Ep. 2 The second one is so strange ✿ Playing a game of SMASH or PASS with my Pottery

  • Let me explain a bit more about this video:
Welcome to the game of Smash or Pass the Mystery Mould edition!
Smash or Pass is a game where you make a yes or no decision on an object, person, or thing by using the word 'smash' or 'pass'. The game is typically played with 'smash' meaning yeah that's good and 'pass' meaning I will pass on that. However, as we smash the things we don't like in pottery and pass the things on that we do, I will be playing it the other way.
SMASH= The piece is not good and will not be going to the next stages.
PASS= it's good and I will take it to the next steps.
If you have been a long time follower you will know that I have my Mystery Mould series where I unveil these moulds one at a time and decorate them. The pieces that pass this game will feature in the series when I start it up again. The smashes will not but this video series gives me an opportunity to clear out some moulds that won't fit in my new studio or maybe aren't the best for the series. Some are seriously cursed!
But wait, won't it spoil the mystery?
Yes and No! The mystery mould series will return but will have a mix of pieces from this series as well as some picked randomly like normal. By the time I get to them, I think you will either have forgotten about the piece or be super eager to see how it comes to life in the series. I am actually excited to hear your ideas on the ones we do pass on to the series as I may be able to implement them into the video and the design of the artwork. I am excited for the debates and discussions about whether I made the right decision for each mould. I am also excited to cull some moulds so I have less to move when I get the shelves for my new space.
Wait, are you smashing the moulds??
Ok, not smashing the moulds! I am smashing the cast it makes inside. I will clean the moulds up and find new homes for them that will appreciate them. AS much as I can see potential in all the moulds, I do want to focus on the ones that spark the most inspiration, have the grooviest of ideas and can be shaped and crafted in new ways. The smashed moulds are great but great for someone else who they are a better fit for. I will share details where you can get these moulds very soon.
    Are you ready to play?
I will be sharing a poll after each episode over on Instagram. If you think I made the wrong decision on the pieces, come over and vote. I may bring something back if you vote for it back!

I kinda love the feet mug!! Or planter, as I see other people say it is, which would look fantastic. The third mold was gorgeous but I understand it being just too impractical, makes sense it’s a smash, at least until something comes up that it could be attached to.

The second one… I agree, so creepy!!! 😑 The third one I agree, too fiddly.
For the last one, Holy crap you hit a jackpot!!! That gnome was based off a book titled “The Secret Book of The Gnomes” written by Dutch author Wil Huygen and illustrator Rien Poortvliet! Two cartoon series were also made using these designs! Finding an actual mould that survived to today is amazing!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Piece 1: Def Pass. Piece 2: Planter for the cup or the feet at least Piece 3: Horse - Def Pass. Piece 4: the gnome. Idea: Planter pot with the feet from piece 2 with the gnome sitting on the feet. The face on the cup is so unique and quirky though that the other side of piece 2 could just be a standard planter with your awesome flower designs over it. Put a plant that looks like 'groovy' hair and it would be a winner! Either way, this is really fun and thank you!

And if you could make a clay tiny daisy that can be stuck on the end of the gnome's nose or for weird funky lil daisies stuck between the toes. Hee! Cute series! Looks a little like St Patrick's cathedral in New York. I don't think there was much you found do without just scraping the image and adding your own work to it, or making it a tray or something. I think all the passes were a good count and I'm loving this series!

I think the gnome is David the Gnome (David, el Gnomo or David de Kabouter). A staple of my childhood!

The gnome is the best for sure but I kinda liked the funny mug with the feet lol I thought it might be a garden plant pot

That mug with the face would make a cute planter though! Reminds me of the pots my mom use to paint.

I'd totally put the gnome on a bookshelf. I think it would be such a cute surprise!

I feel like the gnome sat on a teapot handle or something similar would be adorable

It would be cute to paint the shape that the gnome holds like a present, like Christmas or valentines or just brown paper wrapped.

Absolutely love this series!! I think you were right about all the moulds, although the frame was beautiful I feel like it doesn't really match your style, but the gnome is sooo cute can't wait to see it again in a mystery mould video 🥰

I think you're right and there's not much you can do with it as-is, but I think there could be some cool things as separate pieces, the picture applied to the side of a big jar or vase maybe, then the frame to accessorize, carve, stamp or whatever, to use for other work.

I think the first one is an LDS temple. :) Not sure which one. Love your channel! Keep it up!

You made the right choices. That tooth foot thing gave me the heeby jeebies. When it squirted liquid slip as you squished it, it was like it was having one final icky hurrah. The little gnome is so cute I would purchase one.

I love this series! It’s a good supplement to the full length ones you do. Keep it up! I loved the horse shape but agreed it’s far too delicate. The gnome is for sure the best.
