Good luck in Chicago. For those seasoned OTB: I love seeing round-by-round recaps... what you were thinking, what you may have missed. I'm still looking for a good clock. What's out there in the high, med, low price ranges? For beginners (no OTB exp): I recently took my daughter to her first tournament. Everything was confusing for her, from registration, to how pairings work (reading the pairings sheet), how a swiss system works, etc. What happens when your opponent does something wrong (she didn't even know you flag down the TD). I think an intro of "What to expect at your first tournament" would be great.
@@ChessGoals I would try to reach out to the TD in advance and ask if they are willing to sit down for a few minutes to record a short video about what their role is, etc. That would be cool.
I just played otb after like 10 years. Got a winning position. Then got nervous and a little bit low on time. Didn't drink anything. I should have. Got exhausted, and ended up losing. But now I have a new tournament coming up. Definitely interested in recaps with maybe a minimum amount of variations in it. More interested in tournament experience/ psychology during the game.
Long videos are fine too. Just more interested in time management and tricks like that, that apply to all levels. That tip about hydrating was gold! Gonna try that :)
im having a otb tournament (unrated, in a pub) in about 2 hours
did my prep today at 1 a.m. but i think it'll worth it!
Good luck!

Thanks John. These are great suggestions. I'm planning to record some clips on my phone and then edit them together on the laptop.

I love that idea

Thanks for the tips I'll try to include those non chess tidbits. Should I record a bunch of shorter videos like shorts between games?

Ok great thanks! I'll add more of those tips.
I rarely play OTB I just made a video where I play against the public to decide my lunch xD
Where do you go to sign up for OTB tournaments? specifically FIDE rated ones
In the U.S. I usually look at the USCF page or hear about them from other players or local websites.
Great advice Master Matt! Does dialing back the caffeine consumption and exercising help you sleep better?
I think so!
