but I enjoy myself when I visit your channel. Hope to see some photo- review from the Q soon 😁
I loved my Q2M. Had to sell because it became a bit too niche but the pictures I got with it are really special. It's an incredible camera and can basically see in the dark
My guess yesterday was correct. I've had mine a few months now. Definitely happy I purchased it after wanting monochrome only fixed focal length for a while.
@@ericrjennings me too! Look forward to seeing q2m content. I picked up a yellow filter for mine. And you're right there's no justification for getting it, I justified mine as I finished my degree and it was a fitting reward to myself.
@@ericrjennings if you know someone with a 3d printer I have a file on thingiverse for a lens cap for the hood that can be printed out of TPU. If you're a lens cap user better than the metal one shoved in your pocket.
@@ericrjennings 46M resolution is an overkill with monochrome sensor, with M246 the files size are more manageable with superb resolution. And you got to love the insane battery life on the M240 series.
Eric, I've been very curious about this camera for a very very very long time. Given I shoot 28 and black and white a lot I am wondering if this might actually be the perfect camera I'd still keep my M systems as, well you know. Enjoy it and I'm curious how you get on with it. I always wonder should I just stick with my M4 and get me some Tri X as I love the actual grainy film look as well. Curious how you get on with this mate. Cheers from Ireland.
I KNEW IT!! Though I didn't expect monochrome - sneaky sneaky... To give you some hope, I bought the Q2 and stopped there, despite LOVING the images. The other Leica bodies are overpriced for what they are in my opinion. Whenever I need to grab a camera on the way out the door, 90% of the time, it's the Q2.
Eric Did you watch the latest Leica Camera USA video post "Leica Conversations: Getting Closer: Building Trust in Photography"? I think most of Dr. Greg Gulbransen work was shot the the Q2 monochrome.
6:26 Fun fact, the lens is not a true 28mm, it's more of a 25mm lens, just disable the lens correction and you've got yourself a few extra degrees of view.
Crazy? Nope. It's a natural evolution. I can relate as I currently pack up gear for an MPB trade for your favorite brand. Restrictions can be freeing - like inflatable bumpers on the alley. You think you know "exactly" what you have to work with but you can push the boundaries of your creativity within the medium - said after whistfully looking at my Olympus MFT (all sold) pics from a ranch visit.
@@ericrjennings Nope. Creative limitations, wide/fast, film-like experience. It all makes sense. I’d buy one too if my oldest wouldn’t rather study abroad 🙄. As long as you’ve got an ILC around for when 28mm just won’t do, there’s not much downside.
Leica equivalent: Fuji XT5 and 18 1.4. And when I get tired of this particular lens, I can always just unmount it and put on something else! 33 1.4, 56 1.2. and still have money to buy a 50 F2. Acros for B&W🖖
Cheers Eric, it’s Sean in Atlanta once again! Nice camera but not use the lens hood? That’s what gives it its distinctive look!!! I think you have a winner there and probably would have with the Pentax, as well! Enjoy your new toy! Sean P.S. I ended up selling my Q because of the fixed lens…

How long before this camera gets sold ? Haha either way, I love the GAS purchases.

Welcome to the Q2M family. It truly is a fantastic camera. The only thing, i would advise is that you need to have a black and white mindset.
That’s one of the reasons I got it. It’s about light and composition
Nice first images mate
Just test shots. I’ll be back with a video review once I shout a bit
The only reason for me I’d own this camera, is I heard the monochrome sensor cameras are really good in low light/ high iso.
Extremely good. And the detail is something else
