I might be wrong , but those boots look like Wolverine 1000 mile cap toe boots. They are around $400 dollars , also they are black boots not brown. This man is a great boot black. Those in the know will know what I'm saying.
You need to brush them for debris and impurities not seen with the naked eye it will help with soap and water to get into the outer layer of shoe for a better clean and shine allowing conditioners to absorb and treat the shoe 😎

I didn't know you can use a chisel to peel off old wax buildup and some burrs, heck, I didn't know you can dye them again like that paintbrush. Thanks for the video.
Not to be that guy but in order you make a shoe shine correctly it all starts with the brush strokes. You want a little air in between each stroke because it creates friction which makes it shine. At the end when you are just rubbing the whole shoe you are just smearing your work and smearing with your brush strokes. I would only use a power wheel to finish it off and that’s because of the speed on machine to create that finishing shine. Hope this helps
The Army NEVER let us use a railroad stake back during my early years as a private. It was just KiWi, water, boot shining brush, and a good pair of jungle boots.
What's the reason for scraping the leather? Does that not damage/scratch it? - Or is it deliberate in order to help that leather pteserver(?) seep in easier by exposing the grain?

I go back to 1964 to the B&P Palace where the shoe shine man Jackson had a stand He worked 6 days a week. The B&P was a conbination of a tavern and pool hall . Jackson was the best ahoe man in the county.

It does not, the leather is not that sensitive as he's scraping away the dirt which accumulated in the creases.

It's just for the sound/ASMR aspect.
Exfoliate…leather is just really thick skin , in a sense.
Boot leather…
Kinda like when a bowling alley refinishes the lanes. They sand it to get to the “fresh” layer…then they apply the new finish, so yes.
