- This is a recap of week 11 of my DIY Camper Van Conversion on a Ford Transit 350L as we work towards full time van life in Australia…. or maybe grey nomads is more appropriate for our age group.
Short work week this week as we are moving out of our house. The Aluminium Composite Panelling was completed for the bathroom and kitchen splashback, then just a series of small items to make the van useable as we need to sleep in it for a few nights during the move.
Most my time this week was spent packing up the mess that was once my garage in preparation for the removalists.
That's looking awesome. Great build! Always good to have some practice from the first one. 😉👍
Thanks Felipe. Hopefully I get some time to actually finish it off at some point!
Apologies if this has been addressed elsewhere but you seem to have gone with what seems to be a 240V inverter frige/freezer option. From my understanding they are significatly cheaper in upfront cost and you get far more space for the dollar, but are far more energy demanding in general and demand more from the power generation/storage system. Now that you've been running that configuration for a while can you comment on the (comparatively) large volume and if you would do the same again in terms of 240V through inverter and having the higher demand on the power system? I appreciate someone doing something different from teh "standard" 12V low volume fridge/freezer and am interested in your thoughts on its utility.
Actually, they're far from heavy on the power demands. Residential fridges need to meet energy rating requirements so are designed to be more efficient. You do use a small amount of power running the inverter continuously, but even at 1A per hour in standby, that's only 12Ah overnight that needs to be supplied...just use an appropriate battery.
This is the second time I've had a 240V fridge in a van, so yes, no regrets. From what I see online with people using things like Glacio front opening fridges, they consume heaps more power mainly because they have to cycle more frequently to keep it cool.
I have a 300Ah lithium battery and with cooking, microwave, sandwich press....I've gone 5 days in rainy conditions with minimal driving before the battery got low. When the sun's out, I get 25A charging plus another 25 off the alternator, and it's heaps.
Based on my 2 vans, I wouldn't do it any other way. Caravan fridges cost more than my entire electrical system!😂
Are you married to a Filipina by any chance?
No. My ex wife is Chinese 😁
@@MakingStuffGoingPlaces oh ok sorry mate
Another great Vlog, remember measure twice , cut once,🦘🦘🦘❤️🇦🇺
Sometimes it doesn't matter how many times I measure it, I still mess it up 😂
