Do you have to reprogram the TEHCM if you unplug it after you remove it from the tranny for cleaning? Or can you unplug it, clean it and plug it back in to put it all back together, and take it for a test drive?
@MakeItGreatAgain55 good question. It would seem to me, and I could be wrong, NO. The only time that the TEHCM would need to be reset to learn again, would be if new clutch packs were installed, or if anything in the Hydraulic Circuit was disrupted such as the oil pump area, pumping vanes, etc... If you are cleaning the TEHCM and also replacing the Pressure Switches, I would be more concerned that YES, it would be smart to probably reprogram it. But just to remove and clean it like during partial fluid change(drain the pan and replace the measured lost oil with new fluid), I would feel fine with just a reassemble and test drive.
@HVACRServiceTech Thanks for the fast reply! I just did a filter change on a used GMC Denali XL with the 6L80. Check engine light said the 1 and 3 selonids are stuck open, causing shift problems. Simply changing the fluid with a new filter made a world of difference. It is very smooth shifting during the test drive, but now (3 days later), it read that all the selonoids are stuck open while driving the 10 miles into town. We pulled over and parked it for about two hours. When we went to pick it up, it started and drove perfectly and didn't need to trailer it home. Drove it today and it still seems fine but had a little hesitation going from 2 to 3rd. As a precaution, I'm going to change out the fluid and filter once more and clean the valve body and TEHCM as you did in the video before deciding if I need to do a complete rebuild on the tranny. Again, thanks for you time and great video, it helped me out!
@MakeItGreatAgain55 no problem. Did you see my video on replacing the pressure switch films? I think that you should try to change them. I believe in the video that I uploaded, I included footage of me cleaning the actual switch contacts, under the Orange Films. If you haven't had any metal shavings appear on the magnet of the pan, I would wait a little bit before doing the overhaul and rebuild-unless you want to for the experience and it's worth it for you to. But if you're trying to avoid a rebuild, buy the kit off Amazon and change the 4 films, clean the contacts, when you do that cleaning. I'll find the right kit on Amazon and reply here with the link for you. And if the films are old anyways and still sealing, they're gonna fail soon anyways Better to change them now for many reason and the chance that it will fix your issue
What a very valuable information you shared with us, can you help me to locate the valve body correction kit ? i think i got one but was for the 6L80E , and mine is same as the one in the video the 6L80 the old version is for a C6 2008 corvette , and the sonnax kit i got the valves and everything are bigger than mine so couldnt fit on my valve body
I'm sorry that I didn't see your message on the day that you sent it. I hope that you have been able to find what you're looking for. If you have not yet, maybe I can help. I don't know of anything advertised as being a "Correction Kit". I have only heard of and even considered getting the sonnax kit, but i didn't end up going with the Kit because if the following: When reassembling and cleaning the valve body i did not have any valves that showed any visible wear whatsoever. All the valves fit inside their bore as tight as they possibly could and there was(in my opionion)no need to spend the money on a Sonax Zip Kit. I was not doing anything to increase performance or torque, so I was happy to just reuse the existing valves. Transmission Supply shops can be hard to find in my experience. There's 2 where in the city that I live in, and they are both not well known to the general public. If you still need to find something or if I can help in any way, feel free to reply and let me know more about your situation and I can help ya.
Great video! I'm working on a 6L45 with 100k miles. After replacing the end plugs, the 1-2-3-4 and 2-6 end plugs fit so tight it doesn't touch the retaining clip, no tension on the retaining clips. Is the springs worn out? can i get similar springs from my local hardware stores?
No, can get from a hardware store. The plugs should fit tightly enough to Where You cannot wiggle them at all, but with lubrication in place like some fluid the bore plug should be able to move in the bore. You say you replaced the plugs, do you mean you bought new ones? Or are just reinstalling the plugs that you took out? I'm not sure about the 6L45, but I think it should probably be the same, they should have tension. can you move the valve in the bore like I show at 19:05 in the video? It should be able to fly back-and-forth. And I don't believe that the Springs wear out over time, unless something stretched them out farther than what they're made to stretch out to or squeeze down to. It's probably that the valve is stuck in the bore. But you can't just use any regular Spring.You'll need to order the right springs for your transmission.
So both of those valves that you mentioned rest in direct contact with the bore plug and under spring pressure from the opposite side of the valve.Once both halves of the valve body are put back together, i don't think the clip can fall out, but Im not positive about that. I would look more for debris, possibly in the bore or on the valves, causing the valve to be stuck and prevent the valve from being able to move freely within the bore. If it is free to move and the spring seems too small, hopefully it didn't get mixed up with any of the other ones, because that would be a mess to try to figure out, I'd imagine. Keep me updated, and let me know your progress.Good luck
@MatthewDannevik I did replace all the clutch packs. I soaked them in new fluid overnight and even tested the pistons with compressed air through the ports that connect to the valve body. I have a lot of other footage from the rest of the build that I need to find the time to upload.
Thanks. I spent days, probably weeks worth of time researching and learning to be able to know everything about how that transmission operates comes apart and goes together. I never want to go into anything not knowing what I'm doing
@jamesethan3749 no, it doesn't seem to me, that it's like acetone at all. Acetone, I think, vaporizes pretty fast. Mineral Spirits, takes alot longer. Acetone might work, it might not, or it might cause problems. I really don't know. It's worth looking up online before attempting it though.
@@HVACRServiceTech - Can you use the mineral spirits (or anything else) to wash the TECHM? Mine is full of metal but its a computer so idk if there are rules about washing it? Plz give any tips 🙏🙏🙏
