I wish when they remove these old sections of circuit or whole circuits, the authorities would do a better job of remembering those people who lost their lives there. Or just put a map of the old circuit at least.
Great job in showing the lost part of the old Zandvoort layout!. As commented before it´d be respectful to remember those drivers who lost their lives in Zandvoort, as Roger Williamson and Piers Courage. And why not also remember the name of David Purley who deperately attempted to save Williamson´s life in that terrible accident, he was really a hero. Let me pay tribute to these gentleman drivers, RIP.
Hello Herman. I want to say a big thank you for this great video! I was always interested in how the Tunnel Oost looks like today. For me the tunnel oost is legendary. Nice greets from Germany
That's right, F1 will return next year on the current circuit (since 1999) with a few adjustments. In the 1990's I drove a lot on the so called interim-circuit after they lost the old section in 1989. Those days the section with the Scheivlak was left abandoned. Fortunately, this great section came back in 1999.
@@Circuitsofthepast It makes me very happy. Let us feel privately for this idea of yours. I'd love to meet you again! I can't fly the drone, I can't use it.
I hope they put some kind of barrier (preferably a Steele reinforced concrete wall) along the outside of the corner that's getting the banking especially with how steep it's going to be because if they don't that turn will become a launching pad if there are any wrecks or some one punchers a tire going through there as the cars will shoot right up the banking and then get airborne if it is not there, here in the states they already do that with all of the oval tracks just for that reason.
@@Circuitsofthepast I assume they are also going to put catchfencing there as well just incase a car does get airborne on the track part it's self so that it will stop any cars from going over it as well, right?
@@Circuitsofthepast ...its good to know that they are going with the safer barrier that more and more ovals are going to, so there will be the steele reinforced concrete on the outside of it to stop the car from going over, but also the inner liner of the styrofoam and metal bracing to absorb the energy of the impact should something like that happen.
My heart sinks that a place of brave men, noise, spectacle and great machines has been usurped by a pastime described as a nice walk, spoiled. The contrast could hardly be greater. Are there not enough golf courses in the world that we trample the hallowed ground in this way? I can never understand why circuits don't keep the land in case a track can be restored to it's former glory. Has no one noticed how classic and historic racing visits old stomping grounds? If I had such a vehicle, I could not bring myself to race at this place.
Actually, it's not the fault of the golf course. If there was no golf course there would have been something different now, but not a race track. That was caused y the opposition from the local government, who then wanted to get rid of the circuit. How things can change... They sold a part of the circuit ground to built a holiday resort. That made a southern part of the track useless. Moreover, they moved the track more from the town, because of noise complaints. And now it's farther from the town, with noise barriers around the circuit, they still complain...
@@Circuitsofthepast Thanks for the reply. Why do 'neighbours' complain about noise from a motor racing track - which was there before they moved in? Such moaning should be ignored by the circuit, who should tell the residents to take it up with the housing developers and estate agents. The law needs to be improved to protect established industry from vexatious 'nimbys'.
Nice, but it goes to slow. Even at double the speed it's slow. Please fly faster and show more of this track. It's also nice to compare this footage with the new adjustments of the track next year. (before/after video) Thanks anyway.
This is only a drone flight over the current golf course. Later I will make an extensive video report in which I make a tour along the entire old circuit.
It's a pity the old part is lost. But it would be way to fast now. And the current track is also very cool, and includes about 50% of the original layout.
Circuits of the past Yeah the new track is pretty cool, the only thing I really miss about the old track is the amazing last corner and the long straight, now I think it’s a bit too short. Is there a way to recognise the old circuit also over the piece of land you didn’t cover with your drone? (Last corner, start of the straight)

When I filmed this I talked with the owner of the golf course. He told me he wanted to place a memorial on the crash site of Roger Williamson.

Brilliant! I've driven the old track in a simulator. It was epic. Especially in a Cobra
This is such a brilliant idea! Exploring track with drone give me a wider view of the unused part of the old track. Good job sir!
Thanks. There is much more to come. Recentely I explored the abandoned section of Reims-Gueux and the last remains of Nivelles-Baulers by drone.
@@Circuitsofthepast One question?, U are dutch?

Vielen Dank und herzlich willkommen. Grüße aus den Niederlanden.
If I remember correctly F1 returning to Zandfort in 2020, but the "new version". It is a shame they demolished the old layout!

Zandvoort is the name of the farm I grew up on in South Africa.
Dan kom u voorouers waarskynlik van Zandvoort.
Nice work!
Thank you!
I wondering if all these tracks were just made safest and not deleted.....
Great video, thanks for sharing
You're welcome!
Really good video Herman!
Thank you!
Ciao Herman, I'm happy that F1 is back in the Netherlands!
Grazie! I'm also happy that they don't destroy the character of Zandvoort for it :)
